Journals are for sissies...
So, do you keep a journal? Have you ever kept them in the past? What do you usually discuss in them? Like, personal things? Thoughts you can't tell those around you?
I keep both a blog online, and a journal for more personal thoughts I have offline. I guess I'm the type of person who wants to look back at the things I wrote as I got older, just to remind myself of how much I've changed or something. Not only that, but you never know what could happen either. So, what about you? |
I've tried keeping journals only to find that I can never consistently keep them up-to-date.

I used to keep one but I was always worried about people reading it despite my best attempts to hide it so I never really updated it :( I kinda want to keep one now but I don't have enough important things going on to make it worth my while lol

The only type of journal I ever kept was one where, right after I woke up, I would write down a list of everything I wanted to do that day, and then that night I wrote down everything I actually did. I would really recommend doing this if you have trouble forcing yourself to do tasks. I'm not sure why, but writing it down in the morning made me much more likely to do it. And then I felt kind of guilty if I didn't do stuff I wrote down. I only stopped doing it because I can never keep these sorts of things up for long.

Yeah, I do. My journal's a blog. Technically, it's public and anyone has access to it. But not a lot of people read it or really care, and I don't make a point of advertising it too much. So it kind of does have some of my more honest thoughts, but I'm still well-aware of the fact that someone could stumble upon it. I even co-made an entirely custom CSS layout for it with my buddy.
Mostly, it's me trying to solve the various moral and brain dilemmas I get into, dealing with depression and anger, and very unprofessionally reviewing random series that I happen to have finished at the time. It's become a lot of the latter nowadays. These journals serve very important and necessary functions. Without them, my mind gets backed up, and emotional breakdowns are much more likely. I need to purge my thoughts every now and then. |
I actually do keep a notebook with me, I carry it wherever I go if I've got my knapsack. It's not strictly a journal, it is simply filled with my life experience since I've had it. I would write something whenever I felt the need to. It included things such as: various notes from my internship and other jobs; ideas for short films, animations and games; notes from when i was tripping on magic mushrooms; and thoughts and feelings from when I was going through a depression. It's two years old now and I've come to cherish it very much, because it is an archive of what I felt was worth writing from the moment I got it. It reminds me of past perspectives on life and of how much I've progressed and changed. It's almost full, and, as soon as it is, I will go pick up another.

I used to have a livejournal account. Still do, though I haven't posted anything in there in years. I actually cringe every time I look back at it because holy crap I pretty much did nothing but complain about various things in it near the end of its usage. >_o
I don't keep a proper journal anymore. Don't usually see a need to do so. Closest thing I've done to that in any recent time was take a notebook last year and just write down thoughts of mine, anything and everything that came to mind, in an attempt to figure something out. What I thought made me tick and how I could better myself, basically. ...and then I burned the pages after. :D (Or tried to, anyway.) On a sillier note, I remember when I was a kid and I was given a small diary, complete with lock and key, as a present. What I would do is write down pretty much anything (nothing personal, stuff like "today I had cake"), and then try to make people read what I wrote. I feel like I didn't have a grasp back then on what keeping a diary was supposed to mean, eh heh. |
In late-grade school/early-high school, a few of my best friends and I shared a journal - we'd each keep the journal for about a week each and write about anything special that happened during our week (yes, we did see each other every day so it was stupid). We had "comment sections" on each entry where we'd reply to each other, so it was essentially like a blog of sorts, but on paper, lol.
That was the journal I kept longest (and I still have it - I actually think our tradition died because I was so bad at remembering to bring the thing back to school :P), and we actually filled like two whole diaries together - any other journal I kept alone usually had 2 or 3 entries before I forgot about it and stopped writing in it forever. |
I used to keep journals when I was younger, but I'd always write in them for a few days and then forget. I'm just not the journaling type, I guess! I guess Twitter sort of counts as my journal? It's like a micro-journal, for everyone to see!

Back when I was thinking about writing one, I usually just ended writing something like "nothing in particular happened".
Needless to say, I never did that for long. |
I do have a journal. I've had it since... like 2000. My mom gave me it. I used to write in it a lot but not so much anymore. I love that I have it though. I look back on it from time to time to see how much has changed!

Maybe this thread will be up and running again... *pokes at it*
I've kept a journal for more than 10 years. I've filled out 8 variously sized books and they followed me from 5th grade to college. It's amazing to see how much has changed and how little I can relate to myself. The only problem with journals is that the only time you write is when you have time to, and nothing exciting happens. When something fantastic/drastic happens, you don't have time to write. So it's pretty much a memory keeper rather than a moment in time keeper. |
i have a journal, but it's not a regular one i write in by any means. only when the feeling comes to me do i write/draw in it. i've had it for over a year and i think i've done something on maybe 10 pages

I have one journal that I've been keeping for 7 years now, but I only write it in once every few months. I tried to keep a daily journal when I was 20 but I only kept up with that consistently for about two or three months. I've just started bullet journaling (which I reaaally love so much like oh my god, check it out) and I plan on staying as consistent as possible with this. It's a lot easier though because it's more like a planner than a journal.

I use to have one when I was younger
