What nicknames are you giving your Pokemon!??

So far i Decided :
Rowlet (if the Archer leak is true)-RobinHoot
Pikipek-Peeko
A-Sandslash- Snowslash/Shard
A-Exeguttor-Exegudragon.
Solgaleo-Surya(It refers to Sun in India)

XxNiqueoxX September 6th, 2016 10:58 AM

I'm not sure about everything else, but I know I want a Cutiefly and I'm going to name it Patootie.

Anyways, if the starter evo leaks are true then my Rowlet will be Ollie or Oliver.
Type: Null will be Frank.
Mimikyu is Pika Boo
The Alolan Sandshrew and Sandslash I catch for completion reasons will be Snowshrew and Snowslash just on principle.

Sirfetch’d September 6th, 2016 3:34 PM

The only one I've named so far:

Solgaleo > Hamgaleo

Rowlett - Kotori
Mimikyu - Spookachu
A-Raichu - Pancake
Lurantis - Strawberry
Rockruff - Charcoal, it's what I named my mightyena
Oricorio(Yellow) -PomPom

some other silly ones are

Crabrawler - Little Mac
and I don't remember the name of the dread locked pokemon but the first thing I noticed is that it looked like Snoop Dog xD so that's what I'd name it

Rivvon September 6th, 2016 5:55 PM

I'm gonna name Cutiefly Fuzzy Buzzy.

That's all I can think of right now.

zeno101200 September 6th, 2016 5:57 PM

I use word association usually to figure out a name. Or name them in French. So here are some ideas, because I have no idea what I'm going to use for my team:
Litten - Mittens or Feu Chat (Fire Cat)
Popplio - Pitre (Clown) or Peter because it sounds similar.
Crabrawler - Vainqueur (Vanquisher)

Kikaito plush September 7th, 2016 2:59 AM

only one I have decided is

Sandygast/Palossand: Blackpool

Starry Windy September 7th, 2016 6:47 AM

If the game allows me to name Chinese names, I think I have considered some:
Popplio: 风光海狮 (fēng guāng hǎi shī), which means impressive sea lion. At first I thought of 风 (wind) and 光 (light) combination first, but then realized the meaning of the two combined {XD}
Alolan Vulpix: 雪狐子 (xuě hú zi), which means little snow fox.

Hikamaru September 7th, 2016 6:56 AM

Likely not. I can never seem to come up with good names.

blue September 7th, 2016 7:14 AM

I'm awful at nicknames so I tend to just take the easy option and stick with the default name. Sometimes I can be creative and think of names on the spot, I'd like to try and have a nicknamed team with S/M.

Abby September 7th, 2016 7:41 AM

My first playthrough'll be a nuzlocke so Nicknames are always good^^
The only pokémon I'm sure I'm getting is Rowlet, and I'll probably decide a name when I get it!

Pinkie-Dawn September 7th, 2016 10:06 AM

Rowlet - Green Arrow
Litten - Saggot
Popplio - A***l (I'll let you fill in the dots)
Pikipek - Woody
Yungoos - Trump
Rockruff - Sabrewulf
Togedomaru - Sanic
Drampa - Herbert
Bruxish - Triggered
Mimikyu - Faker
Bewear - Pooh
Mudsdale - Trouble Shoes
Wishiwashi - Legion
Palossand - Mr. Sandman
Crabrawler - Rocky
A-Raticate - Ratigan
A-Sanslash - Coldsteel
A-Meowth - Tsundere
A-Marowak - Ghostrider

Arjay September 7th, 2016 11:24 AM

I DIDN'T EVEN THINK OF THAT OMG

Stuxify September 8th, 2016 2:15 AM

NightCard September 8th, 2016 3:10 AM

Litten - Cricket (named after my cat)
Crabrawler - Rocky
Pikipek - Woody
Mudsdale - Clyde
Cutiefly - Humbug
Drampa - I'm naming it after my one of my grandparents, not sure which one yet.

What do you guys think?

Judge Mandolore Shepard September 8th, 2016 6:19 AM

While I have not decided which Pokemon I will be using for my team in Pokemon Moon, I have decided on the theme I will be using for the nicknames for my team members.

