Which starter will you choose?
Now we've finally seen the starter Pokemon, which one will you pick?
Spoiler:
|
Obviously team smol birb is my first pick, but I am keen to see what the evolutions are like for the other starters - heck who knows Litten might turn into an awesome cheetah thing or something?
|
How can I choose? They all look so cute! But I think I will pick Rowlet, because I almost always pick a grass type, ever since Gold. Also, it's an owl, and I love owls. Also, its leaves look like a bow tie and bow ties are cool.
|
Water bro!
Popplio all the way! |
Just like Xander, I am officially Team Popplio.
Water-type starters always won me over in the cuteness department, even when they're derpy. I could definitely see potential as to what this thing will evolve into, especially if we have a clown influence going on here. |
I'll be picking Grass, but I might consider Water (last water starter I got was Piplup).
|
Rowlet! Adore the owl action going on here. If I get both versions (I'll try lol), I'll pick Rowlet in Moon and Litten in Sun. Popplio I'll grab later.
Currently, I enjoy all three starters. Can't wait to see what they're evolutions bring to the table. |
I'm actually so torn between Rowlet and Litten but it seems Rowlet is the popular vote haha
|
Rowlet is my favourite. Its so freaking cute, and I love grass types so much!
|
Rowlet is the only one that has my interest.
|
Litten because while the official art for all of them is nice Litten is the only one that actually looks good ingame in my opinion.
|
I'm so undecided. I mean I LOVE Rowlet. Like I love it. But I've been watching the anime lately and Popplio reminds me so much of Oshawott. I normally go fire but I really don't like cats. But I love birds. SO I GUESS it's gotta be Rowlet. For sure. Rowlet let's do this. WE'LL DEFEAT THE ALOLA REGION. I mean save.
|
I really don't know what I'm gonna pick.
They all look kinda stupid to me (sorry for being so blunt, just my honest opinion on them). It'll really depend on their evolutions. |
#TeamRowlet for the time being. Cute as hell and a unique typing. (ice weakness is an issue however) oh and the head tilt whilst facing the trainer is a nice touch.
I'll have to see the evolution to decide on the other two. |
Water is my favourite type and most consistent starter choice. Thankfully Popplio is cute af so that trend looks certain to continue.
|
I normally choose water types, but this time I believe I'm going to have to go with Rowlet! It's so cute!
|
I noticed Rowlet is leading the poll, I'm pretty sure 5th Gen was when we last had the Grass-type being the most popular upon initial reveal.
Yay for me and linking 5th Gen theories hahaha |
Grass owl is my choice easily. Even with that typing, how can I say no to that face?
|
I CAN'T CHOOSE! But, being a massive fan of Fire-Type starters, I'll be going with Litten, however, I'll be expecting eggs of the other starters...

ROWLET.
I'M GONNA NAME MINE ROWLING *CACKLES* |
I'm going with Litten just because it has that rather smug and cynical look on its face. We haven't had that kind of a starter and base form for a while. Also, that pun of a name is just beautiful. Pokemon at its finest.
|
So far I'll be taking Litten but really it depends on the final evolution.

I'll be going with #TeamPopplio as well, because I find it the most adorable between them all.

Litten and Rattata should team up nicely. Hopefully they'll spam the opening with Rattata, or general ruckus. Popplio is a bit of an awkward-sounding name, but you suppose it's meant to be the popular choice? Misty must be so enthused by all of this. Her favourite type has now become fairly popular.
|
Well, considering the fact I always start with the water type, I will be starting with Poppilo.
|
I don't even care that it's grass/flying. I like bird.
|
All three, naturally. I'll probably end up starting the game two more times on top of that so my mother can, too. We'll just trade them between our games and then trade them back when we're ready to start playing through. But the one I'll pick in my game to obey me regardless of level will depend on the evolutions...at the moment, I'd run Rowlet, because I've wanted a grass bird for aaaaages.
|
Felt like a real trainer today, as the moment I saw Rowlet I knew I wanted him.
Think of the possible nicknames too. Doctor Hoo Blathers |
omgg for the first time I absolutely cannot choose.. ;w; I love cats so Litten is extremely tempting, but the little owl and seal are both incredibly cute.
Guys, I can't decide. =( Guess I'll have to wait for evolutions, but I am slightly leaning towards Popplio. Maybe! |

I am torn between Rowlet and Litten. Rowlet is cuute and is a dual type, but Litten looks like it is going to have an awesome final evolution form.

