The 7th generation is in Singapore ?!

Raffles Hotel ??
It's the same!!

Charlie Brown February 26th, 2016 7:40 AM

Are you referring to this screenshot?

Hmmm I definitely do see a resemblance!

Altius February 26th, 2016 7:42 AM

Oh man. OH MAN. I'm Singaporean and I actually fail to notice the resemblance...

I'll be flippin if these games were to be based in my country.

TCB February 26th, 2016 7:43 AM

I will go out on a limb and say that it's very well can be based after the Ruffles Hotel in Singapore. Here's a concept art piece for comparison:

Charlie Brown February 26th, 2016 7:46 AM

If so, I'd be sooooo keen for the region to take place across maritime southeast Asia or even southeast Asia as a whole

Iceshadow3317 February 26th, 2016 7:48 AM

Someone pointed out that this building is probably some sort of Aquarium. The game looks massive compared to the side of some of the art.

It is obviously based in a tropical region with there being palm trees. And there is a strong resemblance.

Hikamaru February 26th, 2016 7:50 AM

I never knew that, but interesting to see you point it out.

The Water-Pokemon painted on the building make it seem like an aquarium but the girl in front of the building has a suitcase so I don't think it's an aquarium (unless it's also a hotel!).

I feel it's unlikely but it'll be very interesting if the region is based on Singapore, especially we'll get a region based on an Asian country other than Japan, since we got US and France

I am all for this region to be based around the region (hah) of Singapore and south east Asia. I think it can work too:

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire February 26th, 2016 8:34 AM

I'm getting flashbacks to when Gen V was announced. Irc some of us (including me) thought that Unova was based on Singapore over New York city. It'll be nice if we finally get that Singapore region.

Altius February 26th, 2016 8:36 AM

Well, one picture is definitely not enough to prove anything.

Unless it's something much more iconic, say... Marina Bay Sands.

Iceshadow3317 February 26th, 2016 8:39 AM

Yeah i would really love to see the region map. Just to get an idea of everything. I am still surprised they didn't do anything at all other than just confirm the games and show a few screenshots.

It would seem that Pokemon Rainbow was indeed true as a place holder name. Both come out at the same time. That means the game took half of the 3DS total budget for this game. We could be going to all of the islands around Singapore as well.

Pokemon_Hero February 26th, 2016 8:42 AM

By the way. But the old pokemon are there too. Maybe this also means we won't have many new pokemon in this gen. Maybe only 70-80 to get to 800 but not more.

Sopheria February 26th, 2016 8:43 AM

It's a pretty generic looking location...Sun & Moon could very well end up being in a Singapore-based region, but I don't think one screenshot of a generic-looking building & fountain is anything to go by in that regard :P It would be pretty neat though!

Kinda out of topic, but the Odd Generation have a tendency to have more than even number ones. 1st = 151. 3rd = 130 or 135. 5th = 156.

I don't think it will have as many as these with Megas, but I can see us getting around 119 or so, bringing to total to 840.

Although it is a generic looking building, it is deadly accurate almost to the point of the whole building.

Dedenne1 February 26th, 2016 9:43 PM

Im with Sopheria on this one it resembles it in some ways but its only one building and its only a teaser so i find it likely yes but i wouldnt really infer on it from the info given.

Iceshadow3317 February 26th, 2016 9:52 PM

There has been a few strong speculations that says that Sun and Moon might be Hawaii. And I tend to believe it more at the moment until we can get a map.

Same here. I feel ashamed that I didn't notice the uncanny resemblance to Raffles Hotel.

While the building may look generic, I'm pretty sure that not a lot of buildings have that same colonial style and facade. A region based on Southeast Asia would be really cool if this reference holds true.

jombii February 26th, 2016 10:15 PM

It's nice to see that we're going Southeast Asia. There is a lot of things going on down here and Singapore is a perfect place to start! We could have real-world references like the Merlion and stuff. It'd be nice.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire February 26th, 2016 10:20 PM

I'm hoping it'll be (south) France, Germany, Spain, or the U.K. I'm hoping that we can return to Kalos like we could to Kanto in GSC.

It is still possible that the town is based on Singapore but not the whole region. They did it before with Sootopolis being based on a greek island (the real island in Japan is barren irc).

Zet February 26th, 2016 10:24 PM

Probably not going to be Singapore. The codename for S&M was Rainbow, and Hawaii is the rainbow state.

That leak is probably fake, but who knows at this point, we will have knowledge if it's true or not when they announce the release date. If it's November or December 21 or before it's likely true as the Rainbow leak said it'll come out fall 2016, and the reveal trailer for NA said Holiday 2016.

BadEgg~ February 26th, 2016 10:42 PM

Having lived in Singapore in the past, I am gonna flip out (in joy) if Sun & Moon is based on SG - or anywhere in Asia that isn't Japan for that matter. Maybe we'll have some kind of Merlion equivalent XD

Altius February 26th, 2016 11:37 PM

There's quite a lot of speculation saying that the new region might be Hawaii, which also seems likely because of the yellow fire trucks and the rainbow licence plates. Not to mention that Hawaii is also pretty much tropical and has a lot of fine hotels (tho I'm not sure if there any that looks like the one in the concept art).

Hoenn already got a negative reputation for having "too much water", and Hawaii seems to have even more of that. If the new region is really based on Hawaii, I wonder how will Gamefreak tackle this issue before 7.8/10 reviews pop out again.

Then again, Singapore is just too small. It doesn't have anything much besides a lot of high rise flats and other man-made structures.