Theme of nicknames: Metroid series Planets
Zebes
Arcterra
Norion
Aether
Elysia
Tallon IV

raxic_ex September 8th, 2016 8:03 AM

Type: Null - Arstricmor (Armor + Restrict)
Jangmo-o - Scalor (Scale + Warrior)
A-Raticate - Chubbrat (Chubby + Rat/Brat)
A-Meowth - Purgo (Purr + Ego)
A-Raichu - Sweeturf (Sweet + Surf)
Drampa - Eldvern (Elder + Wyvern)
Comfey - Lyralei
Morelull - Lumiroo (Illuminate + Mushroom)
Minior - Starmet (Star + Comet)
Bruxish - Queenzle (Queen + Dazzle)
Cutiefly - Minary (Mini + Fairy)

Brendino September 8th, 2016 9:38 PM

Haven't come up with any specific nicknames yet, since I'm not planning my team ahead of time, but seeing as how Alola is based on Hawaii, my Pokemon are going to have nicknames that only make use of the Hawaiian alphabet. Might be a challenge since I've only got 12 letters to work with, but I think it should lead to some fun and unique nicknames!

KipKipFox September 9th, 2016 6:46 PM

I want to name my Litten Flametail, after the ShadowClan medicine cat in Warriors. I might name it Tigerstar or Brambleclaw depending on its final evo though.

I agree with Peeko being a good name for Pikipek.

Lugarugan, Aleu or Kodiak depending on its gender.

Salandit, still thinking. Sandy? Bandit? Nah..

A-Ninetales, something like Glacia or Snowflake. Can't think of good ice-type names.

A-Raichu, don't know yet. Pancake? Meringue?

Jangmo-o, I think Spyro. I can probably come up with a better name.

Lunala I might leave nameless, because Lunala is already a good name in itself. I might name it Artemis though. Maybe not.

Assuming we'll get Zygarde, still thinking. Hades seems good.

Guest123_x1 September 9th, 2016 6:56 PM

I don't know too many of the Sun/Moon Pokémon out of those that have been revealed so far, and since I tend to give certain Pokémon nicknames that allude to real-world pop culture, I've decided on the following, assuming I do get these Pokémon:

*Popplio - Salty (Because my first glance at the Water starter reminded me of Salty the Seal from Walt Disney's classic Mickey Mouse theatrical shorts.)
*Lunala - Luana (I initially misread the Legendary Pokémon as 'Luana' when someone on Pokémon Crossroads took on said Pokémon's name.)

Maybe when I get the chance to know more of the newly-revealed Pokémon, I might think of additional nicknames.

Hey, Luana happened to be one of the Hawaiian words (apparently it means happiness/enjoyment), so I think this might be a good nickname c:

And on the vacay, I've been thinking of a name for Alolan Exeggutor after seeing a handful of coconut trees on the trip: 卡拉巴 (kǎlābā), literally kelapa, which in turn is the Indonesian and Malay word for coconut.

manfromjohto September 12th, 2016 12:58 PM

Exeggutor - Johnny

Seeing him & the new Wood Hammer animation work together so flawlessly inspired the name

εcho. September 12th, 2016 8:21 PM

Lugarugan - Either Remus or Lupin, depending on what I feel like in the moment.
Alola Ninetales - Echo, because my Ninetales is always named Echo.
Mudsdale - Westley

That's all I've got for now, the rest will be nicknamed depending on what I'm reading :P

Starry Windy September 12th, 2016 10:50 PM

I've thought of a few more, this time it's using alphabetic instead of Chinese letters:

Vikavolt: Jueki. Apparently it means tree sap in Japan, and beetles are known to like tree saps.
Zygarde: Core-Z7. I can't help but think of computer cores when I saw how Zygarde fights in Sun and Moon just recently.

Kameken September 12th, 2016 11:19 PM

Litten: Tai Lung if male, Hikage if female
Salandit: Jeice if male, Namira if female
Turtonator: Bowser

Tapu Koko: Voltron
Lunala: Pandora

Pyukumuku - Lotion Fluids, Wet Fluids, Dumpin' Out, or Love Spit
Rowlet - N/A
Sandalit - DastardPSN, Pipin'Sneak
Mudsdale - Bulwark, BodyBag, FieldShield

Oricorio (Sensu Style) - Entwine, Japansy
Oricorio (Pa'u Style) - Left Flow, Right Flow, L&R-Flow
Rockruff - Bony Stones
Comfey - Tran Q' uil (Bad Perfume Product, yes? Haha), Scent Spray, LUSH
Cutiefly - I-Fly (I spy with my little eye), Fuzzy Fly, Touchy Bug

The ones I bold are definitely the ones I'm gonna use in-game/online for later use. I'm still trying to think up so future good ones for the others. Don't know yet.

Starry Windy September 24th, 2016 7:04 AM

I've been thinking of some names in order recently:

Solgaleo: 超绝 (chāojué, lit. meaning superb). Inspired from a certain Sentai power-up there.
Oranguru (tentative): 先生. Since this 'mon teaches stuffs, I think it wouldn't be more appropriate than calling it sensei.

