What the hell, twitter!
So twitter did in fact introduce algorithmic timelines for its users, and apparently it's turned on by default now. What do you guys think of this move, especially considering that it's now pretty much like Facebook (where content they think you'll enjoy comes first).

I don't care because it took me 3 seconds to turn off. Just glad they decided against introducing that 14,000 character limit.

And yes, I do agree that twitter should keep the 140-character limit, or at least increase it slightly more. |
I would say it's annoying, but at least there is that option to turn it off. Facebook gives you the 'option', but eventually reverts back. That's annoying.
|
Is it supposed to be on for ALL users? Because I don't see the difference.
|
I don't think I've seen this feature yet, but I'd definitely disable it. That's at least what makes Twitter more tolerable than Facebook in that regard.

Already disabled it the second I was notified. I don't need a robot timeline.

I haven't used social media since myspace/facebook. I know of twitter but have never really used it. Same for all this other crap kids use and call like kik and some type of photo social media site.

Once it does happen, I'll be opting out of it, but for now I'll just be happy that I haven't been hit yet. |
I use Tweet Deck so I don't think I have to be worried about the algorithmic timeline hitting there. I checked Twitter for a few seconds though and I think mine got affected, so I changed my settings.

I don't have a Twitter account of my own, but I do look at other's accounts every so often.
I don't know what they think they're going to accomplish by switching to randomized sorting of tweets. The changes these social networking platforms are doing is the reason why I don't bother with having my own Twitter or Facebook account anymore. The biggest rational behind any major social networking platform update, especially by Facebook and Twitter, is presumably so they "don't end up like MySpace." After all, both networks are publicly traded companies, and they must answer to what Wall Street bankers (including those at Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Citigroup) and traders/shareholders want of them, even if it's not what the vast majority of users want. Things would probably be a lot different if social networking companies were sole proprietorships, partnerships, or even LLCs (unincorporated limited liability companies). |
