How long could you go without...

Hello guys. I came back to this forum and had so much fun I spent at least an hour posting around in this section and a few other sections. cx

Anyway, in this thread the question I'm asking is.. how long could you go without your favorite material possessions before you would start to become even slightly irritable?
So let's say your phone, laptop, 3DS, or whatever else you're somewhat addicted to or dependent on. How long until you reach your breaking point?

I could probably go a day without my laptop before becoming super irritable. It's really the boredom that would get to me, because I'd be so bored without my laptop.

I'm basically addicted to this computer, and even if I had a phone to use it's a pretty poor substitute. I'd say a day or two before the insanity reaches me and I start committing horrible crimes in the name of being reunited with my computer.

Everything else, I can do without. Computers with internet > all other material possessions.

Jessie March 16th, 2016 5:37 AM

It depends. I'd say those items are my laptop and 3DS.

If it's just a regular ol' routine day then I could go probably 1 day before going insane.

If it's like vacation (Disney World!) where I'm distracted then I can easily go a week or more without using either (and without even thinking about using them). But once I'm back to the daily life I need my interwebs and games.

Without these things, my existence is barren. I need my computer with internet. That is not an option, it is a necessity.

You see, whilst I have a partner who I love very much and could talk to for hours without need of a computer, that guy... he has a full time job. So I sit here, alone for hours. Unable to drive, unable to really leave the house because there's little room to walk. And too afraid to go out there if I could. I have no friends and my family... don't get me started on them.

I could keep myself entertained with a notebook, drawing and thinking up ideas, and imagining movies and stories in my head. I could keep myself going by writing out said story when I run out of the energy to imagine it. By allowing it to consume my existence, I think I could do this without going too insane for about... four of my fiance's work days? After that, the loneliness and lack of human interaction might crush me. I would become depressed and see no point in doing anything because I can't talk to others and show it to them except for one man who's gotta make us that money.

I'd quickly grow bored without video games as well. We use video games to facilitate cheap entertainment amongst ourselves. (Because we don't have much money; the only source of consistent entertainment we can afford is internet/video games. Travelling is simply not an option at this point, and there isn't much to do around here anyway that doesn't charge a constant fee to keep doing it.) I watch him play, and we discuss or joke about it. Seeing him grow bored and become despondent, I would too. And I wouldn't even be able to play them when I got tired of writing my own stories either. So those are also essential.

I'd probably freak out within seconds. DX My nano, especially, because this has all my music on it. I can't live without my music. I don't listen to it constantly, but if something were to somehow happen to my nano though, I'd be devastated by it. I take my nano everywhere I go because of distractions and to tune out the world around me.

I have had moments where I've been without a phone, and let tell you... it was NOT fun. I ended up having to convince my mom to let me have my dad's cellphone until I could get my own. Not long did my mom get her upgrade was I able to get her old phone and use her old one instead. Been using it ever since.

I did also go without my laptop for about two months. My old charger decided to kick the bucket. :c Luckily, I had my iPad. That took a huge impact on my writing though. The reason being that I use my iPad mostly for writing and such. I did really good without my laptop for those two months, but it was still hard. I had to use my iPad for pretty much everything I used my laptop for. :c

I've never really gone without my iPad though. I'm sure I'd be lost if something actually happened to it. Because as I said above, I use it for writing as well as for personal things. It's the only way I can express myself to others without bringing my laptop with me.

I'd go nuts without my laptop after about a week or so.

CJoE March 16th, 2016 5:25 PM

I probably won't freak out even if I don't use my phone or any of my devices for one week or longer. There's a lot more thing I can do other than using my phone.

Besides, my devices won't run away even if don't use them sometime ★★★

More or less me here. I went on vacation for a week and I didn't use my phone/internet all that much at all due to being distracted. If I'm at home, though, then I can get bored pretty easily if none of my devices are working lol.

When I was younger, my parents would take my computer away from me. I'd do the wise thing, and visit my grandparents. Grandma and Grandpa always had a computer for young FBI to use. May they RIP :)

So to answer the question, about 5 minutes. I don't even need internet, I just need to computer :D

I could probably last about a week without any of my favourite material possessions, but not all of them at once. If I didn't have my laptop, I'd use my iPod to access the internet. If I didn't have one console, I'd play on another. It wouldn't bother me all that much for a while.

The internet is not a material possession. If it was...a day at most.

I went 3 months without any of my electronic equipment. I took a trip down to Central America to explore their countryside. I went from a 1st to 3rd world environment really quickly. I had no access to any type of electricity and relied on one of those $1 phones to make my weekly call. I would have to go on horseback to specific elevated area just to be able to get some signal lol

During those 3 months I learned so much about myself and how unimportant these electronical devices are. They're fun but there's so much to life than a laptop or cell phone.

My phone broke & I had to wait for over a week to get it fixed. At first I went into full on meltdown mode because I text when I'm bored, go online, check emails, and listen to music all on my phone. Buuut it ended up being nice not needing to constantly be looking at my phone, I was kinda sad to reconnect once it got fixed. I dunno, maybe a few weeks?

Sothis March 17th, 2016 7:00 PM

I'd lose it within a couple of hours ;u; I'm very much addicted to the internet and without my computer I'd get very irritable and bored ;;

Nolafus March 18th, 2016 12:19 AM

When I'm not at work I basically live on the internet. Well, it's not that bad, but it's pretty bad, haha.

I could probably go a week without my desktop as long as I was working. If I had a few days off, then I would need to go hang out with friends or something because I would be so bored.

Fannie March 18th, 2016 12:15 PM

I feel like if I had no access to the internet, after a week of insanity I'd probably find myself more of life and it wouldn't be that bad.

Pretty much me. All of my work is on my computer, as well as entertainment and outside interests.
