Samsung follows Apple? I must have missed that flurry of news stories saying that iPhones were exploding in the pockets of their users...

Samsung, you suck for copying everything that Apple does. Like EvilChameleon said, I wouldn't be surprised if the Google Pixel starts becoming popular for not being a useless copycat.

Can't say I'm surprised by what's happening lately with phones. Everyone seem to want to dump the headphones jack as soon as they can.

Then again, the S7 was rumoured to feature pressure sensitivity. It didn't. The edge variant was also supposed to not have microSD support. It happened anyway. Rumours are rumours. Nothing is confirmed until, well, it happens.

Still I am thinking that I got a new phone at the right time by getting an S7 edge not too long ago, no thanks to my Lumia 930 breaking sooner than expected. It's a lovely phone and you can tell they made a lot of changes to fix what went wrong with the S6.

Somehow I expect Samsung to backpedal with the S9 f they do go ahead with no jack in the S8.

Providing consumers with changes they don't yet want isn't courageous it's bad business. The big difference here is that Samsung doesn't have the borderline cult-like following that Apple does so it's going to hurt them a lot more.

the 3.5mm is an aging analog connector, and I'd be fine ditching it, if there was a standard digital audio connector to replace it (that there isn't).

I know Samsung tries, but the Pixel looks like a much better device, and I myself really like my iPhone - runs much smoother than the Android I used to have. At one point I thought about getting a Samsung phone, but then my friends' kept overheating, and there was that news article about the ones that caught fire. Nooope.

WHAT!!!?!?!?!???? That's just stupid! Apple was stupid for doing that, so why is Samsung doing it? Although my headphones aren't even jack headphones, they are USB, so I don't really care.

Still a terrible decision in my book. I couldn't care less about size, I care about quality.

They work a lot better then the ones I used to have, and I've dropped them a few times without any damage.

If Samsung is going to follow through with this, then they need to provide the proper peripherals as such, including headphones, IMO.

I'll agree that rumors are rumors until confirmed true, but this is nothing new for Apple and Samsung to be fighting with one another, or copying off of each other. There's even been a lawsuit about their battling of each other, too.