LadyLucina September 24th, 2016 1:01 PM

In all honesty, I'd nickname my Rowlett Vanoss after VanossGaming.

Ullion September 24th, 2016 2:56 PM

Thinking of nicknaming my Vikavolt as Kolaghan. Still thinking for the rest of my team though ):

MarinoKadame September 24th, 2016 5:19 PM

Oranguru: Harambe

clbgolden September 24th, 2016 6:21 PM

Out of a couple of my potiential team members:

Vikavolt: Volt
Litten: Blaze or Chat Noir
Bewear: Cubby
Crabrawler: Mac or Lil' Mac
Passimian: RG3
Mudsdale: Bailey, Clyde, or Dale
Jangmo-o: Maui
Lycanroc (Midday): Hunter

Firox September 24th, 2016 10:29 PM

So far from the 3 Pokemon I plan on using:
Litten: if it's male I'll call him Milo or if it's female I'll call her Kiara
Alola Vulpix: if it's male I'll call him Renard, or if it's a female I'll call her Sophie
Eevee: if it's male I'll call him Mozart, or if it's a female I'll call her Fiona

dat Chinese tho

I don't know why, but I want to name my A-Vulpix "Canada".
The rest i'll probably call "mistake" or "filler".

dontstay96 September 26th, 2016 7:19 PM

Lycanrock (Sun) - Stark, yeah, because Game of Thrones.
Salandit - Iago, he just looks evil as fu ck, and Iago is the villian in Shakepeare's Othello, and he's evil as fu ck.
Rowlet - Papageno, from Mozart's opera The Magic Flute.
Vikavolt - Kabuterimon, because Digimon, or Buzkill, depends on what I feel like in the moment of my capture.
Passimian - DICKS OUT (Sorry, I have to, even if it's not a gorilla)
Wishiwashi - Infinite Sushi

Cyrain September 29th, 2016 4:00 AM

I never plan a team for my first playthrough and when I give nicknames they are always spontanous. For Sun and Moon I changed my plan a little bit. To honor the colour/rainbow theme, I'll name all my catched pokémon after matching colours. So red pokémon(scarlet, ruby, rose), blue ones(azure, indigo, cobalt) and so on. Seems fitting for such a colourfull region:).

Sheep October 2nd, 2016 8:10 AM

I'm going nicknameless again lol. I used to nickname mine since the ALLCAPS names bothered me, but since we don't have that anymore there's no need to worry. Might try giving my main team dessert/fruit-based names again.. but chances are it's a theme that won't stick. ;c Since I'd want to nickname everything I catch to match and that'll get tedious.

Or maybe.. hm.. I might try anyway. Themed nicknames actually sound very cute if I can keep up with it.

Peaches the Bewear sounds adorable haha

I'll definitely be nicknaming my Pokémon, but I normally don't plan them out in advance or have a set theme - I just go with whatever feels right at the time. Sometimes they're named after characters from books/movies/TV shows, sometimes they're puns, sometimes they're random names - I guess we'll just see how I'm feeling on the day!

Astinus October 2nd, 2016 4:46 PM

During my first playthrough, I won't be using nicknames. I like to keep the species name so I can learn who all the new Pokemon are as I play through the story for the first time.

After that, I might use a Hawaiian-based naming theme, especially for a Nuzlocke. I don't know what theme to use in particular, but I'm sure I'll find one.

Sabrewulf238 October 3rd, 2016 3:53 PM

I don't think I'll nickname my Pokemon. I usually don't since I don't think I'm very good at nicknaming.....plus I spend AGES at the naming screen trying to think of something good and then I just get annoyed because it's taking so long.

The only time I nicknamed my Pokemon was when I played Pokemon Black (it wasn't the first gen 5 game I played, I started with White)

I think it was...

Serperior - "Sprout"
Scrafty - "Yesterday" (I really liked this name, it was a bit different)
Golurk - "L-B09" (Pronounced Elbow 9, I think I had this headcanon that it had other numbered siblings who were also "Elbows")
Gothitelle - "Willow" (Probably influenced by Willow from Buffy)
Stoutland - "Mac"
Galvantula - "Fritz"

So I'm not sure how good my naming skills are. :P

I guess I might start thinking about nicknames for Moon, though I only have two planned team members so far. (Rowlet & Drampa)

(Actually I think I nicknamed my Pokemon in ORAS too....)

