Brussels bombings
https://www.reddit.com/live/wmk50bsm9vt3 for live updates. NSFW/NSFL - some pictures from Twitter are disseminating and contain imagery of victims.
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2016/03/22/at-least-one-dead-several-hurt-after-explosions-at-brussels-airport-metro.html This is obviously breaking news and reliable info will come in very slowly. Caution yourself on assumptions or early reporting. |
Apparently death toll is 13 :/

It's clearly the same group that bombed Paris, since they apparently apprehended one of those suspects in Brussels shortly before the bombs went off. It's honestly just ridiculous, these people need to be caught/stop before they can do this again.
Not to mention the terrible stigma they're helping create. |
Incidentally, there were tons of people trying to catch a plane today because these past few days there had been an air controller strike in France and Easter break is this week for most people so... couldn't have found a more packed day to attack the airport.
|
This is just horrible news, especially with Easter around the corner as Went said. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected in Belgium right now.
|
Unfortunate retaliation for finding the Paris attacker.
|
Can we stop killing people in the name of religion?

Huh, third major bombing from an Islamic group this year. Good times await us.
|
Don't make assumptions, guys. Nothing has been confirmed yet. Or has it? Anybody following the news now?
But I kinda assume the same ); |

I only hope more drastic action is taken by the world than the current "It's not my problem" approach. |
ISIS claimed responsibility for Brussels.

I don't understand ISIS and can't think of any way to justify the things they are doing towards the world, so I feel I can only think of them as evil. If there is such a thing as evil, they sure don't fall far from it at least. |
This is so awful for so many reasons. My heart goes out to the victims & the refugees/other Muslims who are going to somehow get lumped in with this extremist group every time they do something.
|
More of these keep happening, and we'll hand over the election to Trump on a silver platter.

Update: 31 dead and 198 wounded. This reminds me of Colectiv, although that wasn't a terrorist attack. |
I was really shocked when I heard about these happenings, certainly as Brussels is only like a two hour drive from my house. It's terrible people do such things.
I read they found a suspicious package at the university of Brussels, which they had to disarm. The entire situation sounds really scary if you ask me. I wish the people there for the best, my heart is with them. |
it's certainly a dire situation... likely a retaliation for the arrest a few days ago.
still, at this rate, Amsterdam is next in line. it seems safety measures are already being taken here as well :/ hearing about another bombing like this isn't making dealing with the refugee crisis any easier either. i guess i just can't understand what the point of these attacks is. fear mongering perhaps, but what are they hoping to accomplish that way? |

Another bombing from ISIS? My music professor was trying to teach us that Islamics aren't horrible nor is their religion violent, because he has visited the Middle East before and was amazed by its culture. These bombings aren't making it easier for everyone else to forgive the Muslims, as like gimmepie said, ISIS is trying to promote further aggression and racism towards their own people in order to gain more recruits.

All this stuff is making me super excited for my plane trip to a super busy airport... |
The number of wounded people is rising astronomically. It's 230 wounded and 32 dead.
|
From the glimpses of what I've read, it looks like the nature of the bombs was similar to what happened during the Boston marathon, because a lot of people have had to have their legs amputated and there are a lot of shrapnel injuries as well. There was speculation about whether nails were involved in the bombs today, and nails and ball bearings were used in the pressure cooker bombs in Boston as well.
Regardless, it looks a little obvious that this is retaliation for the arrest of Salah Abdeslam in Brussels a few days ago, considering that ISIS did step forward to claim responsibility. It's sickening. |
This has caused me to put a first aid kit in my carry on... Just in case... I'd imagine Orlando Florida would be a pretty big target..
