Travel Journal
Figured we could use a thread to write down updates on our adventures through Kanto now that RBY have been re-released 8) Feel free to get creative with your updates!

Ok well here goes nothing.
I started off by naming my character RED as a throwback to the original red v blue rivalry. (in the spirit of this rival is named BLUE.) After withdrawing my secret potion I chose to head out to the tall grass but was stopped by an old man and given 2 things. 1. A starter pokemon - for this run I chose bulbasaur because while he wasn't my first I figured hey same game new system so different starter then usual. Bulbasaur - Gaia (achievement get) 2. A pokedex - the second item given to me by the professor was something he called a pokedex which he then tasked me and his grandson BLUE to go and complete his magnum opus. Pokedex Quest - (achievement get) After a bit of training near viridian city and having caught a new teammate (a spearow named GALEWINGS) we choose to stock up on various items before heading out into the loaming viridian forest home to all sorts of horrid bugs. Upon entering the forest we were ambushed not by trainers or even hostile insects but instead by an electrical rat attempting to make off with our food. Instead of letting the pest escape do Gaia quickly trapped the pest and I caught it with a poke ball. (pikachu named KAMINARI). After such an eventful day starting my journey through Kanto. I've made three new friends and I see only greatness in our future. Team Bulbasaur - Gaia Spearow - Galewings Pikachu - Kaminari |
Pokémon Yellow Journal
I named my trainer Ryan and decided to make it an Electric Monotype. Ryan plans to become Kanto's Premier Electric Trainer. Events -Received Pika the Pikachu from Oak. - Beat Rival Gary's Eevee in Oak's Lab. - Got Package for Oak - Beat Gary again on Route near Viridian City. - Travelled through Viridian Forest beating the Trainers there. - Beat Brock's Gym Trainer. - Ground Pika to Level 16 for battle with Brock. - Defeated Brock with Pika. Geodude wasn't too tricky but Onix was a real wall and had Bind which trapped Pika at times. - Travelled to Mt Moon defeating Trainers on the way. Current Team Pika the Pikachu - Level 18 |
So far I've played 43 minutes, 20+ of which were searching for a damn Pikachu in Viridian Forest. (I wonder how much of my life has been wasted on that activity over the years)
I chose Bulbasaur (which I always picked when younger) and so far have caught Pidgey, Weedle and Pikachu. I arrived in Pewter City, but I think I need to go back to catch Mankey and have the second battle with Gary. I feel your pain with Clefairy. |
I brought Blue and Named my trainer Blue, (cos like who loves originality haha) anyway so far I have delivered oaks parcel and I am in veridian city and am about to proceed over to pewter city and get my first badge :P
|
I just caught A PIKACHU!!!! in viridian forest :D TOO HAPPY RIGHT NOW :P
|
I've been playing Pokemon Yellow. Currently leveling up on route 22.
I have Pikachu of course and I also caught a Nidoran(M), Nidoran(F) and a Mankey. Boxed Nidoran(F) already. Not sure if I want to keep any of these Pokemon. We'll see I guess. |
Look what I just caught! ^^
http://i.imgur.com/mOf9Ifo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZPLxphB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/dxH4VXG.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XLbb2ET.jpg tl;dr the Mew Glitch is still a thing! |
Welp, I just entered Mt. Moon with three Pokemon at Level 16 (Pikachu, Pidgey and Nidorino) in my copy of Yellow. I'm taking my sweet time with it and enjoying the experience.
I'm not sure what my final team will be, though. For one, I don't know if the Mew glitch will work in Yellow...and for two, I just caught a Clefairy and I dunno if I want to use it instead of Nidorino. Clefable...or Nidoking? I've never used either in a game before, and both can learn a nice wide variety of TMs. It won't take much to bring my Clefairy up to speed with everyone else, so it's a possibility. Of course, I could ditch Pidgey and use both, buuuuut...I'd feel weird not having a Pidgey in my team before Articuno. Plus I'd need two Moon Stones. Pretty sure you only get one in Mt. Moon. Hmmm. Help. xD |
Just defeated Brock with my Pikachu, I thought I would struggle like I did originally but this time I spammed tail whip while using potions and then quick attack whenever I can, I plan to add more pokemon to my team once I reach Cerulean City
Team: Pikachu Lv14 |
Just caught my Nidoran! The current team is Christos the Nidoran(male) and Kaori the Pikachu. I haven't had much time to play because I've been busy but I should have plenty of time now. On my way to battle Brock 8)
|
I am now on the brink of six hours play time and I only have the first two badges, but I'm liking the look of my team. Leech seed is so useful in fights you shouldn't win on this game.
Team: Ivysaur Lv20, Pikachu Lv16, Butterfree Lv18, Pidgeotto Lv19, Mankey Lv12, Dugtrio Lv29. I'm now one pokémon away from my ideal team (I want to complete the game with my favourites). Dugtrio is the one who will eventually make way, hopefully for Dragonite, but the other five are with me until the end. I need to train up my newly caught Mankey and then hop on the SS Anne. I have 22 in my pokédex which is much closer than I usually am to Gary's boast on the ship. |
Pokémon Yellow Electric Monotype journal
Rolled through Mt Moon and defeated Jessie and James with Pika the Pikachu and now have my second Badge after defeating Misty and defeated Rival Gary by Nugget Bridge. Current Team Pika the Pikachu Level 24 Thundershock Mega Punch Slam Thunder Wave |
Pokémon Yellow Electric Monotype Journal
In a suitably Titanic Battle Pika the Pikachu defeated Lt.Surge's Raichu in a battle of Mega Punching Electric mice earning me the Thunderbadge. Pika is starting to get Overlevelled. I have picked up the three Starters. It's a shame I can't use them other than for HMs. Current Team Pika the Pikachu - Level 33 Bulby the Bulbasaur - Level 10. Knows Cut. |
Currently levelling up Nidoran [M] so that he can learn Double Kick, otherwise it's almost impossible to defeat Brock when playing Yellow! I'm going to try and catch as many as I can since we're able to transfer to Sun & Moon once they are released. 8)
Team Pikachu Lv. 8 http://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen1/yellow_gbc/025.png - Thundershock - Growl - Tail Whip - Thunder Wave Nidoran ♂ Lv. 7 http://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen1/yellow_gbc/032.png - Growl - Tackle Pidgey Lv. 7 http://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen1/yellow_gbc/016.png - Gust - Sand Attack |
Almost spent ten hours on this now and I'm about to raid the Rocket Game Corner. 3 badges and 26 in the pokedex so far. Hoping to complete the game without blacking out since I've made it this far without doing so.
Team - Ivysaur Lv. 27, Pikachu Lv. 22, Butterfree Lv.23, Pidgeotto Lv.20, Mankey Lv.21, Dugtrio Lv.35. I need to get Fly to make Pidgeotto more useful. I have a thunderstone ready for Pika when he hits Lv.31. |
My events of yesterday (well in-game events) started with me naming my character Mando and my rival Revan. When it came to picking my starter, I of course chose Squirtle. After going to Viridian City to get Oak's Package, I headed back to Pallet Town to get the Pokedex. Funny thing, after getting the Pokedex, I forgot to get the Town Map. After I bought myself some Pokeballs, I caught some Pokemon on Route 22 and Viridian Forest.
When I reached Pewter City, I visited the museum and then went to the gym where I beat Brock. That was an easy battle. After I finished my business in Pewter, I headed to Mt. Moon. While I was going through there, I encountered Team Rocket. After making my way through all of the Team Rocket members and the Super Nerd, I picked up the Helix Fossil. I then headed to Cerulean City. While I was in Cerulean City, I battled and defeated Misty. After beating her, I went to visit Bill at the Sea Cottage. When I visited him, I remembered to add a few pages to my Pokedex. After that, my next objective is to go to Vermillion City. I have seen 43 Pokemon and caught 13 Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Squirtle -> Wartortle) Lv. 28 Moves: Water Gun, Mega Punch, Bubblebeam, Bite Zemus (to be caught) Exdeath (to be caught) Kefka (to be caught) Gabranth (to be caught) Cid (to be caught) |
Wow, I just encountered and caught a Clefairy on the first floor of Mt. Moon.
That's like a 1% chance. {D:} I'll take that as a sign to add it to my team. (well I was going to do that anyway) Edit: and I just encountered another Clefairy as soon as I went downstairs. I'm drowning in Clefairy over here. XD |
I defeated Misty earlier on, I've just arrived in Vermillion City, just caught myself a Diglett, I'm going to try and train my team so they all match up in levels
My team: Pikachu Lv25 (a little over levelled as I only used Pikachu until Cerulean City) Bellsprout Lv20 Charmeleon Lv20 Diglett Lv19 |
I meant to type this yesterday, but I was so busy playing Red, I just forgot. Anyway, I started playing yesterday and I decided to use my very first Kanto team. I chose Charmander, named him Charles, and crushed Blue's Squirtle. After defeating Blue again in Route 22 and getting some Poke Balls from Oak (yes, you can get Balls from Oak as long as you beat your rival (after delivering the Parcel) without buying any Poke Balls, then returning to Oak), I caught Isabella (Nidoran-F) in Route 22, then took about an hour trying to find a Pikachu. After all of the Weedle and Kakuna that got in the way, at last, I found Nikola! Welcome to the team, old friend! After grinding everyone, I decided to take on Brock without getting a Butterfree, because I like a challenge! To be honest, he wasn't that hard. Between Geodude and Onix's low Special, Onix wasting turns with Bide while Charles Growled at it, and Brock wasting turns using a Full Heal every time Ember scored a Burn (and it Burned a lot, surprisingly), the Boulder Badge was easy to get.
Both Charles and Isabella evolved at Route 3. Don't worry, Nikola. You'll get your Thunderstone later. Mt. Zubat Moon proved to be as annoying as ever. I found a Moon Stone, but I decided to wait a bit before giving it to Isabella. I usually don't like to evolve my Pokemon too soon. I crushed Team Rocket (although the one with the Lv. 16 Raticate was kinda tricky. How the hell does one get a Raticate before 20, anyway?) I chose the Helix Fossil (praise Helix!), but I don't plan on using it. After finally leaving Mt. Zubat Moon, we hit Cerulean City. Next time, we crush Misty, crush Blue, find new teammates, and perform one of my favorite glitches of all time. Current team: Charles the Charmeleon (Lv. 20) Isabella the Nidorina (Lv. 19) Nikola the Pikachu (Lv. 20) |
After training Diglett and my other pokemon to catch up with Pikachu I battled all the trainers on the SS Anne, defeated Gary and obtained the cut HM from the captain, I've just defeated Lt. Surge on the first attempt, I forgot he only had one pokemon, my Dugtrio did all of the work.
Team: Pikachu Lv26 Weepinbell Lv26 Charmeleon Lv26 Dugtrio Lv26 |
Just caught Mew on Nugget Bridge! It was pretty straight forward, I was worried it was going to be more of a hassle.
Team right now: Pikachu lv 18 Nidorino lv 18 Clefairy lv 16 Mew lv 7 I'm debating whether to replace Nidorino with an Oddish. I kinda want to use Vileplume. I'll probably keep Pikachu for Misty and then box him afterwards. |
Thanks to paralysis, Misty's Starmie didn't even get to touch Nikola. Cascade Badge get! After defeating Blue, the five Nugget Bridge trainers, and the Team Rocket guy, I was finally able to find and catch Oddish. Welcome back, Rafflesia! I also managed to get an Abra for the Mew Glitch without any difficulty. After catching Abra (who will remain nameless, as I don't plan to use it), it's time to get me a Mew. Two Mew, in fact. The first one was caught with no trouble at all. For the second, I decided to get it at Lv. 1 to do the EXP Underflow Glitch. Bam, instant Lv. 100 Mew (that I don't even plan on using)!
After grinding Raff (which took forever by the way; Absorb, why are you so weak?) and the rest of the team, getting the S.S. Ticket from Bill, and defeating the Team Rocket Grunt that gave me Dig, I decided Isabella deserved to evolve now. Hello, Nidoqueen! Not long after, Raff evolved, too! After being annoyed by the fact that Nidoqueen can't learn Dig in Gen 1 for some stupid reason, I gave Dig to Charles. Hello 100 Base Power move! Routes 5 and 6 were uneventful, but I finally reached Vermilion City! And I can finally buy Super Potions! I was seriously getting annoyed with only being able to restore 20 HP. After beating up some Trainers in Route 11, I decided this would be a good place to rest for now. Next time, S.S. Anne, Lt. Surge, and cutting down some trees! Current team: Charles the Charmeleon (Lv. 24) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 24) Nikola the Pikachu (Lv. 22) Rafflesia the Gloom (Lv. 22) |
[ 3 hours into my game so far! I'm currently wandering around Cerulean Cave trying to nab a Clefairy to add to my team and slowly, but surely, training my team on these very low-leveled Zubat and Geodude... haha. Right in the childhood. |
Going through Blue for the first time ever. Picked Squirtle as my starter. Caught a female Nidoran on Route 22, won the Boulder Badge, caught a Paras in Mt. Moon, and barely won my rival battle in Cerulean City.
That's all I have done so far. Got caught up in the Twitch Watches Pokemon marathon more than a few times. |
S.S. Anne was easy. Other than the Body Slam TM and slamming Blue into defeat, nothing else of note happened here. Since I wanted Body Slam on more than one of my Pokemon, I decided it was time to use the Mew glitch to find Missingno. and dupe my irreplaceable TMs. (I also decided to keep one of the Missingno., even if I don't plan on using it.) Some may see this as cheating, but honestly, why play RBY instead of FRLG (other than for nostalgia or personal preference) if you're NOT going to abuse glitches? Anyway, I duped Body Slam and other TMs, as well as Rare Candies. However, I'm only going to use these Rare Candies to level up other Pokemon for Pokedex completion purposes and not to overlevel my current team. We don't need to make the game any easier.
Next, I needed a Cut user, so I caught a Spearow and traded it for DUX. Now, it's Gym time! I was contemplating getting a Diglett just to curbstomp Surge, or just wrecking him with Isabella, but as the person who decided to solo Brock with a Charmander, I figured why not make this battle so unnecessarily difficult as well? Besides, I plan to save Isabella for another Gym. No, it was Rafflesia's time to shine! Despite getting outsped by everything and Absorb making the battles take longer than needed (seriously, why is Absorb so weak?), the Gym overall was surprisingly easy. Raff didn't even get paralyzed once! (So much for all those Paralyze Heals I bought!) Maybe it had something to do with all those Sleep Powders she threw around that crippled everything. Nevertheless, Thunder Badge obtained, Thunderbolt TM obtained and to be cloned so both Nikola and Isabella gets a nice new move, and thank you Raff for being such a boss! Afterwards, I went through Diglett's Cave and narrowly defeated two OP Dugtrio. I got a Mr. Mime by trading an Abra I caught earlier (not the one I used for the Mew Glitch), got the Old Amber from Pewter Museum, and obtained the useless Flash HM from Oak's aide. With everything done, it's time to head to Cerulean City to redeem the Bike Voucher and get a Bike (which I forgot to do when I first got it), and progress! Next time, Routes 9 and 10, Rock Tunnel, and Lavender Town's beautifully depressing music! Current team: Charles the Charmeleon (Lv. 24) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 26) Nikola the Pikachu (Lv. 26) Rafflesia the Gloom (Lv. 26) DUX the Farfetch'd (Lv. 3) (HM user) |
Well I did not do much in Blue yesterday. (On account on the fact I watched the Oscars). Course here is what I did yesterday.
My events of yesterday started with me recovering TM28 from the Team Rocket member who stole it. I then headed through Route 5 to the Underground Path. After taking said Underground Path, I ended up on Route 6. While I was on Route 6, I battled every trainer there. Course the trainer with the Butterfree was an annoying battle. I then reached Vermillion City. While I was in Vermillion City, the first thing I did was obtain the Old Rod. I then headed over to Diglett's Cave where I caught my second team member. My next objective is to explore the S.S. Anne. I have seen 46 Pokemon and caught 14 Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Wartortle) Lv. 31 Moves: Water Gun, Mega Punch, Bubblebeam, Bite Kefka (Dugtrio) Lv. 29 Moves: Scratch, Growl, Dig, Sand-Attack Zemus (to be caught) Exdeath (to be caught) Gabranth (to be caught) Cid (to be caught) |
Route 9 was uneventful. I could have done Rock Tunnel in the dark, but since I didn't want to miss any Trainer, I decided to catch a Voltorb in Route 10 (not going to use it in battle, so no nickname) and teach it Flash. To make it up to it, I gave it cloned Rare Candies until it evolved into Electrode. Rock Tunnel itself was a boring grindfest as usual, although I did like that one Hiker who quoted Pat Benatar's song. Hit me with your best shot! Fire away! Also, Rafflesia finally learned Acid, which means she won't have to rely on the weak Absorb to deal damage. Despite Acid being a weak move, it deals a surprising amount of damage! Then again, I'm probably used to the low damage of Absorb.
