^^NICK^^ v.4.0 May 8th, 2005 9:16 AM

More problems, please help

Everything on my desktop, except my icons, is covered by this black, "permanant" pop-up thing. In the middle it says: "WARNING!
YOU'RE IN DANGER!

ALL YOU DO WITH COMPUTER IS STORED FOREVER IN YOUR HARD DISK. WHEN YOU VISIT SITES, SEND EMAILS... ALL YOUR ACTIONS ARE LOGGED. AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THEM WITH STANDARD TOOLS. YOUR DATA IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR FORENSICS. AND IN SOME CASES FOR YOUR BOSS, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR WIFE, YOUR CHILDREN.

Every site you or somebody or even something, like spyware, opened in your browser, with all images, and all downloaded and maybe later removed movies or mp3 songs - ARE STILL THERE and could broke your life!

SECURE YOURSELF RIGHT NOW!
REMOVE ALL SPYWARE FROM YOUR PC!

Removal instructions "

I've tried rebooting, several times. I tried changing my user account, and deleting all the files and everything from the old one. I keep running my anti-spyware stuff. Nothing is working to remove the annoying, desktop monster thing. Oh, and if you click the middle with the warnings, it gives you a link to the list of expensive spyware removers. Can anyone help?

Kyosuke May 8th, 2005 2:00 PM

Its definatly some sort of serious spyware, or a virus/worm.

Even after running all the anti-spyware/anti-virus stuff, the easiest thing to do now is backup all your important data, and reformat your computer... if you don't know how, I would advise to not do it XD.

But seriously, its one of the two I mentioned above, maybe try going into 'control panel' then 'add and remove programs' and try to uninstall anything that wasn't there before.

^^NICK^^ v.4.0 May 8th, 2005 2:03 PM

I remember that term, format. I think my uncle did it a few months back. I have no clue how to do it though. I would love to, but I don't know how.

DragonTrainer May 8th, 2005 2:08 PM

Reformatting is my best friend

Check to see if you have a recovery disk first, if so, just put it in, reboot, and follow the directions. It will restore your PC to how you first got it, and erase basically everything, meaning you gotta reinstall everything, but you will be virus/spyware free

Kyosuke May 8th, 2005 2:23 PM

Yes try and find a recovery disk if you bought a brand new computer that came with everything, but beofre you do all of that you should make a data cd of all the data that matters to you.

You can burn one with just using a program such as roxio, nero, etc.

DragonTrainer May 8th, 2005 2:24 PM

Or if you upgraded your OS, from like ME to XP, use the XP disk, because the recovery disk won't work if you upgraded your OS. It might, but it's easier to just run the upgrade disk =P

^^NICK^^ v.4.0 May 8th, 2005 2:31 PM

I have that disc, I remember from when my uncle did it. But I have two problems. I have don't know how to re/format, and when my uncle did it last time, the internet didn't work immediately, I had to do something special, and I think I forgot.

DragonTrainer May 8th, 2005 2:42 PM

Reformatting is uber easy, just stick the disk in, reboot, and basically follow the directions.

As for the internet, you will have to reinstall it, I'm afraid =/

Kyosuke May 8th, 2005 2:44 PM

If you have to reconfigure the internet settings, it would probably be better off to have your uncle help you with the reformat... or you could reformat THEN have your uncle help you.

DarkPegasus May 8th, 2005 2:52 PM

What the hell are you talking about, you don't need to format your hard drive, simply reinstal windows/linux/mac os x...

Kyosuke May 8th, 2005 3:11 PM

Ya but you do know, when you reinstall windows it deletes everything, so it basically is a reformat... unless your hard drive is partitioned.

^^NICK^^ v.4.0 May 8th, 2005 3:26 PM

Yeah, he partitioned it or something.

Kyosuke May 8th, 2005 3:40 PM

Hmm... it might be slightly harder if its partioned then, because usually a virus or spyware can have access to the other partitoned part of the hard drive.

But it still would be better to just reformat your entire hard drive, and restart fresh.

DarkPegasus May 9th, 2005 10:35 AM

No,a virus can't go from one hard drive(partition) to another, unless you have system files there,or you copy it there.Because a virus is programed to attack specific target. And yes when you reainstall Windows(well at least XP) all your data is preserved, exept your personal data(my documents, users data...)if you make you new username the way it was in the before reinstall time.

Pazuzu May 9th, 2005 11:08 AM

Before formating, I would suggest running SPybot S&D & Ad-Aware.
If that dosen't help, then you should format...

^^NICK^^ v.4.0 May 9th, 2005 11:57 AM

Ok, I reinstalled XP, and I think it's a new partition, I'm not sure, don't even understand it. But the old one is still there, I'm on it right now, because the new one doesn't have the internet yet. Speaking of that, I keep trying to use my Comcast CD to reinstall Comcast, but it won't work. It's trying to detect a network connection, somethign like that, but the computer can't find it, but I know I'm connected it whatever it is, because the internet works fine on this partition thing. Help? Oh yeah, is there anyway I can delete this partition?

Geometric-sama May 11th, 2005 9:01 PM

Not without formatting it, unless you use special software...

^^NICK^^ v.4.0 May 13th, 2005 11:59 AM

Could you tell me how to format, please?

Geometric-sama May 13th, 2005 8:09 PM

Basically, in order to remove that partition without buying special software, you'll need to delete everything from your computer including the operating system by formatting the hard drive, and then reinstalling stuff without making the partition. It's probably easier to buy a program like PartionMagic or whatever it's called.

Charizard_Fire_God June 1st, 2005 3:51 AM

Yup. It's adware. >_<

Tch. Anyone of these things should help:
-anti-spyware soft
-anti-adware soft
-antivirus soft
-firewall soft
Firewall can help if it's a really advanced one, an' a good antivirus can too, but the best would be some anti-spy/adware software. ^_^

I would recommend:
-anti-virus = Norton Anti-virus
-anti-spy/adware = Microsoft AntiSpyware(only works for Win 2000/XP), or SpySweeper(other OS)
-firewall= ZoneAlarm

If ya need any o' these just PM me an' I can send 'em to ya complete with registration. ^_^
...all except for SpySweeper that is... >_<

...alternatively ya could identify it in the running processes list that pops up with ctrl+alt+del, search for it in Program Files or Windows, delete it, an' then run regedit an' take it outta the registry too, an' even run msconfig ta make it not run on startup anymore, tch, all processes run on startup are in the Startup tab. XD

Geometric-sama June 1st, 2005 6:34 PM

I think he formatted already didn't he?

http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojfavaddc.html That was what he had. It's a trojan.
