Pokemon Recipes

This is just an idea because I like cooking, but we could have a segment where we show how to make recipes inspired by Pokemon, or how to decorate food to resemble your favourite Pokemon!

They would come with instructions and pictures to follow on with and would be rather simple so anyone could make them!

Simple ones could include decorating cupcakes to look like Pokemon and Pokeball cake pops and the like, or it could be more complex like making Pokepuffs, poffins, or food that actually resemble Pokemon (ramekin digletts or summat).

And there could also be food loosely inspired by Pokemon - like "Apricorn Juice" or vanilluxe ice cream!

bobandbill April 24th, 2016 11:49 PM

Cute and delicious idea. :B What do we want to call the article series...? Pokemon Food/Pokemon Recipes? Latter seems fine to me.

I like the idea of instructions - recipes would be fun to share.

One comes to mind actually, and I'll quote-notify her to see if she's interested. She's been doing a neat collection of cupcakes with the top decorated to look like different Pokemon.

We could call it Pokemon Recipes or base it on a Pokemon like Snorlax's Food Corner or something like that

If it's gonna be decorating the instructions will be super simple - just use your favourite baking mix and then instructions for decoration - only the photos will have to be high quality!

Sylphiel April 25th, 2016 5:04 AM

There's so much potential here, I absolutely love the idea!

Thinking of cooking/baking as related to Pokemon, I think it might be neat to incorporate "Hearthome" in there somewhere for the title - you know, after the location of the poffin cooking place in D/P/P? :D Maybe "The Hearthome Cooking Channel" or something along those lines.

Impo April 25th, 2016 5:11 AM

Hearthome Cooking Channel sounds much cool :) !

If I knew how to art I would make a cool banner for it but I cannot haha

i can help you out with that if you like :)
just tell me how you would like it to be, what image you want in the banner, text etc
you can pm me it or post it here

This is a really cool idea! So far, I have mostly just decorated cakes and cupcakes with Pokemon (see my art thread in my sig!), but I'm always down for trying new recipes.

The tough part is coming up with unique recipes, which is something I'm new to. I've seen some really awesome Pokemon desserts online, but I wouldn't want to just copy another person's creation.

Additionally, doing this right would be a pretty decent investment in that I would need to buy the supplies, which could include everything from ingredients to unique molds to nice printed labels, plus creating a nice photography setup. It would definitely be a big project requiring a lot of resources on my end. I like the idea of it, it just wouldn't exactly be easy to produce. :S

Something like The Hearthome Cooking Channel sounds nice, though! Or perhaps The Lumiose Cooking Channel or The Striaton Café Channel, since those are also places well-known for their restaurants. Having help with graphics would be excellent, Pebbles, especially if certain recipes wind up looking nicer with cute labels (like a bottle of Apricorn Juice with a Pokéathalon logo on it)!

Hmm.. I'm not really sure what it should look like, probably bebas neue font saying the title and one of the in game restaurants and a chef from x and y? Depends what others think too

New recipes will be tricky, but if we wanted to start off with just decorations we could just say 'use your favourite cupcake/cake pop/cake mix' and then just start with the decoration instructions!

This wouldn't all be on your shoulders, don't worry! I'm happy to make some recipes myself - I have a few cooking utensils that can make pretty cakes (cake levellers, offset spatulas, piping bags, etc) (though I probably can't make pretty cakes myself ahah)

But for cupcake decoration I think a rolling pin for fondant and a knife to cut out shapes would be the only essentials, the rest doesn't need to be considered until later

These location based names sound the best to me!

It's absolutely true that anything involving cakes is pretty simple, and personally I have cake recipes that are already great, plus most of the necessary supplies, so that's not a problem! But in the first post you suggested making foods like ice cream and juice. That is where things get complicated. I don't currently have tried and true recipes for those things, and they require a whole other set of unique utensils that we would basically have to buy specifically for those projects.

If we're just talking about decorating cakes/cupcakes, then yeah, it's pretty simple. I haven't worked with fondant before, but I know the basics and could do it. But I agree that it's more fun to do unique food based off stuff from the Pokemon universe or based off the Pokemon. The issue is just that it requires a lot of money, supplies, skill and time. :P

Ah I see what you mean! I didn't consider that because I already have a juicer, and i have a high speed blender that can make ice cream pretty easily! And a food processor too if need be!

The beauty with juice is that you can't really get it wrong - add fruits until you get the taste you like :) ! In this case we could match colours for the berry juice in the Pokethlons or just add in colouring's at the end (artificial or natural either or)

And I am working on an anything ice cream recipe for high speed blenders - so long as I can flavour milk intensely enough ice cream anything is possible :) !

Woah, that sh*t is cool. Book it. XD

Impo April 26th, 2016 7:06 AM

That Pokemon Cafe looks amazing! We should definitely include that in the banner!

For some recipes ideas I've been thinking of a couple!

