Pokemon Sun and Moon Hopes and Speculations!

With the direct ending no more than about 8 minutes ago, we finally got the announcement of the new Pokemon Game. Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, hitting shelves on Holiday 2016. Many were expecting Pokemon Z or X2 and Y2 just alone sequels to Kalos, but it looks like we're getting brand new Pokemon Games this year!

What are your hopes for this new Pokemon Game! Any speculations on Pokemon or possibly what "Sun" and "Moon" represent?

Here is a Concept Art Scan!:

New Flying Type?

Hikamaru February 26th, 2016 7:18 AM

*sees screenshots*

Damn the models look even more advanced... but I do hope we get a good amount of new Fairy-type moves and Pokemon, because there wasn't really enough during 6th Gen so with a new generation should come improvement. Hopefully we get more new Mega Evolutions as well!

The small pictures on the right really catch my attention. Possibly ride able cars?

Princess Diana February 26th, 2016 7:34 AM

Hoping that we see the return of character customisation and more importantly, ball seals!

I'd also like to see the introduction of more Ice and Poison types that are both visually appealing and competent.

I agree, I really liked the character customization aspect of Pokemon X and Y. Hopefully that returns with additional customization choices really making it fresh. I'd really like to see some more Poison type Pokemon, I feel as if there seems to be a lack of them, poison is a really unique type, especially now that it can take on Fairies.

moon February 26th, 2016 9:04 AM

I kind of hope that they won't do like BW did and stick to new pokémon only. Hoping for a few new 'mons a la Kalos, but allow the old pokemon to be part of it too.

Also, kind of do hope that it'll be sort of like how BW2 was to BW ^^ maybe make the Kalos plot better by being a sequel.

Hikamaru February 26th, 2016 9:12 AM

I do hope trainer customization returns, because people enjoyed it a lot in XY and having it as a Kalos-only feature would make it wasted potential. I'm also hoping that if a mixed-generation regional Dex happens again, it needs to have a lot of Pokemon a la XY's Dex, therefore giving you flexible teambuilding options.

I think it'll be more like GS was RG, a sequel that begins in another region.

pkmin3033 February 26th, 2016 9:21 AM

I'd like to see more new Pokemon than Kalos introduced, but you know what they say about quality vs. quantity. I'd like to see some more aesthetically pleasing designs this time around...of course, that's down to pot luck and personal preference, but I can hope. More Pokemon means I have a greater chance of liking at least some of them, haha.

Additional content would be welcome. X/Y had a woefully lacking postgame, and I'd like to see some additional story content to explore after you've beaten the Elite Four this time around. Exploring another region would be great, but anything that adds life to the game after the story would be fine. ANYTHING. I'd like them to surprise me, like they did with the Delta Episode which I still haven't played through or something.

It's a long shot, but a Challenge Mode available from the offset? They racked the EXP growth rate up to 11 in the Gen VI titles...how about letting us pick our own pace? Please?

Also. Gotta catch 'em all. ALL. For crying out loud, let me catch everything between the two versions! PLEASE! You can do it with the Mystery Dungeon games, so do it with these! PLEASE! I'll never say a mean word about Pokemon again if I can just fully complete one of the games! You've had your fun, it's been twenty years, it's time to let us catch 'em all!

Resp February 26th, 2016 9:29 AM

I hope they introduce actual evolutions for older lines instead of ONLY mega evolutions.

Nah February 26th, 2016 9:29 AM

I want them to blow me away. Make me want to play this game over and over and over again, make me want to keep playing this game till the end of time! Craft us the best damn story the series has ever seen, give us so much post-game content I will drown in it, make some of the coolest 'mons the series has ever seen! Try to replace Gen V as my favorite generation Game Freak, I dare you! These are the games for your series's 20th anniversary, now more than ever is the time to pull out all the stops and show us what you can do! The franchise needs it.

GAME FREAK TRAINER CUSTOMIZATION PLEASE

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire February 26th, 2016 9:31 AM

I'm hoping that they'll reconsider having DLC. If they don't want to have paid DLC it's fine, they can have free DLC (like a battle facility for those of us who want one, and I wouldn't mind having for free at all xD).

TCB February 26th, 2016 10:11 AM

Know what I hope to see? An improvement graphically and visually of the game world/Pokemon/etc. Lemme explain.

