Luck-locke challenge

So the basic premise of this challenge is to ensure that you have a constantly rotating team, and to make it a bit more difficult to progress.

The rules are as follows:
  • As long as you have a free slot in your party, you may catch Pokemon as normal (i.e. you are not forced to catch the first pokemon you find).
  • If you have a full party and catch an extra Pokemon, roll a d6 and replace whichever Pokemon is in the corresponding slot with the new Pokemon (For example if you roll a 1, replace the Pokemon in the first slot of your party with the new Pokemon).
  • Whenever you acquire a new gym badge, roll a d6 and remove the Pokemon in the corresponding party slot from your party. If you roll a number and there is no Pokemon in the corresponding slot, roll again. If you would be forced to remove your last Pokemon, you lose the challenge. If the challenge is done in Pokemon Sun/Moon, remove a Pokemon after defeating each Totem Pokemon AND each Island Kahuna.
  • Whenever a Pokemon is replaced or removed, treat it as retired. You can release it or keep it in your PC, but you cannot use it again.

Notes: This is not a nuzlocke challenge. If a Pokemon faints, you may heal it at a Pokemon centre or revive it.

Now for the fun part! If you're interested in playing please let me know in the comments what version you're playing.
There are no posting requirements for the challenge but I think it'd be cool to at least see what Pokemon people are forced to discard as they progress. If you want to post your progress in any form, feel free. I'd love to see what people's teams look like with these rules in place!

Hey there! Sorry I didn't mention in the main post. There is no requirement to sign up for this particular challenge, but it would be fun to keep track of everyone playing and see how they play it and what Pokemon people get and are forced to replace. It'll also be interesting to see if the challenge is easier or harder in different versions of the games.
I'll be adding a section at the bottom of the original post to keep track of who's playing and how everyone is doing. If you're interested in playing just let me know on here and I'll add your name to the Currently playing list.

Cheers

I've added you to the list, and I think it's in the nature of the challenge not to have an extra space for a HM slave. Try and just use your 6 party Pokemon.

I have a question: Is it required to catch the first pokemon in each route, because if not I feel like people could just never catch pokemon once they have a good team or just search for the best pokemon in each route. If there is no rule in place regarding having to catch the first pokemon in each route I will be playing that way

It's not required to catch the first pokemon on each route. The fact that you have to roll out a pokemon after every gym badge will make sure the team rotates. It's up to each player how challenging they want to make the challenge for themselves. Feel free to add any self imposed rules :)

I've added you to the list.

This sounds interesting, I'll give it a shot with Omega ruby, and i'll post updates so i don't lose interest lol

So i ended up getting really into this, inventing reasons and everything as to why i had to swap out my Pokemon regularly and stuff and getting quite into the role of researcher that i had given myself. Trying not to get too attached to my team buuut its getting pretty difficult, especially will be later when i'm going to need to capture new Pokemon to balance the team out rather than just waiting until after gyms.

---The beginning---
Spoiler:
Hi! my name is Sylvie and today i just moved to a small town called Littleroot! My mother and i moved here to be closer
to my father, Norman, who just so happens to be a gym leader in the next town over. First impressions? Its a little quaint,
Theres a pokemon professor called Birch who lives here but other than that i get the impression that nothing much goes on
in this sleepy little town...

Speaking of the professor though, he's apparently a good friend of my father's with a son about my age called Brendan. He
seemed to be the dependable sort, interested in aiding his father's research, im sure one day he'll become a well renowned
professor in his own right. I happened to run into the professor while i was out exploring my new village (honestly
this place is far to small to justify being called a town) Birch was being attacked by a wild poochyena while out doing
field-work, so i grabbed the first pokeball i touched in his discarded bag of goodies and went into battle. It felt pretty
good, the battle that is, turns out the pokemon inside the ball was a Treecko; it was kind of cute, and the battle itself
was a rush! it wasnt difficult or anything, Treecko even listened to me like i was actually its trainer, maybe the blood
of a gym leader runs strong in me? i might have a future in the trainer business!

Anyway, it turns out the Professor had been studying a strange occurance that he had noticed in all pokemon lately: Their
lifespans seem to have reduced at various rates, meaning many poor pokemon were aging and getting sicker at a faster rate
than what was natural, and he suspected it may have something to do with a shifting inbalance in the state of the world..
Big stuff right? Anyway, as a thanks for rescuing me he allowed me to keep the Treecko i had battled with,(i named him
Ace) but warned me not too get attached - and to send it over to his lab as soon as i noticed it getting frail for future
study. He then also asked if i could help him with his research on the inbalance - nothing too crazy, just to go on an
adventure and keep track of any oddities i noticed that could help us pinpoint the cause of the problem and maybe help us
fix it. naturally i agreed. ADVENTURE AWAITS!

Birch suggested i meet up with his son on route 103 to learn the basics of battling and research, the battling part was
unnecessary as Ace wiped the floor with his Torchic, however the basics of research were interesting, he showed me the
best way to make short hand notes and we agreed that the focus of HIS research would be pokemon habitats and MINE would
be the lifespans themselves. I've already assigned myself a goal: if i had say two poochyena would the both age at the same
rate or is this phenonmenom different for each individual?

We returned to the lab after our field outing where i received a pokedex to help keep track of my findings and some pokeballs
as everyone agreed the best way to research lifespans was to constantly keep notes and have my team rotating as soon as
someone got to early retirement age.

TLDR: got a treeko, told to go research why pokemon's lifespans were becoming shorter
--- First team members---
Spoiler:
Ace and i went through various wild pokemon encounters before we found a few pokemon who we considered healthy and 'young' enough
to become members of the team, we could tell the frail ones right away as two Pound attacks from Ace would knock them out.
This discovery in itself gives me my first hypothesis: individual pokemon are affected differently by this phenomena rather
than individual species of pokemon, so no two wurmple will age at the same rate. While most would see this as a logical conclusion
regardless, it was definitely worth checking out the extent of this inbalence in life force.

So on that note i introduced to my team:
-Fang the poochyena, his coat was very shiny and eyes bright and to top it all off he even knew a pretty rare move - Thunder fang.
-Fred the wurmple, nothing much to say about Fred other than he seemed to have a good appetite
-Butters the Zigzagoon, she seems very charming and sweet though she lacks any offensive moves. like, at all
-Susie the Surskit, she was a feisty one, very lively and difficult to catch

After a small bit of training my team and i arrived at petalburg city where i met up with my father. It was good to see him and it
made me happy that he was recognizing my blossoming career as a trainer. While catching up though a frail looking boy came in
hoping to get a pokemon. Apparently he was moving away for health reasons and wanted a companion. Fair enough, it seemed that the
current phenomenon with shortened pokemon lifespans wasn't common knowledge yet and considering the circumstances i didn't want to
mention anything to the kid that could cause his own health to worsen, so at father's request i went with him to help him catch his
own pokemon. Wally (as i learnt was him name) lucked out and caught a ralts, i hope it doesn't fade away too quickly...

Upon returning to my father he recommended i start with a gym leader called Roxanne in Rustboro city, which was fair, i had grown up
with some of the pokemon my dad used for his gym so i had a good idea of their strength, my own team would definitely need a bit of work
before we could take him on.

This also brings on another curious thought to the current problem the world was facing. Was it only newer
hatched pokemon that were experiencing this shortened lifespan? Father seemed to show now worries about his own pokemon, if they still
looked healthy when i got round to challenging him that would provide my answer.

Speaking of strong pokemon, my team and i lucked out on route 104 where we were attacked by a rather strong and aggressive taillow. It
was the strongest wild pokemon i had ever encountered at lvl 13, where as Ace, my strongest, was only lvl 9. The bird also surprised
me with its knowledge of the brave bird move, cementing my desire to have it as part of my team. It took literally everything i
had to weaken it, ending up with Fred being the last pokemon i had left to capture it with(what bad luck right?) Well thats where we got
lucky, thankfully we were able to capture it with our penultimate pokeball before Fred could be one-shot and thats how Baxter became party
member number 6. Really hope this one stays good and healthy for a long while.

TLDR: met wally and norman, caught some more pokemon one of them being a badass

---First gym battle---
Spoiler:
Fred evolved when we entered the petalburg woods, which was pretty exciting, he became a cascoon, and since i can never remember which form
becomes what or how a wurmple's split evolution works it'll be interesting to see his final form. While in the woods, after a little more training,
the team and i encountered a researcher who had been looking for shroomish on his way back to work. However it seems he had been carrying something
important and an impatient thief wearing a tasteless red outfit tried to attack him. Baxter wiped the floor with him, but i shall have to
keep my eyes out for this...team magma in the future.

Some kid gave me a TM for echoed voice when i left the forest, so i taught it to Butters, now she finally has an attack move maybe she can
actually fend for herself, for once. Oh was also given a watering can by the people who owned the flower shop. No promises on making good
use out of it, im not known for having a green thumb.

