Pokemon you never thought you would use but ended up using.

Guys, are there any of the new Pokemon that did not appeal to you at first but you ended up loving them and actually used them? What Pokemon did you think won't make it too much but ended up being one of the powerhouses in your team?

I have 2 Pokemon that really went beyond my expectation!

http://serebii.net/art/th/746.png
Wishiwashi appeared to me as a puny lil' fish whom gather in a group, but they can't be that strong even so, right? Ended up they've proven me so wrong! No wonder Gyaradoses are afraid of them when they group up!

Wishiwashi is now part of my permanent team!

http://serebii.net/art/th/750.png

Oh, and the second is this-- Mudsdale.
When I first saw Mudbray, I was like, eyy, it looks so silly and weak.
Being a Ground type have so much weaknesses too-- Water, Grass that are very common this generation. But jolly, Mudsdale's saved me tons of times in the game!
Though he's not in my permanent team now that I've got my Kommo-o, I am considering using this Pokemon in my permanent team should I decide to buy Pokemon Sun!

Pikipek evolution line (mine is currently a trumbeak). It is currently my go to Pokemon when things get dicey.

The Pokemon I didn't think I'd get is Litten. I found the design of the entire evolution line average, but I guess I made fun of it so much I ended up liking it.

Crabrawler. I thought I would reject it because the design was meh to me but it's become pretty handy and I do need a fighting type on my team that can dish out the physical side of things.

Sheep November 19th, 2016 7:11 PM

Agreed with Mudsdale! I'm currently training my Mudbray and can't wait for it to evolve. The design is cool, but I never thought I'd actually use it since it's not the type of Pokémon I would usually use. But it is very useful and I love it now. :D

Thunderflare November 19th, 2016 10:31 PM

Once I saw how tough Hala's Crabrawler was, I decided to try it out. I'm really liking it.

Cutiefly so far! He has great super effectives & resists to dark and fighting that would have given me trouble on the first trial / grand trial. He also resists grass and ground that have appeared on the second island. He's such a cutie patootie when his beady eyes look so sad when he has dirt, sand, or water droplets on him in Pokemon Refresh. ;-; I groom him after every battle. I like this mechanic as it made me bond so quickly with all of my Pokemon.
I deposited Trumbeak and Mudsbray though as they couldn't keep up with the rest of my team. D:

SaniOKh November 20th, 2016 6:04 AM

I never thought I would have Raticate and Raichu on my team. The former, because it's a com mon without a secondary type (well, this time it's Dark-typed so it's better) and the latter, because of my hatred for its whole evolutionary family (especially the one in the middle).

Both turned out to be kinda disappointing. But, hey, it was my first playthrough, next time I'll know better.

Ah yes, those! They were pretty strong for such small little things too!
And they evolve quite early, which is a good thing.

I don't like the Pikachu-line but Alolan Raichu looks so good, I might start working on one of them!

I'll never be able to relate to Alolan Raticates though i love them Alolan Rattatas.

ShinyHoundoom November 20th, 2016 4:55 PM

Alolan Ninetales. Somehow going from pure Fire to Ice/Fairy made some appeal to me. Magnezone I never thought I would use either, but I saw it early game and was like "Sure."

Grimer was never a Pokemon I was terribly fond of, and its Alolan form didn't really do anything to change my opinion, but.....it's been surprising useful. I caught one just for the hell of it in the grass near the Trainer School, not intending to use it. But I.....kinda was having trouble with Illima at the Marina (Rowlet could not just handle both his Pokemon), and so I was like fuck it let's throw this shit in there, and that was all the difference needed to win. And it's been fairly helpful since then (I'm on Route 5 btw).

I actually kinda want to keep it on the team for the whole game. This would mean not using Salandit like I was planning to, since I usually don't like doubling up on types, but hey, multiple playthroughs are a thing.

TheLegendaryGuy November 20th, 2016 11:35 PM

Its this guy. http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/1/14/736Grubbin.png/250px-736Grubbin.png

First look at Grubbin, and I had my mind screaming to me at the top of its voice about the pokemon being garbage. But since I am doing a nuzlocke, and it was my first encounter in the area, I had to catch it, despite not wanting to.
It is now a Vikavolt, and has become a very very very important member of my team, by saving me from many close to whiting out situations.

hoshizorashiro November 21st, 2016 1:29 AM

I have an Alolan Grimer and Meowth on my team and I don't think I've ever used their non-alolan forms in any game prior to this gen to be honest.