Graphically I see the transition from X&Y -> ORAS -> S&M in the same way like D&P -> Pl -> HGSS, with each successive game in the 4th Gen looking better visually and graphically as the last. By that logic, Sun & Moon could look even more impressive than ORAS did. With that said, even adding looking touches like actual swaying grass patches, seasons (PLEASE BRING THOSE BACK GF), stuff like that. Hell, maybe we may get amiibo support for these games?

As for the overworld character models...I liked them. If Game Freak can round out the models akin to how they were in, say, Battle Revolution detail-wise I'm all for that. Also customization, please bring that back and have more option for males. And more of a variety of skin and hair models.

Mind you, I'm saying I did like the chibi-fied models; in my opinion it was a definite step up from the sprite work.

Basically I'm hoping for a more polished and vibrant looking world between a cross of Super Mystery Dungeon and ORAS.

Omg yes that would be great. Oooh what if you could transfer your trainer with all their pokémon to X and Y later? :D

MarinoKadame February 26th, 2016 11:01 AM

It got confirmed that MissingNo is still catchable in the VC games, now I wonder if people will try to transfer it with the Pokebank.

I'll love for seasons to return, but what we've seen thus far is tropical looking, if the whole region is like that we might only get rainy and dry seasons.

Universe February 26th, 2016 11:52 AM

I've noticed an odd theme going on that I wanna share:

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/1/14/718Zygarde-Complete_XY_anime.png/600px-718Zygarde-Complete_XY_anime.png http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/d/d4/Magearna_XY_anime.png
http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/4/44/721Volcanion.png/600px-721Volcanion.png
http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/a/a7/Sun_Version_logo_Jp.png http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/f/f8/Moon_Version_logo_Jp.png

All of these new Pokemon/Forms and the colors featured in our logos have the commonality of red and blue to indicate two separate pieces/elements. The sun's gonna have some obvious association with heat and apparently the color red. The moon has associations with the ocean and tides, as well as the color blue. Volcanion's Water/Fire with secret associations to Magearna, and Zygarde is powered by photosynthesis.

Not a coincidence. But I don't have many thoughts on what it means yet. Maybe Day and Night Forms? Obvious association with X&Y in some way?

TCB February 26th, 2016 11:53 AM

I'm from the islands too, and looking at the shots we have makes me believe you're right.

Which I'm all for by the way.

And to touch on Universe's post...that's highly interesting there. Maybe Volcanion and Magearna may have some part to play in Sun and Moon. After all, the latter's appearance reminded others of Diancie, which is a Kalos Pokemon. At the same time Volcanion is as well, but for some reason I feel as though we may not get a western distribution for it in the Gen VI games, but in the Gen VII ones instead.

Almost all games were Red ans blue..

1. Red and Blue --> obviously
2. Gold and Silver --> we can extend the color gold to somewhat red and silver to somewhat blue...
3. Ruby and Sapphire --> Red and blue
4. Diamond and pearl --> Kinda pink-y and blue
5. Black and white --> ... the exception
6. Y and X --> Still red and blue

The new logo are red and blue, but that doesn't men anything for me... They can be linked, like they can be all new region.

Reshiram glows red while Zekrom glows blue. Black 2 has blue on it's logo, and White 2 has red on it's logo. I kind of wished they had used red and green instead.

Cherrim February 26th, 2016 12:05 PM

I'm going into this with a pretty open mind but if a game called "Pokemon Sun" doesn't have areas where the weather is Sunny Day (like rainy areas, snowy, etc.) I'm gonna be so mad. So mad. Just give me a route where I can eternally hang out with a Sunny Cherrim, is that so much to ask???

Tbh a heavy darkness for nighttime while we're at it could be kinda cool, too.

Amourshippingfan23 February 26th, 2016 12:13 PM

I want trainer CUSTOMIZATION return to.
I want new Pokemon as well new TM/HM and new items.
One ting I want the most are at we can have traveling companies as well pokemon follow after us, like in Pokemon Heartgold&Soulsilver.

eevee-4-ever February 26th, 2016 12:17 PM

What I'm hoping for is since they showed all the past games, that maybe that means we will be able to travel to all regions. I would also love character customization to come back from x and y. Maybe even new Pokemon. Just found out about this today and I am very very excited!

Abby February 26th, 2016 12:23 PM

Ok I have one wish, and It really shouldn't be hard to fufill. AN ICE TYPE EARLY IN THE GAME. Preferably before the third gym.

