pokerus

yay i just got it in emerald i've heard of it but what does it exactly mean?

charizard_maa May 4th, 2005 2:47 AM

It a virus that effects your pokemon.

Its a good virus. It makes training so freaking easy. It like double(or triple I think) your pkmn experence points at the end of the batte. I hread it was hard to get but if you put it in your pokemon team long enoth then it will effect them too. Man if i had pokemon effect by that then training in ruby would be so easy.

Dude your lucky,

Anyway pokerus is a virus that appears ramdonly thoughout the game.It has something do with Ev's or something. But you should ask someone you knows.

Pokerus Info.

Okay, here's what I know about Pokerus:

It's a virus, but it's a good one (Think of what happened to John Travolta in "Phenomenon," but without the death thing at the end, lol). When your Pokemon has Pokerus, it will gain double the EVs (effort values) every time you battle. The effects only last for three days, however, so you have to be fast.

Pokerus can be held in a suspended animation of sorts by putting the affected Pokemon in the PC. It won't lose it until it's spent three days outside. So the smartest thing to do if you ever catch it is to infect a bunch of pokemon and put some of them in your PC for safekeeping. That way you can infect others later on.

Oh, and I forgot. You can spread the virus to your other teammates. If the "afflicted" pokemon is in your team, and you battle, there's a chance that the pokemon on either side of him/her will catch Pokerus, whether they or he battles or not. So ideally, you can inflict Pokerus on the Pokemon you want to EV train, and they'll train faster.

EV training is actually very good, especially if you ever want to battle your pokemon against live opponents like your friends. Having a super-fast Pokemon, or one with Super-attack can be really helpful in certain situations. I recommend it if you're a real hardcore trainer, but it can make progressing through the game a real pain.

You can tell if your pokemon has pokerus by its status area (the little area below its picture on the stats page). Although I don't know if it appears there before or after you're diagnosed at the Poke center. Oh yeah, and Nurse Joy will let you know if one of your Pokemon has Pokerus, but only once. She won't tell you again after that.

And finally, for those who want to catch pokerus, you can do one of two things. A: you catch a pokemon that has it. B: you battle a wild pokemon that has it, and it infects you. I'm pretty sure that you only have a certain percentage chance of catching it via B, but I may be wrong. Anyway, it's so hard to get that I wouldn't recommend catching every Pokemon you find to try to get it. It's like the Shinies. Just go about your business and forget about it. It may show up when you least expect it!

Woah. That's a mouthful of info. @@

I remember catching Pokérus on Sapphire. I didn't know what it was, so I freaked out. But a Pelipper in my PC still has it, so all is well. ^^

There was a thread like this before and this should help.^^ http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=991399&postcount=4

Pokerus is a virus, a very good one. You get it when a Pokemon you catch has a purple dot next to their status. If a Pokemon you caught has that, than the EXP it gets during battle triples or doubles depending ont he Pokemon. If you keep it in your team or Pokemon box, the rest of your Pokemon will be infected as well. When you try to heal your Pokemon at the Poke Center, Nurse Joy will say your Pokemon has Pokerus. But be warned: Pokerus only lasts 3 days, so use it wisely and as much as possible.

United squirtle May 7th, 2005 3:55 PM

I found a site that said how to do it on pokemon gold, silver, crystal.

You do not DO Pokerus. You get it. You get the the same way you get it in R/S/E.

SleepyGomamon May 7th, 2005 4:32 PM

I have the good fortune of catching the pokerus in ruby. With it and the macho brace, it takes next to no time to EV train a pokemon. I was pretty pleased with only needing an hour or so to fully finish a freshly caught/bred pokemon. (8-12 EVs from most single fully evolved pokemon, Woo-hoo!)

the skate board kid May 7th, 2005 6:27 PM

I have three pokemon that have pokerus in FR. I was like wtf when I saw it in the corner. That'll be crazy if you get pokerus on a shiny, amazing.

Latias Lover! May 7th, 2005 7:20 PM

I have a Pokerus before, a really long time ago. I accidently healed the PokeRus at the Pokemon Center.

C Sherbii S May 8th, 2005 1:38 PM

You are soooo lucky. It is a rare virus. I got it once a long time ago and I was afraid of it.

Atemu May 9th, 2005 5:30 AM

I just got the pokerus yesterday accidently when I was playing emerald. It doesn't double the exp points you get. But it does give you double the EVs. Much to my disappointment it only lasted a day. Even when I stored all of the affected pokemon. But I was still happy to finally get something rare.

Yeah, same here. :( I traded over some of my Pokerus Pogeys from Sapphire into my emerald cartridge, and was like "Wtf!!!" Pokerus is supposed to last for three days, but it conked out after only one. :(

vonboy May 10th, 2005 6:50 PM

( That'll be crazy if you get pokerus on a shiny, amazing.)

That's like, very LUCKY!!

Atemu May 11th, 2005 3:18 AM

Yeah and the chances of it ever happening again are beyond extremely rare. But I wish I could at least get one shiny. The pokerus...well let's just not go there I'm already ticked off at it enough. One day...grrrrrrrr.

Lord Jaws May 11th, 2005 3:24 AM

It cant be that rare can it? I swear I have at least half a dozen pokemon on Sapphire with it, a couple on Colosseum, and a few on FireRed. And it does store in the PC.

Atemu May 11th, 2005 3:27 AM

Well then I just must be cursed I guess. Because I've played all of the pokemon games and have had yet to see a shiny (except Gyrados on Silver, Gold, and Crystal). Yup that's it, I'm cursed.

Lord Jaws May 11th, 2005 3:34 AM

I hope you didnt think I meant shinies, I was talkin about PokeRus. Ive seen 3 shinies on Silver (one which was the Gyrados), none on Sapphire and 2 on FireRed. Yet some ppl have half a dozen (noncheated ones) from one version! I do believe my Sapphire is cursed tho, Ive played it more than my FireRed.

Atemu May 11th, 2005 5:52 AM

Oh...oops I guess I was having another of my many blonde moments. Sorry. Okay now that I'm out of the twilight zone, the pokerus, while not as rare as a shiny is still quite rare. In other words you could play an entire game and still not get the pokerus. In this subject I'm cursed as well because although my pokemon contracted the pokerus they had it for less than a day. Which made me very unhappy.

Shuko May 11th, 2005 6:32 AM

Shinies are a lot less rare than Pokerus. The chances are better that you'll catch a shiny than you will a pokemon with Pokerus... but once someone gets the virus, they're likely to keep it alive, if they're smart. That might be why you've seen it around so much. :P

And I was the one who caught a shiny Ralts with Pokerus. Unfortunately, my little cousin restarted my game, and I lost 'im. :( He was my favorite... *cries all over again*

Atemu May 12th, 2005 5:52 AM

OMG your cousin...that really sucks. But I'm just going by what serebii.net says and they said that the pokerus is more common than shinies. I really have no idea and I really wasn't that concerned with keeping it alive seeing as how I never expected to get it in the first place.

Huh... well, it's not the first time I've been wrong, and I'm sure it won't be the last, lol. Sorry 'bout the misinformation!
Shiny ratio: 1 in 8192
Pokerus Ratio: Unknown. Serebii.net says it might be slightly better than ratio for shiny, although for gsc it was much lower than shiny ratio.