Fred evolved into a Dustox while battling trainers outside of the petalburg woods, this makes me happy and since bug pokemon are known
to grow quickly i am not worried that this has any connection with the Life-force phenomena (shall now be referred to as LP because thats
a pain to make a note of every time. Brendan was right i need to invent my own good shorthand for these research notes)

People in Rustboro city are real friendly. Just by talking to people i was given:
-the TM false swipe
-the HM Cut
-a float stone
-a premier ball
-a quick claw

TLDR: Evolution and free stuff

Team layout at the start of the gym battle:
1. Ace
2. Fred
3. Baxter
4. Butters
5. Susie
6. Fang

>>>>Battle with Roxanne<<<<
Spoiler:
- I did my research and knew Roxanne had a preference for rock types. Ace took the lead, and my opponent began with a geodude. Ace used his new
mega drain attack, however we were prevented from 1HKO the target due to it's sturdy ability. On top of that Geodude's rock tomb actually hurt quite
a bit, removing nearly half of Ace's health. I had Ace follow up with a quick attack, however once again my plans were dashed by a critically timed
potion on roxanne's behalf. No matter, quick attack did more damage than i originally would give it credit for and i opted to use the opponents
potion to my advantage by once again using mega drain and restoring Ace's hp back to nearly full.

- Nosepass was up next and i opted to let Ace stay out front. Once again i ordered a mega drain, as it was the only grass move we knew, however
the opponent was a tough one and barely seemed phased by the move, countering with a rock tomb. Thankfully Ace dodged the worst of it, only taking minor
damage. We switched tactics, opting to lower the enemies defense via a smooth leer attack. Once again nosepass threw a rock tomb at us and we took
a lot more damage than last time, thankfully though Ace was smart enough to eat it's oran berry and i ordered a follow up with yet another mega-drain.
However with the last rock tomb nosepass was now faster than us, as it seemed Ace had damaged a leg, HOWEVER he managed to get a critical hit which
knocked the gym leaders pokemon out, earning us a victory!

Roxanne handed us the Stone badge, which also gave us permission to Cut down small trees blocking our path, and she gave us the move Rock tomb aswell,
which was pretty generous of her.

Dice roll: 5 - lost susie

We returned to the pokemon center to rest up the team and celebrate Ace's hard earned gym victory, however, during examinations nurse joy informed me
that Susie was starting to look a little sick, which was pretty common for a pokemon of her age and that she recommended retiring her from her life of
battling. I was shocked to say the least. Professor Birch had warned me not to get too attached to my pokemon, but hearing about it and actually seeing
it happen before my eyes were two very different things. Susie had been a apart of the team for a mere two days and already her usually smooth damp
skin was showing signs of flaky age. I thanked Joy for her advice and immediately contacted Birch informing him about my findings and sending poor Susie
to him to be taking care of in her ailing health. Now i was even more determined than ever to find the source of this and a way to end it.

Hypothesis: battling itself does not necessarily lead to the depletion of a pokemon's quickened LP. If that had been the case surely it would have been Ace
who had suffered an early retirement, as he was my first.

---Trouble in Rustboro---
Spoiler:
Taught Butters the Cut HM, seeing as she was a normal type at least she could get a STAB out of it.

Our victory was overshadowed by our loss, even still, the next morning after a good nights rest and a check over of my other members, we left the
PC with our heads held high. We had a purpose, a mission and were determined to see it through. A replacement pokemon was now needed to fill the void left by
Susie. We had barely made it 5 steps when we stumbled upon a commotion but the Devon building. A familiar looking red outfit was fleeing the building with a
familiar looking researcher panting along behind him in protest. By all rights i should have turned away, i had my own mission to attend to, however i just couldn't
ignore someone in trouble either.

Turns out it WAS the same guy from the woods, he begged me to recover the Devon parts that the Team magma grunt had stolen. i agreed, seeing it as a good
opportunity to train and look for a new team member. It wasn't long before we found one: a young Skitty i named Neko, her playful attitude was good for
lifting our teams spirits.

We did some training along the route that the Magma grunt had escaped down (i soon learned from nearby workers that it was a dead-end so i had no fear
of the guy escaping). It was here that Ace evolved into a Grovyle. Once this was done the gang and i headed into Rusturf tunnel to retrieve the stolen
goods. The magma guy was pretty easy to beat, and it turns out he had stolen an old man's pokemon to use as a hostage on his way in. Thankfully we were
able to rescue it and return it to its owner, an old seafarer named Mr.Briney.

As a side note Peeko the wingull we saved seemed to be as old as Mr.Briney himself, and judging from some tales he told me, it seems unrelated to LP
strengthening my theory that LP is a recent problem emerging among newer hatched pokemon. Could there be something in the air? or something tapping into
their unhatched potentials using it for itself? the mystery only deepens.

After returning the parts to the Devon researcher i ended up getting dragged inside to meet the president. He thanked me for my aid, which was a little
embarrassing before asking em to deliver a letter for him as a favour. Dewford town was my next stop anyway so i agreed, and funnily enough Mr.Briney,
whom i had just helped, would be needed to cross the sea to get there, things were falling into place very nicely indeed.
TLDR: evolution, saved peeko, got parts back, asked to deliver a letter

I'm just wondering, if I wanted to do this challenge in Moon then would I switch out a pokemon after each totem pokemon, or just after the Kahuna battles or swap a pokemon out after the totem battle and then another one after the Kahuna battle?

While I wait on this answer I'm gonna play through on Red.

Wow excellent post! I'm loving the story and the inventive reasoning behind having to swap out your pokemon! I really enjoyed reading your story, and I'm already looking forward to your next update! :D
Hope you're enjoying the challenge!

While I wait on this answer I'm gonna play through on Red.

I think if you're doing it in Sun/Moon there should be a swap after each Totem Pokemon AND after each Island Kahuna, which would mean there would be a total of 11 mandatory swaps in Sun/Moon instead of 8.
I'll add you to the list of people playing and put your game as Pokemon Red.
Cheers :)

Really enjoying this challenge so far, and im surprised with Dustox as a pokemon, i rarely use bugs but hes turning out to be a very decent addition to the team.

The journey:
Spoiler:
---Dewford Town---
Spoiler:
It was just a short trip across the sea to Dewford, took no more than an hour. upon landing i scouted the town but found it to be as quaint as Littleroot. Instantly
i started asking around for Steven, but when all i received were blank stares, instead i was directed to the local granite cave which is usually the hotspot for
tourists. Curious i went to investigate; inside i met a friendly hiker gave me the Flash TM and warned me about the darkness of the depths. However i was unable
to progress further in my hunt for Steven, as there was a queue of all things blocking the main entrance into the rest of the cave! Frustrated i left the cave and
turned my attention to some nearby trainers before settling on resting at the PC for the evening and challenging the gym. Perhaps i would have better luck finding
Stephen tomorrow.

I was surprised to learn that Brawly used fighting types though, i had honestly expected him to be a water type trainer you know, being surrounded by the ocean, on
the other hand it gave Ace a nice break and would allow Fred and Baxter time in the spotlight.

Team layout before Brawly:
1.Fred
2.Baxter
3.Ace
4.Fang
5.Butters
6.Neko

>>>>Battle with Brawly<<<<
Spoiler:
- I chose Fred as my lead, whereas Brawly led with a Machop. This should be relatively easy, since Fred knows both flying and psychic type moves. I start off with
a confusion attack, while super effective, it was nowhere near a 1HKO...maybe i should consider actually grinding? Regardless,Fred barely felt Machop's karate chop
and followed through with a gust attack, which KO'd the opponent.
- I allowed Fred to stay lead for Brawly's next pokemon: Makuhita, figuring he could use the exp more than his stronger comrade Baxter. This time i started with
poison powder, hoping to be tactical, but makuhita dodged the dangerous powder and bulked himself up for the fight. Abandoning said tactics i ordered another gust
attack, but makuhita was stronger than machop and it didnt even knock the sumo pokemon down half, Fred received sand in the face for his efforts, he struck out
blindly with a confusion attack and thankfully landed a devastating blow, earning us a victory!

We received the knuckle badge from brawley and the bulk up TM. that was nice of him. He also casually mentioned Steven visiting the Granite cave that there had
been a queue for yesterday. perhaps now i would have the opportunity to enter?

Dice roll: 5 (again?! D: ) lost Butters

Stopped by the PC to rest up the gang, when once again i was beckoned over by the nurse, once again i was offered sympathies from Joy as she noted that Butters
seemed to be developing arthritis in her front paws. I had noticed her limp earlier today but had clearly been in denial about what it could have meant. Once again
i sent off a report and my friend to Birch.

Note: There seemed to be no sure way to tell which pokemon would age the fastest out of a group. it seemed to be luck (or misfortune) of the draw.

