no snakes in the grass cause i mowed it

what is your usual course of action when you spot unwanted vermin and other unsavory creatures in or around your home? do you kill them? do you scream and ask someone else to kill them? do you try to capture them and relocate them?

Somewhere_ September 28th, 2016 3:00 PM

If its a large bug, I take out my airsoft shotgun because 1) its more fun 2) actually kills 3) dont have to touch the bug

I dont like big bugs (zero tolerance), so thats my first choice. Of course I make sure to clean up the remains. If its a small bug, I just smash it and throw it out.

Snakes are too big of an issue. Its mostly harmless baby garden snakes that get into the house, which can easily be removed and let outside. As with lizards, but I usually let lizards stay around... The same lizard live in the bathroom for a few weeks one time. Idk if thats weird, but whatever. We were both happy with it I guess.

i just run away honestly. i have learned to deal with small bugs though. im making baby steps

5qwerty September 28th, 2016 3:33 PM

I usually spare spiders by using tissue and sending them outside.

Other stuff I kill. I heard some bugs are edible.

tokyodrift September 28th, 2016 3:36 PM

Scream like a little school girl.

And then proceed to either kill it or capture it and release it outside.

I don't know if I've shared this on PC before but once, a giant moth flew into my bathroom - I collected my toothbrush and toothpaste, shut the door and put up a sticky note on it that said "MOTH", then went to brush my teeth downstairs that night instead.

The next morning, I see the door is still closed and inferred that no one took care of the moth for me, so I cracked the door open and looked inside - the moth was chilling in the sink, and I quickly grabbed a bowl to cover it, then restickied the "MOTH" note over the bowl. There's two sinks in my bathroom, so I just used the other one. For 3 weeks. And the moth bowl stayed there. For 3 weeks.

Of course the moth is dead at this point, but the thought of picking up the massive dead moth still made my skin crawl, so eventually I just asked my dad to take care of it for me. He said the moth was all dried and shriveled up.

tl;dr I go to great lengths to not touch bugs, luckily no rats or snakes around here

I'm the mom friend and the one that gets things done so I'm the one that deals with the bugs. Normally by squishing, but I'll rescue spiders sometimes.

This most of the time, but sometimes I'll just leave them be.

gimmepie September 28th, 2016 6:33 PM

I prefer to relocate if possible but that's not always easy when dealing with dinner plate sized spiders or dugites.

Desert Stream~ September 28th, 2016 6:39 PM

I try to intimidate it and shoo it away. I'd rather not kill other bugs.
It ususally doesn't work, so I have to wait for someone else to handle it.

tranceking26 September 29th, 2016 5:19 AM

It all depends what mood I'm in. It will either be a crush against the wall or hoovered up for the spiders.

Flies get swiped at with my oven glove until they go out the window.

Nah September 29th, 2016 5:26 AM

Insects and spiders die if I can get them. Other than that it's extremely rare for other animals to actually get into the house.

The other day at work though a small snake somehow managed to get inside the building. Managed to coax it outside with a pole.

In general it's an exaggeration but they can get close to that. When I was a kid I came home from school to find a truly ridiculously sized huntsman (I think) on the wall and I remember it to this day lol.

It's South America that gets the really crazy big bugs though.

If you're looking to avoid spiders the only place you'll be happy is Antarctica. They've still got rats though. You can't win.

moon September 29th, 2016 8:23 AM

I don't have any vermin. I like my home. <3

Esper September 29th, 2016 9:14 AM

Worst I've had to deal with is ants and fruit flies and you just leave a trap for them and they die and go away on their own eventually. Sometimes there are spiders, but I leave them alone mostly or throw them outside since they're generally good at eating other bugs.

Belinda September 29th, 2016 1:28 PM

The timing of this thread is actually hilarious because I dealt with an unwanted ant invasion yesterday up until today. I haven't seen many today in the house thankfully because I spent hours on end trying to get rid of them. They took over my kitchen so I had to squash every little bugger. There seem to be an ant colony outside my front door so I know this is an issue when the weather is extremely humid. I use a natural bug spray plus used boiling hot water and threw it all on them outside. I know this sounds insane but it actually helped in my case. Other than that I'll freak the fuck out if it's a spider, I know most are harmless so I tend to let them go about their day. But if multiple spiders start showing up I'll take action. No way in hell they are going to take over my room. And I had a termite infestation last year so I had to vacate my room because they were everywhere. I got really anxious and didn't feel comfortable in my room for a long time afterwards the problem was fixed by a termite specialist.

Sylphiel September 29th, 2016 1:46 PM

If it's something like a fly or a cockroach (thankfully I don't recall seeing the latter here much at all), they're dead. Especially the flies, but it's annoying because what I get are fruit flies and those seem to be a pain to get rid of. I mean, I could just give up fruit and not have to deal with them at all, but forget that!

Anything else I'll catch and release. Even spiders. I've done that to plenty of spiders, though I've stopped doing even that as much in recent years because apparently that's still not the best option for what I want to accomplish (good chances are it's a spider that's adapted to living in human places and can't survive long out in the wild anyway - I don't want to kill them, I just want them out of my way!). Ideally I'll just let the spider be, and let it do its own thing in a corner while it avoids me.

Although bees and wasps...oh I'll try to put them outside for sure. Usually by opening a door and getting something to hide behind (a broom comes to mind), and making vague motions in the direction of said bee while I am halfway across the room in the hopes it gets the hint. Please bee, please.

Caite-chan September 29th, 2016 2:15 PM

If it's a bug, spider or a bee I will usually try and kill it. Especially if it's a wasp because the cats will try and get it and I don't want them getting stung.

For several years though we had to deal with a (Zu)bat problem. Those I would throw a towel over and put back outside. I would never kill one of those. On one or two occasions I had the cat bring a bat up from the basement and I would yell at him to drop it because the last thing I need is the cat getting rabies. We were finally able to fix our bat problem and we haven't had them in the house for a few years now. :D

^ Me. Also, Nick Wilde ftw. *q*

I hate spiders the most. I'll either spray them with Raid, or I'll have my dad kill them. I just can't stand this little shits. They terrify me way beyond reason. ;~; Other bugs I could careless about and can pretty much kill all on my own. It does depend on the bug though. If it's a cockroach... oh god...

Overlord Drakow September 30th, 2016 2:11 PM

Most of the responses in this thread greatly disappoint me. I have several spiders that live in my flat but I leave them be. Much rather have them around than other bugs like flying insects. In general I let nature do its thing, there's a pretty big spider in my bedroom at the moment but he/she usually lurks away from my sight - occasionally though I do see him/her stalking around. Zero fucks given mate. Does not bother me in the slightest, I sleep just fine, IT'S ALL BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR ME, YOU WEAK ASS COWARDS!

Thepokefansophia October 2nd, 2016 5:03 AM

I am a big baby so I shout my step-dad and he gets the spider and takes it outside.
But I never seen a rat/other vermin in my own home.
Even though I keep telling my self they are harmless I still get scared.

blue October 2nd, 2016 5:51 AM

If it is a spider then I'll trap it and release it outside. I don't have the heart to kill them lmao.

Alex October 2nd, 2016 9:05 AM

I usually leave them be. But one time a fly got into my apartment right before I wanted to go to sleep and instead of swatting it I shooed it into the bathroom, shut the door and went to sleep. Dealt with that sucker in the morning.
