Can we STOP HAVING these types of threads?

I'm tired of seeing an entirely new thread EVERY SINGLE TIME someone (especially when it's someone of absolutely no importance) gets a lot of posts or reaches the one-year mark. I have a feeling people are just going around looking for people and just making threads about them for the sake of making threads. It's absolutely ridiculous seeing everyone pee their pants over something this unimportant. Merely being at this board for a year isn't much of an achievement. Or, at least it SHOULDN'T. It's like saying "Whoo! You didn't get bored of us! Let's throw a freaking parade! You're our hero!". It's absurd. Can't we just have ONE THREAD dedicated to this sort of thing, as opposed to FIFTY?

Mr Cat Dog May 1st, 2005 12:00 PM

To be perfectly honest, I feel exactly the same way as you. Birthday threads are OK, but everything else seems a bit pointless. But... it appears we are part of the grave minority in this situation. They're not going to change any time soon... as about 95% of the people here enjoy them and such.

Yami_Zidane May 1st, 2005 12:24 PM

to be honest i don't tend to notice them, but now that you've mentioned it i probably will O.o anywho i just say ignore them because i doubt it will change in the near future

Natsuki May 1st, 2005 12:31 PM

You do have a point there. ^^; I love wishing people happy birthdays, and some major milestones like 10,000 and 20,000 posts are OK, but I never saw the need for threads to be made for 1,000th posts and whatnot. ^^; To me it seems a bit spammy. <.<;;

Perhaps we can enforce a rule about this, like only milestone threads for major things like reaching your 10,000th post or whatever. ^.^;

But as the posters above me have said, we are only a small group of the PC members who feel this way. Maybe it's best to just not pay them any mind.

Well, the threads are only made for 10K, 20K posters and 1, 2 year anniversaries. It's not exactly like OC is flooded with 3 month anniversaries etc.

Cherrim May 1st, 2005 12:49 PM

I don't much care for them either. :\ Personally, I liked the idea of the Happy Birthday forum being the Celebration forum... so all threads like that would be dropped in there. Makes it a whole lot nicer for everyone who doesn't want to see all those threads whenever they venture into OC.

Kurosaki May 1st, 2005 1:02 PM

Yeah, they annoy me as well, specially when there are a lot on the same page, its annoying. Even for 10,000 posts, its annoying since it's just a number.

Nine May 1st, 2005 1:40 PM

Ok wow you've made 20,000 posts. Big deal. Just make one giant thread for them. It is rather annoying to see those threads. >_<;;

Kyogre-chan May 1st, 2005 1:42 PM

And that brings me back to the original suggestion of a celebration forum, as opposed to just a birthday forum. o.o;

Geometric-sama May 1st, 2005 3:34 PM

Didn't there use to be a rule that said we're not allowed these 1-year threads and they should be put in DCC?

I don't recall a rule like that. oO

Anyways, I do agree with you. It seems like people are just making threads for the sake of making them, and it's kind of clogging up PC.

These kind of things are DCC material, if you ask me. I could add a new rule stating that you're not allowed to make milestone threads, and just use the DCC.

Cherrim May 1st, 2005 3:46 PM

Almost all the people who have these threads also have a fanclub. I would imagine things like that are far more suited for their fanclubs anyway, but I doubt that idea would fly very well.

Geometric-sama May 1st, 2005 3:54 PM

Why not make it in their fanclub if they have one, and in DCC otherwise?

Cherrim May 1st, 2005 3:55 PM

Yes, that would work... although it would quickly be lost if it were to go in the DCC, so I doubt anyone would put it in there very often. I'd personally prefer just PMing your congrats to the person, but I know no one else would agree to something like that.

ravenstorture May 1st, 2005 3:59 PM

Out of all the ideas I have seen put out here so far, the best one is Ty's idea of a Celebration Forum instead of that sub-forum being for just birthdays. That way birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones could all go in there. Less people are going to see them in DCC, since that place is chaos, and not everyone who has an anniversary has a club. I think the celebration sub-forum sounds the best.