I want to give all the new forms a try so definitely a great choice redesigning some pokes for this new game!

adelgirl November 21st, 2016 2:25 AM

I definitely agree with mudsdale. Some of my friends love it, but it does not really appeal to me.

I really don't like Marianne or it's evolution Toxapex. They kind of creep me out, and look lore like yu-gi-oh creatures than pokemon.

I also don't like Dewpider or it's evolution, Araquanid. I hate bugs, even in a fictional world like pokemon, and these ones look too much like bugs for my taste.

The last one I really don't like is Turtonator. Dragon type are my favorite type of pokemon, but I really cannot get past the design of this pokemon to even try and like it

I hate bugs too, but instead of Dewpider, I dislike Cutiefly for looking too much like a real life bug.

I'm actually ok with Cutiefly, though I would still never want it on my team

Uh, but that sounds a bit off-topic then, unless you are currently using them?

blue November 21st, 2016 8:08 AM

Salandit is one that I wasn't planning on using until yesterday. Despite already having Fire coverage from Torracat, I decided to add Salandit to my party and I definitely don't regret doing so!

Smooth Vibes November 21st, 2016 8:21 AM

I'm surprised Grubbin (and evos) has been on my team this long. I caught it for the dex entry but now I just love him. Decent move pool for an early bug pokemon.

I planned my entire team, but when I have free slots I put Pokemon that need to evolve there so I can fill up the Pokedex while playing the game. Just got to Ula'ula island and I only have 4 Pokemon on my team, so I have 2 "filler" slots until I can get Ice Vulpix and Jangmo-o.

Alola Grimer has been in one of those slots since the Trainers School and... it's kind of been the secret MVP. My "real" team got completely rekt by Totem Lurantis (Lycanroc, Brionne, Pikachu... nothing really resists it there) and Grimer ended up being the hero of the battle. Never expected it to be as good as it was, kinda thought it would be "meh" and frail and weak and I would never have to use it.

Still ugly though haha.

Esper November 21st, 2016 9:44 AM

Grubbin hasn't left my team since I got it, which is a surprise. It's been one of my best 'mons, especially once it evolved. It's got a pretty great move pool for such a low level.

At first, I wasn't too terribly fond of Lycanroc-Midnight. If Sun was my main game instead of Moon, I would've been more satisfied mostly because Midday seems to have better stats, but man, I can't tell you how many times Midnight form managed to save my ass against so many important people in the story. It's actually one of my most useful party members simply because it's so easy to set up Bulk Up + destroy everything either with Continental Crush or just some other move. The increased bulk is also very welcome because despite how it looks, it can most definitely take a few hits.

It's just so ridiculously easy to steamroll NPCs with Midnight that it's laughable.

I am not someone whom look at stats luckily!
I've always loved the Midnight form more than the Midday for some reasons, I like his cheeky and insanity overloaded look!
Mine was a real powerhouse too.

thedestinedblade November 21st, 2016 12:14 PM

Minior, man. I remember not thinking much of it back when it was revealed, but having used one for a little bit now, I can say it's easily my favorite Gen 7 pokemon so far. The little gumball meteorite is fun to use with a pretty diverse movepool, and an ability that is actually really good. It comes in 8 different flavors too, lol. Unfortunately the coolest looking one, the black core, is it's shiny color.

TrendyHipsta November 21st, 2016 7:54 PM

The only Bug Pokémon I actually use is Surskit! I loved it's Bug/Water Typing and I always used it for gimmicks. Now Dewpider and Araquid comes! I LOVE IT SO MUCH GUYS! It's everything I wanted it to be! It's a Sp. Def Bug Type! It looks cool! It the Pyschic Types worst nightmare! I can just can't! Someone hold my hand my... I can't wait to finish the game and breed for a Shiny one!!!

I can definitely comment you on this since I used Midnight Lycanroc as well, and trust me it's not as bad as people think it is, but that's coming from people who prefer Midday Form's superior Speed and signature move Accelerock, but Midnight Form's design is really awesome and it surprisingly did me very well in the main story. I'm someone who never uses Rock-types a lot, but my Midnight Lycanroc definitely proved her (mine was female fyi) worthiness, and getting the Rock Z-Move Continental Crush only just made her even more of a champ.

Midnight Form has slightly better defenses and HP than Midday Form, but that doesn't mean you can't give it a try. Definitely a word of advice I'd give to Moon players that's for sure, because Lycanroc is a definite powerhouse of the generation.

My Stufful was bred to have ice punch and thunder punch. I thought Bewear was going to be another jokemon made for novelty, but my Bewear will wreck lives once stufful evolves.
