Any good tragic anime to watch?

I need to watch something really sad like Madoka. Any suggestions?
Presence of really cute non-human characters is desirable, but not mandatory. Kyubey is actually the reason I watched Madoka though.
Also I'm not a fan of romantic stories, so don't suggest sad anime about love please.

So, if I understood correctly, you're looking for a tragic story, rather than sad. You might enjoy Tokyo Magnitude or AnoHana.

I don't really understand the difference even between Russian equivalents of words "tragic" and "sad", but I guess you are right. Thanks for suggestions anyway, I'll check them out later.

I cried during Death Parade, I cried like a baby

Whether this could be considered tragic or not is really up to the viewer, but Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Ugh, Madoka. Well, if Urobutcher's trashy misery-for-misery's sake style of "storytelling" is your thing, Fate/Zero might be of interest to you, it kinda ramps it up to eleven, it makes Madoka look like YuruYuri by comparison.

Plastic Memories is somewhat tragic, and I suppose there's always Elfen Lied if you've not seen that. I'd support machomuu's citation of Utena - both the series and the movie - although they're rather ambiguous (read: often flat-out obscure and confusing) - and suggest considering Mawaru Penguindrum if your impression of Utena is that it's particularly tragic...but Ikuhara's works are very open to interpretation.

"Tragic" is kinda open to interpretation anyway, I could cite lots of anime that aren't particularly tragic but have seriously soul-wrenching moments. If you can shelve your distaste for romance, I would strongly nudge you in the direction of Your Lie in April, it doesn't get much more heartbreaking than that.

Oh, it's this kind of tragic...
I was actually worried you meant tragic as super bad =D

Clannad. Because Clannad.

Also, Madoka was not sad, it was about cute girls doing cute things xD

If you want something that destroys your soul, you can't go wrong with Now and Then, Here and There.

For fuck sake, it was inspired by the Rwanda genocide.