Nekaku February 26th, 2016 12:30 PM

The trainers look idk how to put it more legit but at the same time pop up book style. Maybe it is is just the one shot and it will look different in a video.

They also showed all the past initial pairs along with some third versions and remakes for XY's Direct, so it likely doesn't mean much by itself. What does interest me is what was said in the announcement trailer about it all "coming together".

This.

Is it too much to ask to have a snowy area appear in the first half of the game? (like before the 4th gym) I pretty much never use ice types in my main teams because I've long settled on my team by the time they start showing up.

It probably is too much to ask considering this new region looks tropical but whatever...

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire February 26th, 2016 12:41 PM

I'll like an early electric type like we had in DPP with Shinx, Pt was the only time I had an electric type in my early team.

Some more fire types would be good too.

Don't forget Mareep and Pikachu in some other games as well. Even Electrike in Hoenn is a close one, since it can be obtained just a little bit after 2nd Gym which I still consider "early".

Abby February 26th, 2016 12:46 PM

Ah yes, Blitzle was kinda early as well in Black & White, not so much Black 2 & White 2 though. Based on these, maybe we'll get another early-game Electric-type here as well.

poop face February 26th, 2016 12:54 PM

Of course, customization, and more of it.

And, this a massive stretch, but I hope for the post-game to be like Gen 2 where you get to re-explore the last region that game took place, or maybe, just to revisit Kanto in the game instead,

but considering how Yellow/Blue/Red are going to the VC, that more than likely isn't going to happen, but I just really loved having a multi region game so much.

I forgot about Mareep. Pikachu is rare to find so I didn't count it (at least in the Kanto games). I'm usually done with my team prior to the third gym.

I'm not sure if I want more megas or if i want them to cut on the amount of megas they give Pokemon. Probably 3 new megas or even 2. I just don't want megas to completely ruin how battles work. Give Megas to Pokemon that need it. That normal don't do so good in battle.

Christos February 27th, 2016 5:04 AM

I love seeing new Megas but I agree they should be giving them to weaker Pokémon that could use them. I'd be okay with maybe two or three mega evolutions for some of the more popular Pokémon, though.

I'd also like to see Keldeo get Ice Beam :)

silverwind93 February 27th, 2016 5:26 AM

One of my main hopes for the new games is an optional difficulty level (i.e. Black and White 2). I've seen lots of great ideas already in this thread, and agree with pretty much all of them. It would be great to be challenged by a Pokemon game, or at least have the option to be.

Hikamaru February 27th, 2016 7:37 AM

You know, looking at the 3D rendering this game is likely going to have being more advanced than 6th Gen, I'm hoping the Pokemon models actually have effort put into the colour. 6th Gen was impressive with the cel-shaded models but the colours were kinda off, being more closer to the Sugimori art as opposed to most previous-generation sprites, so I'm hoping they colour them more like the 3rd-5th Gen sprites.

Altius February 27th, 2016 7:44 AM

More Fairy type attacking moves and TMs. Dazzling Gleam, Moonblast and Play Rough just aren't enough.

Lunar February 27th, 2016 9:14 AM

I think seasons and season exclusive forms of some Pokemon were really cool and I would love to see them return. Also I loved the islands style post-game of FRLG and think that would be really cool to have again. The suggestions of the region this game is based in being linked to Kalos similar to the way Kanto and Johto are is realistic (due to the train station in Couriway Town) and would be really cool.

Pokemon_Hero February 27th, 2016 9:18 AM

-130 new pokemon
-10 evolutions of past pokemon
-megas for gen 6
-100 new moves
-contests or something new rather than gyms
-having a possibility of choosing Johto starters
-new type

pkmin3033 February 27th, 2016 9:19 AM

Speaking of seasons...I'd actually like to see those return too, in conjunction with day and night, and have them properly incorporated into the game to affect what Pokemon show up and when. Why can't we have all the nice things? It'd be great if these things were incorporated - if snow blanketed the ground in one place in the winter, and if it snowed instead of rained along a route depending upon the season. It'd also be a great way to split up Pokemon by route...a lot of Kalos' routes felt a teensy bit overcrowded, especially the earlier ones. It'd also eliminate the need for radars and the like.