With Butters gone and now no way to cut down small trees, i planned to teaching Neko the Cut HM atleast she could STAB with it. At least that had been my hopes,
however Neko wasn't very adept at learning the move, the only one who showed interest was Ace, so i decided to save re-teaching the move to someone until i needed
it We made our way to Granite cave, i had received an old fishing rod earlier and contemplated using it, but i'd heard many tales that most old rods were only
strong enough to reel in weak pokemon like magikarp, very rarely was it sturdy enough to haul anything off. Perhaps granite cave would have my replacement.

The way was clear this time and I found Steven, turns out those people had been queuing to see this mural of a raging ancient pokemon. As an apology for being
hard to find, Steven gave me the Steel wing Tm in return for the letter i had to deliver and told me a bit about the mural.

Perhaps LP is related somehow? no definite proof yet but its as valid as any other theory

I wasnt' too satisfied with the pokemon i found inside of Granite cave, and opted to find my 6th team member elsewhere. With my duty done, i returned to find Mr.Briney still faithfully waiting for me at the port. Though it turns out he had just received a message from me. Surprise surprise the Devon Boss wanted another favor from me. You give in once and people feel they can just walk all over you. He asked me to help take the Devon parts i rescued to Capt.Stern in Slateport, and feeling like i had little choice i agreed to go, after all i suppose i DID need to travel all over to discover the secrets of LP.

TLDR: beat brawly, lost butters, met Steven, asked to go to slateport

---Slateport City---
Spoiler:
There were a tonne of trainers looking to battle on slateport beach, including a few inside a shack. During this training session Fang evolved into a mightyena
which was pretty badass. On top of that as a reward for beating all of his customers, the shop owner gave me a handful of Soda pops. After exploring the
city, i headed straight out onto the next route to find another team member, where Baxter evolved into a Swellow, and i caught an electrike which i named Flash, lets
hope he turns into something promising!

Satisfied with my training and catch i finally head to Captain Stern's place, only to learn he wasn't home. His aide asked me to track him down at the museum and
deliver the parts to him in person. Honestly, the trouble i go through for people...to make matters worse, the receptionist has the nerve to charge me for entering.
I have to pay a whole 50 pokedollars to go make a delivery......

...Why was team magma here?
This team isn't very subtle, like at all, their garish red suits are littering the lobby area, even the guy i beat back in Rustboro was
here though he threw a Thief TM at me in fear and fled upon seeing me. This doesnt bode well, i had to find Stern fast. I found him upstairs and thankfully it doesn't seem like Magma had made it up here yet. I made my delivery, but before i could warn the old man about Team magma, some of the grunts cornered us. They made great training for my team though their use of fire types like Numel reminded me i needed to find some water or ground type pokemon, or at the very least some TM's to help me counteract them.Typically, after beating the weaklings, someone who appeared to be their boss appeared. He introduced himself as Maxie with some backwards sort of compliment. I was starting to drift off through his long winded speech when something about increasing landmass grabbed my attention. Shortly after issuing a warning, Maxie and his grunts left.

Note: Was team magma trying to upset the natural balance of the world somehow? Could they somehow be the cause of LP? Requires further investigation

My task complete,I gave in and taught Ace the Cut HM before continuing on my adventure, training my team along route 110 as we went, where i encountered Brenden
again, we compared research notes and he informed me about his losses, his starter pokemon seemed to be looking good though. Perhaps rarer pokemon immune systems are made of stronger stuff? once done he gave me a dowsing machine and we went our separate ways.

TLDR: lots of evolution, caught electrike named flash, beat up team magma, made another delivery

---Mauville City---
Spoiler:
It was very strange entering a 'city' that had a roof. I also spotted Wally as i entered, well i guess Verdanturf isn't too far from here, his entire demeanor had
changed though, still pale looking but he seemed to have a lot more confidence than when i met him before, i overheard him talking about challenging the Mauville gym
too. Guessing his Ralts was doing okay too then. I got my bearings, and found my way to Rydell's cycle shop, if i could invest in a bike that could seriously
speed up my research. Rydell turned out to be a really generous guy though. A man with a real keen critical eye, as soon as i entered his store i felt his gaze on me.
He noted the state of my shoes (which i am embarrassed to admit were well-worn and filthy from the miles i had traveled and general lack of care.) and instantly
offered me a bike for free. I was baffled and humbly accepted a mach bike.

While looking for a PC i accidentally stumbled across Wally outside the gym, where he challenged me to a battle, i felt a bit bad about beating him but he still had
pretty far to go as a trainer before he was ready to take on a gym. Call it a learning curve. His ralts seemed to be very healthy though that was good. His uncle gave
me the Rock Smash TM as a thank you for being the kid's friend, score!

Before i actually challenged the gym though i trained and explored around the neighboring routes. Looks like i was going to need to consider getting myself a water
type pokemon soon, a lot of the way forward would require the use of surf...

Team layout before Wattson:
1.Neko
2.Ace
3.Flash
4.Fang
5.Baxter
6.Fred

Wattson was a master of electric types, it was probably going to take a lot of brute strength to take him down, since i lacked any ground or rock types - a hindsight
on my part really. I had faith in my team, though there was the niggling fear in the back of my mind. It HAD been a couple of days since our last loss and i was
noticing a trend over the last two gyms: even if the pokemon doesn't battle itself, the stress and excitement of a big league gym battle seemed to accelerate (or
possibly reveal - as i'm sure my party has the capacity to hide things from me) how far along with LP an individual really is.

>>>>Battle with Wattson<<<<

Spoiler:
- Wattson began with Magnemite, which instantly put a dent in my plan, as i had sent Neko to the front lines, hoping to make use of her attract abilities. Not to
worry though, a developing research assistant would need the knowledge and cunning to adapt to any situation. Magnemite was part steel type. steel had many weaknesses. I could use that. I ordered Neko to use a newly acquired Wake-up slap attack, it wasn't as effective as i had hoped (i had forgotten to factor in Neko's normalize ability) but it did decent damage.(it was also at this point i realized that my party was vastly over-leveled in comparison to Wattson's). Magnemite countered
with a thunderwave which effective paralyzed my hyper kitty. I attempted to follow up with a double slap however magnemite pulled out a volt switch.

- Voltorb took its place, also taking the double slap hit which did decent damage considering it lack any steel typing. I decided at this point Neko could use a
break, paralysis couldn't have been very pleasant. Fang took her place; unfortunately taking a volt switch hit too, which funnily enough brought magnemite back
into the frey. One quick bite finished it off, thankfully Fang was proud of its speed. I allowed him to remain in battle against the returning voltorb. One well placed
Assurance also made quick work of it. I allowed Fang a break and chose my next pokemon carefully for the final battle.

- It boiled down to Ace against Magneton and opened with Ace's strongest attack - leaf blade. It didn't do as much damage as i had hoped, and magneton smoothly hit
us with a supersonic. Gritting my teeth i ordered a fury cutter attack and crossed my fingers. Thankfully the attack connected but barely seemed the phase the
opponent, but on the other hand its magnet bomb barely hardly tickled Ace. my next command fell on deaf ears and Ace ended up seriously harming himself in his
confusion. I swapped Ace out, he was more harmful to himself than the opponent was. Fred took the stage, he flew out into a magnet bomb (seemed to be a favorite)
but the guy toughed it out. Fred turned out to be a good choice, his silver wind attack finished magneton off in one hit. I was growing prouder of my party with
every growing battle.

Wattson gave us the Dynamo badge, which also granted us permission to smash small rocks blocking our path. We also recieved the TM Volt switch, it had been a useful move back in the battle and i contemplated teaching it to Flash.

Dice roll: 3 Lost Flash (well there goes that plan)

I didn't even make it to the PC this time when i noticed something was wrong. I had allowed my team out of their pokeballs for the walk, partially to check on them
(casually of course though i think they were aware of what i was doing) and partially because they had all originally been wild and free and always being inside of a pokeball couldn't be good for ones health. Flash's breathing had become unsteady as he fell behind the group. I scooped up my newest team member worried, and burst into a run towards the PC. Of course i already knew it was LP. While i had the rest of my team checked over by the nurse i took poor flash over to the communication and transfer device. Another call to Birch was made, he too expressed concern over both my theories and the scary pace at which Flash had deteriorated. Birch and i agreed it was best to follow up my potential lead with Team magma. Perhaps they were planning on using one of the ancient pokemon to increase the landmass of the planet. In which case could the stirring of a super powerful pokemon be causing the in-balance? Was the Ancient beast perhaps draining the life force in order to revive itself? No now i was jumping to conclusions. This required an open mind and more research.

TLDR: went to mauville, beat wally got rock smash, beat wattson, lost Flash

---Team changes---
Spoiler:
I taught Fang the Rock Smash HM figuring i could make use of the license. I didn't have the heart to go back to find another electric type, i had to move forward in my search for constantly rotating replacements. First things first, i headed over to Verdanturf town to visit Wally (he was gone of course) and to use my new rock smash skill to help dig the tunnel to Rustburo. I had a vague memory of saving peeko on the other side of this tunnel, it didn't look like there was much digging left to do, so perhaps a pokemon...

