Genres You're Drawn to When Writing

I've been slowly easing myself back into writing and was curious: when you write, what kind of genres do you tend to write? Do you mostly write space operas, romance, fantasy, or something else? Do you like switching it up and trying new genres? What's something you'd be interested to try and but haven't done before?

For fanfic writers, do you have particular series you write the most fanfic for?

:)

I am a sucker for fantasy--epic quests, awe inspiring treasures, cool creatures, and all.

Pokemon is my favorite fandom to write in because there's a wealth of possibilities to explore, and so much that isn't explained.

I wasn't trying to rip you off, if that's what you're insinuating? I have better things to do and I don't actively pay attention to blogs, so I didn't know. You're not the only one who was thinking about genre lately I guess.

*To edit to talk about mine: I like darker stories with lots of mystery and suspense. I would love to write more horror-esque stories, but I feel like I don't quite have the skills too at the moment. When I wrote fanfiction, I pretty much exclusively wrote shipping fics, the main two being Pokeshipping and Contestshipping.

For longer fics I do like writing adventure and mystery/suspense similar to the National Treasure movies and Dan Brown books. It's fun having the characters go place to place and finding out all kinds of things. Lately though I wrote much shorter fics in the romance genre, aka pretty much shipping haha. I did try to write a chaptered romance fic, but I think I prefer the shorter format as I don't think I'll be interested in dragging a romance story too long and would rather just get to the relationship part. Several of my shorter stories have been more sort of slice of life also.

For fanfiction, I used to write a lot of Pokemon but not as much as before, though I did post a very short story some months ago and there's one idea I would like to try. Other series I've written for lately also were Fullmetal Alchemist, Homestuck (not as much anymore either), and Bravely Default.

I find myself being drawn to romance/drama. Keep in mind too, that most of what I write is also what I call disability fiction. I often create a lot of characters, usually the MC and love interest, having some problems too.

On the rare occasions I write solo I tend towards the horror/thriller genre or other equally dark and messed up stuff.

I write poems a lot of the time and songs/music.
to me, a darker theme is better to work with.

e.g. suicide, loneliness, revenge etc
I find it harder to get into a role if it has darkness in it.

nowadays it is usually about my heritage and more mystery intrigue.

I tend to write slice of life stories, but during times of real struggle, since that's when the character development can be brought out. I often pair this with a little bit of sci-fi, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a sci-fi story, since it's not the main focus. I guess I'm not sure what to call this genre, haha.

Ah... I've written a lot of science fiction, but I actually enjoy writing action, adventure, thriller, and horror.