RetroPokeman October 3rd, 2016 6:07 PM

I plan to name my future turtonator Tokka. I might name vikavolt after a transformer since it's somewhat robotic in appearance.

feniter91 October 7th, 2016 12:11 PM

I know what my nicknames is going to be. Theme? Greek mythology :D

Popplio - Ariadne
A fire type - Hephaestus
Alolan Exeggutor - Dionysus
Alolan Ninetales - Aphrodite
Alolan Raichu - Perseus
And a Flying type pokemon - Aeolus

I just like the greek mythology much. Don't ask why so many Alolan pokemon. I just like them :P

Altairis October 7th, 2016 1:20 PM

All I know is I'm gonna have a female Ninetales named Shirayuki. Not sure about Raichu, Lurantis, and Rockruff yet :( I had a name for Rockruff buuuut I forgot haha.

Florges October 9th, 2016 11:18 AM

All I can think of so far:

Rowlet: Gundham
Pikipek: Peko
Cutiefly: Hiyoko
Rockruff: Makoto
Lurantis: Junko

A lot of the Pokemon remind me of Danganronpa characters, especially Rockruff and Dartrix.

NohBuddy2016 October 9th, 2016 11:20 AM

I never name my Pokemon, mainly cause I'd forget who is who.

Thunderflare October 12th, 2016 9:07 AM

If I can nickname Ash-Greninja, he's going to be Sotishi. Litten will be known as Calamity. And I'm going to name Lediba after my girlfriend, because I call her "my little ladybug".

Don't look at me like that.

Rain October 13th, 2016 4:20 PM

So far I've come up with:
Salandit: Malice
Palossand: Versailles
Minior: Konpeito

Adam Levine October 15th, 2016 9:43 PM

Some names:

Lurantis- Waifumon (Why am I like this)
Bewear- Monokuma (shrugs)
Turtonator- Bowser or Arnold (Schwarzenegger)
Alolan Muk- LSD or Skittles (get it? Taste the rainbow?)
Dartrix- Rich Kid

clbgolden October 16th, 2016 5:10 AM

Thinking of,

Bewear: Cuddles
Kommo-o: Mo-o
Silvally: Silver

... In case you couldn't tell already, I like my Pokémon nicknames simple.

Mikewind October 16th, 2016 5:34 AM

For popplio, probably Undine or maybe Palutena which is my Smash secondary

Kameken October 16th, 2016 8:23 AM

Alright, got a few more

Oranguru: Forever
Ribombee: Journey
Steenee: Elisa

KipKipFox October 16th, 2016 5:01 PM

Updated:

Torracat: Flametail
Midnight Lycanroc: Kodiak
Salandit: Toxic
Alolan Ninetales: Glacia
Alolan Raichu: Pancake
Silvally: Alpha
Kommo-o: Ramses
Tsareena: Nicki Minaj
Mimikyu: Napstablook
Lunala: Artemis
Zygarde: Hades

I'll probably want to get the other two starters in trade:

Dartrix: Soren
Brionne: Ariel

JoyStar October 17th, 2016 4:07 AM

Still deciding, especially since all the Pokemon haven't been revealed yet), but here's some ideas I have so far:

Rowlet (if Litten's final is the one from the leak) - Strix (Latin for Screech Owl), Archer (if the leaked final evolution is true), Soren or Ga'Hoole (from Guardians of Ga'Hoole), Doctor Hoot (because Doctor Who is awesome)
Litten - Brimstone (because of the alchemical marking), Tigerclaw, Brambleclaw,
Pikipek - Pearl
Type: Null/Sivally - Null, RKS, Alpha - I'm honestly not entirely sure what I want to nickname it, but all I know is I want one!
Mimkyuu - Pikaboo, Phantasma (Latin for spirit), Napstablook
Rockruff - Fell, Slavkaa, or Kar (a few of the moves from The Sight)

Duuuuude! insane- bowser- fire breathing dragon.
Alolan muk- no explanation needed

Starry Windy October 17th, 2016 5:17 PM

Lately I'm thinking of a name for Lycanroc Midnight Form, which may be subject to change: Either 狼人加鲁鲁兽 or 兽人加鲁鲁. In case you didn't know, both of these are how Chinese call WereGarurumon.

ThePokemonLeakGuy October 18th, 2016 4:18 AM

If Litten's final evolution is really a wrestler then John Cena

AmetsuCAT October 18th, 2016 12:31 PM

I hope to call my Lycanroc Midday form Balto, from the movie since it kind of looks like him. Litten I might call Koba, and my Silvally Chimera.

Zegner October 18th, 2016 5:38 PM

My Salandit (Female): Xerina
My Mimikyu (Male): Quirnél
My Oricorio Sensu (Female): Oryanthia
(I have no idea for my Popplio, Formantis, nor my... last Pokémon i don't have yet...)