Fang shattered the remaining rocks blocking the way, much to the relief of the star crossed lovers on either side of it. As thanks i received a mysterious stone.
I felt a strange aura from it, but could not yet figure out its purpose. I'd like to say i did the deed out of the kindness of my heart, but unfortunately it was
entirely selfish. A shortcut between Rustboro and Verdanturf would be extremely beneficial. Should my research provide any conclusive results time would most likely
be of the essence. With the shortcut created i headed back through Mauville town on my way to the next gym. They weren't completely unrelated to my research:
The gym challenge encouraged traveling, as certain badges came with licenses and merits that allowed lawful use of specified pokemon moves outside of a battle( which
obviously allowed me to advance through various terrain,) and on my journey i could keep my ear to the ground for rumors and clues, as well as study the younger
generation of pokemon: For now i was convinced it was the newer generation of pokemon that was being affected by LP.

I snuck past the trainers on route 112, i didn't have the heart to face them right now. LP was starting to grow on me, my focus right now was to find yet another 6th
team member, there was a high chance that should i find a suitable member, those trainers would be valuable experience for the newbie. I did bump into Brenden though, he gifted me with the Strength HM before we silently gazed up at the approaching volcano, Mt.Chimney. It looked...hot, but passing it would be necessary to reach the next town, not to mention i couldn't afford to NOT investigate any area. My assignment was too important, i had already experienced the pain of three losses,
there were surely many more trainers who were unfortunately starting to notice LP on every passing day, surely soon it would become a widespread worry.

I found a lead to follow while here. Team magma was disrupting the use of the lift that allowed one to ascend the volcano with ease. In my experience the gang were
never up to any good, i had to find a way to get up there and discover their plans. I headed into a cave in the side of Mt.chimney, perhaps there was an alternative
albeit more dangerous route up.

Note: it was inside here i found team member 6, a koffing i named Erin. My choice seemed illogical, i would have been better off preparing for the trials ahead,
however i was really starting to enjoy my role as researcher and i wondered if her poison typing made any difference towards LP. Fred was doing fine, so was it
to do with the typing? afterall poison itself can be deadly did it counteract anything at all? were young pokemon inhibited by something physical like say a virus
weakening them? was it something in the air? I know i have already voiced my suspicions but i wanted to know HOW. Was it indeed the manipulations of an unseen force in the world, or was it achieved more physically? something the human mind was better at comprehending.

After returning to mauville city for healing however, i really had it in my head that i wanted a water type pokemon for the trial ahead, especially knowing team
magma would be involved. Also lavaridge town my destination was situated next to a volcano, surely the gym leader there had to use fire types! I headed up to route 111 where i fished a baby goldeen, which i caught and named Prince. Unfortunately he was automatically sent to Birch's research lab as i already had 6
pokemon. i needed to go contact him before he thought Prince was my next LP victim!

Dice roll: 3 Lost Fang :( (aaw..Fang was one of my favorites... :( )

I explained the situation to Birch, he was happy to send me Prince back, but i was going to have to give him a member of my existing team. Torn i bit my lip and looked
over my party members, it was a big decision and they all had the right to be in on it, after all each and every one of them was my beloved partners, and with LP
around, trading in the wrong one could mean never seeing them again. Fang stepped forward, nudging me gently with his nuzzle when my heart broke into tiny little
pieces. He was volunteering. I spotted the faint graying on his snout, their was still that same spark in his eyes from when he was just a poochyena, but it had begun
to dull a little. Fang was volunteering because he felt LP taking effect, he was making the hard choice for me. I hugged my old friend for a very long time before
making the transfer. The gang and i felt the weight of LP for a long time once the trade had been made, and i realized i was going to need to teach someone else
Rock smash. Once again, only Ace was capable of mastering the move and i felt awful that i was limiting his moveset with my human incompetence.

TLDR: Made a shortcut, got Strength, caught Erin a koffing, caught Prince a goldeen, lost Fang.

deliver the parts to him in person.

I am loving the theory and the lore that you're adding to make the challenge more realistic. I'm really enjoying the story that you're building up, and I can't wait for the next update! :D

Cheers :)
Okay in that case then can you add moon to my sign up?

The Journey:
Spoiler:
---The Rescue---
Spoiler:
****Training montage.****

I wasn't going to get one. Honestly i wasn't, but just as i was leaving the ashen route of 113 a rarer sandshrew jumped out of the bushes. It looked much
stronger than the others i had seen on the route, at lvl 25 rather than 16, and also knew the rock climb move. How peculiar. i couldn't help myself, i engaged it in a
battle with Erin and caught myself Mira the sandshrew. And then had to return to town to retrieve it from professor Birch.

Dice roll: 1 Lost Erin

I didn't actually have as much difficulty decided on who to swap out this time, as i had been keeping a close eye on my new poison type and had noticed something...odd. A lot of the time she seemed to act as if... poisoned. I don't think she was aware of the cause, she just seemed confused (and i dont think she fully trusted me yet) but the occasional slowness she showed and paling of the skin suggested to me that she was in fact being attacked by her own toxins. Perhaps deadly poison would not protect against LP after all. Regardless, she would need to be seen by professionals, it was easy to forget i was still a child, Birch may be able to know more to help her, or at least enlist the aide of poison experts.

I stumbled into the hardy town of Fallarbor, completely flummoxed as i had forgotten it was here. turns out the path i had taken was not actually one to get me
up the volcano on foot, guess magma's plans would have to wait. Mira had evolved into a sandslash during our first trainer battle along the way which was exciting,
but she could do with a better move set, during her time in the wilds it seems she had forgotten some of her best moves, as i had fought weaker sandshrew than her who knew moves such as rollout and magnitude. I had a vague recollection of seeing an advertisement for a move tutor in mauville town and pulled out my map. These things always had some sort of guide section on them, and sure enough i soon found the move tutor listen under fallarbor town along with one professor Cozmo. Interesting,i think Brenden had been interested in some of that guys meteor research...

I headed off to find the move tutor: who strangely called himself a 'move maniac' but happily took two heart scales off of my hands to help Mira remember the two
aforementioned moves. Then i decided to pay professor Cozmo a visit since i was in town. His house was harder to find however, but i soon spotted Brenden in town, who began dragging me towards a house with very little explanation other than 'It's awful.' Turns out professor cozmo had just recently been kidnapped by team magma. Well now, that wouldn't do at all. Brendan and i set off in pursuit immediately, though Brendan was a lot faster than i and was soon miles a head. I didn't have great stamina or love for running...but i did have a bike. On the way i got jumped by some clueless trainer who couldn't see i was in a hurry, Ace and i swiftly dealt with
him which caused Ace to evolve into a Sceptile. I momentarily forgot i was in the middle of a chase to marvel at him, I never thought i'd see this moment, since
finding out about the Life-force Phenomena and being warned about not getting attached i had assumed i would have lost Ace a long time ago.

I finally made it to Meteor falls, where Brendan was already confronting two people from Team Magma. A man behind them who i assumed was professor Cozmo. Brendan and i teamed up to battle, though i can't say it went smoothly, we had only battled each other twice before and we didn't exactly spend a lot of time together so it was hard to battle as an effective team. Regardless we got the job done. However at the moment of defeat, when An admin named Tabitha was spilling the beans on the plan (something to do with the meteorite and energy combining from Mt.Chimney's volcano) we were interrupted by...pirates? Tabitha called them Team Aqua, stole the meteorite from Cozmo and fled the scene. The boss of the blue team, Archie apparently, warned me not to get in his way. His goal apparently was to stop team magma (so they were our allies?)and they aimed to create a pristine world for everyone survival (i think he said something along those lines but i had absolutely no idea what he meant). It was probably safer to consider both teams enemies for now.

---Mt.Chimney---
Spoiler:

After seeing Cozmo safely back to his home, Brendan and i decided to head down towards Mauville city together. Apparently he wanted to get the gym badge there.
I personally just wanted to head up to Mt.Chimney, clearly something nefarious was in the works up there and i had to get to the bottom of it. We parted ways
at the base of the mountain and i turned my attention to the cable car. there was no sign of magma, so whatever they were doing, it must be in effect.

When i finally reached the top (the car didn't travel all that fast, suppose it was meant to be scenic) i arrived to a battle ground. Aqua and Magma littered the top of
the volcano locked in battle. No one seemed to notice me, so i casually made my way over to the crater where i could see Maxie tinkering with a machine. My clothes
clung to my skin in an uncomfortably sticky fashion, how anyone else could stand the heat up here was beyond me.