Geometric-sama May 1st, 2005 4:06 PM

Why don't we just have one anniversary thread? Personally, I don't see why we actually need these threads -_-

Aye, theres no point in making a whole sunforum for them. There's already a Happy B-day one, and 10k, 20k ect can be done through PM, DCC ect, since they're just stupid things to celebrate IMO.

Geometric-sama May 1st, 2005 4:19 PM

Well, you could congratulate them, but you don't need to "celebrate" them. And I'm pretty sure that at one stage these threads weren't allowed. Ah, the good old days...

Arcanine May 1st, 2005 4:38 PM

If you mean them threads are spammy Allstories then you're not saint yourself on posts. More then half your posts are pointless or spam anyway.

I really see nothing wrong with them. Can anyone tell me, how many times does being a 1 year PC member come around? Just once, sure that member might get a 2 year and maybe even a 3 year thread. But what's wrong with it? That time only comes once. If Eli never started my 2 year anniversary thread would I have gotten a 2 year anniversary thread next year? I also got a 10K thread when I made 10,000 posts. If that thread was never started then would I have got one down the road a good ways? I'm not saying start a thread every time someone makes 1,000 posts. 1K isn't that hard, 10K is. Having over ten thousand posts shows you have dedication to PC, you put time, and effort into PC to get to 10K. What is wrong with having a thread saying "Congrats".
I myself like the idea of making the birthday forum into a
celebrations forum. I wanted it like that before the Birthday forum was started (I think it was CC that said it should be a celebrations forum and not just a birthday forum, I really liked that idea). I like that idea better then the idea of the FanClub (when I got 20K and when I was here 2 years I don't think my club was alive at that time, and I bet others are the same).

But in the end, if you don't like the congrats thread then don't go to them.

And what is this
"Whoo! You didn't get bored of us! Let's throw a freaking parade! You're our hero!"
What kind of BS is that? Try telling that to a couple that had their anniversary and around here you would get your jaw busted.
I know PC isn't real life, but I don't like a smartass that is part time spammer and doesn't even post all that much in the forum he is crying about. If you're going to push your point then try to not be so stuck up.

The Fallen May 1st, 2005 4:50 PM

I like the birthday forum a total celebration.Everyone deserves their own thread for things that some people may never accomplish.A year anniversary is big, so is 10k.

If you want one thread what's gonna stop the "useless" posts of saying congrats....I know nothing.

I would be happy to see the Birthday forum to turn into an overall Congrats forum.Cause everyone deserves recognition for things that took time...

That, or you spam a lot, XD

There's nothing wrong with the threads, its just that the number of them are clogging up OC. We need to make a single thread for each or something. *shrugs*

ravenstorture May 1st, 2005 5:07 PM

Ok, if they are clogging OC, that is where the celebration forum comes in.

I personally think one forum for one thing (birthdays) isn't needed. Now if it is for more than that (anniversaries, etc) than it can do some good. Again, if you don't want to see those threads, don't bother going in that sub forum. This sub forum will serve the purpose where you can go into OC and not have to see those threads, therefore, there wouldn't be a problem, right?

Natsuki May 1st, 2005 5:10 PM

I agree with Andy and Erica about the Celebrations Forum. I think we should convert the Happy Birthdays sub-forum into a celebration subby for milestones, anniversaries, birthdays, ya know, the works. XD It sure would relieve the main section of OC from all those somewhat spammy threads. -.-

O May 1st, 2005 6:25 PM

I agree with you... 10k threads and 20k threads are ok, but anniversaries is a no no. Look at the join date list. There's at least one active member that joins everyday, so technically speaking, there would be a Anniversary thread every day. That's just annoying. Have a Celebrations forum

Pincushion May 1st, 2005 7:21 PM

We either have them or not, I dont think if the person isn't to as much importance as another person here at PC there anniversarys should be ignored, if the others are doing it, why the hell not should they, they do annoy me because theres so many, but heck I dont really care much. :dead:
