Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
a digimon thread on a pokemon forum? sacrilegious
Has anyone picked up this game for PS4 or Vita yet? It was just released 2/2, and good lord is it addicting. I've never been into Digimon but my boyfriend bought this game on his PSN account so I downloaded it on my PS4, and I already have 30+ hours logged into this game. |
It's pretty great, so far. I like it a lot better than Digimon Story DS, and it's on par with Dawn/Dusk. One thing that was really surprising was the rate of leveling is exponentially faster, like, I was not expecting to get a team full of Ultimates by the time Chapter Five rolled around, lol.
Most of my team has already been assembled, which is cool. Just waiting for whenever the Royal Knights sidequests unlock. Bosses are an interesting case. I honestly wasn't expecting them to actually hurt. The Flamedramon in Gold Cup was a huge wake-up call; I was just expecting him to stack turns, not casually throw out a flaming fist that takes out half of my team, haha. Note, all of my impressions are on Hard, they're probably a cake-walk on Normal. |
I was gonna make a thread on this but I passed out before I could. Good stuff.
Cyber Sleuth is a blast. Definitely one of the best Digimon games to come out, and probably the best in my opinion. Just wish there were more Digimon. No ShineGreymon Burst Mode? C'mawwwwwwwwwwwwwwn. Might get to writing a guide out for it in the future for stuff, idk. That's how much I love this game. Quote:

Man, I wish I had a Vita or a PS4. :-( I really enjoyed Digimon World and Dusk & Dawn.

I've never had any interest in Digimon and I know next to nothing about the franchise, but I've kind of been tempted to try out this game. Everything I've seen makes it look kind of like a cross between Pokemon and a Final Fantasy-like JRPG, which definitely intrigues me.
Not sure i want to put $40-50 into it though - especially since it seems like the localization is pretty bad and I worry the game might get a bit repetitive. |

Nah, you're doing fine. There's 20 chapters so you don't have to worry about your current progression. Quote:
The repetitive side comes in a bit, but it's really only for getting your Mega Digimon and doing Royal Knights quests which are INSANE at times. Especially Imperialdramon. smdh fam Honestly I feel like if you don't like Digimon like that it'll be a lot more noticeable but it's still a good game. The game has Pokemon and SMT with a bit of FF in it, and it meshes REALLY well together. |
In the 4 days I've owned it I've played for 42 hours, while it started a bit slow it gets much better as the game goes on, I just download the free Extra Mission dlc that was released like less than an hour ago.
Also currently on chapter 9 Hard and about to get my first Mega. |

Loved the game.
http://abload.de/img/2016-02-11-000129mubme.jpg Funny how other monster raising games like SMT and Digimon have been hooking me the same way Pokemon used to do for me. I've spent a lot of time making my team and had a lot of fun doing so. Starting to realize the "monster raising" and team building aspect in Pokemon is actually really lacking and not fun. Digimon is grinding heaven and addictive. |

THIS SO MUCH Can't wait to start taking souls in ranked match. That Pokemon experience is gonna come in handy reaaaaaal quick. |
I might give this one a shot. I haven't been into Digimon in a while, though.
|
Loving it so far. Brings me back to the Battle Network days. It has a dash of Persona 4 tossed into it.
Am I bad for saying I am enjoying it over Pokemon? I love you Pokemon but you need to change the formula. I like the P4 vibe and the Digimon charm. |
I've been itching to play something on Vita, and this game caught my eye.
However, I haven't been into anything Digimon in a very long time. Even back in the day, I was only a casual fan. I've also been wanting something like Pokemon, but more "fresh" and maybe a little more mature? This game seems like it would fit the bill. Are there any other people who were casual Digimon fans now playing this game? What are your thoughts? |

It's not necessarily a better game than Pokemon, but it's fresh and addictive. Quote:
The GAF thread for this game reached a 100 pages and it's mostly casual fans of the old shows/games posting there. Game's a hit. |
Would you rather play oit on PS4 or PS Vita?

They don't really matter either way. PS4 is a much smoother experience, PSV is for those who are on the go. Aside from that there isn't much of a difference. If you want both, Cross-Save is available so there you go. |

Fortunately, Bamco are already aware of the issue. And they did say that the issue is already being worked on. |

Yeah good looking out. Completely forgot that this was a thing. |
I just bought it today! I havent gotten a Digimon game or played a Digimon game since Digimon World 3.
So im excited and i have heard good things about the game. So far im loving it! But with my daughter wanting to play with me, I leave the game on, and im still in the beginning. LOL |
Gaa this game has been pushing me to buy at least a preowned PSV just so I can play this game. I haven't played any digimon game since good old Digimon Rumble Arena 1 + 2, but ever since I've seen the character designs of a lot of the newer games (since Re:Digitize I guess) I've been itching to play the new games - especially Cyber Sleuth and upcoming Next Order.
Guess I won't be able to get this game for a while though :c no monies. |
I pre-ordered this game as soon as I found out about the localisation, any time I get I end up grinding away, I totally love it, the story isn't very good but the online battles and team comps make the game amazing for me. Love being able to do that.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned what absolute bollocks the online multiplayer for this is yet, it ruins the entire experience. When you're not getting a connection error - which is about 90% of the time after a five minute wait to find an opponent - you're getting hooked up to someone who immediately quits, or an AI with ridiculously overpowered low-stage Digimon. It's infuriating. And there's a 30 battle trophy associated with it. This really needs to be fixed. Now.
...yeah, I spent half the afternoon trying to get some online battles done. I got 10 done in about five hours. Somehow. Why is there always SOMETHING. Otherwise, yes, the game is very good. Maybe I'll post something a bit more positive when I'm not fuming at the abysmally poor quality multiplayer. |
I won a twitter contest for this game last week and got a copy for Vita. I'm... kinda glad I didn't purchase it at full price myself as it does have a few flaws BUT aside from my little nitpicks, I'm really enjoying it so far! I haven't paid attention to anything Digimon since the 02 dub ended here in NA but it feels really nostalgic to get back into this.
My biggest disappointment was with the Female MC's design. Apparently it's a chronic issue for the character designer but he has no freaking idea what boobs look like. I started with the girl and had to restart after about 2 minutes of gameplay because her boobs were practically at shoulder level and were so perky they were practically floating away. why. WHY. Her run cycle was also really awkward and jerky, and I also heard that the writing (or just localization?) doesn't do a good job of integrating her and assumes you're playing the boy anyway. Thankfully he looks androgynous enough that I can just pretend he's a female character for me but ugggh, I'm stupidly disappointed about this. I know it's not a huge deal and it's certainly not a game-breaker but if they're gonna give us a female character, it'd be nice if they put the bare minimum effort in... and for the love of god, 3D modellers, you didn't have to follow the character designer's concept art exactly lmfao. My only other complaint so far is that the localization is... ehhHHHH....... You can tell they didn't QA the DigiLine responses at all since I'd estimate more than half of the replies I've been allowed to send made no sense at all. I assume they had to translate them in a spreadsheet with no clue what the prior lines were, and probably with no pronouns or anything too, so I'm not complaining about the translations themselves, but surely an editor somewhere along the line should have picked up how awkward most of them are?? It's a bit disappointing because interacting with my Digimon is super cute but I feel really weird when I send a gibberish response back, lmao... The rest of it is pretty good, from what I can tell, though. I sound like I'm complaining a lot but the game really is fun! It's a bit of a grind but I don't even mind. I totally recommend it to anyone who likes Digimon or liked it in the past. :) |