Tabitha was the only one to block my path as i approached, but i beat them down as easily as we had back at meteor falls (i feel bad but i honestly cannot tell that
persons gender) It was not long before i was face to face with Maxie once more. He seemed impressed with me, but once again his compliments sounded backwards.
Regardless the 'education' he provided me was enlightening. There was indeed a super ancient pokemon trapped in a deep slumber. This pokemon had the power to
create landmass. Team magma was working towards waking it up 'for the good of everyone'. Idiots. Wasn't he aware of the effect his actions were having on the
delicate balance of the world? Had he not noticed the suffering that the pokemon around him were going through? No it couldn't be his fault, not directly. And no of
course Maxie had no clue because his head was so full of his own ideals he had become blind to the reality around him. Somehow that super ancient pokemon was aware that people were working towards waking it from its slumber. Somehow it was manipulating forces to help that happen through LP. This is the only conclusion i can reach, for other than the act of meddling with energies that he cannot possibly comprehend i do not see how Maxie himself could cause it.

We battled when i told him how stupid he was. Other than his camerupt being strong enough to nearly one shot Prince with a ground move, he wasn't all that tough.
Shortly after the battle however he received a phone call before happily handing me the meteorite as an apology!? I was baffled to say the least, was he just giving
up? That didn't seem to be the case, as Archie finally arrived after Maxie had left, cursing himself at his poor timing and letting it slip about some orbs that were
the 'real deal.' My mind raced, Maxie had mentioned Mt.Pyre, was that the location he was heading next? as for the orbs, had the meteorite just been a substitute he
was trying to create since he didn't know the location of the real items? What exactly could these orbs do and how were they connected to the ancient pokemon. I felt
dizzy, perhaps it was the heat. I should continue down to lavaridge town and rest at the PC, i could contemplate all this later.

---Lavaridge gym---
Spoiler:
Needless to say there was actually very little in lavaridge town, just a couple of houses, a PC, mart, hot spring and a gym, so after a good nights rest and a quick
summary of the information i had dug up from Mt.Chimney i headed off to fight Flannery, who was indeed a fire type trainer. Though she seriously needed a lesson in
being natural. She was stiff, loud and confused, clearly trying to be someone she wasn't.

Team layout for Flannery:
1. Prince
2. Baxter
3. Fred
4. Mira
5. Ace
6. Neko

>>>Flannery battle<<<
- Flannery began with Slugma, while i went for the obvious choice of Prince, afterall i had lost Fang for him. However i went for the safe choice and started with
aqua ring. Slugma had the same idea because it began with Sunny Day. slightly problematic as my next move water pulse barely did as much damage as it should have.
Infact Slugma's overheat dealt as much damage as i had, and considering the typings at play here, that was pretty worrying. I followed with a horn attack for a damage
comparison and found it to nearly knock Slugma down, interesting, though the physical contact did result in Prince recieving a nasty burn to the face. Still,
Flannery was now on the defensive, ordering a light screen before administering a hyper potion. Thanks to its burn and the sunny weather Prince might as well have
been watering the grass with its next water pulse. It was time to switch tactics.

- I sent Mira in, unfortunately she took the hit of an overheat before her feet had touched the battleground floor. Thankfully however, she brushed it off with only
minor damage and the offending sunlight disappeared also. Mira turned the battle around in an instant. The magnitude move that i had her remember worked wonders,
knocking Slugma out for the count instantly.

- Torkoal was our next opponant, and i decided to keep Mira in play, opting for a slash attack as i didn't want to be a one-trick ponyta. Unfortunately Mira's claws
slid harmlessly off of torkoal's tough shell and the enemy once again summoned forth a blinding sunlight. Fine, magnitude it was. It seems Mira was as frustrated
by the failed slash as i was, as the enxt magnitude she pulled out was the strongest one i had ever felt. Torkoal was crippled in an instant.

- I let Mira take a break, and allowed Baxter to take the field, which was a good thing too as we were up against a numel, they could leanr a good variety of
ground type moves and you didnt have to be weak to it to feel its devastation. The sun was still shining, and i hoped it wouldnt dazzle Baxter too much.I wanted to
hit hard and fast, so i ordered a Brave bird. It did the job, Baxter being skilled enough to have sussed out the best way to reduce the recoil. He seemed proud of
himself when numel toppled over behind him, and Flannery hung her head in defeat.

It seems Flannery realised the error of her ways through the battle. Good for her. We recieved the Heat badge and with it the License that allowed the use of
Strength outside of battle. Guess i should get on with teaching that HM to Mira. She also gifted us with Overheat, but since i lacked a fire-type there wasnt
much i could do with it.

Dice roll: 6 Lost Neko (honestly panicked a little because i couldnt remember if Ace was 5 or 6, obviously i love my little kitty but losing the starter will be a
sad day)

I knew what to expect, the PC was just opposite from the gym and i went there straight away to have my team examined. The nurse looked a little tired, possibly from
the weight of bad news, and i had an inkling she'd been giving out a lot of it these last few days. It didn't surprise me at all that the pokemon nurses were one of
the first to notice the phenomena. It was Neko this time, and i was surprised by the lack of surprise i felt at the revelation. I suspected if Fang were still with me,
it would have been him who i'd be sending to Birch now. Thinking back over the past four gym battles, the team that i had lost had all been members who hadn't
actually partaken in the battle itself, perhaps battling was a way to counter LP? Halting the theft of life as you greedily snatch up all your energy for yourself
to perform your very best, there was no way to ever know the answer to that one. I contemplated telling Nurse joy the truth about what was going on bit quickly
decided against it. The information wasn't mine to share, maybe if i gave Birch the compilation of all my findings so far he could hold a press conference or
something.

Brendan Entered the PC just as i had finished sending Neko to Birch, he spotted me straight away as he approached and looked concerned but didn't ask any questions, i guess i couldn't hide my down expression fast enough. Instead he lightheartedly asked what i got up to after we separated, expressing both worry and surprise over learning that i had gone off to fight Team magma after he left. After spotting my new badge he gave me a pair of goggles, stating that the desert
nearby was a good place to catch new pokemon. After he casually asked if i was going to Petalburg to challenge my dad, and if i was, would we like to go together?
Good kid that Brendan, trying to help me out in his own way. Challenging my dad though, that wouldn't be such a bad idea.

I briefly contemplated visiting the desert, though i reckoned it would mostly be full of ground and rock types, not that it was a bad thing, but already had a ground
type in my party and i didn't want to unbalance the team. While contemplating where to find my next party member i was approached by an elderly woman who asked if i would care for an egg she had found. Apparently she had hoped the hot spring mud baths would be appropriate enough to hatch it, but turns out it wasnt the case. She suspected it would need the touch of a loving trainer and her party. I looked down at the egg in her hands and contemplated for a while. I had just lost Neko to LP,
her life would be ending soon surely, but in its place, a brand new life would spring. Despite LP the world kept trying, and perhaps i could study the baby from the
get go, see how it's affected. After a short deliberation i accepted the egg, whatever was inside, it would become member 6.

stronger than the others i had seen on the route, at lvl 25 rather than 16, and also knew the rock climb move.

I'm feeling quite sorry for old Neko... I can't imagine being allergic to my own breath... :(
How are you finding the gameplay aspect of having to switch your team so much? Do you find it a challenge or is it relatively straight forward?

Loving the story keep it up! :D

Was pretty straight forward at the beginning, but getting slowly more challenging as the story progresses.
I'm actually really enjoying the team switching aspect. My problem in the games is that there's usually too many pokemon i want to use considering we're only allowed six, so having to switch regularily allows me to use pokemon i wouldn't usually have the opportunity too (such as i never use bug pokemon but I've realized how awesome Dustox is) And the random aspect of the switching means ive got to constantly be planning ahead, and then making back-up plans in case the dice rolls on someone i'm about to desperately need namely a devolping HM slave or say my goldeen when im about to need surf (i can totally see this happening with Norman)

overall i'm finding this a lot more fun than i originally thought i would

So I started my play through of Soul Silver, and decided that I'm going to record it for my YouTube channel. If anyone is interested in following it, I'll post the video in a spoiler tag at the end of my post.

Choosing my starter
Spoiler:
I woke up on a very sunny evening and went downstairs for some food. I loved lying in and I hardly ever woke up before midday. As soon as I got downstairs, mum told me that the Pokemon professor who lived next door wanted to see me. She also gave me a new bag to keep my stuff in, as well as a load of other goodies! Once I'd got everything from mum, I went outside to go and see the professor. As soon as I stepped outside I ran into Lyra and her buddy Marill. They looked like they were having fun, but I had an errand to run. On my way one of my neighbors complimented me on my new bag, which was nice :)
So I went into the professor's lab and he told me that he had a favor to ask of me. He wanted me to visit one of his research acquaintances, Mr. Pokemon. He even let me choose my very own Pokemon from the 3 that he had in his lab; Chikorita, Totodile, and Cyndaquil. I can't believe it! I'm getting my own Pokemon! But who to choose? After looking at each one carefully I decided to go for the fire type Pokemon, Cyndaquil.

Cyndaquil Acquired
http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/cyndaquil.gif
I nicknamed my new friend Flint.