Hikamaru February 27th, 2016 9:24 AM

I am hoping for season as well, because I find it so baffling that they ended up being a Unova-exclusive feature. I know that Masuda wants each region to have something specific that defines it uniquely, but there could have been other options for the "region-unique" feature. Like how trainer customization should not have been Kalos-exclusive.

pkmin3033 February 27th, 2016 9:28 AM

The region exclusive feature for Unova should have been rotation battles, really...seasons just have so much to offer; they're perhaps the one thing that Black/White introduced (asides Meloetta, of course) that I really liked, and I was quite disappointed to not see them in Kalos, which would have really benefited from it. But then, X and Y were very much trial run games I think; in Sun and Moon, hopefully they'll re-incorporate a few things they took out, for a more complete experience.

MarinoKadame February 27th, 2016 9:35 AM

List of features and mechanics I want in Sun and Moon.

-Seasons
-Night and Day
-Weather
-Moon Phases going from New Moon to Full Moon
-Tides changing depending of the Moon Phase, giving access to places needing a certain tide height
-Lunar and Solar Eclipses
-New Moonlight in-battle weather
-Sun Phases
-Intense Sunny Day depending on the Sun Phase
-Moon and Sun affecting weather
-Special weather when on Full Moon, Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse.

Nakasu February 27th, 2016 9:11 PM

Seasons definitely need to return. I'd also love to see a really cool weather system. No need for HMS which probably won't happen ever

PageEmp February 27th, 2016 9:31 PM

PLEASE BRING BACK THE POKELOTHAN FROM HGSS. And maybe make plot revolve around it or what.

François February 27th, 2016 9:41 PM

I'd be very disappointed if seasons didn't come back, given I was really sad that they weren't in X&Y. Honestly one of my favourite things about generation 5 was seasons, especially winter as the whole region was just gorgeous in the snow. I'd love it if we got to see that again, especially as it feels very awkward that Sawsbuck just... doesn't get to use its whole gimmick anymore. Kalos was a very pretty region, and I think it's a waste that we didn't get to see what it looks like at different points of the year.

Flowers. Nintendo be crazy having a game about flowers. Wow.

I'm probably asking alot. :C

pkmin3033 February 28th, 2016 6:43 AM

It would be pretty cool if the following feature return; it was a nice little aesthetic touch in HGSS that really added a lot of charm to the game. I can't see them doing it for Sun and Moon though, considering it'll probably use the same polygonal models that the previous 3DS games used...as amazing as it would be to have some of the larger Pokemon following you, it'd probably take forever to sort it all out...it's definitely within the 3DS's capabilities though.

Famon February 28th, 2016 6:56 AM

---Dunsparce's evolution

---Many agile and big non-legendary quadruped pokemon like Arcanine.

--- Mystical or Pseudo-Legendary pokemon like these -

--- Horse and Unicron pokemon.

---Angel Pokemon.

---New Pokemon World Tournament

---Red return for a side-quest to help the new protagonist.

Seriously , How long it will take for GF to release new information about Pokemon Sun & Moon ?

That doesn't seem to look like a Gym, since I know that in 5th and 6th Gen all the Gyms in those games had a special logo on them, and that is just a standard Poke Ball icon.

Maybe , It can serve as a excuse for Misty to reappear.

It could be a possibility that the mansion may appear in a city with a Water-type Gym.

pkmin3033 February 28th, 2016 7:07 AM

If Misty appears in the games I will be very, VERY surprised. Sure, it's a year for throwbacks and whatnot, but in the games at least Misty has never been that big of a deal unless you got repeatedly pounded by her Starmie in your first game like I did so it'd be odd to see her randomly reappearing like that. It could just as easily be an excuse for Wallace to appear.

GMeister February 28th, 2016 11:31 AM

I do not wish much though, but I wish the max 510 EVs increases to 762 EVs. With that you can have 3 stats which can be trained by using Super Training or the manual EV train instead in the previous game you can only fully train 2 stats. This might be too technical, but this tehnical stuff what makes me love about Pokémon battle.

Yes! This! This was a great part in HGSS and I hope they bring it back. It'll look great with the 3DS fx, but it probably won't happen D:

But I'm also hoping for...
  • Dark Gym type.
  • Definitely more Fairy types.
  • More side quests.
  • Mega Evo of Snorlax/Arcanine/Pangoro
  • More character customization!

baceevee February 28th, 2016 2:21 PM

I'm hoping for a lot of the same things that have already been mentioned. I'd like to see a challenge mode with more intelligent AI's who have mons with better movesets and a higher level curve. Would also love a Nuzlocke mode, but I don't see that happening. I'd like to see character customization return, although I think they should add a few more skin tone options, hair colors and hair styles. I'd love to see new Fairy types and a few new Dark types. I'd love to see Umbreon and Espeon get Megas in this game. Would love to see your Pokemon follow you again. A decent post-game. And for the love of all that is holy, can we go back to having one rival?

