SM Megas Already Revealed in Trailers?
(not my theory/idea, credits to the yt vid here) (ps jump to 7:27 to listen to the explanation)
So basically, all the non-Alola Pokémon that have been showcased in the SM trailers that don't have a mega & are fully-evolved are going to be having a Mega-Evolution is the theory :3 . (Flygon, Miltoic, Fearow, Dragonite, Pangoro, & Krookodile) All the other Pokémon in the trailers that are not 7th Gen or fully evolved, have Mega-Evolutions. (+ some match ups are totally random and the opposing Pokémon is not effected very much from the Pokémon's attack, if that makes any sense at all lol.) This is pretty sufficient from when XY trailers were revealed, most of the non-Kalos Pokémon that were showcased got Megas. What do you think? Do you support this theory? Why or why not? If so, are you excited for the possible Megas? |
I've seen this theory and I think it makes sense. Not quite convinced though.
A mega flygon/milotic would be awesome! Fearow too! |
Flygon, Milotic, and Dragonite? yes please.
Fearow, Pangoro, and Krookodile? k e e p t h e m. I'm not gonna get my hopes up or anything. My excitement is saved for the actual new things. When the next game in line comes along the megas will be at the top of my list but as for right now, I'm not fussed about who gets a mega or not. The theory makes sense, but I can't see them following through with it. Mainly because I don't see those three I disagreed with getting megas. Milotic, Flygon and Dragonite make sense because they're fan favourites but the other three? Not so sure. They might just be the Pokemon available within Alola along with the new ones. |

I don't think this theory is concrete. Just because an older generation Pokemon appeared in a trailer doesn't mean it'll get a Mega, plus we haven't seen anything hinting towards Megas returning so that also makes me believe that Mega Evolution may be out after just one generation.

You have to admit though, that's a pretty big coincidence with about 6 pokemon on each side.
|
I don't know, I think they could be just random Pokemon that the developers were using while testing the game. Although I would love to see new Megas, but I don't think they'll be the focus of this game. If anything they might not show them at all, and we'd be off to hunt for stones Post Game. Fearow getting some love would be really cool though.
|
audino got a mega, anything is possible.
I think its an awesome theory, and would love it to be true. |
I do think we will get more megas but I don't think this is a hint at what Pokemon will be receiving them. They are basically just wild Pokemon to show off how the new Pokemon look and move in battle.
|
As Blue said, it's not an indication of what is receiving a Mega. I believe it's more likely hinting as to which older generation Pokemon may be catchable in Alola's regional Pokedex.
If you go back and watch all the X & Y trailers, all the older generation Pokemon shown were included in the Kalos regional Dex. If that was anything to go by, it's likely all the older Pokemon appearing in Sun & Moon trailers at the moment are all going to be in Alola's regional Dex. |
I think he is on to something. And honestly Hikamaru, I really don't understand why you think Megas aren't going to make a return. I just don't see why it wouldn't. It is a massive battle mechanic and they have never removed battle mechanics before. Not to mention it is very popular. And they continue to hype the hell out of it in the anime and tcg and even the movie.
Krookodile is a fan favorite. It is probably on par with Flygon. And they don't have to be fan favorites. Just look at Audino, Slowbro, Pinsir, Lopunny, and Mawile. Nothign Game Freak does is random. Nothing at all. They do everything for a reason. They plan everything like it does. People though the dog in the trailer was random, but Corocoro and Pokemon planned it. It isn't random. It never will be random. The anime showcased a trainer with all Eeveelutions and the very next generation, we got another Eeveelution. Sableye was a big pokemon in the Mewtwo movie, and we got a mega in the next games. Ash caught an Aipom, people thought it was random, but then it evolved in the next generation. The showcased the hell out of Charizard in Pokemon BW at the end, and it got Megas. Nothing is random. |

Irc Masuda said that the criteria for who gets Megas are Balance, Popularity, and Creativity. Flygon failed to get a design that they felt adequate so despite being a fan favorite it didn't get a Mega in either of the Gen VI pairs. |

Game Freak also infamously tends to remove well-loved features between games, so there's that to consider as well. |

I certainly beleive we're going to see a lot of mega evolutions in SM.

Anyways, I think if they were gonna remove mega evolution they would do it in ORAS. Mega evolution is here to stay~ (well 99% confirmed imo) |
I have trouble believing that Dragonite will get a Mega Evolution because of how redundant the name of its Mega Stone will sound in the English version.

Eh, I'm kind of 50/50 on this. I could've sworn they did this for XY and ORAS too, but I just went and looked back at a few of the trailers, and seems they didn't.
Either way I don't really care - all Pokemon listed are over hyped anyway IMO, I'd rather lesser celebrated Pokemon gets megas. |
Megas aren't going anywhere. The feature has been promoted far too much for them to just throw it away. Challenge settings, Pokemon following you etc, those features weren't that big and weren't that hyped up. But megas are everywhere. They're in the anime, the merchandise etc. They're returning. They'll just be getting the new stuff out the way first. I expect we'll get new megas announced around September.

If you look back at OR/AS, we had new Megas not in X/Y but they were all revealed before the game release and that meant none of us would discover new Megas ourselves as we played so maybe Game Freak reacted to that and decided to make new Megas a surprise again. |

So really, there's no way to determine what Pokemon will get Megas because there's no set standard criteria for them. It's really up to the developers on which Pokemon get Megas in what game. And they're not going to fully announce everything because they'd like to leave things up as a surprise for the players. GameFreak is horrifically tight-lipped about what information they reveal and when. They're not going to put everything out there for the fans to know about before the games' release. They'd want us to be surprised by something. But they do give us just enough hints to speculate if we wish. And that's what this is: speculation. It would be really awesome to see a Krookodile Mega, or to finally see a Flygon Mega if the artist block for it is broken. But I wouldn't count Mega evolution as a one-time thing. GameFreak's paying attention to the competitive game even more now (what with the tournament circuit being a big deal) and Mega evolution is a great way to balance the issues and bring normally never-used Pokemon to the battlefield. So I think Mega Pokemon are going to stick around for a while. |
