Hey Gamma. Nice to have you here; I know you're not new, but this is my first time meeting you. Love the Gastly line too.

Hey all, my name's Caaethil (if you couldn't tell). I have a welcome thread, but apparently I can't post links. Go read that if you want my life story (just kidding, but that's where to go if you want to read me ranting about my favourite everything).

Anyway, as for types and partners and all of that business, Water is totally the coolest type in the game, and the Froakie line is not only the coolest Water line, but the coolest line full stop. So I'd put Froakie down as my partner. :D

Edit: Look, look, five posts! All right here! :) (I half expect to hit 10 before anybody responds to this, since I'm a tryhard and will get to Greninja before I even touch the rest of the forum).

Hey man! Welcome man!

Im also a big fan of the water starters, and will almost everytime pick a water starter in a game. What games have you played so far?

Hope to see you around!

My main series games, in order of starting them:

HeartGold -> Black -> White 2 (still never finished it, haha) -> X -> AlphaSapphire -> Platinum (restarted, never beaten yet).

Despite being a comparatively new player in the grand scheme of things, what with all the Gen 1 players I'm sure there are around here, I'm quite the Pokemon nerd and have always been the most knowledgeable among my friends (despite what some might tell you, heheh).

Only time I didn't pick Water first time was in Unova, when I picked Snivy. I was quite a bit younger at the time, and recall claiming that Oshawott was the worst of the three because it looked sad. Samurott is super cool though and Oshawott has grown on me.

Sorry Tepig, you're still kind of meh.

I do have massive nostalgia for Totodile, the 'mon I chose first back in HeartGold. Love him to this day.

I remember when everyone hated Oshawott, but since he's my Poke-Mascot the day I fell in love with him I always felt the little guy had potential, and you have to admit even I didn't expect Samurott coming, as far as what the final evo design would look like.

The Alola starters' current popularity poll rankings remind me so much of Unova's starters upon first reveal, with the Grass-type being the fan fave, Fire-type being in the middle, and Water-type being the unloved "derp" but I know Popplio can sway some fans with its evos.

Part of me thinks this might happen, but another thinks that Popplio will retain the quirky factor we don't see much in final forms. I don't know, I just feel like Popplio has a certain silly charm that it won't lose, and instead it'll keep the circus vibe and look a little bit silly in it's final form, while still being more impressive.

But hey, Samurott happened.

Edit: We're past 10 posts, team!

Maybe we haven't seen many Rowlet fans in this thread yet, but the owl is definitely leading 7th Gen starter popularity polls at the moment.

It's been good, I love the female protagonist's design once again, given how diverse the females in the games tend to be. The legendary types have been a bit mixed reaction though, if you ask.

Well, the competitive community seem to already be frowning down upon Lunala due to being 4x weak to Ghost and Dark. Solgaleo on the other hand seems to be looked at for repeating the "Metagross type" once again, and on a design you wouldn't expect for the type.

GoldenAltaria June 2nd, 2016 10:09 AM

Furthermore, Solgaleo's ability, Clear Body, is the same as Metagross'. I think GameFreak really dropped the ball there, even if Solgaleo gets Fire-type coverage moves; Solgaleo definitely should have had Fire as one of its two types, or at the very least, a different ability than Metagross.

The circus theme! I heard of that. Rowlet's the kind of director/owner (or acrobat?) and Litten's the tiger jumping through fire hoops and popplio's the clown, right?

I've usually been dissatisfied with the male protagonist designs, but I think he's the first decent one since Emerald Brendan.

The female is the one I usually like due to their diverse designs, and I love how this one has a flower pattern on her shirt. Really good attention to detail when it comes to showing which region she's doing her adventure in, and her bag reminds me of a watermelon as well which I admit is also cute. Don't get why people hate her hat so much though.

Even though the protagonists' designs are nice, I'm really hoping for trainer customization to make a comeback; that was one of my favorite aesthetic aspects of XY!

Hikamaru June 2nd, 2016 10:36 AM

I'll still play as the default female design. Going to likely choose her canonical design (white skin and dark hair) since that's closest to my actual appearance.

Did I misspeak somewhere? Woops, no. I think I might have mentioned that Samurott is cool, but nah, I'm sticking with Froakie (so, Greninja at this point).

My name came from this specific part of this specific name generator. And yes, I was looking for a name for my World of Warcraft night elf at the time. I just adopted it later when I decided to change away from the cringe names I chose for myself online back when I was younger.

