(Video Tutorial) How to Level Up in Pokemon Go

A guide on how to level up easily in Pokemon Go! I've seen a lot of people asking how to level up in Pokemon Go, so I made this video to help spread information on how you can level up easily! If I missed anything, let me know!

I'm not sure how this works on non-Android phones, but Aiden (circuit) told us earlier today that if you go to Google Maps > Offline Areas and download your city/area, Pokemon Go will drain less battery and data. :)

Unfortunately doesn't work. :(

dad July 11th, 2016 7:57 PM

i found these two Forbes articles extremely helpful:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2016/07/09/ten-things-i-wish-i-knew-when-i-started-pokemon-go/#143f082c1d8a

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2016/07/11/i-have-finally-figured-out-nearby-tracking-in-pokemon-go/#419d498f4a85

the first is on pokemon go in general and the other is on tracking.

This apparently is legit. I would have liked to known about it from the start, haha. My fault for not searching the web before, and jumping into a game completely unprepared c:

Just a bit of a time saver but when you’ve hit a PokeStop and spun the sign you can just press the X at the bottom to collect all of the items, you don’t have to tap each bubble individually.

LegendaryMohawk July 12th, 2016 8:43 AM

I thought this was meant to be tips and tricks? Most of the above, if not all, are about levelling up... so let me share a few actually tips to help at all stages of the game.

There are 3 different circles when facing a wild pokemon; green (easy), orange (medium) and red (you guest it, hard). So pay attention.

Next is the curve ball. A real trick shot that will land most your balls in the gutter. Takes a while to get the hang of but does produce more exp and an easier catch rate. To actually preform it, tap and hold the ball and start spinning your finger until you see the ball sparkle, then throw it in the opposite direction to what you spun the ball... obviously at the pokemon in a curved manor.

Next up is those little footprints, 3? 1? 2? What do they mean?! Its how far away that pokemon is. 3 is 300 m and so on. What if there isnt any?! Then just tap the pokemon and like God it share appear!

Pokestops reset after 5 minutes... Need I say more?

At each 5th level you will get bigger and better items from the fore mentioned pokestops, 5 - potions and revives and berries, 10 - super potions and goes on getting better. Along with the free stuff you get at every level up.

Theres a power saver mode! (Settings > tick the checky box)

That little shield in the top right of the shop is the DEFENDER BONUS. NOT a daily bonus like most think. The more gyms you are in the better the reward... each day (which is why people thought it was a daily bonus).

Always incubate eggs as soon as you can, because 5km (3miles) is a long way.

Transfer those low CP pokemon to get special candy for that pokemon... obviously if you have others of it or you might not find it again and have useless candy. You only get +1 but every little helps when levelling a pidgy.

Oh and doesnt matter what you chose for a starter, the first 150 pokemon are available, meaning no hard choices any more guys!

Have fun and hope I helped!

I just found this one yesterday and loved it! lol such a simple thing.

EXP boosting:
Don't just evolve Pokémon one at a time whenever you can. Save them all and bulk evolve with a Lucky Egg active. If you're at the point where you have a dozen Beedrills or Pidgeots, continue to catch Pidgeys and Weedles and use the excess candy you accumulate to bulk evolve them, then transfer the secondary stage.

Just between yesterday and this morning, I'm sitting on ~140 Rattata candies with 8 Rattatas waiting in the wings. At this very moment, I can evolve five Rattatas. With a Lucky Egg active, that would be 5,000 EXP right off the bat. That adds up fast across different types of Pokémon.

Gym Runs:
If you're going to rely on "play-to-win" methods to obtain coins (rather than pay-to-win) for purchasing consumables, then you're going to have to build an economy. Each day (usually at the end of the day after work), I would gather a few friends on my team to initiate a "gym run," meaning we drive around town taking out and leveling up gyms. The more people we have, the faster the process and generally the longer the gyms will last.