Vanniluxe Ice Cream Cones: (Double ice cream cone, vanilla ice cream with mix ins, a rolled-wafer out the side, gummy bananas for mouths, m&ms for eyes, etc)
Pokeball Layered Smoothie: Just a banana smoothie on the bottom and banana and raspberry on the top. I could decorate a mason jar to have a line on the outside of the jar so it looks like a Pokeball)
Flowerpot Oddishes: flowerpot cake on the bottom and then a cake pop/rice krispie oddish covered in fondant and placed on top! Like it's a lil pot plant!
Flowerpot Digglets/Dugtrios: Same thing as before but a bit easier
PokePuffs: Cupcakes decorated into the shape of Pokepuffs
Poffins: Dyed sweet mochi balls (possibly altered to have poffin flavours (sour/spicy/sweet/bitter/dry )
On April Fools: Donuts (rice cakes)

the list goes on! I need to start baking again *sigh*

Pebbles April 26th, 2016 1:37 PM

i thought it looked cool too and it suits the article well doesn't it, especially pikachu displayed like that haha
alright i will incl that photo and use it as background for the banner
i could not find any other chef image except for the one above from pokemon games, is that ok? not sure if it is going to be great because the image is rather on the small side

Any of these sounds good to me for the article series name

I agree with that Pokemon Cafe being the background image.

I don't feel the chef from the games should be included - it's fitting but I'd say the cafe banner being in the background would suffice. I also don't feel we really need text naming the article series in the images (there'll be text in the title and excerpt, both which always appear next to the image on Daily). However, considering we're likely using images within the article of the creations, I wonder if we could consider adding an example to each article's cover image. I.e. cafe as background, and to the side a picture of the foodstuff. For sake of a lazy, quick example using what's in Psychic's signature:

Note that requires adjusting of the image every time we make an article. Alternatively we don't stick to the same one and sometimes make a newer banner when specific foodstuffs call for it.

A couple other images I found btw - not sure I prefer any to the cafe image and one is a gif, but they can always be kept in mind to be within a relevant article.

Next on the agenda: what would be in the first article?

I made a couple of suggestions a few posts above if you didn't see them! I feel the easiest (if we wanted to go for a learning curve) would be something pokeball/voltorb inspired.

I like the idea of a Pokeball smoothie

something like that but a colors more similar to a Pokeball, and a decorated mason jar to look like the middle split of the pokeball?

I'm sure others have some great suggestions too :)

Yeah, saw those ideas, they sound good. Just wondering which one we should do first from all those suggested, haha. I don't mind going for a Pokeball Smoothie first either; will wait for more people to input first.

I don't feel we need to worry too much about a learning curve - can have some harder and simpler recipes mixed up imo.

SmokedPaprika April 27th, 2016 9:19 PM

Yes. This idea is very yes. I yes to it. Yes please.

alright then, i guess there is no need for me then here anymore? :) considering there is no need for text and adding images on top of the cafe image right? well except the outcomes of the stuff like you showed above .... i don't know if i am needed for such thing to get done?
i think your idea is good

bobandbill April 28th, 2016 4:37 AM

Oh, idk about that. I imagine you would be better for overlaying images of the food being featured onto the cafe background than I am so it doesn't look completely out of place. (Unless you have some pointers on how to do that well, haha - I imagine better cropping and positioning would be a starting point!). And what I said was merely a suggestion - I'm fine with us going that way, but someone else may have a better idea too.

Fair enough! I've got blenders and food processors, so that's not a problem. From what I've looked up, making ice cream from scratch is harder without an ice cream-maker, so I'll leave that to you, haha.

These are neat ideas! I've been thinking about other ideas, and I think we can definitely also draw inspiration from food and drinks from the Pokemon universe. That can include:

Pokeblocks
Rage Candy Bars
Casteliacones
Lumiose Galettes
Shalour Sablés

Other ideas I've got:
Tropius banana milkshakes
Litwick cupcakes
Chimchar fruit flambé
Jifflypuff yogurt cup

I found a blog that made recipes for the Old Gateau, Lava Cookie and Poffins, which I think are awesome, but I definitely think we should make our own recipes instead of reusing pre-existing ones without permission.

I've found some other neat sources of inspiration, though: Pokemon official released some Youtube videos on making Pokemon-themed food, some of which I found here. Additionally, in Japan, Pokemon Fan Magazine publishes photos of Pokemon-themed food in many issues, though I can't find a single place with all of the images, but here are a bunch!

I don't necessarily have an idea for the first article, but a Pokeball theme seems nice. Perhaps a food instead of a drink?

those are some great ideas! I didn't even think about some of those in game ones :) !

Pokeball decorated cupcakes maybe then? You can buy ready to foll fondant at most supermarkets, I'd be happy to make some!

But one thing that does concern me is photo quality, because I don't have a good camera :/

Impo May 1st, 2016 1:31 AM

I experimented with pokeball cupcakes this weekend and fondant is god awful (:
I made some cute ass roses tho.

Pokeball sugar cookies are the next on my list :) ! They sound like they would be easier to ice

bobandbill May 1st, 2016 5:09 AM

Once you've settled on a recipe to share, let us know and we can set up the thread for you to draft it! (You can always draft it in here instead however).

I suppose it only matters which one is first btw - even if multiple people write a recipe article we can always stagger when they go up on Daily. The first one probably needs an additional bit in its introduction to talk about the series, is all.

Pebbles May 1st, 2016 9:10 AM

and i will help you , if you want, with a cover/banner image for it once you got a draft article :)