I'm imagining a very slim-looking cat for Litten's final form, maybe looking a bit like Liepard? |
Right now I'm thinking Rowlet. It's a grass owl for crying out loud!
Popplio looks really cool too and kinda reminds me of Oshawott (which was my pick for Unova) but Rowlet is just on another level I think. Litten looks cool too and I can see why people would fall in love with it, but I don't think it's the starter for me. I think I said this when X & Y were revealed but I think it's even more true this time around. I really do like all three of these starters and it'll be interesting to see how they evolve. By the way, Popplio is such a fun name to say. :p |
I'm surprised that Litten is so unpopular. Nevertheless, I'll pick it!
|
Look if you're not picking Rowlet, you're not winning at life.
Cutest bord. |
I wanted to go with the Grass starter this time around, but Grass/Flying is an even worse typing than just Grass, so nope.
Not sure which one I'll pick between Litten and Popplio. I'll need to see evolutions first. I can't wait for Fire/Fighting cat |
Absolutely Rowlet, it's adorable. No question.
Popplio is growing on me - was meh when I first saw it, but I actually quite like it now. Litten just looks so... Bland, I guess. Meh. |
My issue with Popplio is that it's way, way too on the nose. There's no subtlety whatsoever.
Compare it with Froakie who goes with its given theme better while having its own identity. Popplio on the other hand is obvious on an obnoxious level and comes across as generic. Shame, cuz I typically like Water starters. I'm disappointed, especially coming from inspired designs like the Froakie and Piplup line. (I'll give points to Oshawott line for the samurai influence too, even if I'm not a fan of the execution) |
I'd say Rowlet as my starter.
|
I am picking Litten because FIRE CATS
|
Quote:
#TeamLitten, you voted for Litten. I swear revenge on the owl. The owl must die. |
Quote:
Poor Popplio wasn't getting many reblogs, it's like Oshawott all over again. |
|
OMG They are so adorable this is kind of wild!
I mean first you have the freaking gentleman Owl with the leaf bow-tie and that round figure and all that owly goodness Then you have a freaking Fire-type Tiger, which looks like everything I secretly wished Litleo to be...and he's even better. Then you have that derpy Clown seal Water-type cutie, doing fucking water tricks...IDK MANNN I can't vote yet. Like, My favorite type is fire so Litten, but the one that caught my eye the most was Rowlet and it's like 5th gen all over again, but them bubbles though so maybe Popplio...GOD DAMNNNN choices! |
I came across a post on Tumblr that is comparing the markings on Litten's head to the symbol of Satan. No wonder why I'm speculating it will become a Dark-type.
|
#TeamPopplio. Looks extremely similar to a fakemon I saw on deviantart a while ago and absolutely adored. Barring some terribly designed evolutions (or some ridiculously awesome third stage owl/cat) I'll be going with the best seal Pokemon :]
|
Popplio is my favorite! I love how derpy it is and the fact that it uses water balloons as a battle strategy. Fingers crossed that we can teach it Ice Beam XD
|
Rowlet for the moment, wasn't blown away with the starters, but probably warn up to them.
|
It's harsh choosing only 1 of these greatly designed pokemon...
I would like Rowlet but seeing as this is a too much water region,I have to go with Popplio. It is certainly one of the cutest water starters since forever ago. |