Unfortunately the protagonist names haven't been revealed yet, so people have just been using fan nicknames. I'm sure they've been calling the male stuff like Sun and Sol, and the female's nicknames at the moment seem to be Moon and Luna. Heck, we may not even know the official names until after the game release.

..I don't know what an "OP" is but thank you?
I really like cats too! Yes, I agree. I would wanna see what each of the starters looked like before I chose. But I'm defiantly going to be getting Pokemon Sun version.
I can hardly wait ~

Sheep June 2nd, 2016 8:10 PM

I want to get Sun but it's going to take a darn lot of convincing to get the boyfriend to change his mind since we always get separate versions. ; ;' Gonna have to settle for Moon. Though I do love the Moon mascot legendary a whole lot.

Cats are amazing too! I always give brownie points to cat lovers. I wish I could adopt all the cats in the world.... if I had space. 8'c

Pokemon Moon should be really cool too, don't worry. I'm pretty sure it will have more version exclusive stuff that can only be obtained in Pokemon moon version, so ..don't frown kay?

Don't worry, Lunala does have a good design and is my personal fave of the two. I guess I don't like Solgaleo as much because we already had Pyroar.

The only issue Lunala is facing is being frowned down upon in competitive but I'm sure Moon version is definitely going to be the more beautiful of the two. Granted, I do choose the "blue" versions mostly.

Call me Gamma June 3rd, 2016 10:03 PM

I rarely have problems choosing versions because I always get both. That way, I can complete the game on my favorite of the two and use the other for challenge runs/ version exclusive trades.

Getting Sun unless the exclusives sway me in Moon's direction. I know there's plenty of lions already but Solgaleo looks so very cool.

I do wonder how you think about the complete irony that a Pokemon based on the sun is weak to Fire moves? Although I have actually found out there is alchemy basis behind the Steel-type, specifically the symbol of a lion shown consuming the sun, which represents purifying of metal. Game Freak surely went deep with that.

Eh, it kind of makes sense that they aren't making the Sun mascot a fire type. What would the Moon type be, I mean? There are rocks on the moon uh... Or Water, I suppose. Since the moon controls the tide c: But they kind of already made that deal with Lugia and Ho-oh imo.

Lunala is apparently based on a bat, but has been speculated to be a ghost bat which could explain the Ghost typing.

I'm going to side with Moon for my first run of the games. I have a sneaking suspicion that Lunala's ability "Shadow Shield" is going to directly play into its x4 weakness to dark.

Hikamaru June 5th, 2016 9:45 PM

I'll likely get both versions since my brother doesn't play, but Moon will be my main.

Brolaire June 5th, 2016 9:58 PM

I'm going to get both, because that's what I've been doing ever since Gen 3 lol. I'm definitely playing Sun before Moon. I like bats as critters, but I think Lunala looks kind of... idk. It reminds me of Cresselia, another Pokemon I never really liked. My fav type is Steel btw

First off, welcome to the community Bro! Steel types are pretty cool, big fan of Lucario personally and Aggron is growing on me. Whats your favorite steel type?

Secondly, I agree with choosing Sun over Moon. Lunala isn't really a 'mon that immediately sparks an interest to me whereas Solgaleo, creates much more of an interest for me.

I definitely find them to be solid Pokemon, though they may not be my favorites. I do have an affinity for Swirlix and the Floette line though. they are just good ambassadors of the Fairy Type as a whole imo

Klefki is cool, I like how in the anime it looks after the Princess Keys! I'd really like to get a Klefki keyring to keep my keys on!

Doing great sir!

I agree with you on those Pokemon, they're all among my fave Fairy-types and have great use competitively. Sylveon is also a beast with Pixilate Hyper Voices to run rampant with, showing that a cute face can be a hidden powerhouse.

Brolaire June 8th, 2016 7:22 PM

Fighting type is pretty cool, I like the moves they have access to. I remember back in the day Hitmontop was pretty dirty, I doubt it's used that often now though lol

I also have an affection for music and cute cartoon characters. Hello Doodbrah, welcome to the forums. I never knew about the Mew glitch when I was a kid, so I only recently got my first one with the event.

Updated for you; and good choice!