Like I said, it's mostly things that everyone else has mentioned on this thread, but I think we will get most things we have all mentioned. It's the 20th anniversary, and they aren't trying to disappoint anyone, as others have said.

Seeing as this game is most likely based in Hawaii, it would be very likely that we might be able to play in the Unova as post-game well. Hawaii is a part of the US, after all. Most likely we would have to go there by plane because I doubt a level 4 Pidgey could survive that long of a travel and boats/surfing would take to long.

Why Hawaii specifically though? It does appear to be some sort of tropical region from the images, but there's a lot of tropical islands/countries out there.

GF needs to update some abilities in the game. For example, Turboblaze and Zekrom's ability. In previous games, these two abilities causes move can be used on target regardless of the target abilities. Well, logically Reshiram and Zekrom are airborne during battles. Thus, their abilities need to gain same effect or ability of Levitate.

firekid115 February 28th, 2016 4:28 PM

People are thinking hawaii mainly due to the rainbow that can be seen on one of the trucks in the concept art that was shown during the trailer. There's other things too such as

-the woman in X/Y that says: "I hear there is a waterfall that flows backward somewhere in the world! I really want to see that!" T

-Strange souvenir looking like a tiki

I'm starting to think something similar to Hawaii may be our new region as well.

Like how trainer customization should not have been Kalos-exclusive.

Kalos's feature wasn't customization, it was overpriced pants

adameastment February 28th, 2016 5:46 PM

Ok guys, I have a lot of speculative thoughts about the new games. I may be way off, but please bare with me!

So first and foremost, I think that Pokemon Sun and Moon are Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire sequels/spinoffs and may well feature a link to Hoenn or possible be a two region game. My reasoning? Well, lets go through them one by one..

Pokemon Sun and Moon are named, of course, after the sun and moon. But Hoenn, had a lot of links to space and atmosphere, whether it's the pokemon themselves - Solrock and Lunatone are the obvious ones, Rayquaza being related to space through the Delta Episode, Deoxys being an "alien" pokemon, Jirachi being a star. I know many could say the same about Mt Moon in RBY but it doesn't tie as well in my headcanon.

Next, the location, Hoenn is already an incredibly varied location - but is well known for it's water locations and it's very tropical feel. This just seems to further tie in with my theory that it's possibly a "sub region" from Hoenn - similar to how Johto was a separate but connected region to Kanto and arguably the theory that Sinnoh is linked to Kanto/Johto through the mountain ranges. It just seems to connect the two somehow.

Thirdly, ORAS (for me at least) seemed like it was much more about the story of Mega Evolution than XY ever was. To me it seemed like ORAS should have been the 2013 release and XY the 2014 release, purely because it seemed like ORAS had known about Mega Evos for years now but XY/Kalos it was a brand new thing and there were aspects that didn't quite add up - yet the games still seemed to be linked together. But it seemed like Game Freak wanted to get XY out as quickly as possible to introduce the new Pokemon in before they produced the true heir to Gen 6.

In addition to that, Game Freak seemed to "skip" the remake in Gen 5 - why do I bring that up? Well, because the 3DS was released in 2011 but Game Freak/Nintendy didn't utilise the 3D until 2013/2014 so surely that could have meant that they had been working on the 3D models and effects, perhaps simultaneously since the release of the console? The possible debunking of that was because we'd already had 9 games on the DS console and they wanted to hold off, but I'm avoiding that idea :p

And for the finale... Game Freak are in the mood of giving us curveballs now. Rather than giving us Grey we got BW2. Rather than an abundance of new Pokemon we got 60 new original Pokemon and 30 or so Mega Evolutions in XY. Wouldn't this just cement their new position in giving us something that's original yet harks back to the olden days of Pokemon?

Oh, one last thing. The fact that the Battle Frontier Project has "begun" in ORAS. But we have no Battle Frontier to speak of? Why not revisit the island in a year or two? ;)

Thanks guys.