If Popplio is gonna end up part Ice you could potentially get an Ice type while you're still playing the first half of the game for the first time. (no one picked Amaura)
Which means it's not gonna happen. Because Ice types are too good or something. |
Water Pokemon bias is still in me, so I'm going with Poppolio in my first play through. I'll also go with Rowlet not only because it's cute, but as a Fly slave.
|
I'm torn. At first glance, Rowlet was the clear one because Litten was odd looking (those whiskers are such a turn off) with a horrible design and Popplio was just too silly.
I usually make my decision after seeing the evolutions since the first stage (basic stage?) is the one they spent the least amount of time in. That said, if I get Sun and Litten evolves into a quadruped tiger. I think the matchup of training a kitten to that form throughout a journey and face against a Legendary lion would be epic. Definitely has a meaningful adventure type of feeling. Popplio might be the same for Moon depending on his design because that Legendary bat is quite scary and I would love to face it with a clown seal, match that dark monster of the night with a clown. Rowlet, as of right now, is my clear choice, though. On top of that, I always have a difficult time picking a flyer for each generation and having my starter be part flying would take that choice away. That thing is both adorable and cute (and I hate bowties). |
Just the fact that the seal pokemon that currently exist (Seel, Dewgong, Spheal, Sealeo, and Walrein) are all Water/Ice really turns me off to Popplio being the same. I feel like Water/Psychic could be possible with its clown theme and Mr. Mime being related to circus and what not. Obviously it's a long shot but maybe in a couple months I'll be linking people back to this post because I predicted it right!
|
Gonna wait before picking since in XY the cutest starter ended up with some weird 2nd evolution, Delphox is not as appealing as Fennekin and Braixen. And the less appealing starter had the most badass 2nd evo. Chesnaught looked weird.
|
Currently on team Popplio unless one of Litten's evolutions get leaked. I've picked water for almost every new batch of games so it's almost an obligation.
|
Probably Rowlet or Litten. They both look cool.
|
I'll go with grass. I want to be different this time around
|
I'll probably choose Rowlet out of them but might go for Litten in my second play. The other one looks really ugly and unappealing.
|
Litten is a baby grumpy cat pokemon.. so thats mine... unless rowlett gets a gryphon evolution
|
Litten!
Whoever didn't pick this will be litten! :D |
I always end up choosing the grass type in my first gameplay.
And now, I am even more excited! I LOVE Rowlet! |
Quote:
I mean I didn't add him to my team but that's beside the point! That makes me wonder with a region based on Hawaii how are they going to incorporate ice types into the region and not have it look completely ridiculous. I'm surprised nobody has brought up the possibility of Popplio becoming a Water/Fairy type. Considering we already have two clown-ish Pokemon that are part Fairy. (Snubbull and Mr. Mime) |
I'm really on the fence between Rowlet and Popplio. I like them both! I think I'll have to wait for their final evolutions to be revealed before I decide. I can totally see Rowlet evolving into a Griffin and Popplio maybe going the Samurott route.
|
I'm choosing Litten for Sun and Rowlet for Moon since I'm getting both games.
|
I'm really drawn to Litten's design and the idea of a fire cat, but Rowlet is just so adorable I don't know how I'm going to choose any other.
|
Litten because I like black cats. Since it looks like a tiger and will most likely evolve into one (carrying on the fire starter trend of being an animal in the Chinese zodiac), I think I'll nickname mine Taiga.
|
Upon seeing the starters, I immediately got a positive reaction for Rowlet. I haven't chose a grass starter for my first playthrough since gen 3. I generally like all 3, although Popplio I don't like as much as the other two. I had planned on staying away from spoilers til the games come out, but I may check to see if their evolutions leak soon and make a final decision.
|
I want to say the owl but last generation I was leaning towards Froakie and things just didn't end up turning out how I imagined (Greninja's tongue scarf kinda ruined it...). In gen 5 I also felt that what were an amazing set of starters at their first stage transformed into a pretty crappy set by their third stage. As a result I'm gonna be waiting until I see the final stages before I make a final decision, and I won't just be basing it on the visuals either. Even if the Water starter is extremely cool visually, if it's got a really generic movepool and boring stats then I won't be very excited about using it.
As long as there's even one starter I'm excited about using when we know everything about them then I'll be happy, but based on last generation I am a little bit pessimistic. |
I knew I was gonna take the Grass starter even before they were revealed and I'm very pleased to be Team Rowlet.
After seeing them, my second choice is definitely Litten. And you'd have to pay me to get me to start with the water one... |
Really have to see 2nd evos before I make my decision. I can imagine Litten turning into a Fire Jaguar which would be so cool.. Popplio is a water type and they always look the best to me.. Rowlet is a BOMBASS GRASS OWL.. I honestly love all three starters which is a first for me I have no idea how I am going to decide..
|
Like previous Pokemon games, grass-type starter. (Rowlet)
|
The starters so far haven't hit home with me too much. Popplio definitely is the cutest atm for me. I'm mostly hoping it doesn't look goofy/funny on it's 2nd and 3rd forms though. So my answer for now will be Popplio <3
|
Team Popplio 100%.
Here is what my general thoughts are: STARTERS I think it is refreshing how the colors of the starters are mixing it up a bit as well. We have a mostly tan grass starter and mostly black fire starter. Though, part of me wishes there were most of the original colors present, it is also maybe a refreshing change. It's hard not to notice that these starters are so different from previous starters and is definitely a break in the mold. POPPLIO I LOVE Popplio!!!! I think I found my new overall favorite starter! It's literally the cutest Pokemon I have ever seen. It has never been such an easy choice picking my starting pokemon. Just look at its little ball nose, cone nose, fin-paws, frilled color, and little smile! I seriously want one right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evolution: Please do not get a "tough" evolution, I will be happy with a cute circus clown or an elegant circus performer. Though, I do see some form of physical performer, and therefore I predict (maybe water/fighting). LITTEN This is an interesting direction for a fire starter. It's pretty hilarious how Litten (which is an amazing name) has a little fire spike when it attacks similar to when cats hiss or are nervous. This is a bad little kitty for sure. (fire/dark typing confirmed). Evolution: Is a Cereberus evolution too much to ask?!?! The coloring makes it pretty obvious it will evolve into a fire/dark type, but I think of Cereberus particularly with fire and darkness. ROWLET It is a funny little gizmo. I like his little bowtie and blank expression. As the grass quill pokemon I think he is a studious pokemon that will take little notes on his bark. I love the idea of a grass owl because of "paper" books and quill pens go well together. This is quite a different approach to a grass type. Edit: Did not see Rowlet's typing! |
Rowlet aka the Grass starter is still leading by a landslide... I have a fear that Team Rowlet may be divided if the evolutions are a letdown. It was exactly what happened for Team Fennekin in the Kalos starter race, it lost members when Delphox came out.
|
You can't mess up an owl design. The little guy has a lot of promise.
Do me good GF and give him a beard for his final evo. This series is lacking in bearded Pokemon. |