Going to Mr. Pokemon's house
Spoiler:
After I was done talking to the professor in the lab, I went to start my errand for Professor Elm. I ran into Lyra again who said she loved my choice of Pokemon! I went to talk to mum again to let her know that I'm going to see Mr. Pokemon and she gave me the PokeGear so I can keep in touch with my friends. After registering Prof. Elm's number I headed off on my journey into Route 29. On my way through we had a couple of battles with wild Sentret and Flint leveled up and learned Smokescreen!
When I got into Cherrygrove, an old man showed me around the town and gave me some running shoes to help me on my journey! I healed up my Pokemon and went to try and buy some Pokeballs from the mart, but they were SOLD OUT! So I decided to just head on up Route 30 to try and find Mr. Pokemon's house. Just as I was leaving, that old man who gave me the running shoes stopped me and loaded the town map card into my PokeGear! What a nice guy he is! After loading in the card, I headed of up Route 30 where I battled some pidgey and found a potion just lying about on the floor! I also met a man who gave me an Apricorn box, which I can use to store any apricorns I find. By the time I got up to Mr. Pokemon's house, Flint had leveled up again!
I harvested the Pink Apricorn outside then went into his house. Once I got in, Mr. Pokemon showed me the Mystery Egg that he had, and asked me to take it to Prof. Elm so he can study it.
Professor Oak was also at Mr. Pokemon's house and he gave me a Pokedex! Imagine that! ME with a Pokedex! I registered Prof. Oak's number in the Pokegear and went to take the Mystery Egg to Prof. Elm. But as soon as I left Mr. Pokemon's house, I got a call from Prof. Elm saying that some sort of disaster had happened! I had better get back there as soon as possible!

That's where I stopped the first episode, though you may be able to tell from my signature, I have already carried on playing, and acquired a second Pokemon.
I hope everyone is enjoying the challenge!

Update #4!
Okay so i kind of forgot that at after Norman in OR and AS Latios/as just kind of...force their way into your party. I hate using legendaries honestly but at least these ones are pretty mediocre (i mean that in a good way of course) so i don't feel overpowered with one, besides there was an open slot on my team and trying to replace it would probably end up in someone else being replaced instead. DW folks i wont 'kill it off' in the same way my others have, its a legendary after all, its a ..temporary alliance till it gets bored with me lol.

The journey:
Spoiler:
>>>Battle with Norman<<<
Spoiler:
Brendan and i headed back to petalburg together, he seemed a bit nervous from time to time but i couldnt fathom what was bothering him so i asked no questions. It was time to challenge my father.
Team before Norman:
1.Ace
2.Baxter
3.Fred
4.Mira
5.Prince
6.???

- Father began with Slaking, and it was good to see my old friends in good condition, the final confirmation for my LP theory. But
now was not the time. I had to prove myself, and what better way to do it than with my very first partner Ace. Straight off the bat
we began with a super effective critical hit Rock smash. Though Slaking was seriously injured, it brushed the attack off with an
unimpressed yawn. I noticed Ace's eyelids getting droopy, i probably had time to pull off one more command before Ace succumbed
to sleep. We finished off Slaking with a leaf blade, before Ace fell asleep on his feet. Quickly, i withdrew him before my father
could send out another pokemon.

- I switched out Ace for Fred, while Father followed with Vigoroth. This would be an interesting line-up. If i remembered correctly
Vigoroth's were the exact opposite of the rest of their evolutionary line, and absolutely bursting with vitality and energy. Still,
with started off with a strategic toxic...only for Norman to order a strategic encore. Vigoroth's mad clapping and cheering went to
Fred's head and he refused to use any other move, i chose to withdraw fred for now, atleast toxic was in play. Matching speed for
speed Baxter entered the fray, and barely felt the retaliate that he was smacked with. Administering an aerial ace in a
retaliation of his own. The move wasn't quite enough to take down vigoroth and Baxter had to tolerate another hit, but Fred's
Toxic finished the opponent off.

- I sent Fred back out for Father's third and final pokemon: Another Slaking. Thankfully he had gotten over his encore but the psybeam
he unleashed was pretty weak, and the retaliate damage we received was extremely damaging. Fred had, had enough battle for one day and
once again i swapped him out, this time for Mira. True to it's nature, Slaking didn't attack, just scratched its belly sleepily, observing
the new opponant before it. I hoped to use Dig to avoid any attacks, but Slaking was surprisingly faster than us and smacked us with a
swagger, causing Mira to trip over herself in confusion. I tried again with a slash attack, and thankfully Mira snapped out of it
straight away, dealing extra damage thanks to Swagger's earlier buffs. Our next dig attack finished it off, but not after taking heavy
damage from a chip away. My father had trained his pokemon well, and they had the advanatage of not being part of the LP generation.
While none of my team fainted, a lot of them had suffered serious injuries and status conditions making Norman the toughest gym leader i
had faced yet

My father was shocked at the loss, but also proud, and handed me the balance badge and the license to surf, as well as the retaliate TM as
a personal gift. It was a good battle.

Dice roll: 3 lost Fred D:

Perhaps it was the injuries sustained during battle, but Fred's health would just not recover in the PC. This was the first gym battling
member i had lost, and also one of my original six, it was sad to have to send him away. Birch tried to confort me over the phone, telling
me about everything he was doing to keep his charges as comfortable and as fulfilled as possible, but urged me to reach the bottom of the
mystery as soon as i could, we seriously needed to set the world straight.

As i left the PC i bumped into my dad again, he expressed concern over Fred, before noticing the missing pokeball on my belt. I ended up telling
him everything, he was shocked to say the least, and after a long hug, he vowed he'd keep his ears open for me, even going so far as to question
any young up-and coming trainers who pass through his gym, which i appreciated. I walked him back to his gym, wondering where i could find the Surf
HM, as i would surely need it to advance, when we bumped into Wally of all people! Looks like he was visiting his parents. Pleasantries were
exchanged, and i was surprised to receive yet another gift from Wally's relatives (this time it was his dad). Funnily enough it was the surf HM.
How convenient. I ended up traveling back to Mauville city with Wally, both on our way to route 118 and the great beyond. It was nice to have the
distraction of company.

---Fighting amist a dream---
Spoiler:
After teaching Prince Surf we departed onto route 118, where after re-battling a few trainers Prince finally evolved into a seaking. The water separating
Mauville and route 118 was actually really small, and could be considered a small lake. I must say, surfing on the back of Prince was quite ridiculous,
I had to hug my poor Seaking for dear life, though thankfully my pokemon was strong and could drag me through the water with ease. When we emerged on the
other side i was quite frankly soaked. A friendly fisherman seemed amused as i tried to dry off my clothes and threw me a towel he kept handy. We chatted
a while as i dried off and he gifted me with a good rod saying i could use it to catch myself a 'bigger boat' i accepted it gratefully you never know when
it could come in handy. I didn't get too far into the route when i met a familiar face.I'm pretty sure his name was Steven, yes that's it i had to deliver a
letter to him over a week ago (with everything that had happened it felt a lot longer than that!) We chatted a bit, catching up and for some reason he seemed
pretty interested in my opinions (was he hitting on me? he was like 10 years my senior surely) As he turned to go however, a strange occurance happened. A faint
cry drew our attention to the sky before the rare and legendary latias descended in front of us. I was too stunned to act, but Steven noticed her distress
straight away and spurred me into action.

Steven and i both traveled to a distant island, soaring on Latias's back. It was quite frankly amazing! The speeds she could achieve were unbelievable, though
my stomach didnt agree so much with my head. As amazing as i was finding the trip it was also making me feel a bit queasy. I was glad when we finally landed.
Though that didn't last long, Steven sensed i too, but the island held an aura of fear? No, more like unease, as if something was wrong. Latias nodded towards a
cluster of trees further in, and Steven and i hurried over to them. On the other side was a Pokemon, similar in appearance to Latias but blue. Latios. He sat
infront of a pedestal, the stream and cliffs curving around behind him created a scenic picture of seclusion and secrecy. Around his arm, attached somehow by
a crudely made bracelet (Latias's doing perhaps) was a stone with a mysterious Aura. We approached cautiously; Steven full of nothing but praise for the beauty
of the Dragon/Psychic type pokemon before us. While he was ogling however, more visitors arrived in the form of Team Magma. They wanted Latios and the stone it
held.

Latias must have known they were coming and enlisted our aide (i have no idea why she chose us though, perhaps we were the first people she found)I had no doubt
that the two legendaries could easily handle the intruders on their own, but there was no guarantee that Team magma wouldn't resort to trickery without other humans
around to stop them. Steven and i teamed up to battle The Admin (Courtney apparently. she was super weird) and her grunt. We actually worked surprisingly well
together too and made an effective team. Prince had also powered up from evolving, that much became apparent in an instant. I put our effective teamwork down to
Steven's experience as a trainer, he probably anticipated my moves and worked to compliment them.

Battling Team Magma in a hidden grove, on a faraway island under the watchful gaze of a legendary pokemon was a little bit surreal. But when all was said and done
Latios seemed impressed by me - of all people- and according to Steven, wanted to travel with me for the time being. Perhaps it sensed the inbalance and LP? Perhaps
it wanted to help, regardless, i could tell that this pokemon had been around for a long time and was immune to the phenomenon's effects. I also understood that this
was a temporary alliance. I would never be the true master of this pokemon, and should it ever wish to return to it's life of wandering i would be inclined to let it
go. With all this in mind i extended my hand to the pokemon and cemented our alliance. I was not presumptuous enough to give it a nickname.

Since Latios was willing and able, Steven gave me a mega ring and taught me all about mega evolution, though he couldn't elaborate much on mega stones or key stones.Turns out i already had a couple of these in my possession, though none were compatible with my existing team.

---The weather institute---
Spoiler:
I have nothing much to say about route 119 except it was wet. And wet some more, with an extra side of wet. Seriously that place never seems to stop raining. At least Prince enjoyed it. Also encountered my first horde of pokemon here, a group of oddish, it would have been scary if they all weren't so...weak.

I came across a weather institute during my travels and decided to go inside, perhaps there was a reason for all this rain? I'd never been this far from home before
so i wasn't the most knowledgeable on the Hoenn region itself, every day was a learning experience. The receptionist inside smiled warmly, but there was a hint of
nervousness there too. She welcomed me politely but mentioned there was trouble brewing inside the building. I decided to investigate and was only slightly surprised
to see team Magma here. While i did not know their purpose, information from a little boy hiding in a store room suggested that they were holding the institute workers
hostage for some reason. I was beginning to make it my mission to get in their way, especially since i knew their end game was what was upsetting the planets balance.

As i made it to the upper floor i recognized the voice of Tabitha. S/he seemed confused and a little bit angry...toward..Maxie? Had S/he discovered something to do with
his plan? Did stealing the institutes research clue them in to what Maxie was doing to the world? It certainly sounded that way. Well whatever was bothering Tabitha they clearly didn't want to share, instead passing me off as a stalker and then threatening to beat me to a pulp. Needless to say i was the one doing the beating. They left me with some chilling words after i won the battle though...
"When Maxie's plan comes to fruition twilight will fall upon the world. Primordial sea will be changed to desolate land. In other words, all life..." It was exactly
what i had feared. Maxie's plan and the ancient pokemon, together they would upset the world greatly and LP would be the least of our problems. If anything LP was the warning and the first sign of the coming of the end. This was becoming a big research project, no it was becoming something more than that. Kind of like something out of a game. Everything was so farfetched and yet the evidence to it all happening lay right before me.

I turned town the pokemon that was offered to me in thanks. My team was full anyway and it would do more good at the institute so instead i was given information.
Team magma had wanted research on weather patterns of a thousand years ago in connection to a pair of legendary beasts. One of which was Groudon, apparently Groudon would absorb energy from the natural world and transform itself. Transformed, Groudon caused massive disturbance in weather patterns until the world grew barren. Oceans dried up and parched earth began to cover the entire planet. This had been named Primal Reversion and the resulting terror ended up naming the transformed beast Primal Groudon. apparently this was similar to mega evolution, yet somehow different. With the beast being so ancient and asleep it was currently impossible to study it further and frankly i wasn't surprised that no one had a desire to. This all seemed horribly familiar to LP.

I had to get to Mt.Pyre at my earliest convenience.

I continued on my way to Fortree City (it was still raining! And now there was even thunder overhead, Ridiculous!) Where i bumped into an energetic Brendan. We battled briefly, though he only had three pokemon with him. Guess he'd lost a few... i didnt see the electrike he had challenged me with last time... anyway. for winning he gifted me with the Fly HM. i instantly taught it to Latios (i would have chosen Baxter but he had a pretty good move-set already, Latios was a bitlacking however. Even if i couldn't use it outside of battle yet, it was a very useful move to know.

After finally arriving in Fortree City i spent the night in the PC and was very thankful to see the storm had cleared up the next morning.

---Fortree city---

Spoiler:
Strange. There was something very solid, but very invisible blocking the path to the gym...apparently i wasnt crazy, other people had been noticing it lately too. Well, nothing much i could do, perhaps i could return to this city at a later date. Would of been nice and convenient to get the flying license though.

As i was leaving the Fortree city area i bumped into Steven on the bridge. Strange, seemed to be seeing that guy everywhere. He commented on an invisible force blocking the bridge (here too?!) but rather than perplexed he seemed...amused? Then with little explanation he gave me some weird looking goggles and said it would be more amusing seeing me use them. Hesitantly i did, holding the ugly things against my eyes as i looked around wondering what exactly i was looking for. Suddenly, a Pokemon was before me on the bridge. It was blurry at first, but after a second of staring the kecleon came into sharp focus. Startled i lowered the goggles, but the pokemon was still standing before me where it hadn't been moments before.....the invisible object? Kecleons using camouflage? Did these goggles make the invisible, visible to the naked eye!? I didn't have much time to ponder as, startled at being forced out of hiding, the pokemon attacked!

Steven looked very amused the entire time. smug git. But i couldnt complain about it too much, after i sent the Kecleon packing he gifted me the goggles(said it was called a devon scope), stating he liked me so much because he enjoyed seeing people doing their very best. He's a really nice guy. he also gave me one of his favorite stones - a mega stone for a Sceptile, unbelievable! After parting ways Ace and i were eager to test it out straight away. The poor pokemon we encountered didn't stand a chance. Ace's mega evolution looked awesome - like a real forest guardian! But i had to wonder if the temporary transformation was painful? after all it wasn't permanent it was merely altering the existing body...Ace seemed okay though so perhaps that was a research paper for when i was older. Now we could challenge the gym!

Team layour before the battle:
1.Baxter
2.Prince
3.Latios
4.Mira
5.Ace
6.???

>>>Battling Winona<<<
- The battle started off with Swellow Vs Swellow, but i was certain that my Baxter had the advantage. I began with agility, to improve our
already impressive speed. It was like looking into a mirror, as Winona had a similar idea with double team meaning we had to do something quick.
Switching gears we went onto the offensive, delivering a painful Air slash attack. The hit connected with the real opponant and the damage was
evident, but not enough. As second double team was unleashed and i lost track of the original. So did Baxter it seems, as the quick attack i ordered next
merely passed through a handful of opponents allowing Winona to heal up her partner. Brave bird missed too, but the amount of copies was dwindling. The
original Swellow dashed seemingly out of now where, smacking Baxter straight in the gut with an Aerial ace, but Baxter had always been tough and gutsy,
even back on the day i caught him, and he recovered quickly. However none of our attacks could connect with the opponant, and the minute we removed the
last of the clones, Swellow used double team again. This was becoming aggravating and Baxter was quickly beginning to tire (i was also regretting allowing
him to forget aerial ace himself after all it was a move that never missed) Desperate, i ordered one last move. Brave bird. If this didnt connect i would
switch Baxter out for a rest and hope someone else had a better shot of hitting Winona's tricky pokemon. Baxter seemed determined, and locked onto a specific
target. It seems his eyes had managed to follow the original with the last double team, and the attack hit head on, every ounce of stength he possessed going
into that one rage fueled attack. Swellow was knocked out instantly, and the recoil from the move was intense, forcing Baxter to land. But my brave bird held
on and cried out in victory. I allowed him to rest.

- Mira was up next, hopefully i could use her to my advantage. Sure ground types were ineffective but she did know rollout. An attack i ordered straight away.
It seems skarmory (and winona) hadn't been expecting that, as the low flying metal bird got smacked over and over again by the relentless boulder that Mira had
become. She made excellent use of the surroundings too, making use of anything remotely ramp shaped to launch herself into the air whenever Skarmory tried to take
to the skies to dodge, the air cutters that it bombarded us with bounced off harmlessly and eventually Mira became too much to handle, knocking the opponent flat
for a second win.

- We had a good thing going so i allowed Mira to stay in battle, besides it seemed cruel to pull her out mid roll. however this time Winona was onto our little game
and instantly ordered the pelipper she sent out to use protect, halting the boulder in its tracks. Mira uncurled herself, dizzy but none the worse for wear. My next
move was foolish of me, as i opted to leave mira in battle then and ordered a slash attack rather than a tactical retreat. Pelipper took the attack well and countered
with water pulse. Mira couldn't hold on, she was knocked out. My first knockout in any gym battle and it was due to my own stupidity. I had let that one get to my
head a bit. I sent Latios to avenge her. but once again Pelipper protected itself from our attacks. Winona was indeed tricky. I hoped a dragon breath attack would
paralyze the annoying sea bird, but it didn't, neither did it quite finish the pokemon off. At least the aerial ace it countered with bounced off Latios's steel-like
body. I ordered a fly attack next, half expecting Winona to heal her pokemon again and was surprised when she didnt. Was even more surprised when she didnt protect herself from the attack either. Latios avenged Mira.

