The Pokecommunity Library (Shhhhh!)

So I was organizing my books last night and though to myself "Hey! We should have a thread to show off our book collections!" Then I started writing this thread like 4 times in different forums before realizing a better place for it and now here we are. Anyway, show us a picture of the books on your shelf and maybe tells us some of what's up there if the names are hard to read.

Here's mine:

I have a ton of Harlan Ellison, Clive Barker, and Arthur C. Clarke right now, and, as much as I tried to avoide it for a long time, Stephen King.

If you want pictures of all the books in my house, that will take some time. There are currently books in every room of the house except for two. Everywhere else just has books piled around on every flat surface or placed into over-stuffed bookcases.

But for now, I'll share the collection of books I most like to talk about: my Orson Scott Card collection. This was from a post I wrote last year, but I haven't made many updates to my collection since then. Just one book and more statues/plushies to sit on the shelves.

Spoiler:

This is my collection as it currently sits. One four-shelf bookcase and two large buckets. There's more above the bookcase, but we'll get to that!

This is the bottom shelf of the bookcase. It's the only one that's crammed, because I wanted to make sure that the entire Pathfinder series (the books on the left) were displayed, and apparently no editor was hired for those books. But they're pretty.

The third shelf of the bookcase. This mostly holds the Alvin Maker series, most of which I bought in one swoop in B&N one day. The hardcovers came from looking around used bookstores. Right after the large hardcover Ender's Game book (which is about the movie) are two copies of the Entertainment Weekly that had a promo cover for the movie. I went to several stores looking for that!

Second shelf. Not a lot to say about it. The box set I got for Christmas 2013, since I had my eye on that edition of Ender's Game. The copy of Xenocide next to it, I bought with a gift card a coworker gave me because she said I was the nicest person in the store. :3

This is the second shelf without the box set on it, so you can see what it's hiding. The last book is an encyclopedia about the Enderverse.

This is the top shelf, and the one that holds the books that I've read the most. Though, it is holding ten copies of Ender's Game! The card in the plastic is a promo from the movie, and it cost me only two dollars from Amazon.

Here's another view without the two statues and card. You can see which books I've read through the most over the years (there was a long time that Speaker For the Dead was my favorite book). One copy of Speaker is signed by OSC himself. My friend got it for me when OSC visited her university, so that copy came from Utah.

The box on top, towards the left, is a limited edition copy of Ender's Game. I bought it to celebrate my promotion to full-time at my job. I took pictures of it, but it's really not that photographic of a book. My favorite part of that set is that it came with a hardbound copy of the original short story "Ender's Game" with all of Card's editing notes in it. So fascinating!

Next to the buckets! Here's a better view of them so you can see just how crammed full the top one is.

Take the cover off the top one, and this is what you'll see.

These are the three stacks as they sit in the bucket. I don't know why, but I'm very happy that one of those copies of Wyrms is the first edition. Above Wyrms is Hart's Hope which I desperately need a new copy of. :( Even though it's not really one of my favorites of the collection.

Without those three stacks, this is what's inside the bucket. Magic Street is one of my favorite Card books and is the best example of the "flow" I find in Card's writing. Homebody eluded me for years. I read it from the library and could never find it in stores. (It's very difficult to find any of these books in this bucket in stores.) I finally found it in a used bookstore.

The next bucket down. This one holds some movie merchandise that I have no room to display, and the graphic novels. On the left is the board game, and on the right is the calendar.

Movie media! The movie soundtrack on the left. On the right is the Target special edition case.

If anyone asks, this is why I like Marvel over DC. :V These are also where the brand became very apparent, what with all the times the name "Ender" pops up there. I haven't really read any of these yet, but I have flipped through them. The Speaker adaption lost quite a bit of what made the book what it is. But if anyone wants a quick way to read Ender's Game, the comics are a good way to go.

This is what's above the bookcase. Framed movie poster, four plastic cups from the movie theater, and that goddamn ICEE cup that I desperately wanted and finally found on Amazon. I found it at 4 in the morning one random day and knew I had to have it. That's also a display box of the trading cards, which I would like to get a complete set of. Except for Harrison Ford's autograph card because I'm not made of money.

I also have five Ender's Game shirts: three from the movie and two I got online. One of the movie ones was a Langer's promotion. Fortunately, I work in a grocery store and it was easy to get the necessary UPCs for a good price! :P To go along with the shirts, I have two pairs of shoes in Dragon Army's colors: grey, grey, orange.

Speaking of grocery stores, one day while in work, I glanced at the snack section and saw a few bags of popcorn that had stickers on them. On closer inspection, the stickers were a promotion for the Ender's Game movie, where you could enter to win a free screening of the movie. I never entered, but I bought 21 bags of popcorn at $3 a bag. Just for a sticker. But they make a nice addition to my bookcase!

To close out this post, I leave you with this that I have hanging on my wall. Because I am a butt.

Yes I still keep some of my college papers hnnng

I'm only posting one shelf because most of my books are my textbooks from high school/college and some from my dad's college days too, lol. The ones pictured they're an assortment of business books (both school and reading my own) and novels. One the books, The Beatles ones, was from a friend actually she used for one of her classes and she gave it to me. I haven't really read through it except for a few pages here and there, I should get to that eventually. The Italian and Spanish dictionaries were for when I studied Spanish in high school and Italian college. Meanwhile, the French one was from my parents, lol.

With authors, for the most part I only own one or two books from a specific author so no "x books from x author" here except for the Harry Potter books by JK Rowling (which I don't have pictured). I want to own more Tim O' Brien and maybe Dennis Lehanne books, though.

I have a few more novels and short story collections, but my sister has them in her room haha. I also have the Harry Potter books as mentioned before, but I moved them somewhere. Otherwise, I'm slowly switching to e-books.