Squirtle was my first starter in Kanto, growing up playing Pokemon R/B/Y. <33

Anyone ever think about how stupid the elite 4 challenge is? Think about it without the in game item mechanics you and your team would have to be stronger than the 5 strongest trainers in the region COMBINED just to have a chance! (that or have ridiculous luck and/or unfair type advantages) that means that each new champion would have the strength of......wait a second let me start over. lets say theres only an elite 4 and no champion. When someone become the champion they essentially have the strength of 4 elite 4 members combined. now move on to THAT champion being beaten. that would mean that the new champion would theoretically have to have the strength of 8 elite four members. This cycle would keep going on until eventually the new champ cannot be beaten. after many years the champ would die or resign. thus starting the cycle over again.

That.. does make sense, but also that might be affected by the fact that most trainers restart each region. Most of the time, each trainer can barely defeat the current champ. Most of us use our fair share of battle items, so I think that's kinda... We might be stronger than them, or just have a lot of Revives on hand, but I don't think there's a power difference big enough to warrant any champion being as strong as eight Elite 4 members. O: Maybe if someone were to take their old team into lots of new region and completely dominate??

idk.. that's kind of interesting to ponder...

THAT ASIDE.

Welcome to PC, guys!

Or welcome back, if you're just coming back around again. c:

huh. Never thought of it that way. So what you're saying is that each champ gets a new team for each generation of trainers? Forgive me if I don't understand.

I don't like the current system as well, Would love it more if they had a tournament style of endgame, where after beating the other people who have 8 badges, you then get to challenge the elite Four + champion.
But the champion being stronger than the elite four sound fair, since (I think) the elite four can challenge the Champion as well for his/her spot.

Smashgunner June 15th, 2016 4:28 AM

Well it would be better if you could do an online mode as well. Anyone? No? Yes?

Hey there everybody ^^ Sorry to just bust into the conversation that was going on.

I just wanted to see how everyone has been and up to? I assume probably every Sun and Moon questions were asked already, so I am just not going to start with one. And was just wondering if anyone is doing anything this summer? ^^

And again sorry if this is a stupid post heh.

No posts here are stupid; no worries~!

I'm okay myself. Been reading all about the new Sun and Moon info! As for the summer, nothing really planned... just working. </3 How about you? o:

Daixtey June 15th, 2016 1:13 PM

Oh wow, thought I wouldn't get that quickly a response.

I am just sitting in the heat of the summer. Somehow since 2007, Central Europe always gets hit with these heat waves in summer ^ ^ .And trying to find a job to do for a while till I get a real one. Like a small job to earn some money while looking for an actual one. Also going to the city and watching the European Football Cup games in a bar. Somehow I am the only who is not drinking beer but cola in those bars heh.

Regarding Sun and Moon it is the same as ORAS for me, somehow I don't get that hyped anymore. Maybe I've become cyncial while becoming older? : P

All I would like to say is....Yungoos is gonna be the one Pokemon guaranteed to be on every single one of my teams I play with in Alola, a la Swellow in Hoenn.

Yungoos surely has overpowered abilities, but Pikipek seems to be the newbie I'm loving at the moment. If that thing's final evolution has Talonflame or Staraptor-esque stats I may actually consider the bird.

Those abilities are actually not the main reason for my liking Yungoos. I actually like its design, a first for me when it comes to the early route rodents.

I will like Pikipek a lot more as long as it changes typing like Fletchling. I really don't want to another Normal/Flying type. The Grass/Flying typing would be pretty cool and has some pretty good reason for believing in it due to Pikipek's widespread speculation that it can use Bullet Seed. (Or has it been confirmed it can learn it? I can't quite remember)

I think Peck is only what we know about, since a wild Pikipek KO'd the player's Popplio in the E3 livestream. Learning Bullet Seed won't just be a way to benefit Skill Link but it also fits with its description on the official website, just can't see the evolutions changing types though.

Daixtey June 16th, 2016 12:30 PM

I like Yungoos too, the design seems fun and cute to me ^^
But I like the bird too. I didn't check the stats, since I am more a casual player : P So I don't really watch much on stats heh. Starraptor was my favourite early route Bird evo so far. So I am excited to see to what the bird evolves.

Smashgunner June 17th, 2016 10:19 AM

Well after careful consideration I've figured out the mistake that I made about the elite 4 challenge. I realized that you only need to be strong enough to beat an elite 4 member without too much damage. Like if you were twice as strong as an elite 4 member you'd probably sweep right through the elite 4. This was an incredibly stupid thing to not realize and truthfully I am embarrassed...........well enough with the mushy stuff. I can't seem to get notifications about this thread unless someone quotes me........anyone know how to fix that?

