With how small the roster of new pokemon is Im actually suprised I did manage to find almost an entire team of mons I actually like. If its alola pokemon only I'd add Mudsdale and alola nintetails instead.

I can report that Growlithe is catchable on the first island (Melemele) so it's going to be available relatively early. Silvally if I recall is postgame-only so you'll likely need a filler option until then.

Sabrewulf238 November 13th, 2016 12:04 PM

I have an idea for a team I'm likely to use.

Spoiler:

1. Decidueye (Grass/Ghost)
2. Drampa (Normal/Dragon)
3. Toxapex (Poison/Water)
4. Golisopod (Bug/Water)
5. Mimikyu (Ghost/Fairy)
6. ???

Drampa seems to be pretty late in the game though (it's first found at level 40+ I think) so I might end up trying to trade for one and breeding it when I get to the second island. There's next to no way I'm not adding a Drampa to my team.

The thing is even though I have two overlapping types in Ghost and Water, according to the team building website I don't have more than 2 Pokemon weak to any particular type. I just checked my X team and it turned out half my team were weak to ground, but it didn't harm me that much in the story so I'll probably be fine in Moon. I'd rather have some more diversity sure but I also really love the designs of these guys so I'm not sure what to do. I might think about a team that doesn't have type overlap.

The last slot is probably going to go to a Melemele Pokemon that I end up adding to my team early on to bulk it out a bit. No real idea who that will be though. I definitely don't want any more overlapping types though.

Excuse me, but I can't see your team.

The ones in the image are Litten, Rockruff, Drampa,Turtonator, Alolan Exegcutor, Oranguru. (in order of preference)

When I did the picture, Licanrock wasn't revealed. I'll choose Moon, so my Licanrock will be midnight form. >:)

Thank you for letting me know, I cant wait to play through this game with Growlithe/Arcanine now. Silvally is understandable to be late game, was kind of afraid that was going to be true. Guess I'll be sticking to Leafeon or one of the new alola forms.

Notes to consider regarding Grubbin, Jangmo-o and Crabrawler lines (plus Mareanie being extremely rare): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMEjNrG7qbw

As a result, I had to change my team around once again. Hopefully this one will be final.

Due to Crabrawler (along with Charjabug) evolving at specific locations don't come in until near the end of the main story, and the fact I still wanted a Fighting-type, I decided to go with Bewear as a backup plan should Crabrawler be crippled for most of the game. Fluffy will make it more susceptible to Fire moves but lessened damage from physical moves is a neat trade-off, and it's cute so I'm okay with it. Most of my team will resist its Fighting weakness anyway while Raichu can deal with Flying and Lycanroc does get Crunch for coverage.

This means my team will still be finished at Akala Island which is good progress.

kingdenas November 13th, 2016 2:35 PM

Wait, Charjabug only evolves at a specific place
Spoiler:
IN THE LAST ISLAND??
.

.... that is kind of disappointing :/ I think I'm going to have to change my team :c

I know there's a place later in the game with wild Charjabug (the datamine uncovered that btw) but other than that, what you're forced to do is catch Grubbin at the start, dump it in the PC and not bring it back to the team for evolution until you get to that specific location in Poni Island, assuming you don't want to be stuck with a Charjabug with useless stats for 90% of the main story which means you'll also miss out on Vikavolt's best level-up moves.

Move Relearner isn't until very late-game either, and Heart Scales can only be easily farmed in the postgame from what I heard. Game Freak is clearly making the early Bug undesirable with a dick move like this, which is why I despise location-based evolutions.

icycatelf November 13th, 2016 3:10 PM

I've seen the leak, but I still prefer the ones officially revealed so far. These are likely what I'll be using during my initial play-though:

- Primarina (since I had a dream in which I chose Popplio)
- Midday Lycanroc
- Mimikyu or Lurantis (depends on which I prefer using in battle)
- Minior (or Cosmog since I get a feeling it'll be forced on us)
- Alolan Raichu
- Alolan Sandslash (my favorite design this Gen.)