Finally, I'm done with that cave and I reached Lavender Town! Thanking Electrode, I box it and get back DUX from the PC. I'll need DUX soon. I go straight to Route 8, skip as many trainers as possible, and take the Underground Path to Route 7 and Celadon City. First thing I do is go to the back of Celadon Mansion and get Eevee. Welcome back, Chelsea! If you couldn't already tell from the pun in her nickname, Chelsea's going to become a Vaporeon. I already have Charles and Nikola, so a Flareon or Jolteon would be redundant. Then, I go to the Celadon Department Store to get some evolutionary stones, which means Nikola and Chelsea both evolved. I also gave Chelsea Bubblebeam, so she can actually attack with a move that doesn't suck. I'm not going to evolve Raff just yet, since I'm waiting for her to learn Petal Dance before I evolve her. (Insert line about Absorb being weak here) While I'm at the store, I pick up some drinks to give to the girl at the rooftop in exchange for TMs I'll clone later. I also get an extra Fresh Water to open the way to Saffron City. I also give Nikola a Submission TM so he's no longer walled by Onix and Geodude. Next, I head west to Route 16, ignore the Snorlax blocking the way (I'll come for you later), and have DUX cut the tree blocking the way to the girl who hands out the Fly HM. I immediately teach it to DUX. Yay, instant travel! Since Chelsea is underleveled compared to the rest of the team, I decide to go to Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town to beat down Blue's team. Even without gaining any levels since I got her, Chelsea just dominated his team. I didn't even have to heal at all. What a boss! After that, I went back to Celadon and got the Coin Case. Gambling time! Speaking of time, I shall crush Erika with Charles, storm the Team Rocket Hideout, and finish the Pokemon Tower and rescue Fuji...next time on Dragon Ball Z! Current team: Charles the Charmeleon (Lv. 29) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 29) Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 29) Rafflesia the Gloom (Lv. 29) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 26) DUX the Farfetch'd (Lv. 3) (HM user) |
Been getting my grind on before I face Misty, though i've already been down to Vermillion (mostly for training purposes, but also to get a Bike Voucher).
Trying to keep my Pokemon unevolved until they learn everything I want them to learn and then letting them evolve. It takes more time, but I think it's worth it to have fully evolved Pokemon with powerful moves earlier. |
OK, let's give this "Travel journal" thing a try... I'm playing the Red version.
I picked Charmander as a starter, and defeated Blue without a problem in Oak's lab. After a trip to Viridian City, I decided to see for myself a dialogue I have never seen before in Pokémon RBY... to this end, I did some grinding (until my Charmander was at level... 14, something like that) , curb-stomped Blue on the route west of Viridian City, and then headed back to Pallet Town. Sure enough, Prof Oak noticed I didn't have more than one Pokémon yet, so he gave me some advice and 5 Pokéballs (and the dialogue box glitched up while he was talking... I tried doing it with a French version afterwards, it glitched there as well) . With the free Pokéballs and the ones I bought at the Poké Mart (by spending all my money) , I started filling up the Pokédex. I didn't have any trouble finding a Pikachu in Viridian Forest, but for the life of me couldn't find any Caterpies. All the trainers were easily dispatched by my Charmander. Pewter City... the only Pokémon able to do anything so far was my Charmander, so I just went with it. After defeating the first trainer, Charmander evolved. Brock went down easily. I used Ember on Geodude, and while it was admittedly tedious, it... just worked. But when Onix came up, I decided to be a little smarter. I started using Leer and Growl repeatedly on Onix, while he tried using Bide and failed. After that, a few Scratches and the rock snake was down. I crossed Route 4 while avoiding as many trainers as I could. I had a plan in mind... after entering Mt Moon, I captured the next two members of my team: Geodude and Paras. After that, I went back to route 4 and fought all of the trainers, using the opportunity to level up my two new teammates. I don't usually buy potions unless I'm about to fight the Elite Four, so I travelled a lot between the route and the Pokémon center... and then between the Mt Moon Pokémon center and Mt Moon itself. After exiting Mt Moon, Geodude and Paras had almost caught up with Charmeleon. With no grass or electric Pokémon on my team, I decided to avoid fighting Misty for the time being. Instead of that, I went north and captured an Abra... yeah, for the Mew glitch. I originally didn't want to use Mew on my team, but then remembered that Charizard didn't learn Fly in this version. I usually don't repeat types on my team, so I ended up including Mew as a fourth member of my team with the intent of using it as transportation. I kept going until I reached Bill's house, training all Pokémon on my team (and, from time to time, going back to the Cerulean Pokémon Center) and Geodude finally evolved. With two Pokémon being weak to Misty's type, one being completely neutral and one having a type advantage but no grass-type moves, I was still wary of fighting Misty. So, I went south instead, using the opportunity to get the Dig TM and use it on Graveler. I traded a Spearow for DUX the Farfetch'd, and kept it on my team for the time being, so that I could teach it Cut. And then I headed west. After defeating all the trainers on the route (and returning to the Pokémon center only once) , I ... still wasn't confident about fighting Misty. So to the SS Anne I went. Like a maniac, i went from cabin to cabin, making sure nobody was left unfought :) . And, get this: Paras evolved! And, frankly, its move Leech Life, at least to me, started... not sucking. Maybe it's the stats, I don't know. Anyway, I met up with Blue (and destroyed him, once again) , got to the captain, rubbed his back, learned I had no more space in my bag, threw an Escape Rope away, rubbed his back again and got my HM! Here I was, with no more trainers to fight... I couldn't delay the inevitable anymore! I returned to Cerulean... and then remembered I'd forgot to get the Bike Voucher. So back to Vermilion I went... So, here I am, Cerulean Gym. Misty's Staryu went down after a few Pounds by Mew, and then Starmie came on. For the longest time, ever since I started playing Pokémon, that Starmie was my nightmare. For some, it's Whitney's Miltank, for others it's Morty's Gengar. For me, it's Misty's Starmie. And then... Misty was strangely indecisive in her moves when facing my Parasect (I guess, it's the game's poor AI reacting to having a Grass-type Pokémon in front of it) . A few uses of Leech Life later, I was done and the second badge was mine. I went back to Vermilion immediately, curb-stomping pretty much everyone with Graveler, and got my third badge. I immediately went to Route 9, again, fighting everyone and going back to the Pokémon Center from time to time... and then remembered something. I didn't have HM05. So, back to Vermilion I went. I crossed the Diglett Cave, capured a Diglett, didn't encounter any Dugtrios (good), emerged on Route 2 and got my HM05. Completely forgot going to Pewter City to get the Old Amber, though. Anyway, I crossed Rock Tunnel (ugh) and emerged from it with my team barely alive. After healing my Pokémon, I started thinking about adding two more members to my team, and two candidates popped into my head: Dewgong and Electabuzz, of which I had neither. And then I thought: what if... instead of waiting until late in the game to get the two, what if I used the Mew Glitch to get them earlier, even at much lower levels? After all, the trainer that I used to trigger the glitch was still unfought, and all I had to do was to get two Pokémon with the right special stat and meet a wild Ditto (and I've finished the game without using glitches in any way at least a dozen of times, so now I just wanted to have fun :P ) ! And then, I remembered: Ditto is only encountered around Fuchsia City, and to get there, I needed a Pokéflute... so, I had to deal with Team Rocket first. But at first, i decided to give my team an extra boost. I started a new game on my other 3DS, and traded Graveler back and forth to evolve it into Golem. I went to Celadon City while avoiding all trainers (still had to fight one, though) and after getting there, stealing an Eevee from some dude's desk, getting an HM02, using HM02 on Mew and giving a drink to a guard, I got my Coin Case and headed to the Game Corner. There, I checked whether the slot machines still worked (they did :) ) , fought the team Rocket grunt and... well, cleaned up the entire hideout, leveling up my Pokémon along the way. Golem was clearly the most useful Pokémon on my team, and, thanks to the weird weakness to Bug-type moves Poison types have in this gen, Parasect was a great help as well... when it got the opportunity to attack first, that is, otherwise its double weakness to poison was a huge hindrance. Mew knew no psychic-type moves (yes, I know about the TM I can get in Saffron, I just want Mew to learn it on its own) and Charmeleon didn't get much use neither due to its type not being effective. With the Sylph Scope was in the bag, I flew back to Lavender and went to the tower. Again, due to an abundance of poison types, Golem and Parasect were kings, and since Parasect isn't weak against ghost-type moves, this is where it really got to stretch its legs. But a lot of battles were slowed down by the ghosts using Lick and paralyzing a lot of my team. Parasect at least got to retaliate with Stun Spore, so there's that. By this point, I started feeling a bit underleveled, I have no idea how I managed to get to the top of the tower without losing any battles, and reaching Fuji was a huge relief. With the goal of glitching an Electabuzz and either a Seel or an underleveled Dewgong into existence still on my mind, I immediately headed west and woke up the Snorlax by the Cycling Road. Parasect knew Spore, so I kept putting Snorlax to sleep, but Parasect's other moves barely made any dents in Snorlax's hide, so I gave up on trying to lower its HP, and just threw Great Balls, hoping to get lucky, all while using Spore whenever it woke up. I got lucky, Snorlax was caught. I managed to cross the Cycling Road without fighting any trainers, and got to Fuchsia. Browsing through the stats of my Pokémon and the list on Bulbapedia, I noticed that Charmeleon's special stat matched Electabuzz's index number. I flew to Cerulean, freaked out the lone unfought trainer by flying away from him, defeated another trainer, met a Ditto, allowed it to become my Charmeleon and knocked it out, but in the meantime, between the trainer and the Ditto, my Parasect had fainted. Not thinking much of it, I returned to Cerulean, triggered the wild battle with a level 7 Electabuzz... and then threw a Great Ball at it and my ball "Missed the Pokémon"! Meaning I absolutely had to inflict a status on Electabuzz. Only two of my Pokémon could do this: Charmeleon could try to inflict a burn on it, but even Ember from a level 30 Charmander would obliterate a level 7 Electabuzz, and Parasect had fainted. So I gave up. I realized then that I was at a point in the game where I could get the two Pokémon legitimately with only two obstacles in my way. The first one was the Safari Zone, where I got the Surf HM, and that was quite simple. The second one, however was Koga's Gym. My Pokémon were all around level 30, and only one of them was 100% good against Poison types... oh well. Might as well give it a try. Needless to say, I returned to the Pokémon Center after each and every fight. The difficulty was in large part self-inflicted: not only was I underleveled to begin with, I also wanted to use the opportunity to level up my Charmeleon (yup, I was at a point where my starter was lagging behind the rest of my team) , and tried the switching tactic. The fight with Koga went... rather well. Golem took a beating, but still knocked out three out of Koga's four Pokémon, and then he sent out Weezing. Sensing danger, I switched to Mew. Mew still didn't know any psychic moves, so I decided to weaken Weezing in another way: by lowering its accuracy. After three Flashes, Weezing used Self-Destruct... and missed! The badge was mine. Immediately, I used HM03 on Snorlax and headed to the Seafoam Islands, where I caught a Seel. A Seel that had the same level as my team! So yeah, I was really underleveled for this place. Then I went to the Power Plant and caught myself an Electabuzz, which, again, was around the same level as my team. Now, I have my full team:
And that's pretty much where I'm now. My plan now is to bring my reign of terror to the route between Lavender and Saffron, get Erika's Badge, take on the Team Rocket, demolish Sabrina with my Parasect, and then, since I'm not in a hurry and want to have a powerful team by the time when I reach the Elite Four, battle every single trainer on mainland Kanto before heading to Cinnabar Island. |
Holy crap, getting coins for Porygon and Dratini took forever! Nevertheless, I now have both in my Pokedex, and Dratini was fed a truckload of cloned Rare Candies. Dragonair and Dragonite get! Then I boxed them both. After that, I went to Celadon Gym. The entire Gym was actually not a complete pushover, to my surprise. Charles's Ember only managed a 2HKO on everything, which meant that he kept getting statused. After using tons of status healing items, I decided to leave Charles poisoned so that he couldn't be paralyzed or put to sleep. After beating Erika's Vileplume, Charles learned Slash. Thanks to Gen 1 crit mechanics, Slash is essentially a 140 base power move with no drawbacks! Also, Rainbow Badge get! Raff definitely appreciates Mega Drain over Absorb, even if it's still kinda weak.
Next was the Rocket Hideout. Thanks to soloing the first half of the place, Chelsea is now caught up to everyone else (except Charles, who is now higher leveled than everyone else thanks to the Gym). Overall, the place was easy. Even Giovanni was a pushover! Silph Scope get! After getting a Gastly and Cubone for the Pokedex, I sprayed a Super Repel so that I wouldn't be bombarded with encounters every two steps. Raff crushed the ghost Marowak with her new move. After clearing the three Rocket Grunts and getting to Fuji, I now have a Poke Flute. Time to sell the Awakenings! Snorlax, I told you I'd come for you! Thanks to Raff's Sleep Powder, I easily caught Snorlax and I now have a full team! Welcome aboard, Eric! Also, until I need trees cut down and fly to places, it's time to box DUX for good. Thank you for the help! Now I just have to grind, clear Routes 12-15 and Cycling Road (not to mention knocking out the other Snorlax), and finally reach Fuchsia City. But I'll leave that for next time! Current team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 30) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 30) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 30) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 32) Rafflesia the Gloom (Lv. 31) Charles the Charmeleon (Lv. 33) |
Well even though my previous entry mentioned that my next objective was going to the S.S. Anne, it was not the first thing I did while playing yesterday. The first thing I did was trade a Spearow for a Farfetch'd. After that I headed to the Pokemon Fan Club to get the Bike Voucher. I then headed to Cerulean to use it to obtain the Bicycle. Then it was time to head to the S.S. Anne.
When I was on the S.S. Anne, I battled every trainer there. I even used one of the TMs found there to teach Kefka a new move. I also added Snorlax's page to my Pokedex. After doing everything on the S.S. Anne, including battling Revan, I then headed to Route 11 to level up Garland and Kefka to get ready for the next gym battle. During my gym battle with Lt. Surge, I only used Kefka. After defeating him I left Vermillion City by taking Diglett's Cave. After going through Diglett's Cave, I obtained HM05, Old Amber, and TM42. My next objective is to head to Route 9 to reach Rock Tunnel. I have seen 58 Pokemon and owned 16. Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Wartortle) Lv. 35 Moves: Water Gun, Mega Punch, Bubblebeam, Bite Kefka (Dugtrio) Lv. 33 Moves: Scratch, Body Slam, Dig, Sand-Attack Zemus (to be caught) Exdeath (to be caught) Gabranth (to be caught) Cid (to be caught) |
Well, finally getting to play my Red version. Rushed through first few old places with Charmander/Charmeleon, beating Brock in process. Then returned for Nidoran(male). And then... then... then... Then Charmeleon forgot how to Ember. Now I have fire breathing lizard without any fire attacks :D
Current team: Charmeleon, the not so fire breathing lizard (lvl 24) Nidoking (lvl 23) |
Defeated Brock which was much easier than I thought thanks to Double Kick! I actually got through Mt. Moon pretty quick and have made significant progress in the short time I've been playing. I've found myself attempting to capture all Pokemon in each area and it has gone well so far. Currently at Route 25 battling the trainers to prepare for Misty.

