Hard time getting used to the new name
Every so often, a company, product, or even a forum user will change its name. In many cases, the majority of us will get used to the previous name, that it's hard for us to adjust to the new name. Sometimes, long after such a name change, one will continue to refer to that entity under its former name.
What are some entities that have changed their name in your lifetime that you still frequently use the former name of? Whether I use a company, product, or forum member's old name long after a name change depends on whether the old name sounds better to me. Among the previous names I still frequently use are:
Additionally, when I write historical information about companies that have since changed their name or merged with another company, I will use the name said company had at the time I refer to within such articles, for historical context. As an example, if I were to talk about what historical stuff at Verizon from before its formation in 2000 (with the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE), I use whatever predecessor company name was in use at the time I'm referring to and specify which company whose operations I'm talking about. |
For me, the only one that stands out is Chicago's Willis Tower. I call it the Sears Tower so often that I get genuinely taken aback when I hear tourists or friends visiting from out of town call it by it's new name. It'll always be the Sears Tower to me.

Bank one Ballpark used to be the Arizona Diamonbacks baseball field. Everyone called it Bob for short. Then, Chase bought it out. It became Chase field instead... which still doesn't have that ring to it like the first name used to have. :c

Whenever something or somebody's name changes, I try to respect this as much as I can, by forcing the old name out of usage and making myself use the new name. But if names are changed too frequently, then I go with the first name I knew of. This happens a lot on the internet in particular.
So this usually doesn't happen to me, really. I can't think of any examples in particular for a frequent name changer because I don't talk to the people who used to do that much anymore, meaning I don't use their names. I suppose the most I can say is that I sometimes refer to Square Enix as Squaresoft. |
Yea, user Castform still reads as jellicentfan1 to me.

Jacobs Field will always be Jacobs Field to me.

Jif cleaning products changing to Cif changed my life. Psh, not really I don't clean. My brother is a pre-T transguy and I have trouble remembering when and when not to use his new name.

Also, speaking of Bank One and Chase-I had a hard time adjusting to the Bank One name when that brand replaced NBD (National Bank of Detroit) in my region. |
I used to be named FBI agent. Clearly we dropped the "agent" and became more than one person. We quite like the change.
