How do you feel when you see somebody with a mainsteam waifu?

Over the years I've felt a lot of emotions in regards to this topic, I've experienced the first 4 stages of the Kübler-Ross model in fact. Although it seems to shift between these on a daily basis.

Denial - Nah, nobody could really want a waifu as bland as Kurisu Makise. They must be on the wind up.
Anger - They AREN'T joking, why????? THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.
Bargaining - Come on, maybe you can experience true love if you watch these shows. It isn't too late.
Depression - Nobody ever takes my advice to watch the shows with better girls. The world is an awful place.

I'm hoping to find acceptance one day. If any of you feel you can help me on this journey then feel free to try.

So yes, over to you. Do you think less of a person for having a mainstream waifu?

DarkestMidnight March 26th, 2016 11:49 AM

Ha yeah, I can kinda relate to this. I have a couple of friends who are super mainstream and it does annoy me a little, but I don't fuss too much. As I like to say, to each their own. :)

As for me, well, I'd honestly think of them as a lower life-form if their waifu-standards do not meet my expectations. I'd call them a pleb, a low-grade cretin. That I'm glad they like a shit waifu because shit is all they deserve.

Honestly though I don't care who you love. I love Erza and Lucy for reasons (hint, its tits) too. I just...don't give these things much of a thought.
Anyway, what do you smoke, lipstick vogue, to come up with these kinds of thread ideas? XD;

Is this supposed to be some kind of diss? If so, you should mind your own damn business. Don't hate on someone because of what they like, because I could do the exact same thing to you and you probably wouldn't appreciate it. That's all I'm gonna say.

Also, I started that thread because of this one, so yeah. I saw that there was not really any place to discuss waifus on here, so I thought I'd start one.

Skip Class March 26th, 2016 4:39 PM

I don't exactly see why it's suppose to be a big deal if someone's waifu is mainstream or not. It's their waifu, not yours. They have their own reasons for having that waifu.

Reunilu March 26th, 2016 6:58 PM

Eh, I try not to diss on someone's mainstream waifu. I have less control over those thoughts with Kancolle ships, especially characters like Kongou and Shimakaze where I think they're complete brats (or in Shimakaze's case, I have the urge to choke someone because of her arrogance) and I think "man, these admirals must have some crazy headcanons to even consider these girls", but only for like a couple seconds. Then I remember I adore girls like Kaga and she's a really popular waifu in Japan.

donavannj March 26th, 2016 9:04 PM

I do not think less of someone for having a mainstream "waifu". It's a bit silly to get your panties in a bunch over someone having a serious crush on a popular character. Waifuism is not for me, however. I draw the line at declaring characters "best X" in their respective series and don't go any further.

Probably not meant to be a diss. More to point out that you say you get a bit annoyed by your "super mainstream" friends, and then turn around and say your waifu is Lucy Heartfillia, arguably the most mainstream girl in anime & manga right now. Fairy Tail isn't what you'd call a niche series. It's quite popular and is firmly in the medium's mainstream.

Lmao no? I found it amusing how you kinda go against what you yourself said in this thread. and I felt like using that konosuba image was the most apt reaction image for the situation, that's it. I mean, come on, Lucy is like one of the most "mainstream waifus" since she's pretty much the main "waifu" candidate of Fairy Tail which is one of the most mainstream anime out there.

I honestly didn't mean any ill will when I posted the comment though - I do offer my apologies if it seemed like I was trying to attack your personal preferences or anything.

if you'd read my post, you'll actually see I have no issues with people loving/liking any characters. I don't judge them for petty reasons like that and I find it quite ridiculous how people can even get serious about things like a particular person liking some "mainstream waifu" or non mainstream one or whatever. XD Its all kinda petty? but to each their own I guess.

Edit: OH SHIT I JUST REALIZED WHERE I WENT WRONG.
Its the last line, right? "What do you smoke to come up with these thread ideas?" <------ this was actually directed at the OP, not you. I should've clarified! My bad, my bad. Sorry about that, lol

Lipstick Vogue March 27th, 2016 2:26 AM

It's not petty. It's just wanting fellow humans to experience life at it's fullest.

derozio March 27th, 2016 2:28 AM

If having a better nijigen waifu lets you do that then sure lmao

Pinkie-Dawn March 27th, 2016 6:37 AM

It really depends on the character you're claiming as your waifu. If she's underaged, then we have a problem. It's important for people of the otaku culture to find a waifu that's within legal age without getting in trouble with age laws, despite their lack of understanding of the difference between fantasy and reality. Unfortunately, the majority of mainstream waifus are below 18, making otakus easy targets for guys like Chris Hansen.

machomuu March 27th, 2016 7:11 AM

Pretty normal, actually. Mainstream waifus are generally pretty shit and the result of pandering, which goes hand in hand with the fact that anime fans are prone to bad decisions. I mean, really, if you're expecting the masses to pick a good waifu to begin with, something's wrong.

But in knowing this it's pretty easy to write off someone's love for Sparkledera or Breastia because it just comes with the territory. After all, if the better waifus out there were given their day in the sun- which wouldn't happen- they'd probably end up degrading overtime as a result.

Types of Depictions

Any depiction of a child engaged in sexually explicit conduct may be considered child pornography. This can include photographs, digital images, computer-generated images, drawings, videos, or animations, among others. This also applies if the person in the depiction is actually an adult but appears to be a minor. Moreover, altering an image or video so that it appears to depict a minor may also be child pornography (for example, editing the face of a minor onto the nude body
of an adult in an image or video).

But I agree that mainstream waifus are generally trash due to being intentionally made to pander towards the otaku culture, which is also scaring western audiences who never watched anime from enjoying a good anime (and a video game with an anime art style).

So... literally no character is available according to you?
Wow, you really must love being so puristic...

I'm not sure if you realize it, but... the girl you have in avatar is... a bit underage as well, wouldn't you say?

Lipstick Vogue March 27th, 2016 11:29 AM

It is actually a memorial for Serena's long hair. I plan on changing it with another theme once Serena's out of the main cast, assuming S&M doesn't take place next to Kalos. So she is not my waifu. And what's wrong with being puristic?

Oh lol, it's all good. I guess I kinda didn't think it over, and I overreacted a lot. I did kinda go against myself tho, you're totally right. I'm just weird in that way. :)

Let's just start out on a new foot and forget any of this happened, k? ;)

My Apologies,
Tempest

I guess I can sorta see where you're coming from in the sense that you feel they're missing out on a lot of good ones that aren't necessarily that well known, and you'd like to see the less well-known ones get more attention than they do? Other than that, I can't really see how it matters, watching anime and having waifus (mainstream or otherwise) is just all in good fun xD

Akiba March 29th, 2016 4:51 AM

Whenever I mention Kancoll--

Netto Azure March 30th, 2016 1:55 PM

I'll just go with the husband-os

Surely you jest! Anime watching and waifu claiming business is serious business! Get with the times, Soph :(

But for realsies, I'm not bothered one way or the other. Whatever floats each persons' boats...

So long as they don't steal my waifu