Yeah you only get notifications if someone quotes you or clicks the like button on your post. You can subscribe to the thread though by clicking on Thread Tools at the top right of a page or tick a box when replying to a thread. You can then easily find the thread in your Control Panel or Subscription list or even choose to be notified by email of new posts.

Anyone have plans for the weekend?

New anime episode day for me! ^^

Sheep June 17th, 2016 5:11 PM

Pikipek is adorable. I like Fletchling a lot too but Pikipek clicks so much more, its head/body has more definition than Fletchling which I like more and the hair tuft is too cute. Hopefully what it evolves into will be just as nice. =o

No weekend plans for me, unless you count video games and anime. Hee hee. S'all I need this and most other weekends. 8D

Laguna June 17th, 2016 6:13 PM

Yeah, I don't got any plans for the weekend either. Since it's summer now I literally have zero responsibilities. I'm only keeping up with two anime series right now (JoJo: Diamond is Unbreakable and Ace Attorney) so I'm not really watching much unless I go on a small Pokémon marathon or something.

Also, Pikipek might be adorable, but Iwanko is pretty much the best thing ever. Except for Rowlet I guess. Rowlet is the bestest thing ever.

Poké Bean June 17th, 2016 8:34 PM

Video games and anime sounds like a pretty perfect weekend!

I like Pikipek's design, it stands out from the previous early route birds. Iwanko is neat, I like the rock typing! Either it or Nekkoara are my faves out of the non-starters revealed so far. Not sure for how long there'll be space for them on my team though!

Part of this community's charm is indeed the wide diversity of topics, ranging from serious discussions to complete chaos (in a good way), so im glad that's to your liking!

JJ Styles June 21st, 2016 2:58 AM

Oh do not worry about PeePee over there. Complete utter chaos is his nickname since his days hangout and about in Gearbox's forums, usually bashing Gearbox for making Duke Nukem Forever the way it was, and sharing his rather pessimistic sentiments on how Gearbox's said reboot of Duke, Duke Begins will be bad unless Gearbox decides to change their mindset, PeePee's utter absolute savagery in the NA LoLforums, usually getting into flamewars against lower tier players and those who praise character nerfs.

But do not ever worry. PeePee is still civil when he decides to be. I've already told him the code of honor in this place.

FedericoAzor June 21st, 2016 10:48 AM

I must say I think I have some sort of a problem here since my favourite Pokémons were always fire and ice types... It doesn't make any sense does it? :/

Welcome! Nice to meet you! Hm, for the thread, would a Dratini be okay~?

And Charizard isn't a Dragon type outside it's mega evolution. D:

Warwolf 01 June 21st, 2016 7:46 PM

Dragon Types Pokemon

Before you start the battle with your opponent just check the stats on his dragon type Pokémon to find out what element it is weak to, some dragons are weak to ice attacks and others are weak to water type attack, some are even weak to electric type attack, you have to check your dragons weakness to that of your opponents and figure out which attack will gain you the victory over your opponent. If you are unsure and need more help I am happy to help you out with basic moves on all types of Pokémon, I hold a Black Trainer card with 5 stars on Pokémon diamond on NDS with 11 - 0 victory/loss ratio on linked battles with other really strong trainers. So when you get moveset advice for each Pokémon for your version of the game from me you know you are speaking to a Legend on the game, since the Black Trainer card is the hardest thing to obtain in the game, you need to do a lot of tasks on the game to achieve it and I have already achieved it. And also beaten the Game designer and developers record on the game, which has given me an award for completing the game.

Flowerchild June 22nd, 2016 12:26 AM

I'm so glad that I now know how to type-trump dragon types. I knew how to type-trump every other Pokémon of course, but I always suspected that there must be something more, something fundamentally different about the mysterious dragon-type that made it... well, somehow special to me. Type-trumping them, I knew in my heart of hearts, had to be more complicated than just using an ice-type and crushing them, and I maintained this belief steadfastly, confident in this knowledge in the face of overwhelming evidence otherwise. I knew that one day, a true master, a champion among champions, he who holds the Black Trainer card, would one day appear to educate me, and that when I saw him, I would gain enlightenment, learn his teachings and, in turn teach them to the rest of the Pokémon world. Now, I stand on the cusp of enlightenment. You have taught me, O Warwolf 01, how to defeat the mighty dragon-types. I pledge my life to following your teachings.

Welcome to PC!

I have always been a fan of the fire and dragon types. My favorite Pokemon (this is a tough one) would either be Charizard (the very first Pokemon I chose) or Blaziken (very similar to a comic character I created a long time ago that is unrelated to Pokemon).
