It should not be as hard as it is to find a job these days...it's like everyone is hiring, but nobody wants to hire you specifically...

At least you got rejection e-mails...a large percentage of employers don't even bother to tell you if you've got a chance or not, and as these things can take weeks anyway, you can be left wondering if you'll actually get to hear back from them. It's kinda annoying wondering if it's safe to apply and accept another job you might not want as much when the job you really want may or may not be open to you. Patience is a virtue, but time is money, and the latter wins out in this case.

Back when I finished University, I think I sent out about 30 letters and applications...I remember I had two interviews, and three rejections. The rest went unanswered.

pkmin3033 February 28th, 2017 10:21 PM

I sometimes wonder how many applications these people really get and if they're just lazy in processing them or not...if you want workers THAT badly, replies should happen pretty quickly, not weeks after the fact >.>

That and I also make sure to respond to recent postings since I know they'll be looked at more than job postings that are weeks old, and only apply on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesdays since later in the week probably isn't ideal.

I guess it depends on the job/sector in question...my last job I applied in February, they got back to me in the middle of March, and I was working for them by the end of April. When I worked retail I heard back in a couple of days and was working that same weekend. Just some you would think that have urgent need of workers can take forever to call you in if they're going to.

Yeah, part of it is luck and timing, too. A lot of places won't bother to take job postings . Or they'll just put them up for the sake of appearing fair because they already have someone in mind but can't appear to show favouritism...I'm positive I've lost out on more than a few jobs because of that.

Sweet, sweet unemployment.
(I'm poor and my family is starving)

It's not all bad, I'm supposed to be hired for a stage lighting company soon so that'll actually be kinda fun.

Unemployed for three years, five months and counting...getting worried that when I'm capable of working again I'll never get a job because nobody will want to hire someone who has been out of work for so long...

As long as you have previous work experience and can provide reasoning as to why you've been unemployed, I don't think any company should hold that against you too much. Though I don't know really. You might have to end up working a less than desirable job for a few months just to boost your resume up a bit and then move to something more appealing.

That's what I keep telling myself, although it's still a worry. I'm just a worrier by nature, and I won't feel entirely secure until I have something nailed down. There's a lot of support available to get back into work, though. I'm thinking of volunteering in a library again for a while or something.

...honestly, I'd settle for any part-time morning job at this point. I'm not in a position to be choosy anymore like I was when I left University. xD

EC March 1st, 2017 7:38 AM

I hear coal mining is coming back.

>_>

pkmin3033 March 1st, 2017 8:34 AM

I don't think I'm fit for physical labour of any kind somehow. xD;

Plus I'd drive my co-workers mad with Hi-Ho literally all day

pkmin3033 March 1st, 2017 8:42 AM

When I worked retail I had to stand on the checkout for 8 hours, that was pretty bad even though I was in better shape back then. I didn't mind moving around to take delivery and stuff, but I wish I could have sat down back then...

blue March 1st, 2017 8:55 AM

i had a retail job where i had to work 8-hour shifts without any break whatsoever and no pay for the first three days. i quit the next day.

pkmin3033 March 1st, 2017 8:56 AM

I'm alright with sitting all day as long as I can stretch...my knees seize up and start to ache if I stay in the same position for too long. But then, you're supposed to take regular fifteen minute breaks from staring at screens if you work with a computer or something, so it's not too bad. Hard to take regular breaks when you have to serve customers on your feet all day...

pkmin3033 March 1st, 2017 9:01 AM

I used to have an hour's break...which I took an hour before my shift was supposed to end. It made the morning hell, but I got to go home an hour early >:3

blue March 1st, 2017 9:01 AM

in my last office job, we had an hour for lunch which we could take at either 12, 1, or 2 which was actually really nice. taking a 2-3 lunch made the day seem shorter when finishing at 5.

pkmin3033 March 1st, 2017 9:07 AM

Kind of annoying when you're being told when to take your lunch...in my last job we took turns so that someone was always in the office, and I always volunteered to go last so I could go around 2:30 or so. The afternoon drags something awful if you go too early, right? =x

pkmin3033 March 1st, 2017 9:13 AM

Most people want to take their lunch as early as possible because they're hungry and/or fed up of working, so it's usually pretty easy to sort something out in those cases I think~

Sometimes I have impulse urges and act upon them (like when I ordered pizza yesterday, but I was getting paid the next day anyway so it didn't matter), but really I tend to (or WANT to) save more often than spend. It really bothers me when I'm low on cash and then don't have enough for basic necessities, so I'm very strict about spending now.

Was this meant to be a thread? ahaha

I have a surprising amount saved for someone who used to blow money that he didn't even have originally (overdraft life YEAAAAAAA). I mean it's not like, thousands, but it's enough to have me getting by on a basic level and enough to deal should some sort of expensive emergency (idk what) arise. Then again, what I consider a "basic" level is way way way below acceptable for most people I've talked to.

pkmin3033 March 1st, 2017 9:25 AM

...I buy literally every video game I want. I'm terrible. Although I have savings I do not touch, and I know how to budget and whatnot...I do have two Accounting degrees after all. But I'm generally not very restrained when it comes to spending my spare cash; if I want it, I get it.

Although that's partly because if my savings go over a certain amount I lose access to money, and if I lose access to money I can't afford to pay for my keep, meaning I get put out on the streets. I guess I don't save my spare money very often, but I don't spend more than I can afford to. Bills first, luxuries second. I'm a pessimist - when I think I'll have a future, I will start saving for that future. As long as my life expectancy is as low as it is...if I want it, I'm going to buy it.

Esper March 1st, 2017 9:34 AM

Spending money when I don't have to is not something I do. I'm a scrooge.

wait what? why do you lose access to your money if you have too much of it?

blue March 1st, 2017 9:50 AM

my savings are actually pretty good right now, i'm managing to get by without any money problems. i'll be getting a student loan in september, but i have no idea about all that just yet.

EC March 1st, 2017 9:53 AM

Whenever I get extra cash I am very stingy about spending it. I often just let it sit for weeks before I decide to buy more music, or a game, or some movies.

As I understand it (and admittedly I'm not fully aware of how they decide and process these things, I've only had to provide income details once) if my savings go over a certain amount I have to notify them and it'll impact and/or disqualify me.
