2016 Wishlists
The year's only just started. Upcoming games loom overhead, the mere sight of their shadows cause your wallet to cringe in fear of its impending fate. A storm is coming, and when it's over, none shall be left standing.
With that in mind, what are you looking forward to this year? What are you getting? Feel free to use this thread to list and discuss all the games/consoles/movies that you want that are coming out this year. Or, similarly, include stuff that came out this year that you need to get around to buying. Consider this thread a reference for when you need to plan out purchases or just want to know what's coming. Oh, and definitely discuss. Please discuss. Threads like these tend to be devoid of discussion, but I know how badly some of you are looking forward to Overwatch. Or Persona 5. Or Zero Time Dilemma, the game I know you guys are just too shy to talk about. That's the only excusable reason. SO LIST! DISCUSS! HAVE FUN! |
I was just making a list yesterday...
Crackdown 3 (X1) Halo Wars 2 (X1) Titanfall 2 (X1) Gears Of War 4 (X1) Battlefield 5 (PS4) Dangerous Golf (PS4) Sniper Elite 4 (PS4) Pokemon Sun & Moon (3DS) And maybe, maybe Call Of Duty. Depends on what it is this year. |
Obviously everything pales in comparison to Uchi.
This year is a winner. |
As one of the more openly exaggerated Doom fanMEN around here, I'm already hyped for DOOM 2016 (Doom 4 in layman's). Obviously i'm waiting for the world to explode when the game comes out as well as the numerous arguments between the players and the purists.
Also i forgot to mention, Guilty Gear XrD Revelator, a lovely expansion/sequel to Guilty Gear XrD which adds some of the old school fan favorite such as Jam, Johnny, and Dizzy into the cast |
So far, the only game I know I'll buy is Overwatch. Heck I should just preorder it and get access to the early beta in May. Apart from that, some other titles I'm interested in are...
- Firewatch - Supershot - Krautscape - Mirror's Edge 2 - Pokemon Sun/Moon |
Also regarding 2016, other than the games, I'm also looking forward for more news regarding the plans of the companies such as Microsoft, Wintendo, Sony, and the like. As a business major, I recently got the acquired taste of looking at the things companies are doing and gaming brands have become something interesting to me.
Wintendo has become some sort of interest that I acquired ever since I read some of the things they've done that has in one way or the other, affected the community. THEN MOAR GAMES? - Mirrors Edge Catalyst = I remember Mirror's Edge back in its day being one of the more unique games i played since it didn't usually involve me killing people but instead it was all about dem running skills. Definitely looking forward to the sequel and I'm hoping at least there would be some more neckbreaking. Also, i forgot to mention, other than Doom 4 being my obvious orgasm waiting to explode, there's also - Shadow Warrior 2, the sequel to the 2013 Shadow Warrior. = You wanna wash Wang's wang? (Btw, that's a quote from Lo Wang, the game's protag. Obviously not a dirty euphemism). Also, its said that SW2 is going to feature some Co-op. Also, GRINDING! HELL YES. Missions/levels can now be revisited in order to kill more enemies just in case you be missing some necessary upgrades. Its rare to see a less structured level progression in an FPS game, and 2013 Shadow Warrior definitely stood out to me with the amount of upgrades and skills you can get for Lo Wang. It almost felt like an FPS DMC-esque Hack n Slash and I'm hoping that Shadow Warrior 2 would be more of the same, but with even more things to do. |
Ace Attorney 6 (with the Japanese version releasing in June, I hope the localized version will come out only a few months after), Bravely Second, and Pokemon Sun/Moon. There's also the Steam version of Danganronpa I'll consider buying when Steam does one of its Spring/Summer sales. The Steam version of Final Fantasy IX I want to get too as I've never played it before and I know folks that are fans of Bravely Default say FF IX is their favorite FF game.