As soon as the run is complete, which in my case could range from 3-5 gyms, turn in the rewards immediately at the shop. In hotspots, gyms don't tend to last long at all. Even level 6+ gyms can go down in less than an hour if challengers are coordinated with high level teams. This obviously varies depending on the size of your town/city. Since I'm in a densely populated metropolitan area, every gym is highly contested and exchanges hands multiple times every hour. That's why I pick times when fewer people are active and groups of us execute a fast takeover while the window of opportunity is available.

Esper July 13th, 2016 9:02 AM

I don't know if this is any good for getting great amounts of experience or anything, but I've noticed that I have a lot of revives and potions sitting around so I got together with a few friends who were on different teams and we went to a gym that wasn't in a busy place and began trading control of it back and forth. I'd take it down and then put something weak in and they're take it down and do the same. We got like 150 exp each time and only had to sometimes use a revive or potion that we had too many of anyway. No walking around required. The only worry is if other people wander by and snatch the gym up in the few seconds between handing it over.

Unless there's some elaborate physical mechanic associated with it, it doesn't work.

I've tried tapping it when it flies by the Pokémon, I've tried tapping it midair before it makes contact, I've tried tapping it as it rolls to the side or into the distance. I've even tried swiping up, down, left and right. The Poké Ball counter will decrease regardless.

Even worse, by attempting to recover the Poké Ball, you risk accidentally tossing out the next ball in queue.

darn :( well that's good to know that it's false so others don't waste pokeballs trying to retrieve them.

Yeah, I too have tried this and it doesn't seem to work.

Unless I'm just that physically uncoordinated, there's no way to recollect your Poké Balls after you throw them.

Take note of where Pokemon spawn on the map if you live in a residential area/somewhere not very crowded. Those locations (for me, at least), seem to never change, and continuously respawn every 30 or 60 minutes.

Still testing it, but this way if a strong Pokemon/one I haven't seen before pops up on my map I can just walk straight to it

I've been using it to track tough Pokemon, because a lot of tough pokemon come to one particular spot in my neighbourhood :) !

I've also noticed that some spots seem to have repeats show up. There's a bridge that always seems to have a Psyduck or Magikarp spawn at the exact same point. There's also a house in my neighborhood that seems to be a fairly common place for things to appear. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was normal for the game, but then again it could be coincidence.

Trick to capture a Pokémon in one go

There's apparently a trick to guarantee a pokémon capture.

You have to hold on to the pokeball and throw it right after the Pokémon does it's happy emote.
For example: After Squirtle did his peace sign. And some other Pokémon jump upwards when they do their emotes.

The source is down here on reddit (LINK)

I haven't really had a chance to test it but I will when I go out again as there's no Pokémon around my house at the moment

I heard that to find what direction a pokemon is you select it in the pokemon nearby window so its the only one showing then scroll your screen in a circle slowly and when the compass needle is pointing in the direction of the selected pokemon it will flash a green light, i tried this and i got it to work, (with my wifi at home, my phone is too bad to process the signal fast enough on 4g though)

kidkandee July 15th, 2016 10:01 PM

This is how tracking works.

Go into tracking and select whichever pokemon you want to track/find, regardless of the number of footprints.
Either use a compass unless you already know which direction is north.
Face north with your phone extended out in front of you while you are looking at the screen.
Press the compass needle on your screen.
Your character should now also be facing north, if not press the compass needle again.
Slowly move/rotate your body either clockwise or counter clockwise while holding your phone in front of you.
Your character should move at the same speed you are moving.
As soon as the tracking box in the bottom right flashes/blinks then stop moving.
That is the direction that the pokemon you want to track is in.
Walk in that direction.
3 footprints mean you will be walking further than 2 or 1 footprint.
The exact distance that you need to walk in corelation to the number of footprints may be found on any number of sites, I don't recal it off the top of my head...

hope that helps :)

Question about exp boosting: What's a lucky egg? You're saying if I don't evolve a Pokemon as soon as I can but catch a couple more so I have a bunch of them, then activate the lucky egg and then evolve the pokemon? Should I keep let's say rattatas and not transfer them for candy in order to focus on evolving one of them, or have several evolved rattatas? What should I do?