Kameken October 18th, 2016 10:27 PM

Since catching the ultra beasts is apparently 100% a thing now, and since they are clearly just stands, I've decided to name them accordingly.
Spoiler:
I'll probably have to abbreviate a lot of them as I come up with more, but whatever

UB-01: [GLASS HOUSES]
UB-02 Absorption: [THE TOUCH]
UB-02 Beauty: [PRETTY WOMAN]

Karous October 18th, 2016 10:34 PM

I'm going to name my Rowlett Olive, after Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow. I soft reset for a female starter so I'm going with the female version of the name.

cyanidebaby October 23rd, 2016 11:45 AM

Litten- Kyra/Kiara (soft resetting for female, both mean dark lady)
Rowlet- (soft resetting female) Darcy
Popplio (soft resetting for female) Banshee
Alolan Exeggutor BrokeANut
Mimiku: Boggart
Rockruff: Griffgruff
Alolan Cubone WhoCriesNow?
Mudsdale: Carmen

Solar Snivy October 23rd, 2016 8:17 PM

Got a few of these:
  • For my Rowlet, I will do either Archer or Lily, depending on what gender it is. Unless I decide to soft reset for a shiny, in which case I will probably name it Pine or Conny (Conifer).
  • I will name my Pichu either Puka (for obvious reasons) or Finn because that sounds like a surfer's name.
  • Rockruff will be Ricky because alliteration. Never mind the fact that Ricky the Lycanroc is not alliterative.
  • Steenee will be Stella. (might not evolve it to Tsareena)
  • Oricorio (either pompom or hawaiian) will be Lulu
  • Mimikyu: Aime from the french word meaning to like or to love
  • Pikipek will be called Pikmin because "Picky Pikmin, Pikipek, picked a peck of purple pickled pik piks"

Arjay October 24th, 2016 10:48 AM

Oranguru - King Louie
Dartrix (because I ain't evolving him into THAT thing) - Achilles
Mudsdale - Clyde

Haven't decided what else I want on my team yet. Probably Baile style Oricorio depending on how early it's obtainable.

JoshTheTrainer October 24th, 2016 12:24 PM

I'm gonna call them: Glaceon, Glaceon, Glaceon, Glaceon... oh yeah, and maybe Glaceon.
Nah, I'm just kidding. I don't really give my Pokémon nickname. I have no clue what to call them. Maybe I should name my main Pokémon after the girl that got me into the newer Pokémon games I used to chat daily with... :P

PageEmp October 24th, 2016 6:00 PM

Eh, I'll just do my usual naming scheme for regular play, which is whatever comes to my mind. So my names will probably be random.

WingsofBliss October 24th, 2016 6:16 PM

I think it'll depend on the gender... I would like to get a female Salandit and name it Sandy, and name my Rowlet Kiwi.

Darkbirt October 25th, 2016 1:34 AM

I usually don't give my Pokémons nicknames, but if I catch a male Gumshoos I just need to call him Trump.

Azire October 25th, 2016 1:46 AM

What is this nicknaming business of which you speak?

IndigoMoon October 25th, 2016 8:57 AM

I started thinking about it, and I already have some vague idea (I want to nickname my Rockruff Rough for example), but actually going by a theme this time would be nice! Maybe I'll use song names, I'll just have to go through my youtube playlists for inspiration ^^

calebsdogsdrule October 28th, 2016 11:11 AM

Poptart

Knyte October 28th, 2016 6:11 PM

For Rowlet: Archimedes/Archermedes (from Sword in the Stone)
jangmo-o: stays
wishiwashi: Merlin (a reference to the wizard teacher)
Spoiler:
get schooled

mimikyu: haven't thought of one yet
oricorio: stays
lycanroc: Howlycan or Lycanthroar (because rock-ruff)

hijhiysonikku October 29th, 2016 3:35 PM

Rowlet - Lilo
Type: Null - Unodostres

I generally don't nickname my Pokemon, I am quite fond of their given names.

Primarina: Lyria or maybe Caballe (A famous opera songstress surname.)
Lycanroc midnight: Flannel (From FE Fates.)
Oricorio Baile: Lorena (My friend´s OC that also dances flamenco.)

i like to name my Pokemon after moves, or sometimes abilities, or other references.
for example,
Deino-Hustler
INfernape-Heat Wave, etc.

I'm thinking for solgaleo, iron head, for jangmo-o, Head-BUTT, mimikyu- hex, rowlet- leif, type:null, (if he can learn this) body-slam, rockruff(the exception), THE ROCK

I haven't really decided my team(s) yet, but if I end up naming my Pokemon at all this time around then I'll probably go for Japanese nicknames since the protagonist is originally from Kanto.