I used to have a 2016 wish. I called it... a sequel to AVGN Adventures.. now it came through:
I never expected an AVGN Adventures sequel even though the game was a great side scroller AVGN tribute. Judging everything i've seen in this trailer, I hope that we are getting even more ridiculous but hopefully more playable level designs. I remember AVGN adventures had intentionally awful level designs as a reference to all of the bad games and the common complaints in the AVGN reviews. |
I have an extensive wishlist...and the chances are I'll wind up buying all of the games on it. xD;
Announced for this year: - Nights of Azure – This looks good. Incomplete localisation (i.e. no dub) is annoying, but you take what you can, and KT deserve all my support for bringing it over. It's a shame about the lack of a physical Vita version, but I picked the PS4 version up for ridiculously cheap on preorder, so it's all good. - Destroyer Trillion – Looks…interesting. It’s a JRPG. That’s pretty much all I’m going on by adding this to my list. The whole “one boss” thing reminds me a bit of ZHP. The visual style is appealing as well, it reminds me of Mugen Souls. I hated that game, but I liked the art style. - Stranger of Sword City – It’s a DRPG, and I’ve developed a taste for these since Demon Gaze. Count me in. Bit annoyed about the delay, but all things considered, end of April gives me time to play through other things. - Dishonored 2 – One of the few E3 titles I was excited about. Playable Emily Caldwin, all grown up. This is the stuff dreams are made of. - Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness – Come to me, precious. Arguably my Game of the Year if it's as good as I hope it's going to be. I'm loving the dub voice cast - I swear I heard Crispin Freeman in it! - and it looks absolutely fantastic. - World of Final Fantasy – Looks better than anything else Square Enix are bringing out thus far, honestly. - Final Fantasy XV – Haha, 2016 release. I’ll believe it when I have it in my hands. Despite being put off immensely by this, I suppose I’ll give it a try…it can’t be any worse than FFXIII, right? I’m VERY put off by the all-male cast – I’m very much a fan of strong female protagonists – and the horrible battle system, but I’ll give it a try. If only so I can moan about it. - Dragon Quest VII – Mother will want this, so I’ll get it. Plus I’m trying to get into DQ right now anyway. - Dragon Quest VIII – See above. - Ray Gigant – More DRPG goodness. I just gravitate towards these. I know nothing about this other than its genre, which is fine with me. - Atelier Sophie - I see KT sneaking in a trademark over here. Now I just need a localisation date. I'm interested to see where they're going now. Hoping for a more complete game now that it's multi-format from the offset, too. Little chance of this getting a Plus version. - Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force – METAMORPHOSIZE YOUR HEART, UNLEASH THE HELL INSIIIIDE. I enjoyed the PS3 version. I’m getting the PS4 version. End of story. - MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune vs. Zombies – More Neptunia spinoffs? Sure, why not. - Nioh – I still can’t get over the fact that they called the protagonist William when this is set in feudal Japan, but…looks good. I'm not one of those people who has been watching out for this avidly; it's a new thing for me so I'm not particularly bored of hearing about it yet. - The Legend of Zelda – Come on, Nintendo. This was due out LAST YEAR. You’d better not pull a Twilight Princess with it and delay it for an NX port just so the console has a game when it launches. - Zodiac Arcanon Odyssey – Looks interesting, and I expect they’ll patch it up a bit for the console version. They’d better, anyway. - Tales of Berseria – Even though it’s set in the same world as Zestiria and has a re-used Milla Maxwell for a protagonist – with a Hope Estheim tagalong – I’m getting this. I still have hopes the Tales series can recapture the glory it had with Symphonia. It’s not too far gone yet; it’s not Final Fantasy. - Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs Force – I don’t care what the Japanese reviewers have to say about it, it’s Gundam on Vita. - God Eater 2 Rage Burst – I’m curious to see what all the fuss is about. - God Eater Resurrection – See above. - Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization – I hated Sword Art Online after the first half. I haven’t finished Hollow Fragment yet and probably never will (translation is very sadness) and haven’t even started Lost Song, but I’ll get this. The combat and world are both amazing. It’s just the cast that are bollocks. - Wild Arms 3 – I see you sneaking in a rating, ESRB. It’s coming to PS4 somewhen soon and I am itching to play it again. - Toukiden II – Haven’t even played Age of Demons or Kiwami yet, but screw it, this is going on the list. I love monster hunting games. - NieR Automata – The first NieR? Yeah, one of my all-time favourite games. I have yet to play a PlatinumGames title that I’ve enjoyed (well, Vanquish was alright) so I’m a bit worried about how it’ll turn out, but…it’s NieR. I NEED this. - Moero Crystal – Yeah, I really will import the Asian version. I don’t really care how ridiculous the whole concept is as long as it plays well. - Dark Souls III – This one largely depends on my mood and how much like Dark Souls II it is. I hated DS2. It was generic, easy, and just plain bullshit. I have to be in the right state of mind to play these games as well – I don’t