Today was nothing but a grindfest. Then again, seeing as Koga's ace is Lv. 43, I could use all the EXP I can get. Speaking of levels, Charles finally reached Lv. 36. Hello, bad-ass not-Dragon! Just 10 more levels until you get a Fire move that doesn't suck! Anyway, this would be the point I teach Charles Fly...if he could learn it. Seriously, why can't Charizard learn Fly? Thankfully, Yellow fixed this.
While grinding, I noticed that for some reason, Isabella still didn't have a STAB move. Exactly why is Nidoqueen unable to learn Dig until Gen 3? Anyway, I decided to fix this by visiting Silph Co. early to get the Earthquake TM. After grabbing the TM and teaching it to Isabella (finally, a Ground move!), I left Silph Co. to grind some more. Team Rocket and the plot can wait. I'd rather beat Koga first. In addition, Rafflesia finally learned Petal Dance, which means that not only does she now have a offensive Grass move that doesn't suck, she also no longer needs to stay unevolved. One Leaf Stone later, hello Vileplume! Yay, fully evolved team! After evolving, I also gave her Body Slam, so she could have yet another move that doesn't suck. Holy crap, her moveset actually looks great now! After grinding everyone to Lv. 38, I decided that it should (hopefully) be enough for the Gym. Koga, prepare yourself, because I have a Nidoqueen that's really eager to wipe the floor with you! Next time, wrecked Gym, Hell Safari Zone, Surf and Strength TMs, and maybe do stuff in Saffron City. Current team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 38) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 38) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 38) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 38) Rafflesia the Vileplume (Lv. 38) Charles the Charizard (Lv. 38) |
This is coming from my Nuzlocke run of Blue

I finally defeated Erika, my team is a little bit overlevelled as I headed to Fuchsia City so I could obtain the good rod and catch a Poliwag, I've been using him in battles on Cycling road and the route to the east of Fuchsia City (although I haven't battled all of them yet)
My team: Pikachu Lv36 Weepinbell Lv34 Charizard Lv36 Poliwhirl Lv35 Dugtrio Lv36 |
I'm doing yet another Nuzlocke in Yellow! So let's get this one started!
After the usual startup sequence, Pikachu became my partner, and it was time to battle my rival, Gary. His Eevee absolutely destroyed my Pikachu, which did not fill me with high hopes about the remainder of this journey. But, putting that behind me, I nicknamed Pikachu "Ender" and headed off to deliver Oak's parcel and get some Poké balls. With Poké balls in bag, I wandered around a little to catch some Pokémon. My capture on Route 1 was Rose de Nose the Rattata. Route 22 netted me Petra the female Nidoran. And Route 2 was where I found Bean the male Nidoran. I didn't play much after that. The only thing accomplished was the beginning of Ender's training montage. Spoiler:
|
Damn, Isabella is such a boss! Not only does she tank a Super Effective Psychic from a Hypno the same level as her, but she also OHKOs all of Koga's Pokemon, even scoring a critical hit on his higher leveled Weezing! Soul Badge get, Toxic TM that I'm not using get, and now we can Surf...once I get the HM from the Safari Zone. Unsurprisingly, I fail to catch everything I saw, except for a Rhyhorn. I saw a Tauros and two Chansey flee as I failed to catch them. Oh well, I'll just use the Fight Safari Zone Pokemon Trick to battle them without the Safari Zone BS later. I also skipped all of the items (except the Gold Teeth and HM03 of course), since they weren't worth running out of steps for. Both Chelsea and Eric were taught Surf (Chelsea for STAB and Eric for use with Amnesia). After returning the Gold Teeth to the Warden, I got Strength and taught it to Charles, since he had an open movepool and I got tired of boxing someone just to get an HM user.
With Surf in hand, I backtracked to earlier areas and got some new TMs like Softboiled and Pay Day. Now backtracking to Saffron. I'm probably going to clear the Fighting Dojo and Silph Co. tomorrow. I don't really care which Hitmon I get, since I'm not going to use it anyway. See ya next time! Current team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 38) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 42) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 38) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 38) Rafflesia the Vileplume (Lv. 38) Charles the Charizard (Lv. 38) |
Cleared the two routes above Cerulean city, beat Misty, cleared the route above Vermilion, hit the Pokemon Center, and saved.