I'm really indecisive.
Rowlet is very impressive - it's impossible not to love an owl. It is also so refreshing. And the fact that it is the flying type already makes a Fly Hm, leaving a vacant place in the team. Very useful. On the other hand, Litten is very cool, and it seems that when it evolve, it will be a tiger Dark type. Popplio is ... Okay. But it's not my first choice, for now. I do not know, it reminds me too Oshawott. But as for now we are only taking into account appearances, with the revelation of evolutionary lines, my opinion may change. I hated Froakie with passion when I saw him for the first time. Today, Greninja is my favorite Kalos starter. So definitely I will have to see the full line for me to decide. |

Grass Owl has a cute bow tie, I'll give it that. But it's not the best animal.
You know which animals are the best? Black cats. You know which one is a black cat? Fire Cat. Fire Cat is a black cat. |
While I like the base forms of the three starters, there was only one that made me react out loud. And that reaction was "OH MY GOD IT'S A KITTY!"
Cats are awesome, and Litten is no exception. It attacks by flaming hairballs. As a cat owner, there is no more frightening object than the rogue hairball. Wrap one in flames, and it's even more scary. Besides, I always tend to lean more towards the fire starters. (Only exception was Generation 5.) The final forms might sway my decision in a different way, but right now Litten is definitely my choice. |
Rowlet, and I'll name it Hedwig. If I got Litten, I'd name it Jiji after the cat in Kiki's Deluvery Service, but I'll have to see Popplio's evolutions before I consider that. Which is a shame since I usually love water starters.
Why couldn't we just have gotten a dolphin starter? |
Litten seems pretty lit...
|
After seeing people flock to Rowlet and Litten, I think I've decided to go for Popplio. It'll make trading less of a pain... although I'm planning to get both versions eventually so it probably wont matter much in the end.
|
Rowlet's face is also a Venn diagram. I wonder if that's just a design element or it if hints at anything. Two circles overlapping is a lot like what happens in an eclipse. I wonder if the circles will move closer together as it evolves.

http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/KDUAAOSw~oFXJesB/s-l225.jpg Too much Pingu as a child... so not that one. Probably Litten, but possibly Rowlet. Not too impressed with the starters this time around to be honest. |
I noticed Popplio is officially last, and I know what it's like when my fave starter was once the least popular... *thinks of Oshawott*
|
I like them all, but I have to go with that cute lil' owl for my starter. I wonder if his final evo will be a flower owl. Hibiscus are very much associated with Hawaii, right?
|
Quote:
Which, I mean, sounds decent. Hopefully they're not just relying on secondary typings to make battling with these particularly interesting, but also have some novel battle functions that they can display, rather than the general multiplication of attacks. Still, at least Popplio is sticking by its guns. It might grow on people if they get the game. |
I'll go with Popplio because it feels right - he may even become my fave starter if he proves to be a good partner in the game. I'd be really, really happy if it evolved into a Psychic type, and I guess there are small chances, but fairy type is much more likely. A pity.
The other two are pretty great too, though - especially that lil' owl thingie. I just can't wait for the haters to start hating and preaching their disappointment, 'cause that's always fun to watch. |
Litten for me. I love my fire types and that Litten looks awesome! Kind of similar to Houndoom with that tail.
