Right?
I'm really excited to get off work tomorrow, actually. I think I'm gonna head downtown and check out all the monuments to see what all I can find there. I'm excited to see what kind of Pokémon inhabit my native city, and I could definitely use the exercise. It's, uh, kind of embarrassing how excited this is making me. |
I've wanted to explore more lately (started walking more two days before) so it ties in perfectly. I do want to get fit and I do want to explore the neighbourhood more... and catch them all. Ofc.
Of definitely, my friends and I all spent about an 1-1.5 hours outside tonight, just walking around our campus in search of Pokemon.
I have never been so excited to just walk around my neighborhood
The battery drain though, I don't know how much I will use this when I actually travel farther away from home, lol. |
Not anymore than usual, no. I've been wanting to but... nope, anxiety conquers all. :c I'll probably try to venture out more if I can with Pokemon GO, but I doubt I really will. x___x
It has! I was only able to play a little last night before the servers went down, but I had already walked around outside a little nearby in an area I hadn't bothered with before. I'm excited to head to work today and see if there's anything nearby there, too. On my next day off I'm definitely inviting my bf along and going on a Pokemon hunting trip, haha.
Oh definitely, I have an excuse to get off my backside for once... and at this point any excuse to do that is greatly appreciated. Living in a rural Irish village gets very dull... so it's nice to actually have something to do here.

I don't think my want to go outside has changed one bit, but it has made me want to walk more which is weird for a lazy person such as myself. I have classes on three different campuses and normally I would bus to each of them (even if I have a lot of time between them), but now I wouldn't mind actually walking to them - just so I can catch pokemon xD

If it makes you feel better I spent the better part of my evening limping about too. A muscle in my foot today randomly decided that it shouldn't be walked on. These things won't keep us down! |
I spent twice the usual amount of time on my morning jog today... I may have gone exploring for additional pokemon off my normal path... lol
To be honest, it doesn't really seem worth the effort. I mean in order to find any pokemon you have to travel quite a ways and I can only travel on foot. There aren't any monuments here, I think there was a gym over an apartment building nextdoor but that doesn't mean anything when all you have are two Pidgeys.
I think I'll stick to Y and Sun and Moon. |
Definitely, just today I spent 3 hours outside just wandering around an area I rarely go out to, despite it being an easy two minutes walk. Every day I'm excited for the travel to and from work, which used to be a draining haul every morning and afternoon. Now I don't mind spending an extra ten/twenty minutes getting home in order to grab the items from a Pokéstop on a detour, or to catch that Ghastly in an alleyway. It's weird how much of a sudden change it's brought about in me.
I'm a lot more excited about going outside, even though mine is glitched that I can't even catch pokemon! Looking forward to that being fixed...
YES! Definitely! Now I have a reason to go jogging so i can hatch my eggs lol. And its a ton of fun as a group with people just walking around!
is this good or bad...I did more exercise today than pretty much all of last week XD
People are looking at me in weird ways as I keep stopping lol |
I'm already a pretty active person (gym rat) but the game has definitely encouraged me to spend time outside exploring my own neighborhood and places even a bit further which is a big deal for me. I tend to have a lot of social anxiety and talk myself out of going places that are unfamiliar. I think it's great.
It's definitely gotten me up and out of bed! There's a coffee shop a few blocks away with a Pokestop next door and a gym close by so I've been running back and forth all day defending it.
Have to get a little personal with this answer, but I'm diagnosed with fibromyalgia (yes, a sixteen y/o boy has fibro, it always shocks older people with the disease) with features of CFS. That's basically medical code for "weak body and muscles with constant long-term fatigue and pain". I try to leave the house as much as possible to keep my muscle issues from getting worse, but it's almost impossible sometimes. Makes me miss the occasional school day, even (which would be great if not for the pain!).
But since GO came out, I've been wanting to leave the house more than succumbing to my illness. Just today I headed out of and walked a fair bit/loitered right between two stops and near some lures. Legit almost passed out, but it was worth it. Lesson learned: Eat something before you go out, and drink more water. Plan accordingly. |
It absolutely did!
I've been thinking about getting more active and fit for a long time, but didn't have enough motivation to actually DO something. Just going out and running just seems so mundane and boring to me... but with pokemon GO I find myself on edge to go out whenever someone takes over a Gym I had the upper hand of. We'll see how long this will last - but its a good change for now! |
I think it has for a lot of people, but I wonder the longevity of peoples excitement. I'm hoping they'll keep updating the game with new generations and such. |
For sure.
In fact, I've learned more about my community in the few days playing Pokemon GO than I have in the 20 years I've lived here. It's also kind of creepy how this game knows so much about my town...? But whatevs. |
Totally, it's my new fitness plan haha.
How did you get so physically fit? I've caught a lot of pokémon... These eggs are going to be the death of me though. I have 45km worth of eggs in my inventory and haven't even finished one of them. |
I already go outside a lot so Pokemon Go really hasn't encouraged me more. I like it that I have a new challenge to find Pokemon when I do go outside though.
Not really out more often, because I usually ride my bike everywhere, but the hours have increased. I have noticed a 5 mile ride to the store is now, for some unknown reason, coming in at 7-10 miles and taking 4 times as long.
Oh man yeah. I've walked around 2 miles today if not more which is a lot more than usual and it's really exciting to be outside. I loooove GO even though all these freezes and crashes. Hopefully I'll keep at it, like Fabio said it could very well wear off but it's Pokémon and I tend to get overly obsessed. =p
Oh, definitely! It's done wonders for my friends, too. I've heard of people forming groups to go out walking/playing. Currently I'm a little sick, so I'm eagerly waiting to go out and catch this goddamn Clefairy, haha. Can't wait to see how active I will be once I go to the City (San Francisco)!
I am a runner so I came outside quite often already! However, I walked my usual 10km round today (that I used to run with Nike+ Running) and it didn't hatch my 10km egg...
When I am running I have to stop in order to catch so that's quite a hassle hahah. |
I hate going outside. The sun burns you, bugs attack you, and I trip a lot.
That being said, yes, I've been walking almost every day. Today it almost didn't happen because I got all hyped to hatch my 10km egg, got all ready, took one step out the door and walking right into a spider web but I still went. |
Yes, but more so now I see my surroundings in a whole new way. I see pokestops instead of churches and fountains!
I go to the gym about five times a week and do my cardio there but decided today I'd go for a walk after my lift. Walked around my neighborhood for about 20 minutes to hit all the pokestops around and caught a few new pokemon. Was pretty cool but I was alone so it got boring after a while. If I had a friend or two with me I think I would enjoy it a little more.
Yes, not to go out and walk around the neighborhood but to watch the idiots driving and trying to catch Pokemon almost causing an accident in the process.