I'll probably keep my main team in AS (see signature) for the post-game, but I might try for a Shiny Alolan Sandslash and replace either Glaceon or Mothim... so hard to choose. Dx

Damn, that kinda messes up my plans. I was already put off by the level 40 evolution, but this? I was really hoping to have my team fully prepped by the third island but now I may have to shuffle them around.

kingdenas November 13th, 2016 3:19 PM

Also, I was wondering... I already know Alolan Ninetales and Alolan Sandslash are version exclusives, and besides Lycanrock and the monkeys, I don't know the other versions exclusives. Anyone has a list of them?? I just want to see if I can get Lurantis on Moon version xD

Keep in mind the two Ultra Beasts who appeared in the new CoroCoro are version exclusives as well.

kingdenas November 13th, 2016 3:40 PM

Thank you Hikari :) I'm glad Lurantis isn't version exclusive ^^

CountessGardevoir November 13th, 2016 3:41 PM

Mine will probably be: Primarina/Tsareena/Gardevoir/Gallade/Silvally/Lunala

MaximumVegetto November 13th, 2016 4:06 PM

This could easily be my team, but... as i travel through Hawaii things can change, the sure thing is Incineroar is my Starter!!

You seem to have a problem with Ground-types here and while Toxapex and Dhelmise do have type advantages against Ground, remember that you are well-exposed to the type and that can sometimes be a bad thing.

Tapu Lele is also postgame-only as far as being catchable goes, so you'll have to substitute it until then. Just make sure not to stack up another Ground weakness.

No problem, because my own planned team for Moon is very Ground-weak anyway but I will be having both a Water and Grass-type to deal with that.

Woow... i'm gonna' try another challenge, not being defeated, i just lost my mind completely, but i'll try it!!

GOOD LUCK Hikamaru!!

MaSterBarth November 13th, 2016 8:10 PM

I'm still going to use Vikavolt because it's my new favorite electric type period.

I went back over my team, and it's mainly ice and fire weak but as resistances in all but ghost. I just really like this team.

classiccartoonsftw November 14th, 2016 2:34 AM

I'm sooo disappointed in Vikavolt now. I mean, making it a special attacker instead of a physical attacker is bad enough, but they also made it slow and now they made it evolve really late into the game??? Crabrawler evolving so late is also disappointing, and Jangmo-o coming so late is slightly understandable, but still a disappointment. As for Mareanie, I'm no stranger to using rare Pokemon, since I've used a Lapras in Pokemon White 2.

I read a post about that on Tumblr. You have to encounter a Corsola and then sometimes when it calls for help it'll call a Mareanie instead by accident.

Though I was looking at the encounter tables and a lot of them had Mareanie at 1% but at least one of them had Mareanie at 10% so I think it'll still be ok.

Mareanie is one I'm hoping to pick up on the first island.

By the way, when do you get the fishing rod? Is it on the first island?

Should this be in spoilers?

Okay, this is my final revision. After learning this gen may take awhile to get through, I decided to op out some of the Pokemon I really wanted to use. I do plan on evolving Salandit, but I didn't want to post a spoiler because I'm nice. The only possible change I see happening is opting someone out for Mareanie, but since she isn't a version exclusive I will use her in Moon.

Marshstomp2k16 November 14th, 2016 10:11 AM

Thanks to the tip that Hikamaru posted about location evolutions i was able to put together my final team for Sun :) I was able to cover most weaknesses, but any tips i would love to hear!
At the 1st stage evolution i am planning Litten- Munchlax- Pikachu- Wimpod- Morelull- Mudbray! After the main story i will replace Munchlax for Type:Null - Morelull for Tapu Bulu - & Mudbray for Gible/ Jangmo-o

Iceshadow3317 November 14th, 2016 10:24 AM

I actually really like my team that I have come up with. I will probably use more than what I list, but this is definitely my main team. I also kinda wanted to use Alolan Sandscrew since I never use those pokemon, but it isn't in sun.

I still haven't learned all the new names, so forgive me.

Spoiler:

Main:
Decidueye (Grass/Ghost)
Lycanroc (Midday) (Rock)
Kommo-o (Dragon/Fighting)
Crabrawler's Evo (Fighting/Ice)
Mudsdale (Ground)
Vikavolt (Bug/Electric)

Rotation Team: (Rotating as in changing Team between PC)
Alolan Ninetails (Ice/Fairy)
Passimian (Fighting)
Wimpod's Evo (Water/Bug)
Saladite's Evo (Poison/Fire) (If I can find a female)

blue November 14th, 2016 10:25 AM

Kinda wanna use Toxapex as a substitute for Vikavolt, I've heard you can catch its pre-evolution on the first island?