I also still believe that Z is on the way.

Nakasu February 29th, 2016 4:12 AM

I don't know, i don't see Pokemon Z still being a thing. I think whatever they wanted to expand in Kalos can be doable in this game too. I can see then fitting Perfect Zygarde and everything into Sun and Moon.

Also Pokemon Following you needs to make a return.

Harmonie February 29th, 2016 4:30 AM

I hope that graphically and gameplay-wise it is 3D more like OOT. X/Y were still very 2.5D, battles/Pokemon aside. I'm assuming that this won't be changing for Sun/Moon, but I can wish.

I hope that we stick to a Europe-based location for the setting. I love Western culture, and especially Europe, so I love to see regions based off of them.

Add back trainer customization!

Sabrewulf238 February 29th, 2016 6:13 AM

I'm not sure if I should really expect this....

but I would love if they finally expanded on the idea presented by Lacunosa town in the 5th generation games.

That is, make it so NPCs have actual schedules that they stick to during the day and night. If the name of the titles suggest they're going to be focusing more on the day and night cycle I think this would be a pretty obvious way of developing it further.

One interesting possibility. What if there were multiple Gym Leaders for each gym, and they worked in shifts. So depending on the time of day you challenge a particular gym you'll face off against a different gym leader. (and you'd be able to find the off duty gym leader hanging out somewhere else in town)

It would be like if Iris worked the day shift and Drayden worked the night shift in Opelucid City.

I would do so much for making the world seem alive. If they could do this it would really shake things up I think.

Inky February 29th, 2016 11:49 AM

Hopefully less of a focus on Megas.

A gimmick I really wasn't a fan of.

shadowmoon522 February 29th, 2016 1:26 PM

wouldn't it be funny if that hotel-like place is in Phenac City or Gateon Port?
3 years: barren wasteland to desert with a few oasis
20 years later orre has become a tropical jungle.

Taking it one step further...how about a rival getting the other mascot Legendary?

Actually making them relevant to the story would be pretty cool, in my opinion! Rivals haven't really been relevant since Blue/Green/Gary (whichever) became the Champion before you; they've just been kinda...there.

I feel like Silver (more so in HgSs) and May/Brandon (again more so in the remakes, OrAs) played some role, but I would like them to expand it from there. Also, hopefully the champion will play a role again, unlike in XY where she was just there...

Yeah, Diantha was definitely a letdown for her utter lack of doing pretty much anything. Cynthia in particular felt quite relevant because she was actively out there doing things through the game, and Blue/Green/Gary was always one step ahead of you, so as a Champion he was satisfying. I loved taking on Team Rocket with Lance in GSC as well.

I really hope the next Champion makes themselves relevant...if it was in an antagonist role, so much the better. Someone who used their influence as Champion for their own personal gain would be a nice change of pace.

magicalgirlj February 29th, 2016 5:39 PM

Character customization- Game Freak should not let this go to waste.
The Dex Nav- This was really useful
Pokemon Amie and Wonder Trade- I would be heart broken if they did not come back
A dark type gym- Come on Game Freak enough electric type gym's. Give us a dark type gym already.

Ah yes it's so annoying how we've now had an Electric-type Gym in five out of six regions (only Johto hasn't had an Electric Gym). It's making me think that Game Freak are heavily obsessed with the Electric-type for some reason.

Not to mention they only have one weakness... I think that electric is treated better because Pikachu is an Electric type.

Ah yes, the thing known as Pikachu Fanservice. But I feel that with all the Electric Gyms they are fast running out of ideas for the Gym Leader and badge names.

Having the Champion being completely unknown with very few vague hints throughout the game given to you...

Spoiler:
only to be met with the Professor after beating the last person of the E4

I honestly wish that this was what happened in X and Y. It would have been really cool.

My hopes are:

More in depth story, copy what BW did.

Doubles grass

keep all shiny methods and rates the same as gen 6

more rival battles

hard mode option

given the gym leaders and E4 more story focus.

More detailed plot

Wrap up the ORAS and XY plot lines

bigger and more unique over world( which seems to be the case)

Return of last pokemon gym leader theme

Every leader gets a mega after they introduce the mega ring

and lastly evolutions to past pokemon. Megas are nice, but I still want regular evos.