find them as hard as people make them out to be (well, Demon’s Souls yes, Dark Souls no, Dark Souls II definitely not) but still… - Odin Sphere Leifthrasir – Atlus…I hate Atlus. But I did quite enjoy Odin Sphere on the PS2, so I might pick this up for Vita. It depends on my mood; Dragon’s Crown really put me off these side-scrolling action games. - Fire Emblem Fates – This depends on my wallet, really. I’m not huge on Fire Emblem. It’s easy, pathetically simplistic, and not much fun. However, my mother likes the games a lot, and I said I'd get her the special edition if I could. I expect I’ll play through all three somewhen, but maybe not at launch. - Grand Kingdom - Relatively off the radar, but the chances of me picking this up are good. - Yooka-Laylee - Already backed for a PS4 copy, I am eagerly awaiting October when this is due to be released. - Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness - I enjoyed the first season despite the odds being stacked horrendously against it (screw Urobutcher) so colour me intrigued. - Pokemon Sun & Moon - Obviously. Games I hope get announced/released this year: - Final Fantasy XII HD Remaster. Or even just a PS2 classic port with trophy support. COME THE FUCK ON, SQUARE ENIX. Your best Final Fantasy title is the only one not available on the current gen of consoles, and it's infuriating! - Secret of Mana on the N3DS eShop. I've not played this in years. I want to again something awful. - Drakengard on PS4 as a PS2 classic. Considering they released Drakengard 3, I'm hopeful the original game may eventually get this treatment. Not so fussed about the second one. - Hyperdimension Nepunia vs. Sega Hard Girls – It’s not announced yet, but…we’ll get it. We got the idol manager spinoff, so we WILL get this. - Star Ocean: Second Evolution – My Vita is crying out for this, Square Enix. Come ooooon. Localise. - Ikeni to Yuki no Setsuna – Square Enix going back to their roots can never be a bad thing, considering how much they keep fucking up everything new they try to do. This looks nostalgic and sounds fantastic, so I’ll give it a look-in when it comes here. - Demon Gaze II – Demon Gaze was amazing. It started an obsession with DRPGs for me, so of course I’m on-board for the sequel. I hope they use IA for the soundtrack again, I loved it. - Criminal Girls II - I'm pretty sure NISA announced a localisation for this earlier this year, so if it does come out I'll pick it up. I actually really enjoyed the first game; it was simple and fun dungeon-crawling gameplay with a nice soundtrack, albeit a basic story and creepy game mechanics. I can live with that. ...pretty sure that's everything. Might have missed one or two games, and of course announcements made throughout the year will increase that count. Watch this space. xD |
Well, SRW OG: The Moon Dweller is at the top of my list since it feeds my mecha fanboy needs. Not to mention they're actually gonna release an Asian version with English Subtitles! (about time). Of course, I greatly anticipate the new Zelda, Pokemon, and Persona games too. The Last Guardian is suppose to be released sometime this year too, no? Wake me up if that happens. I guess I still want to try out the new Langrisser game for the 3DS, even if it feels and looks completely different without the original artist. Star Ocean 5 looks like it could be fun. Hated The Last Hope, but I'll keep coming back to the games as long as they continue to be the sole space opera JRPGs.
A few others: Paper Mario: Color Splash - Seems to be getting a lot of hate. Yes, I can see the Sticker Star 2.0 references, and it looks they just added a few new gimmicks and are calling it a new game, but it's still Paper Mario, man. Bravely Second - Want it, but still haven't finished the first one. Actually, I haven't even put more than a couple hours into it. Been sitting on my shelf for 2 years now. Ni no Kuni II looks great, but I don't think we'll get it West it anytime this year. |
Missing some, but I'm certain all of the titles that are a must will be listed.

So far just FE: Fates, Pokemon Sun and Moon, and Persona 5.
There's not all that much I'm reaaaaally excited about this year. o> |
For this year?
I'm pretty hyped for:
|
Mighty No 9 used to be on my list, but it's been pushed back so many times and for so long that at this point I am not nearly as excited as I once was.
Doom is my number one anticipated game at this point! The gameplay looks smooth and the multiplayer reminds me of classic Halo deathmatch with demons thrown in. Plus one of the most brutal gib systems I've ever seen. To say I am excited for some ultra violence is an understatement. No Man's Sky is also looking friggin awesome. Procedurally generated anything is great in my book. The worlds look gorgeous and flying free form through the galaxy should be a blast. Pokemon of course. Not much I can say on that account til we get more information. I might just buy one of them this time around though. Kirby: Planet Robobot looks hella fun! I haven't bought a 3DS game that wasn't Pokemon in quite some time so I am seriously considering this one. I MIGHT get Dark Souls 3. I kinda want to play Dark Souls 1 first since I own it. And honestly I just really want them to release Bloodborne on PC. And finally, I plan on picking up Battleborn. I'm not much of a MOBA player, but given it being more akin to FPS games than traditional MOBAs, I think I want to give it a try and maybe even get invested in the more competitive scene the game will hopefully garner. |