Question about the gym runs: so you gather actual people in 3d who are in the same team as you and you drive to gyms trying to take them over? Or is it like a team you join within the pokémon go app?

A lucky egg is an item that doubles the XP you receive for one half-hour. So, if you save up a bunch of Rattatta instead of transferring them, you could then evolve them all at once. Evolving Pokémon nets you quite a bit of experience, and doing so while having a lucky egg initiated will double that. It's a nice little trick to get your trainer level up; I've done it a few times. Just be aware that lucky eggs don't come around that often, so use them wisely. Unless you plan on purchasing them.

What he means by taking down gyms with a team, is to physically round up a few friends who are on your team (Valor, Instinct, Mystic) and systematically wittle away the opposing gym's prestige. It's a good technique if you have the people and the time. There's currently no option to rally people within the app itself.

You get them for leveling up; they are not rewards at Pokéstops, unfortunately.

As long as people aren't teleporting all over the world in unbelievable time frames, it should be fine to spoof. It would also be helpful for people in rural areas with literally nothing there for them.

Pokémon Go on Nexus 7 with Wi-Fi

When you view Pokémon Go in the Google Play store on a Nexus 7 tablet (2012 or 2013), it says that it's not supported. Just letting people know if they don't already that the app does work. Download the APK for somewhere reputable (I got it off APKMirror), manually install it, and as far as I can tell it works fine.

If you're in an area with good Wi-Fi, like a college campus, you don't really need a smartphone or data plan either. I've found a few Pokémon nearby already, and apparently there's a gym not far off. I did not expect to be this excited over catching a Pidgey, but it's different when it's literally on the ground in front of you. :)

Pokemon GO Mythbuster: Egg Hatching Ceiling Fan Hack

After watching a few videos of people claiming that you can use a ceiling fan as a "hack" to hatch eggs, without ever moving yourself or leaving your home, I decided to put the claim to the test!

Using the ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms in my house, I used electrical tape and fastened it to the end of one of the blades, and let it run at three different speeds (low, medium, high). I then checked the distance traveled after each speed was tested for 10 minutes.

Check the video out to see the result! :D

Have just seen a lot of discussion about the time of day related to Pokémon sightings - apparently there is no correlation at all between the time and what kind of Pokémon will spawn. Zubat and Gastly are day-dwellers too! What was interesting however is that apparently there are many spots where a certain species of Pokémon will spawn every single day at the same time. Look out for these!

Jefries July 23rd, 2016 1:11 PM

Great news guys some Data Miners found some pretty nice stuff. So here is the link And this are the facts that you will find:
The Trainer Level Cap is 40.
Egg's cap at Level 20, so if you get an Egg at Level 37 it'll still hatch at the same quality as if you were level 20.
Wild Pokemon cap at Level 30, meaning after Level 30 everyone will find the same max CP Pokemon and it'll be a matter of spending the candy and stardust to upgrade them to your level's cap based on their CP arc.
There is an achievement/badge rank above gold.
Curveballs and Accurate Throws (Nice, Great, Etc) have been confirmed as helping with the capture chance of a Pokeball throw.
There may be future Incubators that reduce the amount of kilometers needed before they hatch. (There is an incubator called "distance" in the code)
Moves have an Accuracy and a Critical Hit Rate.
Each unique Pokemon has it's own Capture and Flee rate.
Move Damage may go up with Trainer Level.
Pokemon do become harder to catch as you level up.
Mewtwo, Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno are Legendary.
Mew is Mythic.
Farfetch'd is out there... somewhere. As is Ditto.
The Charge Meter is filled 0.5 for each 1 HP of damage dealt. This means a super effective move that does more damage will charge the special attack faster - that is actually really important to know.
To level from 39 to 40 takes FIVE MILLION EXPERIENCE, and going from 1 to 40 takes Twenty Million. On my best day I can get about one hundred thousand exp, maybe 125k. So that's like 3-4 months to go from 39 to 40. Won't be seeing that any time soon!
Pokemon have a base Attack, Defense and Stamina (HP) - thus they do not have a Attack and Special Attack stat like in the 3DS games.
Dragonite has the strongest base attack for non-legends, at 250.
MewTwo has a base attack of 284.
Moltres has the highest base attack of the three legendary birds.
Articuno has the highest base defense of the three.
Zapdos is almost as high as Moltres in base attack but is likely lower due to Type Advantage.
Pokemon have an evolution modifier AND a HP modifier when they evolve both CP and HP go up a set multiplier.
Defending Pokemon at a Gym attack every 1.5 seconds.
The Master Ball is in the game, no clue where it is found.
The Legendary Pokemon do have a spawn rate - BUT - they have no capture rate, could this mean they require a Master Ball?
STAB is present in the game, giving a 25% Bonus to an attack move. STAB stands for "Same Type Attack Bonus" and means if a Grass Pokemon uses a Grass move it will hit harder than if a Ground Pokemon used the same Grass move. This is a big deal confirmation.

