New Feature: Powerful Moves
We now know that a new feature is new Poweful Moves.

We don't know any moves, but Pikachu seems to learn some type of Electric Breath Move. http://i.imgur.com/VtkjZfx.png http://i.imgur.com/KNJrPAD.png |
Perhaps as your friendship grows with a Pokemon so does the power of certain moves? I don't exactly know what they mean by that but it looks like we're getting some pretty powerful moves. Professor Kukui specialises in Pokemon Moves so maybe it has something to do with that?
|
Every generation Pokemon seem to be getting stronger so this isn't a surprise to me really. Also, I may be wrong but that Pikachu seems to be using Charge Beam maybe?

I am also thinking this attack can only be used once or requires a build up. Say, it needs 3 rounds before it is ready. Once 3 rounds have passed, you can use it, or hold off. But once you use it, you have to wait 3 more rounds. Also remember that the only thing confirmed is that they are a new feature. You you happen to find more info about it, please do post it here. |
I just thought it meant that, like with every new generation, there are new moves that tend to be stronger than the moves of old? Also some moves have their base powers buffed for balance, and older Pokémon gain access to new moves (example: Delphox got access to the Dazzling Gleam TM in ORAS, but not previously in XY).
I mean, they already confirmed that Core Enforcer flat-out erases the Ability of any Pokémon that's already moved. And Thousand Arrows negates the Flying-Type and Levitate immunity to Ground moves for an undisclosed number of turns. Those seem pretty powerful, if you ask me! |

It would make little sense not to have a new feature based on what the Prof. Specializes in. Or a large amount of something. Oak studied relation ships with pokemon Elm studied breeding (Breeding was first introduced) Birch studied Habitats. Rowan was evolution. (There was a ton of evolutions added) Juniper was much like Oak. Sycamore studied Mega Evolution (First Gen for Megas) Kukui studes pokemon attacks. It also says, More powerful than ANY seen before. That to me says the moves are extremely powerful because they are more powerful than even the hyper beam attacks and what not. |
I'm like 99% sure that "you’ll discover moves more powerful than any seen before" is just marketing buzz words. Companies like to do that.
I'm pretty sure they once said during the ORAS pre-release days something along the lines of "explore a whole new world" despite ORAS not featuring a new region or even just making Hoenn significantly different. I am expecting more powerful shit in general though, just not necessarily a powerful new mechanic, since power creep's been a thing for a while now and I doubt they'll stop. They've already revealed some strong stuff like Core Enforcer and Dazzle, and I fully expect (but do not exactly want) at least one 'mon on Mega Rayquaza levels of stupid. |

I think it's going to be a Burst Attack/Final Smash type thing where you get some powerful special move you can use once per battle. Seems probable that it's related to the bracelet.
I don't agree with the "it's just meaningless marketing" thing because they also made a point to mention that the professor studies moves. And professors of each region typically study something related to some significant feature of the game. It's also accompanied with a screenshot of Pikachu that seems kind of glowy looking. It doesn't look like a normal attack. |
Somehow, I have a feeling that the developers are getting some inspiration from Dragonball.
|
I'm thinking that there will be items we need to find across Alola to power up our mon's moves. Perhaps the move levels will work similar to the skill leveling in Pokemon Shuffle.
|
On twitter, Junichi Masuda shared a post by someone that said that there might be a new element with the Pikachu picture. Element probably meaning new element of game play. If it wasn't a new element of game play, I don't think he would have shared it.

It could also be a reference to the amount of pokemon with new moves/abilities. |

And I still have to disagree with all of you sadly. I don't think it was a simple marketing line. Too much points in the direction that there is new moves. If it was just new attacks, why did they not say abilities as well? Currently I think there is too much point in my direction of being right right now. If the bracelet ends up being something else, then I will admit that it is just new attacks. But until then, I am sticking to my theory. As I said, Kukui is the Prof. of Attacks and a lot of stuff in the past 2 generations has pointed in the direction that they might make extremely powerful moves. I don't see them making new attack stronger than Hyper Beam and not have some type of cost. |
Honestly, I'm not getting my hopes up for this. Tbh this seems to me as if there's just going to be new Pokémon moves rather than have "Mega" Moves.
|
Mega moves? That'll be pretty cool. Perhaps some moves will be upgraded when Mega Evolving/Whatever else they'll introduce.
|
Also keep this in mind
http://i.imgur.com/npe3wco.jpg no it's probably not room for replacing a move because that's always been done on the regular summary screen UI and no it's also not room for its held item because there would be no reason for them to put it in the same rows as the moves instead of just reducing the rows to 4 and putting the item directly below it. Also, the held item would probably be listed in the "summary" section anyway. |
I just want to see them give Arceus a move that lets him create another universe and drop it on the opposing Pokémon's face.
|
Again, I can't see them doing this. One of the 3 factors of creating a mega evolution is balance, so if they are concerned about balance I can't see them giving some pokemon absolutly broken moves, and not giving them to other pokemon.

Imagine if it's literally true though and we get moves more powerful than explosion was in the generations where it halved the targets' defense stats. Even moves more powerful than explosion is now would be broken enough. They would need to have some really harsh side effects or really specific conditions under which they can be used.
I can foresee certain stones which can be held in battle and that pokemon gains the move contained in that stone. Maybe you can only have one stone per team. Maybe you can only activate the move once per battle. They could be moves we've already seen or even moves which can't normally be learnt without the stones. I'd like to see some powerful ghost and dark moves at >120 bp. Words can be really misleading though, especially when they're being translated from another language. This time next year we'll all be laughing at how we all thought coro coro hinted that Rockruff and the starters have a special "secret". |

I do wonder if that new disc-like move Ash Greninja was shown using in an anime preview may be related to these new "powerful moves" though. |

Considering that many pokemon moves can destroy mountains and this New Attacks are suppose to be stronger then those attack. |