I did not do much in my game yesterday. My events of yesterday started with me going back to Vermillion by taking Diglett's Cave. After getting through Diglett's Cave, I headed back to Cerulean to get to Route 9. Nothing to eventful happened on Route 9 except for the fact that Garland evolved to its final form. I also caught a Voltorb, whom I taught Teleport and Flash to. My next objective is to go through Rock Tunnel. I have seen 63 Pokemon and owned 18.
Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Wartortle -> Blastoise) Lv. 36 Moves: Water Gun, Mega Punch, Bubblebeam, Bite Kefka (Dugtrio) Lv. 34 Moves: Scratch, Body Slam, Dig, Sand-Attack Zemus (to be caught) Exdeath (to be caught) Gabranth (to be caught) Cid (to be caught) |
The Fighting Dojo was as easy as I expected it to be. I chose Hitmonchan so I could trade it to my brother and let him have both. I can just use the Mew Glitch and get both Hitmons anyway. Silph Co was of course a rather long grindfest. I started by going straight to the 5th floor, grabbing the Card Key, and then completing Silph Co. in floor order so I don't miss anything. I let Nikola destroy Blue's team alone, and had Raff solo Giovanni. Both were easy and not really worth going into detail. After getting Lapras (boxed) and the Master Ball, I could finally leave!
Having bought a Poke Doll earlier, I visited the Copycat's house and trader her the Doll for the Mimic TM (and helped myself to the Nugget hidden on her desk). Time for Sabrina! As usual, Eric tanked and destroyed everything (although the Gastly and Haunter were kinda annoying). Eric took out all of Sabrina's Pokemon in one hit, and the Marsh Badge and Psywave TM are ours! Thank you for the awesome job Eric! Next time, we take on Routes 19 and 20, Seafoam Islands (saving Articuno for later), Cinnabar Island, and maybe mess around with the Old Man Glitch! Current team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 41) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 42) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 43) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 41) Rafflesia the Vileplume (Lv. 41) Charles the Charizard (Lv. 42) |
Just defeated Sabrina, it was easier than I thought it was going to be, my Snorlax wiped out Abra with one hit from Submission (I accidentally selected it trying to use Body Slam) and Kadabra with one hit from Body Slam, Alakazam took two hits of Body Slam.

Didn't do as much today. I suppose. Cleared out the S.S. Anne, beat Surge, and started clearing out the route to the East of Cerulean City.

I spent my day kicking Team Rocket's ass in the HQ, then did some more at the Pokemon Tower, caught Snorlax (ah the ol' Gen I mechanic of the Pokeball missing completely on harder-to-catch Mons I missed you) and currently getting the Rainbow Badge.

Got off to an interesting start. So after I caught myself Spearow and Nidoran, I went to Brock after I have my Nidoran, Dash, learn Double Kick. I decided to go against the trainer inside the gym so Dash can gain some experience, but then it got defeated by a Sandshrew, lol. I thought there was going to be one other trainer, so I trained Dash a bit more until it evolved into a Nidorino. However, there's just Brock lol. I defeated him easily, at least.
After finishing the gym battle, I totally forgot you can battle your rival at Route 22. So I backtracked to see if he's still there, but nope he didn't. Hey, it's been several years since I last played first gen lol. Shortly after training Hamilton, my Pikachu, and Bell, from a Spearow to Fearow, I went to Mt. Moon. I was in the last section of the cave and I came across a Paras. I had Dash battling it, but it then got struck by Stun Spore and paralyzed, lol. I didn't stock up on paralyze heal nor antidotes due to me purchasing potions and pokeballs mostly, so I used the Escape Rope to go back to Pewter City and stock up on those since I got some money from battling trainers and Team Rocket. Now I just recently entered Cerulean City, but I stopped the game there and will resume soon. Current Yellow Team Pikachu (Hamilton) - Lv 20 -Thundershock -Double Team -Slam -Quick Attack Nidorino (Dash) - Lv 23 -Poison Sting -Tackle -Horn Attack -Double Kick Fearow (Bell) - Lv 20 -Peck -Growl -Leer -Fury Attack |
I defeated Blaine earlier and went straight on to Viridian City to defeat Giovanni and obtain the final gym badge, now that I have it I am about to battle Gary again and head through Victory Road.

I did a lot in my game yesterday. My events started with me going through Rock Tunnel. I did manage to catch a Machop, but ended up wasting all of my remaining Pokeballs attempting to catch an Onix. Course going through there took quite a bit on Garland and Kefka. After going through there, I made it to Lavender Town.
While I was in Lavender Town, I stocked up on Great Balls. I then headed on Route 8 to the Underground Path that led to Celadon City. While I was in Celadon City, I obtained Eevee. Course since I was not going to use it on my team, I evolved it into Vaporeon. I also obtained TMs 13, 18, 48, and 49. I then proceeded to teach Garland and Kefka new moves. I then headed to the Game Corner, where apparently my skills at slots had not gotten rusty since I managed to line up three 7s on a diagonal. After that, I made my way through the Team Rocket Hideout. While I was there I battled Giovanni to get the Silph Scope. I then headed to the Prize Corner to get an Abra. Then I headed to the gym where I battled Erika. After I beat Erika, I decided to go to make a stop at Saffron. While I was in Saffron, I obtained TM29 from Mr. Psychic. I then went to the Fighting Dojo, where I obtained my third team member. After that, I made a quick stop over at Route 2 to trade Abra for Mr. Mime. Then it was time to head back to Lavender Town to go through Pokemon Tower. While I was in Pokemon Tower, I caught a Gastly, but accidentally fainted a wild Haunter. I then reached the top where I saved Mr Fuji. After that I received the Pokeflute. I then headed west of Celedon where I caught my fourth party member. I then headed on Cycling Road and made it to Fuchsia City. My next objectives are to battle Koga and do the Safari Zone. I have seen 92 Pokemon and owned 27. Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Blastoise) Lv. 48 Moves: Ice Beam, Skull Bash, Bubblebeam, Bite Kefka (Dugtrio) Lv. 43 Moves: Rock Slide, Body Slam, Dig, Slash Gabranth (Hitmonlee) Lv. 31 Moves: Double Kick, Meditate Cid (Snorlax) Lv. 31 Moves: Headbutt, Amnesia, Rest Zemus (to be caught) Exdeath (to be caught) |

I have been playing quite a bit on my Virtual Console version of Yellow. Today, I managed to beat Koga with my team mostly around levels 30-35. That was only because I used my Ninetales' Flamethrower to burn through Koga's three Venonat and his Level 50 Venomoth. I don't recall his team being this highly leveled... XD
Currently, I am trying to level grind my team a bit before saving Silph Co. from Team Rocket. Player name: Buddy Time: 17:09 Current Team: -Amber (Magmar, Level 15...thanks, Mew glitch!) -Jin (Farfetch'd, Level 35) -Renee (Wartortle, Level 33) -Chacha (Pikachu, Level 31) -Terry (Rhyhorn, Level 32) |
Did the usual Cerulean City stuff tonight. I first beat Misty, then after that went to the bridge and dealt with Team Rocket. Along the way I got Charmander as a gift, named him Zuko, and visited Bill. Trained Zuko until he evolved into Charmelon. Thinking I'll go ahead to Vermillion City next. Oh, and used the moonstone to evolve Dash into Nidoking as his Yellow movepool isn't too great without TMs, lol.

Playing Yellow. Here is a summary of what I've done so far:
- Got Pikachu. Caught Mankey and Caterpie near Viridian City. Evolved Caterpie to Butterfree. - Beat Brock using Mankey. - Crossed Mount Moon. Got the Dome Fossil. - Caught Abra on Route 5. I didn't know that Abra are no longer found on Routes 24 and 25 and spent a lot of time searching for one there. Performed Mew Glitch using the trainer on Route 24. Also got Charmander there. - Beat Misty using Butterfree and Pikachu. Put Butterfree and Mankey in the Box. - Got Bulbasaur. This one has a really good Special stat, must have very high DVs. - Went to SS Anne, got Cut and beat Surge. Went back to Route 2 via Diglett's Cave. Bulbasaur evolved into Ivysaur here. - I came back to Cerulean City via Mount Moon, and crossed the Rock Tunnel to reach Lavender Town. Butterfree was my Flash Pokemon and designated Zubat killer. Charmander and Squirtle evolved in the Cave. So far I have caught every single Pokémon available on all the routes so far. I haven't evolved them all yet. Also all Pokémon are under level 30. I am taking care to not get them overlevelled. |
I did not do much yesterday. My events started with me getting the Good Rod. I then headed over to the Safari Zone to catch more Pokemon. While I was there, I encountered a wild Kangaskhan which ran after I attempted to catch it. I was a lot more successful with the second wild Pinsir I encountered. I then headed over to the gym to battle Koga.
The battle with Koga was interesting. During the battle, I managed to freeze his Weezing despite the fact that Garland has gotten poisoned by it earlier. After I defeated Koga, I headed a bit east of Route 11 to get the Itemfinder. I then flew back to Saffron to get ready to remove Team Rocket from Silph Co. My next objective is to go through Silph Co. to get rid of Team Rocket. I have seen 99 Pokemon and owned 34. Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Blastoise) Lv. 49 Moves: Ice Beam, Skull Bash, Surf, Bite Kefka (Dugtrio) Lv. 45 Moves: Rock Slide, Body Slam, Dig, Slash Gabranth (Hitmonlee) Lv. 31 Moves: Double Kick, Meditate, Strength Cid (Snorlax) Lv. 31 Moves: Headbutt, Toxic, Rest, Skull Bash Zemus (to be caught) Exdeath (to be caught) |
Today I managed to clear out the route East of Cerulean City, Rock Tunnel, and the route above Lavender Town. Hit the Pokemon Center in Lavender Town and saved.
Current team: Wartortle (Level 30) Nidorina (Level 29) Parasect (Level 30) I plan on using the Moon Stone on Nidorina once it hits level 30, and hopefully I'll be adding a fourth team member soon. |
Some new stuff happened. I visited Vermillion City, and after a bit of detour went to the route pass Diglett's cave to catch myself a Drowzee. I then trained my Pokemon in Diglett's Cave after someone in one of the threads said it's a decent place to grind. That proved to be frustrating at times because sometimes the Diglett (and Dugtrio) can outspeed you with Dig, lol. I then decided to go to SS Anne with me able to defeat my rival fairly easy with just my Charmelon. Same thing when I went against Lt Surge. Last thing I did was making a short pitstop to get Flash.
Trying to decide now if I should grind a bit more in Diglett's Cave or go forward with the main story and head to Rock Tunnel/Lavender Town. I do want to get myself my last team member though (Eevee/Vaporeon)... Pikachu (Hamilton) - Lv 28 -Thundershock -Thunderbolt -Slam -Thunder Wave Nidoking (Dash) - Lv 27 -Poison Sting -Mega Punch -Horn Attack -Double Kick Fearow (Bell) - Lv 27 -Peck -Growl -Mirror Move -Fury Attack Charmelon (Zuko) - Lv 30 -Scratch -Dig -Ember -Cut Hypno (Mable)- Lv 26 -Pound -Flash -Headbutt -Confusion |
I finally got the game after some unexpected challenges.
I started! Whoo! Got my starter and went to Route 22 to capture Nidoran, which was a pain. I didn't realize how bad a 5% encounter rate was, I killed the first Nidoran because it was Lv. 3 and I wanted a Lv. 4. Then it took me an hour to find the next Nidoran and when I found it I did one Tackle and it was a critical hit and fainted Nidoran. Finally, I found another after 15 minutes, caught it and as I was leaving the grass a wild Pokemon appeared... yeah, you guessed it Nidoran. -____-; Here's my team before I face Brock: http://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/red-blue/normal/wartortle-color.png Hathor Lv. 16 - Tackle - Tail Whip - Bubble - Water Gun http://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/red-blue/normal/nidoran-m-color.png Horus Lv. 12 - Leer - Tackle - Horn Attack |
[ Haven't had many chances to play this week since I was busy but now it's the weekend and I have a little more time. <3 |
After taking a two day break from the game, I decided to play again and progress through the water routes. Everyone except Eric (even Charles and Isabella despite the type disadvantage) all gained a level or two from defeating all the swimmers. After reaching Cinnabar Island from Pallet Town (and abusing the Old Man Glitch while I was there, yay cloned Master Balls!), I decided to head to Seafoam Islands to catch stuff. Despite saying I'll leave Articuno for later, I changed my mind and decided to battle it now (even though I'm very underleveled). Instead of just lobbing my Master Ball at Articuno, I decided to try to capture the Ice Bird without it first. Thankfully, it didn't fire an Ice Beam at Raff while I was trying to put it to sleep. She wasn't even 2HKOed by Peck! It's either because Peck is weak, Raff is awesome, or both! Anyway, four Ultra Balls later, and Articuno was caught! Then I reset the game and lobbed the cloned Master Ball at it. At least you have Mew to keep you company in the Box, Articuno. The other birds and Mewtwo will eventually join you guys, too!
I didn't really do much else yet in Cinnabar Island, and I completely ignored the lab. None of the trades interest me, Metronome is too inconsistent to be worth picking up, and since I can Mew Glitch the fossils, I don't need to revive them. Next time, Pokemon Mansion, Chelsea destroying Blaine and the rest of his Gym, Power Plant and Zapdos, and grind for Giovanni if necessary. Current team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 43) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 43) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 43) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 43) Rafflesia the Vileplume (Lv. 43) Charles the Charizard (Lv. 43) |
Well... despite having a full team on my Red version, I still wasn't satisfied. Something bugged me. And then I got what it was: Mew. It is great, but I don't like using legendaries. Last time I played Red (after replacing my battery on the Red cartridge and to try out the Super Game Boy) I used Mew on my team as half HM slave, half last resort. This time, however, I decided to put it into a box and pick another Psychic-type Pokémon. I opened my notepad and planned out the teams for the other two versions, with the intent of not using the same Pokémon more than once. After thinking about what Psychic-type I could use to replace Mew, I ended up choosing Hypno. The problem was, however, that there was no one left on my team who could use Fly. Charizard was an obvious candidate for that, but he can't learn Fly in Pokémon Red! So... I put the Red version on stasis and started the Yellow version for the time being, all I wanted was to get to the point where I'd get the HM02, then trade my Charizard from Red there, teach it Fly, send it back and resume playing Red.
Red playthrough stops here. Yellow playthrough starts here. So, here I am, Yellow version. Just like what I did in Red, I did some grinding from the very start, demolished Blue west of Viridian City and returned to Pallet Town to get my free 5 Pokéballs. Between the free balls and the ones I bought, I could catch quite a few Pokémon, but ended up boxing all of them, except for a Nidoran♂ who stayed on my team. During the trek through Viridian Forest, I used Nidoran♂ almost exclusively (especially against cocoon Pokémon, for more experience :) ) and by the time I got to Pewter City, it knew Double Kick. Brock went down without a problem. Not much to say about what happened in Route 4 and Mt Moon, everything went as planned. I got to Cerulean, fought Blue and got to Bill's house. In the meantime, Nidoran♂ tried evolving, but I held it back: it was one level away from learning Poison Pin, so I thought I'd just let it learn it. One level later, I let it evolve. By the way, I got both Bulbasaur and Charmander, and simply boxed them. Every time I play Yellow, I feel obligated to use the three starters, this time I made a conscious effort to NOT use them. Besides, I already had a Poison type in Nidorino. I got back to Cerulean, battled the Team Rocket member and went south to capture an Abra... yeah, the Mew glitch just became a thing for me to do every time I play Gen 1. I caught Mew, and then boxed both Mew and Abra, as I had another Psychic-type in mind. I followed with a battle against Misty, where I used Pikachu's Double Team a lot during the battle against Staryu, and Starmie couldn't touch me even once. What I did after this was... less orthodox. I traded Pikachu and a Sandshrew to my Red version and taught them Flash and Cut respectively before trading them back. Instead of going to Vermillion , I decided to go to the Rock Tunnel, at first simply because I wanted to add the next member to my team: Machop. Right then and there, I realized that both my Pokémon were weak against Ground-types, and there were a lot of Hikers on the route leading to the Rock Tunnel, but I persisted. Despite having lost three times, I persisted and emerged victorious. In the meantime, I ended up giving my Nidorino a Moon Stone, and the Dig TM to a Machop I caught and kept as a permanent member of my team. I headed to Celadon, got the HM02... and then just decided to keep playing until I got my entire team in Yellow as well, which was not shaping up to be an easy task, as the Flying Pokémon I wanted on my team was Aerodactyl, which meant I had to go to Cinnabar Island. But, whatever, I persisted. I went to the Rocket Hideout, wiping most of the guys with Machop using Dig, and Machop ended up evolving. As soon as it did, I traded it back and forth to make it evolve again. I then went to meet Giovanni for the first time, and between Tunnel and Low Kick, Machamp had no problem with Giovanni at all. I bought a drink for the guard and unlocked Saffron. Before going to Lavender Town, I decided to at least be chronologically consistent with meeting Blue and, before going to the Pokémon Tower, went to the SS Anne (battling trainers on the route between Saffron and Vermilion) simply to meet and battle him. Immediately after this, I went back to the Pokémon Tower and met him there again. And after that I realized, once more, that I might be a little underleveled for this place: the Ghost Pokémon dominated over me with Night Shade. But I kept pressing on, and eventually found Mr Fuji, who gave me the Pokéflute. I went south, captured the first Snorlax, and received the Super Rod, which was instrumental to get the Water Pokémon I had in mind. Immediately after this, I captured the other Snorlax and, while avoiding absolutely everyone on the Cycling Road, fished out and caught the fourth member of my team: a Shellder. Immediately upon arriving to Fuschia, I went to the Safari Zone and, while looking for the Surf HM and Baoba's dentures, I caught the fifth member of my team: Exeggcute. To make my team complete, I needed to be able to use Surf. But for that, I needed to battle Koga. As my third Gym Leader! And, predictably enough, between being absolutely underleveled and my two most powerful Pokémon (Nidoking and Machamp) being weak to Psychic-type moves that Koga's minions absolutely love to use (and, by the way: it is supposed to be a POISON-type Gym, guys!!!) , I got my rear end handed to me more times than necessary. But, being stubborn, I persisted. With a team varying between levels 20 and 35, Koga's level 40-50 Pokémon were a pain! I used Pikachu's Double Team a lot during my battle against the three Venonats, but the last one ended up knocking it out. I lucked out against the level 50 Venomoth: my low-levelled Shellder managed to use Supersonic on it, and got knocked out immediately after; and then Machamp finished the bug off with two or three uses of Strength while Venomoth battled with its own confusion. And that's how I got the Soul Badge as my third badge... yeah, I've said before, this is one unorthodox playthrough. Without Lt Surge's badge, I couldn't use Fly, so I travelled back to Pewter City through the Cycling Road (again, while avoiding everybody) and Diglett's Cave. I got the Old Amber, pulled the Sandshrew with Cut from the PC, went south while bypassing the Viridian Forest (I got the HM05 while I was at it), and then went straight to Cinnabar Island to revive Aerodactyl. I then headed back north to Pewter City (going through Viridian Forest this time, as Sandshrew went back to the box the moment I got Aerodactyl) and crossed Diglett's Cave. This is when I decided to get the playthrough back on track and train my new recruits while I was at it. The SS Anne was my next destination. But then, I remembered why I started this playthrough in the first place: I needed Fly for my Charizard on Pokémon Red. So I traded Charizard here and taught it Fly before trading it back. So, my Yellow team, as of now, is:
Yellow playthrough stops here. Red playthrough resumes here. And now I was back to Red. With Charizard knowing Fly, Mew went back to the PC, and a previously caught (and ignored) Drowzee replaced it and learned Flash. I wiped out everyone on the route between Lavender and Saffron, and then went for Erika's Gym. Drowzee was still too weak, so I ended up switching it after the first turn every time I called it, and by the time I got to Erika herself, most of my team were either poisoned or paralyzed because of that. Nevertheless, I prevailed thanks to Charizard and Fly. After this, I caught the other Snorlax (the one south of Lavender) and ended up wiping out everyone on the routes between Lavender, Fuschia and Celadon. As a result, Seel and Drowzee both evolved. I'm now entering the Sylph Co building. I'm not going to just go to the end, I fully intend on beating each and every one of the Team Rocket members present there. Team:

More stuff happened in today's playthrough. After going through Rock Tunnel, visited Lavender Town a brief moment before heading to Celadon City. I went to the mansion to get Eevee, which I nicknamed Undyne, and then went to the department store so I can buy a water stone and evolved it into a Vaporeon. I then bought some Fresh Water for the girl so that I can get Ice Beam, but I gave water to her twice because my items my full lol (I went to sell some TMs I don't need).
Next I went against Erika's gym. The battles weren't that hard, but the annoying parts were how my Charmelon kept getting poisoned and paralyzed. Even worse when some of them would use Wrap/Bind. @[email protected] Nonetheless, I was able to get my fourth badge in the end. My next objective is going to Rocket's Hideout in the game corner. WELCOME TO GIOVANNI'S WILD RIDE, I WANT TO GET OFF. (coughs) Anyways, there were times where I had to go back and forth going to the game corner and Pokemon Center because my bag keeps getting filled up, bleh. Eventually I was able to get to him and finished him off easily. Last thing I did today was going to the Pokemon Tower. Met Blue/Gary there, able to take care of him easily. Like in the Rocket Hideout, my bag keeps getting filled up, so because I don't want to go back to the Pokemon Center I ended up letting Hamilton use the Rare Candies and HP Ups, lol. Got to see the mama Marowak, then after that dealt with the TR Trio and got the Pokeflute. Haven't dealt with Snorlax, but will do that on my next playthrough. I think what I'll do next is go Fushia Gym and Safari Zone so that I can get Surf for Undyne. She needs one good Water Move. Will hold off Saffron City stuff later. Pikachu (Hamilton) - Lv 38 -Thundershock -Thunderbolt -Slam -Thunder Wave Nidoking (Dash) - Lv 31 -Poison Sting -Mega Punch -Horn Attack -Double Kick Fearow (Bell) - Lv 32 -Peck -Fly -Mirror Move -Fury Attack Charizard (Zuko) - Lv 36 -Slash -Dig -Ember -Cut Hypno (Mable)- Lv 35 -Poison Gas -Flash -Headbutt -Confusion Vaporeon (Undyne)- Lv 30 -Bite -Ice Beam -Sand Attack -Quick Attack |
Just ended up finishing the game at 11:32 in-game time. Final team is as follows:
Zapdos L53 Blastoise L50 Nidoking L50 Arcanine L48 Mew L100 (didn't use it at all. Caught it at level 1 so it jumped to level 100 instantly) Weezing L40 |
Finally allowed to play this again after finishing a few assignments.
I'm still managing to take a lot of time with this game, I don't think I've ever completed something so patiently. Time: 14:32 Badges: 4 Pokedex: 46 Since the last time I updated I have beaten Erika, Giovanni x2, Gary x2 and about a million rocket grunts. Team as of now - Dugtrio Lv.41, Butterfree Lv.38, Raichu Lv.36, Venusaur Lv.33, Pidgeotto Lv.31, Primeape Lv.28. It has started to become a big struggle to keep Primeape on the team, it took a while to get him to evolve. I'm considering dropping him even though I wanted to complete it with my favourites, but I'll check to see if he learn any good moves soon first. As before, I'm still planning to replace Dugtrio with one of my favourites which I'm now thinking of it being Lapras instead of my originally planned Dragonite. Both would be pretty time consuming to train, but at least Lapras knows surf. I did consider Jynx for a very quick period before I realised obviously it has to be nicknamed on this due to in-game trades. Potential departures - Dugtrio, Primeape. Potential replacements - Lapras, Dratini (Dragonite), Seadra (I have one in the daycare so there's a chance it might be decently levelled and it can learn surf), Rhydon, Growlithe (Arcanine), Haunter (Gengar). I just realised Dragonite can surf which surprised me so I guess that wipes out most reasoning for not picking Dragonite. Time to get back to the main point of the journey and collect some gym badges. |
Badges: 4
Playtime: 52:04 Pokedex: 44
And that's pretty much the gist of it. |
Still playing Red... so now I battled all trainers on all mainland routes, and I'm ready to go to the sea. There's only one loose end remaining, one last encounter with Team Rocket... the Sylph Co.
So, there I went. And I was thorough: I fought every single Team Rocket member I could get to before obtaining the Card Key, got the Card Key, and then started from the bottom again, this time opening all doors and fighting everyone. By the time I got to Giovanni, my Pokémon were 5 levels behind his, but I had type superiority on my side, so down he went, and I got the Master Ball. Nothing special to say about Sabrina and her gym, if not the fact that I thought Parasect would be of more use that it ended up being. Leech Life, the move that suddenly stopped sucking after Parasect had evolved now started sucking again. So I ended up besting Sabrina with Electabuzz and Dewgong. The Fighting Dojo was obliterated using Hypno and, mostly, Charizard with Fly. By this point, Charizard was, once again, lagging behind all other members of my team, so it was a way to get it up to speed. Still hungry for blood, I went to Fuschia and rode my Dewgong to Seafoam Islands, once again fighting each and every trainer I could find, and swimming in zigzags to make sure I missed nobody. I got through the Seafoam Islands in a couple of minutes, only stopping to catch Artikuno. After arriving to Cinnabar Island, I immediately revived Kabuto and Aerodactyl (and boxed them), and then explored the Pokémon Mansion, catching as many Pokémon as I could (including Weezing, so that's cool) . After that, I suddenly changed my mind about battling Blaine for the time being and flew to Cerulean. Going east, I entered the Power Plant and caught several Pokémon, including Zapdos. And now, Blaine. I didn't use the machines to skip battles, but instead powered through using Golem, Dewgong, and, due to his resistance to fire, Charizard. Blaine went down in a couple of Surf moves by my Dewgong. I went back to Viridian city the hard way: surfing north (and wiping out everyone, once again) . Giovanni went down without any troubles (except for the part where he tried to give me the TM, once again, my bag was full) . So I went west, battled Blue, crossed the Victory Road (and captured Moltres while I was there) and ultimately found myself at Pokémon league. Here I was, at Plateau Indigo. I sold all my nuggets, bought a ton of Hyper Potions (I had to return to Cinnabar Island for those :( ) , Revives and Full Heals. Going in, I was afraid of being at a disadvantage, since my Pokémon were all around level 45, and Charizard and Dewgong weren't of a high enough level to know the Fire-type move and the Ice-type move I usually rely on (Flamethrower and Ice Beam). I decided, just in case, to teach them less accurate moves (Fire Blast and Blizzard) instead, since I already had the TMs. Anyway, despite my apprehensions, I went in and... won! The moves I thought would not work actually did, and did so well. Dewgong in particular CRUSHED Lance's dragons with Blizzard, it helped that Dragonite kept spamming Agility for no reason instead of, you know, attacking. So I was back home, and had one more thing left to do: go to Cerulean Cave and catch Mewtwo. But this time, I decided to make it interesting: I decided to not use my Master Ball. After a few run-ins with Electrodes that kept exploding, I thought the Master Ball would be better spent on them. Anyway, Mewtwo. My Hypno went in first, and used Flash several times. After Mewtwo KOing it with Swift, I realized that Mewtwo knowing Swift would be a problem :) . But, nevertheless, I revived Hypno and kept using Flash until it no longer had effect. And then I switched to Dewgong and started spamming Blizzard. When the PPs ran out, I used Elixers and Ethers; when Mewtwo used Swift three times (or two, and landed a critical hit) I just switched to a more resistant Golem, revived and full healed Dewgong and put it back on. After a few minutes, it finally happened: Mewtwo was frozen solid! Then I just started attacking it with Golem's Strength, and then switched to Dewgong to lower its HPs some more with Headbutt. It was all smooth sailing, until Dewgong landed a critical hit... but, thankfully, the hit left just one pixel on Mewtwo's health bar. I caught it with an Ultra Ball! So, there it is. I finished Red, and the only thing remaining now is completing the Pokédex, but I can't do it without completing the other two versions first. I think I'll share my progress with the Yellow version, and play that somewhat conservatively (despite my earlier shenannigans, see my previous post) , but Blue... I think I'll just have fun, trade the Pokémon from my team in Blue to a completed game, teach them the more destructive moves, grossly level them up etc etc, before sending them back. I'll break that game :D . Anyway, the game is finished. Hall of Fame:

Did quite a bit today, including...
Clearing out the route West of Lavender Town, and catching a Vulpix on that route. Hitting up Celadon City, stealing the Eevee, evolving it into a Jolteon, buying a Lemonade and giving it to the guard so that opened up Saffron City and all connecting routes. Thought momentarily about buying enough coins for a Dratini from the Game Corner, until I calculated the cost. Went all the way back to Pallet Town through Diglett Cave and started going back through towns/cities/routes and collecting any items I may have missed. Collected the Old Amber for eventual revival/6th team member addition when I finally get to Cinnabar Island. Spent the rest of the day grinding next to Celadon City in preparation for taking on Erika and then the Team Rocket Hideout. Still not done grinding, so it will take a while. No team update this time. |
Not too much happened in today's playthrough. I first went around several routes and Cyclying Road to battle several trainers and then trained Zuko and Mable a bit before going against Koga. I waited until Zuko learned flamethrower, which made Koga's battle fairly easily. I then went to the Safari Zone so that I can get Surf for Undyne.
I want to try training my Pokemon around the level 40 to 45 range before I deal with Sliph Co and Sabrina's Gym. Can't remember how I defeated her on Yellow all those years ago, haha. Pikachu (Hamilton) - Lv 38 -Thundershock -Thunderbolt -Slam -Thunder Wave Nidoking (Dash) - Lv 35 -Poison Sting -Mega Punch -Horn Attack -Double Kick Fearow (Bell) - Lv 37 -Peck -Fly -Drill Peck -Fury Attack Charizard (Zuko) - Lv 46 -Slash -Dig -Flamethrower -Cut Hypno (Mable)- Lv 42 -Poison Gas -Flash -Psychic -Confusion Vaporeon (Undyne)- Lv 38 -Bite -Ice Beam -Surf -Aurora Beam |
Beat Brock and made my way to Mt. Moon to pick up Clefairy. Although, I had to do Mt. Moon over again because I found out there's actually two Moon Stones there and I need two Moon Stones so that was pretty sweet. Also, I forgot to pick up Mega Punch, which Clefairy + Mega Punch is an awesome combo. Clefairy was a lot easier to find than Nidoran let me tell you that.
Cerulean City! Mew Glitch! That was interesting took me awhile to catch an Abra since Sing rarely works. -______-; Beat Ollie, my rival, piece of cake. Went to Bill, fought all the trainers along the way. Still deciding who I want on my team but right now I'm satisfied so I don't know if I'll add more teammates or not. Decided not to evolve Horus because he turns ground and we're facing a water gym... About to face Misty so cheers to that. http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/5/5b/Spr_1b_033.png Horus Lv. 22 - Leer - Tackle - Horn Attack - Poison Sting http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/d/d3/Spr_1b_008.png Hathor Lv. 23 - Tackle - Tail Whip - Bubble - Water Gun http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/0/08/Spr_1b_035.png Bastet Lv. 24 - Pound - Minimize - Sing - Mega Punch |
My events of yesterday involved me removing Team Rocket from Silph Co. After I got the Card Key on 5F, I worked my way through going floor by floor. Course I did remember about the healing area being on 9F. I of course battled Revan again and got Lapras on 7F. Garland, Kefka, Gabranth, and Cid all gained levels while I was going though. After I defated Giovanni again, I got the Master Ball.
After I finished up my business there, there was other things I had to take care of Saffron. One thing I did was give the Poke Doll, that I bought in Celadon, to Copycat. My next objective is to go and battle Sabrina for my sixth badge. I have seen 105 Pokemon and owned 35. Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Blastoise) Lv. 52 Moves: Ice Beam, Earthquake, Surf, Bite Kefka (Dugtrio) Lv. 49 Moves: Rock Slide, Body Slam, Earthquake, Slash Gabranth (Hitmonlee) Lv. 33 Moves: Double Kick, Meditate, Strength, Rolling Kick Cid (Snorlax) Lv. 32 Moves: Headbutt, Toxic, Selfdestruct, Skull Bash Zemus (to be caught) Exdeath (to be caught) |
Pokemon Mansion surprisingly wasn't as tedious as I thought. After a while of wandering around and killing wilds along the way, I finally found the Secret Key. Before going to Blaine's Gym, however, I wanted to grind my other Pokemon first. Charles finally learned Flamethrower! So long, Ember! Your low Base Power will not be missed! I also gave Isabella the Blizzard TM (after cloning it with Missingno., of course) so she can hit harder. However, I didn't teach it to Chelsea, since she hits hard enough, and I prefer Ice Beam's extra PP in her case.
Speaking of Chelsea, she may as well have worn janitor's clothing, because she mopped the floor with the Gym! In fact, discounting Quick Attacks from trainers' Vulpix and Ninetales, she didn't even get touched! Volcano Badge obtained very easily! Not at all surprising, since you need Surf (aka the best counter to Blaine) to even reach Cinnabar Island! I decided to put the Fire Blast TM in the PC and not teach it to Charles. The firepower (pun intended) is tempting, but Charles's moveset is already full. I'm still grinding everyone else, so I'll leave the Power Plant, Zapdos, and Viridian Gym for next time. Current team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 44) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 44) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 44) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 46) Rafflesia the Vileplume (Lv. 44) Charles the Charizard (Lv. 46) |
Today's playthrough I went through Sliph Co, aka GIOVANNI'S WILD RIDE PT. 2, WARP TELEPORTERS EDITION. I first went through all ten/eleven floors to battle against the Team Rocket grunts and Scientists, switching off between Undyne and Dash. I then went through the warps so I can find Blue...which took a while for me because I first didn't realize the card key was in one particular floor until much later and I had to check a walkthrough that you go through one of 3rd floor's warps in order to reach your rival, haha. Nonetheless, I got both Blue and then Giovanni taken care of.
Besides that, before I left Fushia City I gave the warden his golden teeth and got Strength. I also did some hardcore training for Pikachu by battling against all the swimmers in the water routes. I'm thinking of going against the Fighting Dojo and Sabrina next time. Pikachu (Hamilton) - Lv 46 -Thundershock -Thunderbolt -Thunder -Thunder Wave Nidoking (Dash) - Lv 44 -Strength -Mega Punch -Horn Attack -Earthquake Fearow (Bell) - Lv 42 -Peck -Fly -Drill Peck -Fury Attack Charizard (Zuko) - Lv 46 -Slash -Dig -Flamethrower -Cut Hypno (Mable)- Lv 42 -Poison Gas -Flash -Psychic -Confusion Vaporeon (Undyne)- Lv 45 -Bite -Ice Beam -Surf -Aurora Beam |
My events of yesterday started with me taking on Sabrina at the Saffron City Gym. The battle was interesting, despite the fact that Garland got hit with paralysis. After I defeated her, I flew back to Pallet Town. While I was there, I finally picked up the Town Map, but I did not need it. I then headed south to Cinnabar Island.
When I reached Cinnabar Island, I got the Helix Fossil and the Old Amber revived. One of the two Pokemon became the fifth member of my team. I then flew back to Viridian City to activate a certain glitch. When I did the glitch, I cloned the following items: the Master Ball, Moon Stone, Nugget, and Rare Candy. After doing all the cloning, I then headed to the Power Plant. While I was at the Power Plant, I caught more Pokemon, one of being Zapdos. I then flew to Fuchsia, where I headed south and west to reach the Seafoam Islands. While I was at Seafoam Islands, I caught more Pokemon, one of them being Articuno. I then headed back to Cinnabar Island. When I got back to Cinnabar Island, I headed to the Pokemon Mansion. While I was there, one of the Pokemon I caught was the final member of my team. After making my way through there, it was time to head to the gym and battle Blaine. The battle against Blaine was easy. I then flew back to Viridian for my final gym battle. When it came to my gym battle against Giovanni, I used all but one of my team against him. My next objective is to head to Victory Road and Indigo Plateau. Course I still have not visited Routes 12-15 yet, so maybe I will deal with those routes first. I have seen 123 Pokemon and own 57. (note: The current levels of my team members are from using a lot of Rare Candy) Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Blastoise) Lv. 76 Moves: Ice Beam, Earthquake, Surf, Bite Kefka (Dugtrio) Lv. 76 Moves: Rock Slide, Body Slam, Earthquake, Slash Gabranth (Hitmonlee) Lv. 76 Moves: Hi Jump Kick, Metronome, Strength, Mega Kick Cid (Snorlax) Lv. 76 Moves: Body Slam, Toxic, Hyper Beam, Solarbeam Zemus (Aerodactyl) Lv. 76 Moves: Hyper Beam, Bite, Fly, Take Down Exdeath (Vulpix -> Ninetales) Lv. 76 Moves: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Fire Spin, Confuse Ray |
So I went against the Fighting Dojo and Sabrina's gym. The Fighting Dojo I was able to go through very easily with Mable. As for Sabrina, I was actually surprised Bell was able to finish off her lv 50 Alakazam with Drill Peck in one hit, lol.
I then decided to go through the Pokemon Manison to get the Secret Key. I wanted to catch some Pokemon, but then when I wanted to use an Ultra Ball I got the message letting me know one of my boxes is full, lol. I didn't fell like going back to the Pokemon Center so I went through the Pokemon Manison. Not much problem saved for Raticate's Hyper Fang occassionally. I'll go to Blaine's gym next time. I also just noticed everyone but Mable are all now lv 46, haha. Pikachu (Hamilton) - Lv 46 -Thundershock -Thunderbolt -Thunder -Thunder Wave Nidoking (Dash) - Lv 46 -Strenght -Mega Punch -Horn Attack -Earthquake Fearow (Bell) - Lv 46 -Peck -Fly -Drill Peck -Fury Attack Charizard (Zuko) - Lv 46 -Slash -Dig -Flamethrower -Cut Hypno (Mable)- Lv 44 -Poison Gas -Flash -Psychic -Confusion Vaporeon (Undyne)- Lv 46 -Bite -Ice Beam -Surf -Aurora Beam |
After taking a break from the game after defeating the elite 4 (or so I thought), I switched the game on so that I could attempt the mew glitch and found myself stood in front of Lance with Gary still to defeat, I corrected my mistake by defeating him again

