So much for Farfetch'd...
So a few places now, including Serebii, are now claiming there are at least four continent-exclusive Pokémon:
What do you all think about this? Are you angry you can't get three of these in the wild? Or does this whole thing seem too, well, Farfetch'd? |
I wish they hadn't done this. I mean, there's no REAL reason why these Pokemon are in the locations they are, right? It's not like Pokemon Go has really been obeying geography; I find Water-type Pokemon in the middle of the street, nowhere near the water at all. They really expect us to travel all the way across the world to catch a Pokemon? Or we're supposed to trade it? It's not like we can find someone online to trade with, like in the games..
|
Whilst that does feel annoying, I swear I saw a live map with several Tauros and Kangaskhan on it in Cambridge, England? I'll take a look and see if I can find it...
|
I'm a bit disappointed that I can't get Farfetch'd or Kangaskhan (if this information is for sure true), but if trading does for sure become a thing in this game, then I'll probably get my hands on at least one or two of them eventually.
|
I can confirm we have Kangeskhan in Australia, and I'm yet to see the other 3.
I haven't heard of anyone having them either. |
Farfetch'd is my favorite Gen I Pokémon so I'm awfully disappointed by that. Guess I'm moving to Japan or something.
|
I'm not mad. The developers said that someone who wanted to literally catch them all would have to either travel the world or make good use of the trading system. So now it makes a little more sense why they would have said that.
Have patience. It's stuff like this that is going to make this game epic in the long-term, not just a load of fun right now. |
Tauros are available in North America. I have one. And I have not seen any of the others, either myself or in gyms.
Personally, I don't really care for any of these Pokemon so I'm not really disappointed as much as I am confused that they would do this without having trading available. I guess they're just trying to come up with a way to drag this out so that people will keep playing after a week or two. |
Tauros are a dime a dozen in NA (at least where I am).
Also, I've heard other "regional" Pokémon can still be acquired via eggs, though I've yet to confirm this for myself. |
Yeah, I too live in North America and have quite a few Tauros; seems legit.
I'm kinda bummed about Farfetch'd and Mr. Mime though. While they're not the strongest, they are iconic in their own ways. |
Turns out the map I mentioned earlier was actually a map of Boston and they just happen to have an area with the same name... oops. I that case I reckon this is probably true! Disappointing to have Mr. Mime as our regional Pokémon but I like the concept anyway, it's interesting having this global aspect to the games.
|
You can definitely get the others through hatching eggs, at least Mr. Mime in North America, havn't seen anyone with the other two and it seems everyone has a Tauros by this point in my city so I can buy into the regional Pokemon being legit

Was this possibly just someone reporting an egg hatching when they shouldn't have? Maybe. But there were two within several blocks of each other... |
It's kind of disappointing, actually. There are people that can't realistically travel that far due to financial reasons, job demands, physical condition, etc. If it ends up being true that kinda sucks. I know it's not as big a deal once the trading feature is added, but..I dunno. Kind of strange.
|
right now you can only catch farfetch'd in south korea, and even there you have to move to the northeastern corner of the country for pokemon go to work. (which is already full of people trying to catch pokemon now)
though region exclusive pokemon leads me to believe we can trade pokemon in the future. |
Yeah the region-exclusivity almost certainly confirms trading will happen eventually, but I wonder in what capacity? It'd be somewhat easy if we could trade online, but I wonder if they're gonna make it that easy on us... It would be kind of awful to only be able to trade in person. I don't personally know many people who travel outside the continent that often. ]:
|
Okay but why is Mr. Mime the European exclusive? Is it because miming had its roots in Greece? Or was it a more benign reason like how Magmar and Electabuzz used to be version exclusives? Hmmmm.

Do you guys think Niantic is actually encouraging us to explore beyond our neighborhoods and homes? I mean, it's kinda extreme for them to make some Pokemon continent exclusive, but I have hopes that we could actually get them via eggs and trading. Hopefully they'll put in a fix for that, because I know a lot of us really want to catch them all.
|
Wow. I was really hoping that I'd be able to catch a wild Farfetch'd. Now I have to wait to get it in an egg...hopefully.
This really does confirm that trading is going to be possible soon. I hope that it's done in a way that makes it easy to trade across continents. Like how many people know world travelers or someone in every continent? I was going to say that Tauros is a weird choice for North America, but maybe it's to relate it to the American bison? Or cowboys. https://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-clint.gif |

what do you think they'll do? better yet what's your suggestion? |
I can hear both sides of this but ultimately I wouldn't have had any region exclusive Pokees. What if an American's favorite Pokemon is region exclusive elsewhere? Doesn't really seem fair.
|
I Googled this for quite a while last night and I can't find any solid proof that any of these Pokémon have been hatched from an egg from regions other than the ones listed, but there have been a lot of people saying that it's possible regardless. It's tough to know right now so I'm assuming the answer is that you can't hatch them outside of those regions but really hoping you can. I think until one of us has managed to do it it'll be hard to trust anyone on this haha.
|
I thought I read somewhere that Niantic even mentioned you could hatch them outside their respective continents at their Comic Con press-release. I could be completely making that up though, as a lot of speculative information is being passed around.
But you're right, I've never seen anyone hatch them outside of their regions, personally... and I don't believe I've ever see anyone post about it here or elsewhere. Who knows. |
Perhaps what matters isn't where the egg is hatched but where it's found? Like if you find the egg in Japan but then travel to Europe before hatching the egg, you might still get Farfetch'd? No idea, just speculating.
At any rate I'm in Europe and I have seen (the silhouette of) Mr. Mime, so he's definitely here. |
Kangaskhan being an Australia exclusive makes sense, but I don't like this idea of Pokemon that are only exclusive to certain countries because there is currently no trading feature (although it was announced it will be included in a future update) and the eggs are completely randomized as well.
Hopefully future updates will get around this, but it's just mean when you know that all the GO players can't "catch em all" just because of a Pokemon being outside of their region. |

Apparently it's now confirmed that you can hatch regional exclusives anywhere in the world. Race you all to getting a Farfetch'd! |
