If given the chance ..
If you were given the chance to redesign Nintendo's handheld system, what would you change? Add? or would you scrap the handheld idea?
|
Would have thought this would have been better in Video Games, but whatever. Two words. Bolded, red, and supersized for obnoxious emphasis, because I cannot stress this enough:
REGION FREE. |

Definitely agree with Meloetta, but I hacked mine to shreds so currently that's a non-issue for me. That in mind, hacking shouldn't be the solution and it was a looooooong time coming. Also, bluntly, Region Locking is dumb.
Other than that, The ability to snap the screens back all the way so you only ever have to view one, rather than one being on and the other displaying nothing in full view. It'd be convenient for Virtual Console games and games that just don't really employ one of the two screens (or, contrarily, games that don't require both screens. Hell, if snapping turned off one of the screens, you could even save power in the long run. External SD space. Look, I don't really mind that they moved to MicroSDs. All of my +4 gig cards are micro. Having it inside the console, though, is horribly inconvenient, especially when you're like me and use the SD quite often. The management application is nice, but it's also slow. Because wi-fi. Separate Games from Saves and Store Cartridge saves locally. This is something that actually frustrates me. Not just with the 3DS, either, as a modern trend. Look, I'm fine with the latter not happening. Carts have always saved to themselves and not the system, save for in some cases- that's nothing new. What does bother me, however, is that various consoles, most notably the Vita and 3DS, store all game data to one single folder (or, as far as the user can see from the system itself, one file). This is especially egregious on the Vita, where there are Deals and free PS+ games constantly, but if you want to delete a game (which you will, because of how badly the proprietary storage devices were handled both in price and in practice), you'll either need PS+ to keep the save or look up a tutorial by a third party to extract the save, which requires dumping the entire game on your computer. Classy. The 3DS' better about this since you can use the variably supported Save backup (which I have words for, but regardless) or put the files on your computer faster...assuming you know what file's what game. So definitely not off the hook. And I don't know why they decided to do this, because it's the absolute WORST. Really hope this doesn't become a common practice. Something other than a nub for a second C-stick. Something that moves. I don't care if it's the same size or shape as the nub, as long as it moves. We're paying more for the XL, so let's get upscaling, please. Make it a different resolution, allow the XL version of said redesign to display at the original resolution, and upscale by default. Gamers will be happy, Nintendo's pockets will be happy, and eyes everywhere will stop bleeding. And...yep. Off the top of my head, that's it. For now. |
I'm not a fan of the 3D. I thought it was a pretty nifty idea when I was a teenage. Now that I'm older, I don't even think about turning it on. I would like Nintendo to get up to speed with the resolution.
I'm sure some of you have seen them, the N64 games running on Unreal Engine? Absolutely amazing right? I'm not saying that the DS should be running such graphics but we need an upgrade. If our cell phones can run HD quality games, then so should our handhelds. A sleeker and classier design. The 3DS XL is bulky. A hassle to truly walk around with. Actually, I never walk around with it. It's heavy and huge. The only classy handheld they came out with was the Gameboy Advance SP. It was perfect. We're paying good money for these handhelds. $200 each. |