I'll agree with this. I was quite disappointed in Gen VI only have Sylveon, and one of my biggest gripes with Gen V was the complete lack of link to previous generations. It just doesn't feel like Pokemon if it doesn't tie into previous generations in some fashion. I'd like at least four or five evolutions or pre-evolutions of past generation Pokemon in these games, to provide that solid link with the past. It gives a nice sense of continuity.

FireSnow February 29th, 2016 11:08 PM

I love so many of the ideas that everyone before me said! The one thing that stand above all else for me that I hope will be implemented is having some connection to the Kalos region and being able to travel there, a la Pokemon GSC and Johto/Kanto. Those games are my favorite ever due to the awesome postgame and being able to fully travel Kanto. So if that happens in SM, I can safely say that GSC will have some competition at the top.

WingsofBliss February 29th, 2016 11:52 PM

I had hoped that we would've gotten a teaser trailer or at least the mascots, but ehh...

- First priority, Dark-type Gym. 'Nuff said.

- Sorta hoping that this might be the Johto-version of Kalos, for the sake of giving Zygarde some closure and availability of its Formes in at least a post-game. But, an all-new experience is something I'm more than willing to look forward to. Interesting tidbit, but an NPC in Anistar City(a Hex Maniac I believe?) mentioned the existence of "moondials". Sundials and Moondials, eh?

- Those titles and logos are now officially my favorite out of the whole series. Freaking gorgeous, I hope their box mascots are just as awesome.

- The logos and Magearna are giving me steampunk-space-celestial vibes, ala Disney's Treasure Planet.

- There seems to be a space-celestial thing going on with what we can gather from the titles, even the space art in the lettering background. Was the Delta Episode the tip of the iceberg? As in, will we start having battles in space environment more often? OH GOD, IMAGINE BATTLING ASTRONAUT TRAINERS ON THE MOON!

Famon February 29th, 2016 11:58 PM

Let see --

--- A New "Pokemon World Tournament"

--- Pokemon Contest returns

--- Red appear as a NPC to help the player in a side-quest.

--- Dunsparce's Evolution

---Megevolution for all Starter.

--- A new process where you can fuse 2 mega stone of Charizard to create One single Mega Charizard.

Nakasu March 1st, 2016 11:54 AM

I can see them definitely adding a new World Tournament, since its looking like its going to be a much bigger game. Hopefully a nice post game island chain will be good too.

I recall the PWT was one of the most loved parts of B2/W2, so it'd be nice to see it return with more Gym Leaders, and maybe even Elite Four members could join the lineup this time around.

Jude92 March 1st, 2016 1:26 PM

As for me I would love to see a return of the PWT. This was one of the best ideas Game Freak has ever had.

Other than that I would like to see the complete removal of the necessity of HMs. I mean, how about "assigning" a certain Pokemon to every HM without them needing to take up slots in your team, kinda like it was done with Latias/Latios in ORAS.

Also a good postgame would be nice (like HG/SS or BW2).
I know, people wish for it every time a new game is announced, but getting to return to an older region postgame like in Gold/Silver would be one of the greatest things ever!

Oh, and lastly I hope that they keep the amount of legendary Pokémon small and don't go completely insane with the numbers. *cough*gen4*cough* :D And no more Mega Evolutions, please...

Having all these things would be great, but we'll see.

BettyNewbie March 1st, 2016 2:29 PM

The main thing I want to see these games do is break established formulas and try something different. With slight variations, the games have pretty much been following the same basic formula since RSE:

- Get flung into a brand new region with no connection to any of the others

- Many of the new Pokémon are obvious expies of earlier ones (like the regional birds, Pikaclones, etc.)

- Few Pokémon from previous gens are available before the postgame

- Mascots are a competing Legendary Trio, at least one of which is Dragon type

- Plot centers around brand new Evil Team trying to use one of the Box Legendaries to take over the world

- Opposite gender player character appears in the game as a friendly rival

- Champion is a friendly older mentor figure who first appears in the middle of the game to help you against the Evil Team

- Final showdown against the Evil Team and mandatory Box Legendary encounter happens exactly between the 7th and 8th Badges

- No postgame beyond legendary hunting, battle facilities, and possibly a few islands

And, so on...

Why should Sun/Moon have to follow this same basic formula, especially when the last new games (XY) did nothing but reveal how tired and overdone it was? Like, why can't the new region be directly linked to Kalos just like Kanto and Johto were? Or, why can't we see the return of Team Flare instead of drudging up yet another brand new "Team _____"? And, does the plot REALLY have to center around a competing Legendary Trio all the time?

