Worst parts of SM!
Just like the Favorite parts of Sun and Moon, I want you guys to tell us what were the worst parts of SM. Personally, I haven't gotten the game yet, and knowing that the Oddish line, and Solrock and Lunatone aren't obtainable ingame makes me turned off by the games already, even though it is kinda superficial for me to say, but like why wouldn't you add those Pokemon in the regional dex, like I cannot fathom how GF thought to add fossil Pokemon from other Gens, but not these Pokemon, that actually do make sense to be in this region, smh
|
I really hate the amount of cut-scenes in the games. Want to add more cinematic to the games? All the power to you Gamefreak! The majority of it looks fantastic! Just don't make it so I have a 5 minute cut scene, only to take like 10 steps forward and be in another cut scene! This happens multiple times throughout the game and it's extremely frustrating.

For EV training, 6th Gen's horde battles were definitely superior compared to this. |
-I don't mind the large amount of cutscenes, but there is definitely a pacing problem at times.
-Clothing options feel really limited (for boys) and almost feel like a step back from X/Y. On the second island there's a town with a distinct Asian theme and a clothes shop with Asian attire in the window. Unfortunately, they sell the same stuff you find in the other two stores beforehand. -Felt like the plot twist didn't really have the impact it should have had. -Your characters lack of facial expressions. {XD} Your character's expression seems to only change during fully rendered cut scenes. Every other time he/she's got that dead stare going on. -Drampa is endgame only! Turtonator can be used way before Drampa, which is not cool. |
I wouldn't mind the over-abundance of cutscenes if they actually had narrative importance. Most of the time, the cutscenes are just there to force me to go left instead of right, and not because anything important is actually happening. It takes forever to be introduced to what few important chatacters there are, too, so I agree that there's a pacing problem that's brought about by the linearity and cutscenes.
SOS battles are not fun. These are the big things I've noticed based on where I am at the moment. Quote:

For me only the wild pokemon sos battles, everything else doesn't bother me.

Trainers having one or two Pokémon at most. I'm really surprised at how many of these trainers (including bosses) only seem to have a maximum of 2 Pokémon? I can't even remember the last time battling against someone who had 3 or more Pokémon. Maybe that's because I'm on the third island, but up to this point I definitely think there should be some trainers with more than 3 Pokémon, particularly the bosses and rivals..
|
A few things I dislike so far, but not enough to make me dislike the game!
- Not being able to press B to not learn moves is actually kind of annoying :( - SOS battles when you're trying to catch a Pokemon - Alola Pokemon being rarer than some Kanto 'mons! This is really annoying when you're trying to find new Pokemon :( Like why is Pichu 5%? And Jangmo-o? |
I hate how in the newer games you can't rechallenge trainers. It makes it difficult to train, especially before the elite four

I personally love the increased cutscenes, makes the game feel more alive.
Can't say I dislike much since SM is already near perfect to me. What would've made it perfect though would be the ability to toss Pokéballs at Pokémon in multi battles, that's part of why the SOS feature can be so annoying. I wish we could target one Pokémon to capture it rather than knocking out one of them before we can catch the remaining. Also really miss the PSS. ]; It's kind of annoying to go into the Festival Plaza for trading all the time. Not to mention I want to see which of my friends are online quickly on the bottom screen, as well as passersby etc. |
Basically the competitive scene. Game Freak's gone a little too far trying to balance things. Wanna stop those Pranksters? Wanna revenge kill the opponent without touching them? Wanna be immune to everything but sleep? How about a Toxic-abusing Steel wall-breaker?
Yup, even with all the buffs they gave to once terrible Pokémon, the metagame is going to be screwed over. Maybe. |
The majority of the cutscenes were really just...unnecessary or went on longer than they should be. Especially at the beginning, gosh, it was so darn slow. And the pacing as well, like they should've spread out the placements of the cutscenes. SOS battles being practically unlimited like wild Pokemon should only be able to call for help once (idk why a pokemon would come to the aid of another pokemon who can't defeat a trainer in a 2v1 lmao). Clicking A to open doors.
That's really about it tbh. S&M don't actually have much flaws and granted, the aforementioned points are probably just nitpicks from a fan with sky-high expectations. XD |
I dislike the Battle Royal Dome prices. It's just.. everything no! And I need the Destiny Knot + EV training items from there so I can start breeding!
Everything else I'm pretty okay with. |

That everyone is way further in the game than I am and I don't want to spoil too much so I can't really participate so much in the forums at the moment.
Like, I'm just challenging the first trial and people are all "So how much of the postgame have you done already?" |
It loads very slowly on my 3DS XL, not that I am complaining too much, but.
And the Ultra Beasts were too weak, they aren't even hard to find/ captured. |
There's hardly anywhere to train post-game. I prefer places where I can just go in with 1 very strong pokemon, carrying 5 others in tow to help complete my pokedex. Sure there's the elite four, but there really isn't anything strong enough to take on the whole league like Mega Ray. I prefer something like Cafe Le Wow but the only cafe in SM is restricted to once a day. The only other alternative is grinding on Poni Island, which is tedious.
|
Yeah, the lag is pretty bad at times. My poor 3DS can barely handle double and Totem battles, so I don't even want to give the Battle Royal a shot.
It's also pretty disappointing how limited the Battle Tree Trainers were; the PWT got our expectations too high. Also: Spoiler:
|
Gen 7 is fantastic so far, but like every generation it has it's flaws here are mine.
The return of the fifth generation exp system, uh Game Freak why bring back one of the most annoying and painful mechanics of gen 5 back? This makes grinding more a chore now. Apparently the nursery does not raise Pokemon levels anymore. Jeez Game Freak are you trying to make completing the Pokedex even more painful with the return of the fifth gen EXP system? Thunder Wave has 90 accuracy now, why? The PSS and Dexnav are now gone. |

My only real complaint is below

Even though I haven't even played the game yet myself, I could say that my disappointment was surprisingly high when I found out about Cosmog's second evolutions. I just hoped that it'd be its own cute pokemon! ~_~ Difficult to explain.
|
Well at only around 20 or so minutes into the game, I have to say the one thing I don't like so far is how damn long the beginning is. I had to restart the game because my starter had a fucking +attack nature and my last save point was like back when you got out of the house. It just took so fucking long until I managed to get a starter without a bad nature. The whole 'let's see if the starter picks you' thing....what's the deal for that?

The PokéDex, without a doubt
Not only is it always on the bottom screen, it then decides to throw four different screens just to tell you about the pokémon every time you catch or evolve one Get rid of the "pokémon's data will be added to the pokédex" placeholder screen, merge the pokémon's information screen onto the bottom of the "registered" screen and remove the percentage tally overlay Other then that, it's a solid game |