I met an individual that bought a 1 day park hopper (174.99) over at DisneyWorld just to play PokemonGo.
The commitment is real out here. |
I had surgery on my foot last month, so my mobility has been pretty limited. But ever since I installed the game, I've been motivated to go out and exercise. Of course, I end up with pain by the end of the day.
I can't wait to head in to the city so I can find more stops and players though. |
Definitely. I find myself taking more walks and discovering new places near me I never even knew existed haha.
A friend asked me if I wanted to go walking, it was a scary new experience.
A bit. I went for a walk into town that I otherwise wouldn't have today.
Before today I had an old data plan so I couldn't use online without it costing a lot (so I didn't really feel the need to go anywhere)....but now I have 7.5gb to mess around with for 30 days so it should be fine. |
Me before today: bed.
Me after today: LET'S GO CATCH SOME POKÉMON! *douses self in sun cream* *takes ALL of the hayfever meds* *charges up portable charger* *goes outside* |
Mine has encouraged me to be at work and in town more lol. There aren't too many Pokemon right outside of where I live. THE LIFE OF LIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE http://cbc.pokecommunity.com/config/emoticons/ugh.gif
apparently I didn't douse myself in enough suncream because now the tops of my ears are peeling
...maybe I should bathe in it next time |
Yeah for sure. I have been going out to more parks. Today I visited a higher end shopping center I walked around for 2 hours and I even visited a local Red Robin's to eat because they had a PokeStop. I even got a discount because I was playing Pokemon Go. It was a pretty good day.
It definitely has. Me and my husband are both fairly active already, but like yesterday for instance, we woke up at 8am specifically to go on a walk down main street and collect pokestops, find pokemon etc. Later on we went to the pool and by the pool there's a park with a winding track and quite a few pokestops there so we ended up exploring the park as well, which turned out to be GORGEOUS with a gazebo overlooking the most gorgeous pond (which happened to have a gym on the other side). There were quite a few other people who had the same idea as us and we found a group of maybe 8-10 older teenagers sitting around the rock wall (which was a pokestop with a lure) catching pokemon as they showed up and commenting about the stuff they got, etc.
It's already been soooo much fun and I wore my fitbit which let me know I had over 12,000 steps by dinner time! The only issue is that I got ridiculously bad sunburned from being out all day, but wearing sunscreen is a small price to pay for such an amazing time. Ha. |
I am a Lifeguard at a pool so I am always outside anyway so it really hasn't got me out more. One cool thing though is it got a group of friends around 10 people taking walks together trying to check Pokemon.
definately i see crazy amount of people on the street at night time
I've been going outside everyday due to XC practicing by myself and a friend. However, this game has caused me to stay 3-4 hours longer than usually, and made me buy a power bank! It's fun to place lure modules with my friend as nearby Pokemon GO players come and stay to catch Pokemon. I met some very nice people through that!
I have already been going out but it has encouraged me to go out even more now!
Oh definitely, I visited a park I haven't been to in ten years, explored a new side of town, and walked up and down the mall while staring at my phone for two hours. :p
Pokemon Go has definitely gotten me out of the house more! My evenings used to consist of me playing games on my 3ds and my husband firmly attached to hi ls xbox controller. Now we are getting out of the house together, spending more time actually talking, and even taking short trips to nearby cities to go exploring when we get the chance! Hopefully we will be able to keep up this momentum when the rain returns this fall