And, why waste Pokédex slots on new expies of old Pokémon when you could just instead use older Pokémon to fill those slots and focus on fresher and more original concepts for the new Pokémon. Like, do we really need another Pikachu when we already have the original, plus Plusle/Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, and Dedenne? And, we now have 6 gens' worth of cocoon bugs, why do we need any more?

I'm sure this is all wishful thinking, but to me, the big 20th Anniversary release needs to be something other than a formulaic retread of the same basic ideas we've been seeing for almost 15 years now. Sun/Moon need to be far more special games than, say, DP or XY.

PageEmp March 2nd, 2016 4:23 AM

I think there should be an option for the main character to punch other trainer/buildings. I know it very unlikely since it's probably gonna take a crapload of programming, but who knows?

Programming isn't the issue. The fact that it's aimed at kids makes it pretty unlikely. Unless you mean like rock smash on smashable things then I don't think we're going to get that sort of thing in these games. There's always the punching bag in Gen 6? :)

Amourshippingfan23 March 3rd, 2016 4:20 AM

One thing I wish they add in Pokemon Sun&Moon are scooter istand for bicycle.
I'm getting tired of bicycle since we add bicycle in all Pokemon games.
And the next are option to buy our own house where we can rest and train pokemon.
the last are new TM/HM and your rival/friend would follow you through your journey.

WingsofBliss March 3rd, 2016 8:04 AM

I really hope that we don't gotta wait until E3 for more info like I have seen several people in the fandom suggest. That's too long of a news drought and kind of unrealistic IMO.

Although... now I'm starting to wonder, because of Pokemon GO's VGC presentation for this month being cancelled. They strongly hinted at GO having some sort of compatibility or connection to the main series games when GO was revealed, what if developement problems with S/M is the cause of this cancellation?

That is an interesting theory... I don't know if GO is meant to have a connection to Sun & Moon, given GO seems to be a smartphone app, while S/M is a full-fleshed main series game. I heard the cancellation was so the developers could focus more on successful beta testing.

Rivvon March 3rd, 2016 10:42 AM

A Dark-Type Gym, preferably 7th or 8th in the league.

A difficulty option accessible from the start of the game.

A Battle Frontier; the PWT could be located within it.

An underground and base system, similar to the one in DPP.

The game takes place simultaneously with X & Y. The post-game allows you to travel to Kalos, and triggers the beginning of a storyline similar to X & Y, but incorporating Zygarde, effectively acting as a "Pokémon Z."

The return of Pokémon following you.

The return of character customization.

A Key Item that you can teach four HMs to ("HM Doll").

A gripping, thought-provoking story with complex characters and lore.

I want an NPC to appear on the boxart, along with the mascot. Who the NPC would be would be heavily dependent on what the plot entails, but I think it would be nice to have an NPC on the boxart for once along with the mascot (even if the mascot wasn't a legendary). (For example, maybe a special wrap-around boxart with the mascot and one of the protagonists on the front, and the villain and another appropriate Pokémon on the back, as if they're ready to face off against each other.)
  • Going off of this, HGSS effectively had two boxarts because the game came packaged with the PokéWalker device. If Sun & Moon were to contain some sort of external device (maybe the Pokémon Go watch-like thing, since apparently Go is meant to connect to the main series in some way?), the outermost box could have a "special" boxart like the ones I've described, while the boxart for the game itself would have a more standard, Pokémon-only design.

There are other things that I think would be fun little bonuses, but I think this is a good starting point for things I really, really want (read: think should be included) in these games.

Salamence™ March 3rd, 2016 10:52 AM

Pokemon walking by your side like Soulsilver/silver heartgold/gold.
A hard mode option like Pokemon BW2. (Maybe gives tough trainers like E4 Champion etc. good IVs, Good nature and good EVs.
Old Shiny appearance rate. (Too easy to find them these days)
Evolution to former Pokemon instead of mega evolution. Still waiting for dragon type eevee and a poison one ;)

I do hope we get an Electric-type Elite Four member, since it's like one of six types that an Elite Four member hasn't used yet, plus it would stick to Game Freak's obsession of putting an Electric specialist in the games.

MarinoKadame March 3rd, 2016 4:04 PM

I would see an Electric, Rock, Normal and Fairy Elite 4. The Champion being multitype like Green.
