Fun Fact: Donald Trump is the oldest US President, going by age when they were elected.

Yeah, you wouldn't think it was true but it definitely was. I am getting kinda sick of older politicians though, because it's kind of turning younger people away. In Australia we actually had a member of Parliament who was only aged in his 20's, until he lost his seat at last year's federal election.

you don't need to be an "extreme nationalist" to take an interest in how your country is run and how it interacts with the world

i get you though, i avoided politics for yeeeears because nothing other than negativity ever seems to come from it. and i still think that's true but i've figured that, as a citizen of your country, it's important to know what's going on and how that impacts you and other people - even if it mostly feels negative and dramatic.

Sothis March 30th, 2017 1:06 AM

All I said was that I can't get behind it, not that I'm totally disinterested in it. Of course you don't need to share the majority viewpoint to take an interest, and I agree with you that it's a good idea to know what is going on, whether you find it distasteful or not...perhaps especially if you find it distasteful. Being ignorant of the facts doesn't change those facts, right? Events will unfold whether you know about them or not. If you know how bad things are you can at least find ways to work with it or around it.

But then, because of all that negativity and drama - a lot of it the fault of the media, although opposing parties acting like children fighting on the playground certainly doesn't help matters - I prefer not to get too worked up or involved regardless of what it is. At the end of the day it's not really a topic I allow to impact my daily life significantly (at least in the sense of how much I think about it) or consider important to me personally; as I said, I don't share what seems to be the prevailing majority perspective in politics right now. I guess that makes me very self-centered and narrow-minded, but...oh well.

EDIT: Oh, I'm not saying people who CAN get behind current politics are all nationlists either, just in case that's implied in anything I've said. All I'm saying is that extreme nationalism - or at the very least, isolationism - seems to be the current trend in politics, and I just don't agree with it. Obviously, agreeing with the things some politicians are doing does not make you a nationalist by default. Sorry if it sounds like that's what I'm saying or implying; it's not intentional and not what I mean.

This is another reason I don't like getting involved in politics, it's such a heated area a lot of the time...just discussing it can be like walking blindfolded through a minefield.

Sothis March 30th, 2017 4:42 AM

I have strong political opinions, myself, that not many agree with (a "social justice warrior" if you will), so I avoid it at all costs and try to be more mellow.

pkmin3033 March 30th, 2017 4:46 AM

The term "social justice warrior" seems to have become a catch-all term for "person I don't agree with" on the internet...which is weird, given the original definition of the term "social justice" and what a lot of people seem to argue for and against...can't we move beyond GamerGate yet?

I don't really have the energy to argue with people anymore...I don't honestly care if people disagree with me about things. I'm used to people disagreeing with me about pretty much everything at this point. xD

pkmin3033 March 30th, 2017 5:02 AM

Well, people aren't really interested in listening to one another most of the time. Just proving their imagined superiority because reasons. I suppose that's a horrible generalisation, but that's generally what happens when people argue instead of discuss.

Maybe for you...I've had so many must-have games in the last three months, and lots to come...including FFXII HD, finally.

I didn't even play the first Red Dead, so I doubt I'll bother with the second. xD

If you enjoy emotional and engaging stories, you might want to check out Red Dead 2. The first one was so damn good and if the sequel is anything like the first one than it will be money well spent.

But you are playing a FF game which means that won't be completed for a few months haha (;

Well...I dunno. I've branched out an awful lot in gaming these last few months, and I've found that I've enjoyed a lot that I previously would have dismissed immediately. I never thought I'd enjoy Horizon: Zero Dawn, for example. I don't like westerns and I don't like Rockstar, so I didn't even consider playing RDR...neither of those things has really changed, but even so. It doesn't interest me right now, but maybe I'll feel differently come release.

I'll plat FFXII within two weeks, probably. I'll probably forgo pretty much everything else until I do it, I've waited too long for it. xD

How's Horizon Zero Dawn? I've seen bits and pieces of it here and there, but the graphics look absolutely phenomenal.

Yay. A thunderstorm. A bloody lightning just fell not too far from here, judging by the sound.

It was surprisingly good, I thought. It IS pretty stunning to look at (even on a standard PS4) although the character facial models cross over into uncanny valley a few times. Combat is very technical, too - you pretty much have to aim at enemy weak points (which you can scan Metroid Prime style) if you want to do any damage at all. The plot is...eh. It's nothing to write home about, but Aloy and the world sell it pretty well. She's a very interesting protagonist, and delving into the ruins of civilisation is fascinating. Don't expect anything highly original from it I'd say, but it's definitely engaging.