Now that I finished grinding, it was time to hit the Power Plant! After catching and boxing new Pokemon for Pokedex entries, as well as picking up every item that wasn't a Voltorb or Electrode, I finally made my way to Zapdos. It took a few more Balls than Articuno, but Zapdos was caught! Then I reset the game so I could use a cloned Master Ball to catch it again. Straight to the box you go! Have fun with Articuno and Mew!
Now, it was time to head to Viridian City Gym. One thing I found hilarious was that the Gym guy had no idea who the Gym Leader was, yet Giovanni's name is on the statues! I decided to solo the gym with Charles, since he beat a Gym as a Charmander and a Charmeleon, but not yet as a Charizard. The trainers' Pokemon were all 2HKOed or OHKOed, and Charles got three levels from all the EXP. Now for the final showdown with Giovanni! His first four Pokemon all went down easily enough, but Rhydon made me worry a little, since it had a higher level than Charles and knew Horn Drill. Worse, Dig just barely failed to 2HKO! After Dig brought Rhydon to just a sliver of HP, the Horn Drill came.... ...But it missed! Charles had no plans on fainting today! After one Flamethrower to remove that final sliver of HP, Rhydon finally went down, and the Earth Badge (and the Fissure TM I doubt I'll ever use) is ours! Eight badges! Now it's off to Indigo Plateau, as soon as I'm done grinding the rest of my team, beat down Blue for the second to last time, and go through Victory Road! All of this and more next time on Dragon Ba*shot* Current team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 48) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 48) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 48) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 48) Rafflesia the Vileplume (Lv. 48) Charles the Charizard (Lv. 50) |
So, Yellow version. The playthrough continued in a rather mundane way: I went to SS Anne, destroyed Lt Surge with Machamp with Dig. With the Saffron gates opened, I went directly to Celadon and destroyed Erika using Aerodactyl and Exeggutor...
Oh, yes, instead of waiting for Shellder and Exeggcute to learn good moves before evolving them, I ended up teaching them Ice Beam and Psychic with TMs and evolved them. Good stats and all. Anyway, after this, I started battling every single trainer on the map... and then just went and battled everyone in the sea. I even caught Articuno in Seafoam Islands... with two thirds of my team being weak to Ice, and one being really bad stat-wise (Pikachu, no surprise) , I had to soft reset a dozen of times... Anyway, atfer Seafoam Islands, I just kept going left and ended up completing the Pokémon Mansion. After this, I just decided to finish all quests and then get the remaining three badges by flying from Gym to Gym to Gym with no quests in between. So to Sylph Co I went and, just like in Red, I went from floor to floor and defeated every single Team Rocket member. Finished off Jessie and James, foiled Giovanni's plan, got the Master Ball. After that I went to the former Gym and got myself a Hitmonchan, and then immediately flew to Lavender Town, bought repels and went north, to the Power Plant. Zapdos was much easier to catch than Articuno, I could send out Exeggutor to send it to sleep without much worries. Now that I've done pretty much everything I wanted to do, I did Saffron Gym, Cinnabar Gym and Viridian Gym uninterrupted, in a row, with only breaks to heal my team. Nothing special to say about the Victory Road and the Pokémon League... well, except this:
Once again, I caught Mewtwo without a Master Ball. Cloyster managed to freeze it solid with Ice Beam, and after having whittled down its HPs bit by bit, it only took two Ultra Balls. So, there, Yellow: done, on to Blue. Bye bye, yellow rat, you won't be missed. Hall of Fame:

Before going against Blaine, I went to Celadon City so I can get the Rock Slide TM from the thirsty girl and teach it to Dash. I originally was going to use Undyne for Blaine's gym, but I decided to save her for Giovanni's gym. With Dash's moves being Rock Slide and Earthquake, Blaine's gym was easy.
Next I wanted to get Zapdos and Articuno before going to the last gym. I let Charizard do some training in the Power Plant and Hamilton in Seaform Islands. When trying to catch Zapdos it took me a few resets as I kept accidentally killing it. Articuno, meanwhile, I didn't need to do a reset but I had to use several Ultra Balls to catch it. Oh, one funny incident in the Power Plant. My Charizard was in low health when it was going against an Electrode. I let it used Dig, thinking I'll be able make it faint first. Big Mistake. It outspeed Zuko and used Self-Destruct, and both Pokemon faint haha. Pretty much Giovanni, Victory Road, and Elite 4 are the only things left to do. Close to the end! Pikachu (Hamilton) - Lv 49 -Thundershock -Thunderbolt -Thunder -Thunder Wave Nidoking (Dash) - Lv 50 -Strength -Mega Punch -Rock Slide -Earthquake Fearow (Bell) - Lv 46 -Peck -Fly -Drill Peck -Fury Attack Charizard (Zuko) - Lv 49 -Slash -Dig -Flamethrower -Cut Hypno (Mable)- Lv 44 -Poison Gas -Flash -Psychic -Confusion Vaporeon (Undyne)- Lv 46 -Bite -Ice Beam -Surf -Aurora Beam |
Just arrived at Cerulean City and working on the Nugget bridge 5 after easily defeating my rival. Didnt grab the bulbasaur yet but will do after the 5. Very glad Mt Moon is over, I REALLY hate caves in pokemon games.

