Tom Clancy's The Division

The Division is a fine game, and I think it's worth the bread. Endgame is a bit more tedious than it needs to be though, and Challenge Modes are stupid as hell for no reason. But I like it a LOT more than Destiny, so that's already a good thing in my book. Once they flesh out endgame the game will be great.

I just reached end game last night. What is Challenge Mode like? Haven't attempted it yet. |

Challenge Mode is really damn tough. Enemies have much more armor and do more damage. Beating them lets you get Phoenix Credits that lets you buy high end gear from vendors. |

How did you think The Divison's story matched up to Destiny's? |

I was interested in the game back when it was announced unexpectedly two years ago. Granted, at the time, the concept and dependence on teamplay seemed pretty unrealistic and we knew it would probably tweaked to an umpth degree, this idea of an Open-World TPS MMO where players create dynamic situations and there being sanctions to interacting with characters a certain way or, well, dying, and the emphasis on tactics was pretty cool. I was totally down.
And then numbers happened. I'm fine with Borderlands- not the biggest fan, since I prefer gameplay where there's more general feedback and more avenues of play via capability, abilities, etc, but I'm fine with it. Destiny, again, totally fine with it. I think it has various flaws and the staying power isn't quite there, but I'm fine with it. The Division is the opposite of these, though. It doesn't really have the enemies or the mission structure where numbers make sense other than to say that the game is an RPG, which...it didn't really have to be. And that's fine in its own rite, but it does still have the staying power of Destiny or the repetitive nature of the "looter shooter", which only really appeals to people who are into Destiny and/or Borderlands, and I can't really good and well justify buying a $60 experience that banks on consistent gameplay in a not-so-story based function. Or, I suppose a better way to put it is, I couldn't really see myself spending $60 on an experience (and, as of March 2016, a genre) that doesn't really put much stock into being a dynamic experience in any way when it would very much benefit from it, otherwise. |
not a bad game , finally enjoyed a recent Ubisoft game

Normally I love the kind of game the Division is, and I think it's a fine game overall, but I stopped playing around lvl 22 out of boredom.
There was not enough variety in tasks for me. I can only hear "Small arms fire! Small, arms, fire. JTF hearing this?!" By the same voice so many times before I start cringing. Why does that one officer get pinned down so much?! I played Destiny for 4 weeks straight (as in every second of freetime) and that game was a huge mess (except the shooting) |
It not a game I'm in a rush to get unless I see it going really cheap the friend I've license tranferred with gets it. I really didn't enjoy the beta much and got bored quickly and haven't seen much to convince me that the full game wouldn't be the same. I'd only want it at this point to be an annoying extraction troll. If my friend gets it that's all I'll end up doing until that also gets old.

Regardless of story, the mechanics of the game are actually very smooth and fluid. The cover-to-cover battle system works seamlessly, and the combat system in itself reminds me a lot of Gears of War. Still, the game is very reminiscent of Destiny, and thus if you aren't a fan of looter-shooters and/or repetitive gameplay, than The Division might not be for you.
Side note: just finished collecting all 293 collectibles the other day! Woot woot! |