As far as open worlds go it's a pretty small one, but there is a lot more to do in it compared to say, Breath of the Wild, which I felt was very empty by comparison...something I tried to avoid, but it was inevitable considering I was playing them simultaneously. Although in a lot of ways it feels quite dated...you can't even jump up short ledges, which is frustrating at times. There isn't a huge amount of variety to weapons (although you can blast off weapons from machines and use them, which I felt was awesome...especially when I butchered a Thunderjaw with its own disc launcher, haha) and you're stuck with the same spear at the start which does very little, but it offers a reasonable degree of freedom in play style.

Really looking forward to the expansion later this year. I'd recommend picking it up if you're stuck for something to do...and even if you're not. xD

Sheep March 31st, 2017 3:53 PM

Yeah it's pouring here. I barely got my butt home lmao. Now it's the weekend and I'm currently waiting for our sushi order to arrive. BD

and omg video games. Barely have inspiration nowadays, even for Pokémon... normally I'd play main series Pokémon games for at least 200-300 hours but I stopped at 65ish in Sun and just never went back. Would like to, but I'm always so tired working lately and that made me lose motivation for a lot of things.

pastelspectre March 31st, 2017 6:09 PM

ooo video games. right now im playing animal crossing happy home designer again. i restarted it for the 3rd time. i normally don't like house designing games (specifically the ones made for mobile devices bc they're very greedy), but this one is one of my favorites. it's so relaxing and soothing to play.

also the weather where i live is.. probably chilly right now considering it's 9 pm

pkmin3033 March 31st, 2017 9:19 PM

I would argue it is the game's fault because I can't even bring myself to finish it because it's so bad but eh

I've been suprisingly motivated this year...I want to clear 50 games off my backlog. I've done 13 so far. However, I've acquired 27, so I'm not really making any progress in clearing it. xD

Sothis March 31st, 2017 9:24 PM

I'm not really a gamer, myself, I just play pokemon. I may do a runthrough on SM with Litten.

pkmin3033 March 31st, 2017 9:38 PM

I keep feeling like I should give SM another chance, but my masochism has its limits. xD

So much else to do right now =x

blue April 1st, 2017 3:30 AM

I'm slowly getting through Sun but there are already a couple of hacks of the games I'd like to try.

Limey-chan April 1st, 2017 3:37 AM

Still have yet to play S/M. Flatmate has said I can borrow his copy, but would need something to play it on.

Sothis April 1st, 2017 4:25 AM

I found them fun, personally.
A bit of a slow start, but fun once it gets going.

blue April 1st, 2017 7:09 AM

sun and moon is definitely up there with my favourites

no bias

EC April 1st, 2017 7:20 AM

I fear Sun/Moon may become another Black2/White2 for me. Great games I only finish once shortly after release, and then start a bunch of other runs of them, only to never finish.

I am doing a run of Sun now though that I hope to finish for sure, breaking such a curse.

pkmin3033 April 1st, 2017 7:36 AM

I'll try Moon...somewhen. Maybe transferring a team of actually decent Pokemon from Bank would motivate me to endure the faceless NPCs constantly stopping me every five seconds. I find that having a team of Pokemon I actually want to use tends to help me play the games. xD

pkmin3033 April 1st, 2017 8:34 AM

A sequel that would make Alola actually enjoyable the way B2W2 did for Unova would be nice...although I think I want DPPt remakes only slightly less than I want FFXII HD...or a Gamecube VC on the Switch...or just some games on the Switch, period. Priorities. xD

Sylphiel April 1st, 2017 8:47 AM

I pushed for preordering a Switch so at least there was one here and I didn't have to wait to get one, in case it started running out of stock after release.

I remember the aggravation of trying to get a DS years back even some time after it was released (granted, I also tried during a holiday season, which was probably the worst time for me to start looking), and I'm too impatient to repeat that experience. So, even if there aren't many games out for it now, at least I'll have it for certain when more of the games I want do come out. :D

blue April 1st, 2017 8:56 AM

I'm holding off for the Switch for a few months just yet, but if they announce any sort of worthwhile Pokémon game for it then I'll probably be sold.

EC April 1st, 2017 8:57 AM

Theoretically, of the three games I have for the Switch, only one is exclusive: Super Bomberman R. Breath Of The Wild is on the Wii U, and Neo Turf Masters came out 21 years ago on the Neo Geo, so...

blue April 1st, 2017 9:12 AM

That's exactly it, some of the spin-offs just wouldn't be worth it imo. If it were a spin-off like a follow up to Colosseum or XD then I'd totally buy it. Heck, even a port of those games onto the Switch would probably be enough to be sold on it.

pkmin3033 April 1st, 2017 9:18 AM

Yeah, I picked one up at launch because I know what Nintendo are like with stock. It's already getting dusty, although it'll get some use in May when Disgaea 5 comes out. I don't really mind waiting...I'm used to buying stuff and not touching it for a while. I have some PS4 games I've not even opened that I bought in 2015 sitting on my shelf, haha.

Alex April 1st, 2017 1:32 PM
