Underrated Pokemon

So, I purchased Omega Ruby and replayed it again after--holy crap--2 years? Was this really released in November 2014? Anyway

What are some Pokemon you think should be used by more players? We know Flygon, Milotic, Manectric, and the like are pretty popular, but what about some other ones?

After leaving Slateport, I caught a Minun and forgot to deposit in the PC before continuing, and I ended up using it in one of the trainer battles ahead and was surprised at the fact it wasn't KOed immediately, which I thought was going to happen. It ended up KOing Drake's Salamence with Copycat Dragon Rush, which I thought was pretty awesome.

What are some Pokemon you think more people should use instead of more popular ones in playthroughs?

Cradily and Swalot
These two pokemon have always been amazing in my eyes and I think it kind of sucks that not many people like them or play them. Swalot is such an awesome and beefy poison type pokemon and I am actually using it a lot on my current play through of OR. Cradily is such a unique stalling pokemon and although being rock type makes it relatively hard to play, I have still managed to do some awesome things with this guy. Try breeding one of these with Recover, and it is so worth it I swear.

Oh! Obviously I think Gorebyss is the best pokemon ever so that's worth mentioning. I think it's not a very popular pokemon with most people and doesn't get much credit, but I freaking adore this pink Eel pokemon. It's also an all around incredibly powerful water pokemon.

Not a Pokemon, but Wonder Trade is hugely underrated. It's full of people giving away extras from their breeding projects so you can catch a couple of beginning route Pokemon and end up with an Eevee or Charmander or something totally random and cool with egg moves and probably good stats and a few flawless IVs here and there.

You can't nickname them unfortunately but it feels nice to give a Pokemon that otherwise would've been released a good home.

Altaria. I feel people don't use this thing a lot in-game but I wanted to try it to see how good Mega Altaria would be and surprisingly she was my team's MVP of the Elite Four because she was able to stop Drake's team cold.

I also take her for Battle Maison when I have to do some quick battles for grinding BP. Can't really get past the first round but earning one point after every battle in a 10-battle round is solid.

altaria has a stat score of like 590. its sats are almost legendary. Its a monster and seems to lvl oddly fast for me. I put lax inscencse on mine and domg...

Plusle and Minun have worked well for me, and they are really underrated! Also a fan of Whiscash, Seviper, Cradily, Armaldo, Castform, Gorebyss and Huntail.

The_Awesome_Pikachu August 27th, 2016 6:36 AM

Anything from Gen 5 is underrated.

Piccolo990 August 27th, 2016 7:15 AM

I think that Stunfisk is underrated. I would love a Mega-Stunfisk.
Talking about 3 Gen, I would choose Castform, it is a great Pokemon for me.

The Trapinch line. Sure, you have to deal with Trapinch's slowness and frailty, but it hits hard for an unevolved Pokemon. Then you have Vibrava at level 35, which loses some of Trapinch's power in exchange for becoming a Dragon. It won't be long before it becomes Flygon (10 levels later), which regains Trapinch's power. The main part that makes them underrated is the fact that their level up move pools god massively buffed between generations (gaining Rock Slide and better Ground moves than Sand Tomb by level up, in particular).

Raestro August 27th, 2016 11:18 PM

Swoobat. A mega swoobat would be great

Gigadweeb August 27th, 2016 11:57 PM

Easily Armaldo. Thing looks cool as shit, and while it's not as good as Cradily, it still has its niche.

I feel like Flygon is pretty popular, though; they even included it in Black 2 and White 2 with other popular Pokemon like Lucario, and a ton of fans were convinced we'd get a Mega Flygon once Megas were revealed :p

I think I'm definitely going to use Armaldo next time, maybe Cradily.

Recently restarted AS and running a grass-type monorun, I gotta say I like Cacturne alot, hits real hard and look cool for sure (although slow). And Cacnea is so freakin adorable, especially feeding it a Poke Puff makes my heart melts~

Adam Levine September 17th, 2016 11:45 PM

Chimecho.

The thing is damn hard to find without the DexNav, and people seldom use it. In fact, I don't think any NPCs use Chimecho (at least in the original games).

Tom2 September 18th, 2016 9:28 AM

The Regi Trio for starters. I love these guys so much and I'm trying to find someone who is willing to part with a Regirock with either an Adamant or Impish nature (atm no luck :(((( )
Also I'd say Torkoal is a seriously underrated pokemon. I've not seen many online and yet it makes and excellent tank and can be set up as a good physical or special dedicated sweeper if used right. I also like Altaria without using a mega stone. But most of all? For me Mega Banette, which is my mega of choice. I never see it online but he's saved my butt on more than one occasion. My boy, Bad Voodoo takes the cake as one of my favorites to use! :D

agreed, i took cacnea on a play through to balance out my types and it ended up performing excellently.

Pichu. Everyone dislikes it bc of it's gameplay technique in melee and everyone thinks that it's too weak but I think it's adorable and would use it regardless of power

I know it's not ORAS, but I'm going to be reallllyyy surprised if Pichu remains underrated in Sun/Moon. Pikachu and Raichu both got something in the game, so I'm expecting something for Pichu next... hopefully.

I have an awesome Moxie Mightyena with Thunder Fang in my Alpha Sapphire and he's a total boss. Even the Poochyena you get in the DexNav tutorial is great, with how hard those elemental fangs hit early on, but if you ever have the time to DexNav a HA Poochyena I recommend you try it.

Same especially with DexNav, Boomburst Swellow is <33

Hikamaru September 24th, 2016 8:04 PM

I think another of my notable DexNav captures was a Trubbish with Rock Blast. I didn't even know Trubbish could learn that move, but I do feel proud of him because he's got a special move. He's now a happy Garbodor that gets rotated every now and then.

I also got an Oddish with three perfect IVs (HP, Defense and Sp. Atk) with a +Sp. Atk nature. She's now a Bellossom with some damn high Sp. Attack and I feel blessed with how strong she is.

DexNav can really bless you when you least expect it.

Firox September 24th, 2016 10:12 PM

Would Liepard be underrated?
I use mine all the time, really loving it it's been very good in my teams and love it by design, I even use it in doubles - I haven't seen or encountered any other player using one.