Blue was easy, as expected. I let each of my Pokemon take out one of each of Blue's Pokemon. I'll probably repeat this match-up for the final battle. Anyway, smell ya later, Blue! I walked past the guards in Route 23 while listening to the awesome music that plays there. At last, we have reached Victory Road!
Maybe it's because I'm now used to Victory Roads of later games, but this was so disappointingly easy. All the trainers were pushovers, all of the wild Pokemon gave out too little EXP, and besides the Moltres battle (I caught it, of course. Yay, full Bird Trio set complete!), nothing too interesting happened. After leaving Victory Road, I'm now at Indigo Plateau! Once there, I've decided to use Rare Candies on my team to raise their levels to match that of Lorelei's Pokemon. After beating each member of the Elite 4, I'll use Rare Candies to be on par with the next member, so that I'm not underleveled (or overleveled) for anyone. I'll take them on later today, so see you all next time! Current team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 56) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 56) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 56) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 57) (I accidentally used an extra Rare Candy on her. Whoops!) So, I decided to not update yesterday and wait until I get through the rest of the game. Let's do this.
I went to the last gym with Undyne dominating Giovanni and the other trainers. Luckily Giovanni's wild ride isn't confusing to figure out, haha. Shortly after, bumped onto Blue and defeated him with not much trouble. Next I went through Victory Road, got Moltres (had to chuck several pokeballs, otherwise everything went fine) and trained my Pokemon a few levels first before going against the Elite 4. I gave Hamilton some Rare Candies since I saved several of them and he could use the extra boost. Lorlei and Bruno I was abe to get through easily while Agatha I had a hard time with her Gengar even though I have Mable. Confuse Ray and Dream Eater, omg why. ;_; I was able to defeat her, though, and then didn't have a hard time with Lance thanks to Undyne. There's then Blue. So I wasn't sure which Pokemon he would sent out first, so I went with Dash while he choose Sandslash. Of course, Sandslash was able to take down Dash one hit with Earthquake, woops. The only other time one of my Pokemon fainted was when I had Zuko against Magneton so I can use Dig, but that plan kinda backfired. Otherwise, got through the rest of his Pokemon fine and became Champion, woo. One last thing before I got done with pretty much everything- Mewtwo. Took a bit of walking around the Sea Cavern until I was able to reach him. I mostly used Zuko's Flamethrower to chip Mewtwo's HP away, but he often uses Recover, lol. Once I got Mewtwo's HP very low, I used my Ultra Ball and caught him with one try. And I think that's it! This has been a blast reliving this game again after several years. Looking forward to transferring my Pokemon to Sun/Moon. Lorelei's Pokemon were bulkier than expected, but overall was no problem. Nikola zapped Dewgong into oblivion, then I switched out to Raff to deal with Cloyster and Slowbro. Despite the type disadvantage, Raff took both down with Petal Dance (Slowbro survived, but didn't attack Raff, the idiot) like a boss. Charles Slashed Jynx in one shot, and it was back to Nikola to deal with Lapras. When Thunderbolt failed to OHKO and Lapras retaliated with Blizzard, I got worried for a nanosecond. Then I remembered that Nikola would not fall so easily, and sure enough, he tanked Blizzard with plenty of HP to spare and brought it down with another Thunderbolt. Lorelei defeated!
Bruno was overall very easy. Isabella missed her first Blizzard against his first Onix, but took very little damage in return. Take two, and Onix is sent back to the Ice Age with Blizzard hitting this time (and a crit to boot, damn!). Both Hitmons fell to a single Flamethrower, courtesy of Charles. Onix #2 was demolished by Chelsea's Surf. Finally, the Machamp! Raff put it to sleep with a Sleep Powder, then got the 2HKO with Petal Dance! Bruno defeated! Agatha was...interesting, to say the least. I had Eric set up an Amnesia on her first Gengar after its Hypnosis missed, and then...it switched out? The AI can do that? Anyway, Golbat removed the Amnesia boost with Haze while taking little damage from unboosted Surf, then hit Eric with Confuse Ray. Thankfully, Eric didn't hit himself, and instead hit the Golbat with a Body Slam. Annoying bat down. The first Gengar came back, and after failing to hit with Dream Eater (silly AI), Eric got his Amnesia boosts. One weak Night Shade later, and Eric drowned the Ghost with Surf. I had Isabella deal with Agatha's Haunter and Arbok. Both died to an Earthquake. Finally, it was Eric vs the final Gengar. As Eric used Amnesia, Gengar used Toxic to try and wear him down. Fool, Eric is like the King of Stall! Thus, the stall war began, as Gengar tried to cripple Eric with Confuse Ray while Eric boosted his Special to max and Rested off the damage (I kept the Poke Flute on me so Gengar couldn't use Dream Eater). Finally, Gengar was obliterated by Eric's +6 Surf! Agatha defeated! Now to slay some dragons (and some not-dragons, too)! Nikola fried Gyarados to a crisp. Isabella turned Dragonair #1 into an ice sculpture. Dragonair #2 actually survived Charles's Slash and fired a Hyper Beam at him. I didn't do much damage, and Charles roasted what was left of Dragonair's HP with a Flamethrower. I decided Chelsea would be the one to finish off Lance's remaining team. Aerodactyl missed a Supersonic, then got blasted by Chelsea's Hydro Pump. At last came Lance's final Pokemon, his fearsome Dragonite! With it's tremendous power and awesome bulk, surely it would pose a great...oh wait, Ice Beam to the face! Lance defeated! (As I said in my last post, I kept feeding my Pokemon Rare Candies in between battles so they would be on par with the next trainer.) After mashing A to skip whatever Blue had to say, it was time for the final battle! Nikola struck down his Pidgeot with a Thunderbolt so great, it would make even Thor and Zeus jealous! After that, it was a battle of brawn vs brains, as Eric faced off against Alakazam! Poor Akakazam had to try in vain to protect itself with Reflect as Eric crushed it with his Body Slam. I said in vain, because Eric decided to break through that pitiful Reflect with a Critical Hit! Ouch! Next came Rhydon, as I sent out Isabella to counter it. Rhydon should have brought a very thick coat, because Isabella's crit Blizzard was beyond overkill to it! Following that, it was a battle of dogs (cats? beasts?) as Arcanine ferociously stared at Chelsea. Unfortunately for Arcanine, its bark absolutely pales in comparison to Chelsea's bite (not the move Bite, of course)! Poor puppy probably wished it had invested in swimming lessons after the Surf that had ended it. For the penultimate round, it was the fierce fire-breathing not-Dragon Charles, versus...a tree with eggs? Yeah, that round didn't last very long. As Blue withdrew the charred remains of his Exeggutor, he sent out his starter Blastoise, hoping to turn this match around. Time for a certain flower to devour her newest victim! First, Raff put it to sleep. Then, she begins her dance of death. Unfortunately, Blastoise wakes up in the middle of Raff's dance and prepares a mighty Blizzard to end this destructive flower. Unfortunately for Blastoise, Raff carves through its puny shell before it could even move, and utterly destroys the poor tortoise! At last, Blue was defeated! After the battle, Oak shows up and says something (I was too busy mashing A). After all the textboxes, we were finally ready to induct these six badasses to the Hall of Fame! We are the Champions, my friends! And we'll keep on fighting to the end! We are the Champions, we are the Champions! No time for losers, 'cause we are the Champions...of the Wooooooorld! Okay, I'll stop now. I decided to stop here. I'll take on Mewtwo and complete the Pokedex at my own leisure. This was a fun playthrough, as well as a nice trip down memory lane. Overall, despite the glitches, early installment weirdness, and horrible sprites, I had fun with this game. Now where's Silver on VC? To anyone who bothered reading my crappy posts and following my adventure, thank you. See you all another time! Final team: Nikola the Raichu (Lv. 65) Isabella the Nidoqueen (Lv. 65) Eric the Snorlax (Lv. 65) Chelsea the Vaporeon (Lv. 65) Rafflesia the Vileplume (Lv. 65) Charles the Charizard (Lv. 65) |
Up to 131 in my pokedex. Now need the ones I cant get in blue and the alternative choices.

Loaded up the game as Ash, taking Ranvier the Pikachu under his wing just in time to get in the way of Gary and that Eevee which Ash totally didn't want at all. Making his way through the Kanto region he picked up a few good companions to tell spooky stories with in Viridian Forest with Metro the Nidoking, Future the Charmeleon, Lauryn the Butterfree and Mew the Mew. He had even beaten 2 gym leaders so far! He had heard the horror stories about Misty, the failed runs and the continuous stream of tears from defeated trainers that filled up her pool. Ash had already threatened to release Lauryn if she missed the Sleep Powder on Starmie but Starmie thought it was a Metapod for the whole match. Everyone wins. With 2 badges in hand and a near-full team of lv20somethings, Ash set his sights onto his 3rd badge at Fuschia City...wait?

Took me a few days to grind, but I finally got everyone to level 31 and took on Erika, Route 12 until the Snorlax, and then came back to Celadon City and cleared out the Team Rocket hideout.
Current Team: Wartortle (Level 33) Nidoqueen (Level 32) Parasect (Level 33) Vulpix (Level 33) Jolteon (Level 32) |
Now at the S.S. Anne and slowly working my way through the rooms levelling up, took on Blue by mistake but finished him off despite having only 3 pokemon not fainted.
Pikachu (Faratay) lvl 20 Charmeleon (Silanah) lvl 16 Ivysaur (Someshta) lvl 20 Magikarp (Temeraire) lvl 18 Geodude (Rocklord) lvl 19 Pidgeotto lvl 20 |
Just about to enter Rock tunnel, I hate caves! Been training up my new squirtle and an abra preparing for ghosts in Lavendar town.
Pikachu (Faratay) lvl 21 Charmeleon (Silanah) lvl 21 Ivysaur (Someshta) lvl 22 Wartortle (Chelydra) lvl 20 Geodude (Rocklord) lvl 23 Kadabra (Norrell) lvl 20 |
Most of the way through Rock Tunnel (I hope). I really hate caves.
Pikachu (Faratay) lvl 22 Charmeleon (Silanah) lvl 21 Ivysaur (Someshta) lvl 23 Wartortle (Chelydra) lvl 25 Geodude (Rocklord) lvl 23 Kadabra (Norrell) lvl 20 |
Finished the Rock Tunnel explored Lavendar (what there was to explore) and made my way to Celadon city. Next up hit the shops get an Eevee then do the Gym.
Pikachu (Faratay) lvl 24 Charmeleon (Silanah) lvl 24 Ivysaur (Someshta) lvl 25 Wartortle (Chelydra) lvl 27 Geodude (Rocklord) lvl 23 Kadabra (Norrell) lvl 23 |
After taking a bit of a hiatus from my playthrough, I went back to it yesterday. My events started with me fighting Revan before going to Route 23 and Victory Road. After going to Route 23, I headed into Victory Road. Course while I was there, I battled all the trainers and got all the items. I also went and caught Moltres, so I now have all three legendary birds. After I made it through Victory Road, I reached the Pokemon League. My next objective is to battle and defeat the Elite Four. I have seen 130 Pokemon and own 61.
Final Fantasy Villains Team Garland (Blastoise) Lv. 79 Moves: Ice Beam, Earthquake, Surf, Bite Kefka (Dugtrio) Lv. 76 Moves: Rock Slide, Body Slam, Earthquake, Slash Gabranth (Hitmonlee) Lv. 76 Moves: Submission, Metronome, Strength, Mega Kick Cid (Snorlax) Lv. 76 Moves: Mega Kick, Toxic, Hyper Beam, Solarbeam Zemus (Aerodactyl) Lv. 76 Moves: Hyper Beam, Bite, Fly, Sky Attack Exdeath (Ninetales) Lv. 76 Moves: Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Fire Spin, Confuse Ray |
After ignoring the game for a few weeks, I finally returned and blasted through the second half of the gym. Collected the last three badges, caught the three legendary birds and beat the E4 with an underlevelled team.
The hall of famers eventually being... By order of how much they actually contributed vs. The Elite Four Duggers (Dugtrio) Lv.48 - Earthquake, Dig, Slash, Sand Attack. Slashy (Kabutops) Lv.45 - Slash (of course), Surf, Absorb, Harden. Articuno Lv.52 - Ice Beam, Blizzard, Fly, Peck. Shocker (Raichu) Lv. 40 - Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Agility, Quick Attack. Furu (Butterfree) Lv.43 - Poisonpowder, Psybeam, Stun Spore, Sleeppowder. Moto Razr (Venusaur) Lv.39 - Cut, Mega Drain, Leech Seed, Solarbeam. The three pokémon I never planned to have in the team eventually contributed the most whilst two of my favourites (Venusaur, Butterfree) literally didn't take a single pokémon out during the E4. At least they made it that far, unlike Primeape and Pidgeotto who lost their use to me earlier on. Glad to have completed it without blacking out especially after a close shave in Victory Road. After that, I thought it was suicide to wander in the E4 at these levels, but it was actually reasonably easy. Perhaps I'll try a nuzlocke or monotype challenge when I play Yellow so I'm motivated to level the team up properly. |
Finished Celadon Gym and getting all the bits from houses and shops, now halfway through Team Rockets hideout.
REALLY wishing Pikachu wasnt so rubbish, love having him follow you round but hes so weak generally its annoying. They should've chosen a better mascot or at least realised how bad he was an improved him early on. Pikachu (Faratay) lvl 25 Charmeleon (Silanah) lvl 29 Ivysaur (Someshta) lvl 25 Wartortle (Chelydra) lvl 28 Geodude (Rocklord) lvl 23 Kadabra (Norrell) lvl 25 |
I did not see this so I will just reply w/ the progress that I have right now.
-Obtained 128 Master Balls, Hyper Potions, and Rare Candies w/ MissingNo (Still there) -My Pokemon's average level went up 2x (Lv.35 > Lv.70, and no, that does not mean that Lv.35 is greater than Lv.70) I just defeated Giovanni (With an overpowered Lv.71 Gyarados) and had the battle with the rival. I strongly overpowered him (again...) because he only had Lv.45s or something. I got through the guards (You can pass through if you have the x BADGE!) And now... I'm stuck on Victory Road and wasted 10 Max Repels to no avail. |
Finished Team rockets hideout and now back off to look at ghosts with the Silph scope.
Pikachu (Faratay) lvl 29 Charmeleon (Silanah) lvl 29 Ivysaur (Someshta) lvl 27 Wartortle (Chelydra) lvl 28 Graveler (Rocklord) lvl 26 Kadabra (Norrell) lvl 27 |
I defeated the Elite Four and my rival, Blue, on Red Version. My team consisted of Charizard, Dugtrio, Gyarados, Jolteon, Dodrio, and Chansey.
Now on to Blue Version with Squirtle. |
Decided to restart Blue because I didn't like the way it was going, plus half of my team were just repeats from a LeafGreen run I did in the middle of last year.
So this time I picked Bulbasaur. Caught a Pidgey on the route above. Beat Brock. Team: Ivysaur (Level 16) Pidgey (Level 14) |
Did the Ghost tower, now in Silph Co 4th or 5th floor clearing it all out. Caught a Snorlax and taught it self destruct for someone for transfer with Sun/Moon. Might have to go on a catching spree soon so I can nab the EXP all, I think im only on 31 pokemon so a way to go yet as ive not really been catching any.
Pikachu (Faratay) lvl 30 Charmeleon (Silanah) lvl 30 Ivysaur (Someshta) lvl 29 Wartortle (Chelydra) lvl 31 Graveler (Rocklord) lvl 31 Kadabra (Norrell) lvl 33 |
I began playing Blue Version today. I started out with Squirtle, then after defeating my rival RED a second time I caught a male Nidoran. Just defeated Brock.
Current Team: Squirtle, Lv. 14 Nidoran (Male), Lv. 10 |
And similar to my first run of Blue, I still don't have many Pokemon after beating Misty. The original two.
Ivysaur (Level 25) Pidgeotto (Level 24) |
