gas prices rising...OMG it friggin sux! i'm getting my liscence and car when i'm 18, so by the time i get all that, i'll need a seperate account for gas! lol i hope they go down soon, although they're supposed to be over $3 this summer :(

SADM May 4th, 2005 2:04 PM

I am an american expatriate living in France
75$ to fill up your tank.
Thats tough gass prices.
If China or Iran becomes more of a problem oil with rise to 80$ bucks a barrel and then we will see 5$ a gallon.

Lust May 4th, 2005 2:45 PM

Yeah, I heard that in Europe it would be over $5 a gallon.

Nine May 4th, 2005 4:07 PM

Gas prices are outrageous. Almost $2.45 here (Jax., FL.)

Since we're discussing current events...

What is everyone's opinion on the new Pope? =)

Lust May 4th, 2005 4:08 PM

He's old. He won't be there for long. Also, wasn't he a Nazi?

RaVen123456 May 4th, 2005 7:12 PM

yeap, an ex-Nazi soildier, right under Hitler....hmm, maybe the false prophet the bible was talking about???

Nine May 4th, 2005 7:31 PM

No he wasn't. He was in Youths for Hitler (or something like that), which was a requirement for all German youth. Except the Jews, 'cause Hitler hated them. He didn't have a choice. =\

Edit: HI HT!!!! *glomptacklecling* <333333333333333333333

HoundoomTrainer May 4th, 2005 7:35 PM

The pope was forced into the whole Nazi thing or he would've died. Not a big choice there guys.

Pope Ratzinger “Bad News”
For Secularism, Freedom
Warns Atheist Civil Rights Group
The selection of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as the new pope (Benedict XVI) is “bad news” for civil liberties and the rights of women, gays, intellectuals and other secularists throughout the world, warned an Atheist civil rights watchdog group today.

Ellen Johnson, President of American Atheists, noted that the new pontiff demonized atheism, individualism and other alleged ills during a papal conclave mass. She added that Ratzinger, former head of the papal office which ran the Inquisition and sniffs out dissent within church ranks, is the foremost advocate of “reconverting” Europe to Catholicism, and is a leading opponent of secularism.

“Ratzinger is even more extreme that Pope John Paul II. He opposes many of the civil liberties that Americans take for granted including equal rights, dissent from religion, and even free speech. He clearly sees government as a servant and instrument of the church.”

Johnson added that the new pope will likely embrace policies which inflame the civilizational conflict between Islam and the west, and cited Ratzinger’s opposition to allowing Turkey to join the European Union. “He’s got the mentality of a Crusader, and his attitudes will provide new ammunition to Islamic extremists like Osama bin Laden.”

Dave Silverman, Communications Director for American Atheists, said that expects that as a result of Ratzinger’s rise to the papal throne, U.S. Bishops could become more aggressive in the political arena and intensify their efforts for government aid to religious schools, banning abortion and carrying out the Vatican’s global agenda. “The American Religious Civil War has just gone nuclear,” said Silverman.

American Atheists is a nationwide movement which defends the civil rights of nonbelievers, works for the separation of church and state, and addresses issues of First Amendment public policy.

That's a good summary of my thoughts.

Man.. I told you that when there is a pope that borns in a eclipse and that when they put it in the altar in a eclipse, it means that there will be 2 more popes and then the anticrist will be created, that says in the bible.

SADM May 5th, 2005 8:50 AM

Well this pope was basically chosen becouse they couldnt pick a good one.
I dont believe the antichrist is coming but it will be interesting to see what moves this pope makes.
This pope was requiered to be Hitler youth ,if he had refused he and his family would have been sent to the camps.

Ryoutarou May 5th, 2005 8:55 AM

Yes, he was requiered, that doesn't mean he wanted to be. Oh, and it was for what? One day that he was there, then the war ended. This is actually a good pope for the church, old yes, but they wanted someone would was likewise in views to that of the last one.

And I've never once read in the bible it saying that this pope would mean the end of the world. Nostradamus said a dark skinned pope would signal the downfall of the Catholic church. Coming from Nostradamus I don't believe it, a lot of his predictions came true because he made as many predictions a day as I make post a day.

SADM May 5th, 2005 9:19 AM

Thankyou, I am glad someone believes that Nostramdamous is a load of bull.
the old process of trial and error works very well.

Lust May 5th, 2005 6:07 PM

Weren't some popes really bad and raped women?

RaVen123456 May 5th, 2005 7:01 PM

well, i don't study the bible, this is just a summary of what i read in the king james version. and on the Nazi thing, that's basically what i meant, but i prefer to summerize than to detail. lol

um...i dunno about the evil popes that raped women, you'd have to ask a christian

SADM May 6th, 2005 9:40 AM

LPM:read on the crusades and see the movie Kingdom of heavon, while popes did not do it directly he has been responsible for Massacres, invasions and a little know fact from WW2 I will not say on this board becouse it is very contreversial(PM if you are curious).
Another Topic, do people here support the war in Iraq or not?

Actually, some popes have gone as far as to start wars. So, they haven't always been great.

And RaVen, popes aren't Christian.

SADM May 6th, 2005 10:02 AM

Christian is a broad catagory the encompasses many sects.
Catholicism is just one of the sects.

Not this pope, next pope.

SADM May 6th, 2005 1:26 PM

If it will ever happen. Nostradamus is not what I would call a valid source.

Of course. Don't forget indulgences, simony, etc.

So what is everyone's view on the gas prices?

chrno May 6th, 2005 7:14 PM

Dont forget electricity, in USA if you use more is cheaper but here if you use more it is more expensive.

Lust May 6th, 2005 10:49 PM

I would say that the last Pope was one of the great ones.