It's not possible to select Pokemon in the radar tab anymore, buddy. Not since the Sightings update a few days ago.

To access things like your Pokémon menu or item bag quicker, just hold down the Pokéball icon when you press it to bring up the menu and then drag in the direction of the button you want to press - it'll automatically press it for you and save you literally half of a second!

Hmm ok that's very interesting to hear - I'll try this out tonight and see if I can get the same results! What exactly do you do in order to achieve this?

I've been testing this extensively since you told me about it and I just can't for the life of me get it to work. I can see the animation you're talking about but I just don't get any balls back. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong or what the story is but it's irritating!

Can anyone else get this to work?

Tapping and holding on the missed, rolling Pokeball triggers neither a "coming back" animation nor an increase in number for me.

Also. I've noticed that an idle phone will stop updating the Sightings list. Which makes me wonder is it is tied to the accelerometer or GPS movement or something. Confirm/deny, anyone?

Still haven't been able to get this to work either!

Here's the trick to never miss a throw:

Pull the pokeball to the edge of the screen. Simply swipe up and the ball will automatically curve back to hit the pokemon.

This is perfect. Keep in mind doing this is at the cost of NOT getting a curveball, Nice, or Great, so it's more likely that the 'mon will escape. Still. A good tradeoff.

More tips from that YouTuber that I find useful:
How to throw a curveball in a quick, fluid motion. Doing this helps it become muscle memory, which will help you be more accurate and time it better.

How to see attacks coming and dodge each one. He explains the telegraphs, and the timing for how often they attack and how many of your own attacks you can safely get in in between.

Useful shortcuts and tricks in the menus. Not essential, but saves time and hassle.

More complex stats explained: Level, IVs, CP, how they work and and how to determine them. I found this easier to understand than anyone else explaining these stats.

A common question we get, Should I evolve or power up my Pokemon or evolve it first? Also some advice on who to not bother pouring candies into. Summary at 9:50 mark.

Ok, so I was casually checking Pokémon Go like anyone would, and I go to my eggs and see that an egg has been completed, but the egg wasnt hatching. It said 5k/5k. Then when I tapped on another 5k egg that I had, it switched to a 10k egg. Not only that, but instead of saying walk to hatch this egg, it said something along the lines of "to hatch this egg, you must feed it butter." Now I dont know if my account got hacked or something, but I do believe that this is going to be a potential new feature to the game that was somehow leaked. Everything turned back to normal a few minutes later and I got a Male Nidoran out of the egg, but with this experience I had, I do believe that this will be a new feature in another update later in the game's development. I dont know of anyone else that has experienced this, but let me know if you saw something similar.

Ok, but I should warn people that they should NOT use Pokemon Go hack tool. They are all FAKE, and actually want to get profit and usernames. Should they get aware for this. They should look at this site.

By the way, is this in the topic? I'm feared that this post will be flagged.

I've figured out that while playing it's best to refresh the game every 15-20 minutes, so that the map refreshes, because it can lag and not pick up changes if you keep the game running without a restart for an hour+. In my case it's hard not too, because after it's been open / idle for too long, mine will usually freeze and I have no choice.