Go has also encouraged me to get out and actually practice driving. I like driving if I have a destination in mind, and going to a place where there's a PokeSpot is a definite incentive. |

It is crazy just how more sociable people are because of Go. Crazy, but it's a good thing. Go is also great for people with depression, like me and a few other people I watch on Youtube. Because of Go, we're getting outside and moving, which is great for helping with depression. And Go's system means that we have small goal we can work towards, so we don't get de-motivated (and therefore more depressed) with the game. It's just really great that there's this game now that has brought people out of their shells, gotten them out of the house and talking to people, and people are happier. |
It's encouraged me to want to go out walking more, but unfortunately work and social commitments have gotten in the way :( I usually walk quite a lot, but my summer job requires car travel so I don't get my usual walking commute miles in. Only really get a chance on weekends.
I'm getting out more during lunch time, we shall see how that holds up after a few months play :-) I live out in the middle of no where so lunch time and the commute to and from on the bus is where I do most of my playing.
I work outdoors so I guess not but I have been getting off the train station a couple stops before my home town just to walk the rest of the way home while playing Pokémon GO.
It definitely has encouraged me to walk more. |
I think for me it definitely has. I got the app about a week ago and even my Mom said I've been outside more than usual. I think it is awesome cuz it gets me more active than sitting on my *** on my phone or laptop all day in my bedroom.
I've noticed that GO has slowly made me change some of my habits; I now take a more circuitous route to the shop that passes more stops, and I convinced my other half to take a turn through the park when we were walking home from town, rather than going directly. Honestly I think if I was on my own I would do that sort of thing more, but as I'm usually walking with my fiance, it feels a bit mean making him walk more just so that I can collect pixels. One of my housemates has the game though so next weekend, weather permitting, we'll go Poke-hunting.
Basically if it wasn't for me being at work most of the time, I'd be out and about loads. |
YES! When you're driving around, it's different when it comes to learning the area. When I started walking around I noticed and saw more things by walking then by driving. (obviously I had to pay attention to the road!)
So I loved checking out the tiny flowers growing in certain areas, learning the cool spots people actually hung out at. And having the opportunity to meet people with a significant interest as you is a bonus. It's also encouraged me to get out and jog (I go and jog instead of playing the game) and it's a feeling I missed all too well. I enjoy sweating now (as gross as that sounds). |
Not really, it just replaced all of the things that I used to do while I was traveling like listening to music and scrolling twitter.
Yes. And sadly the heat is trying to stop me. Evil sun...... >:(
Not massively, seeing as how I mostly play on the journey to and from work, and if i've managed to snag myself an incense, around the house.
Hence why i've only racked up 1.2km on my 'Jogger' medal. |
It has certainly when I am not busy or something. I wish I could play it more the times that I work usually make it very difficult. :/
Absolutely. I've found myself elongating my walks to work and going to places local to me that I didn't even realise existed!
I lost 3kg since I started playing this. I'm glad I finally found that catalyst for turning my empty promise to myself (i.e. losing weight) into a reality.
still got a lot more exercising to do before I meet my goal, though. |
Quote:
I already go outside a decent amount, but I do have some slightly overweight friends who have lost weight just because they were playing Pokemon GO.
A little bit. however it is so too bloody hot outside. And to make matters worse I am still sick with a really stubborn soar throat that refuses to go away.

It definitely has encouraged me to do more walking and venture out on foot more instead or just stepping out of my apartment and into my car.
I have always been an outdoors type of person so Pokemon Go just basically gives me another reason to be outdoors and active. I love searching and catching the Pokemon and all the other little things involved in the games, but the ultimate thing for me is being outside and getting more exercise.
It has for me, but only for hatching eggs. I don't usually go out for catching new Pokémon.
Nothing rare spawns here except once in a blue moon and nothing that appears on the nearby map spawn. However I have seen families of deer, rabbit's and duck's since playing the game, which to be honest was more exciting then any Pokémon. But I usually can only go out between 7pm and 10 because it's 80 degrees most of the day, but it's not exactly safe to go out at night, and it starts getting dark at 9:30. |
Yeah, I'm going more and more outside - that's for sure :)