- Altaria was sent out next, and i allowed Latios to stay, certain that the pokemon before me was part dragon. This would be a double edged sword if i was right.
Dragon breath seemed to be super effective and even paralyzed the fluffy thing, putting it on the defensive with a cotton guard. Wanting to finish this off quickly and
get Mira to a PC, we finished up with a Luster purge. Latios was impressive that's for sure. Not over powered, but impressive enough to earn its title of a legendary
pokemon.

We finally managed to beat Winona, earning ourselves the feather badge and its flying license before being gifted roost (personally i thought it was a silly move,
sure it allowed a pokemon to recover in battle, but it also made them susceptible to ground type attacks. Use it at the wrong instance and your bird gets a nasty
surprise)

Dice roll: 4 (NOOOOOOOOO gods of dice why!? though considering the battle...strangely appropriate) Lost Mira

I...honestly don't have much to say. I never made it to the PC in time to save Mira, the nurse informed me it was too late upon submitting my pokemon to be healed.
Feeling shocked and numb, i contacted Birch and rather roboticaly delivered my findings on groudon telling him it was highly likely it was the cause of our
problems. Then i dunno, the next few days passed and i was still kind of mooching around the pokemon centre for a while just..resting my team i guess. it was a full
3 days before i felt ready to leave Fortree City after losing Mira. It was actually Ace who slapped me in the face looking all angry that i was wallowing. But i
understood his fierce gaze. Don't let it be wasted. Don't waste time. Don't let others suffer.

This is a Sequel to my Story Challenge in Pokemon Fire Red. The story took place four years ago.

Name: Userdamname (Eddie in-game)
Game: Emerald
Genre: Action/Comedy

I'm Eddie, I am 16 years old. I am moving to Littleroot Town and I'm ready to start my own Journey.

Chapter 1

After all those days, I am sitting in the truck waiting to get out. I made it to this little village called Littleroot town. I saw my mom and she showed me inside the house. She told me dad's got a new clock in my room. So I set up that clock. My mom saw my dad on T.V. My mom told me that one of dad's friends live in town. He is our next door neighbor. I came into the neighbor's house and a lady told me her daughter is upstairs. The only thing I saw was a Pokeball. Meanwhile, Some girl encounters me. She found out I just moved to Littleroot Town. Her name is May, Turns out she is like 14 years old. She is Professor Birch's Daughter. She was gonna help her dad do some research.

I was gonna find Professor Birch but turns out that idiot was being chased by a Zigzagoon. Birch told me there's Pokeballs in his bag. So I stopped the Zigzagoon with Mudkip. Professor Birch asked me to find his daughter May in Route 103. May was researching until she found me. She wanted to battle.

May began with her Treeko as I sent out Sergeant Finz the Mudkip. Treeko uses Leer but Finz tackled back. His attack missed. Treeko leers again but Finz strike with a Tackle. Treeko uses Pound but Finz retaliates with Tackle. It was a critical hit. Treeko fainted. May took me back to the lab.

Since Latios was willing and able, Steven gave me a mega ring and taught me all about mega evolution, though he couldn't elaborate much on mega stones or key stones.Turns out i already had a couple of these in my possession, though none were compatible with my existing team.

NOOOO MIRA!?!
I can't believe you killed off one of your pokemon! Poor Mira! D:
Loving the story, have you planned out an ending for figuring out why your Pokemon keep getting LP?

I'm sorry Mira :'( but the gods of the dice decided it would be so, so it kind of fit better from a telling perspective.. its okay latios and my new absol are too old for LP but you know latios is a temporary alliance so he can leave when he wants to and absol is a disaster pokemon i mean if he senses a natural disaster how can he NOT want to go and warn people...so thats two who are safe..and i cant kill off a baby if anything its too young for all of this so thats 3... sorry just Baxter Ace and Prince who are in danger now if the dice are unkind D: Two gyms left.. *fingers crossed*

Story wise: Yeah i have actually, i realised when i was being told about primal groudon that Omega ruby was the PERFECT game for LP, since it does talk about how he takes energy from his surroundings to transform into primal groudon, so perhaps waking up does something similar, i mean, it never stated specifically nature or non living things... But seriously this story line would not have worked with any other game, pure luck and coincidence too. If i play again again with a different game though to see if its any more or less difficult i'll probably be less creative my poor pokemon need a break :D

On a side note, i wish i'd looked up what pokemon hatched from that egg before i accepted it..what am earth am i to do with a wynaut? lol

Edit: Next update may take a couple of days, Digimon world: Next order came out so i'll be multi-tasking between that and my two running challenges. Heres hoping someone else updates in that time so i don't have to edit this post again :L

It's been a while sincec I posted an update! Sorry for the delay, real life things getting in the way :P
Anyways, here is episode 2's update. I'll be getting episode 3 up on here shortly :)

Team at the beginning:

Crime at Elm's Lab:
Spoiler:
So something had happened at Elm's lab?! As soon as I heard that I rushed back down Route 30 to Cherrygrove City where I healed Flint before deciding that it would be a good idea to train him up before heading to Elm's lab. Who knew what was ahead of me, so I thought having a stronger partner would only help whatever situation lay ahead. I battled a few wild Hoothoot to get flint up to level 9 before carrying on back to Elm's lab.
As soon as I left Cherrygrove, I ran into an odd boy with red hair called Paul who said he was going to be the best Pokemon trainer in the world. He was a bit odd, but he had a Totodile that he must have got from Professor Elm, so I can only assume Elm thought he was going to be a good trainer. I got back to New Bark Town and went straight to Elm's lab where I was accused of a crime! Luckily Lyra ran in and said she saw the same red haired guy I battled commit it! Who'd have thought?! I gave the officer his name and he ran off to investigate.
Now that that was sorted I gave Elm the Mystery Egg from Mr. Pokemon and went to talk to mom who said she'd look after my money for me.
After that I was on my way back to Cherrygrove when Lyra caught up with me and taught me how to catch Pokemon! She also gave me some free pokeballs to help me build my team! I immediately put them to use and caught the first Hoothoot I ran in to! I called my new friend Wisdom!

Hoothoot Acquired!

After all the drama of the Mystery Egg and the crime at Elm's lab, I decided I was going to get back to Cherrygrove City pokecentre to rest! I battled a few wild hoothoot along the way but other than that, the trip was uneventful apart from Flint getting to level 10 and learning ember.

The journey:
Spoiler:

---Mt. Pyre---
Spoiler:
I caught Lucian the absol not far outside of Fortree city. Or should i say, he tested me. He strolled out of the long grass silently and stared me down, determination in its eyes. My pokedex said it was a disaster pokemon, as where ever it was seen natural disasters were soon to follow, though whether it created them or warned against them it was hard to say. Judging from the look in his eyes though i was willing to bet that they tried to warn people. Lucian knew, that much i was certain of, and he wanted to help, but first he wanted to check i was up to the task. He was strong that much was for sure, taking out Prince in a few hits, but after a short struggle i caught him. He would be a great help against the next gym leader and perhaps his disaster senses could help me find a way to stop Groudon and Maxie.

After a long hike, i spotted a group of magma grunts hurrying in the direction of Mt.Pyre, i still had time, i could make it! Quickly i headed to Lilycove City where i gave my team a much needed rest before we hurried off in pursuit. As we left the PC however, the egg in my possession started to squirm and crack. Of all the times to choose to hatch! I quickly slipped off my jacket and made a comfy nest on the floor before placing the egg in it, waiting for it to hatch impatiently. After 5 minutes of wriggling, a Wynaut burst from the egg and stared up at me before greeting me warmly. What on earth was i to do with a baby Wynaut? it's evolution line was known for being completely defensive. If i were to use this baby i would have to change my battle style completely, there wasn't time to debate it however. I hugged it warmly, as a parent ought to do and named it Youngling. She would have to come along with me for now, i still had to study her for LP afterall. I offered her a pokeball and she went in happily. Good for now, witht hat done i carried on in my pursuit of team Magma. The team and i could get to know Youngling properly later.

Youngling grew...quickly, after a few wild pokemon got in our way (a horde included) on the way to Mt.Pyre, she evolved into a Wynaut after hiding behind Latios and observing the battles. I'm pretty sure these guys evolved from happiness too...guess shes a pretty happy go lucky little thing, i'll feel a little less bad about dragging her along so suddenly into the operations of the enemy, but it seems like this is just one big adventure to her.

Turns out Mt.Pyre is a graveyard tower for departed pokemon, and there were a lot of trainers willing to battle here, im not sure if that's respectful or disrespectful...Anyway after battling my way to the top of the tower i found out i was a fraction too late. He has a red orb in his possession and was unwilling to battle me. He must have been confident in his plans though, as not only did he ask Courtney to crush me (she was the weird girl from Latios's island!) But he also announced that he was going to steal the submarine from Slateport. Does he secretly want me to stop him? I wont let courtney win, he knows i'll come after him regardless, wouldn't his life be easier if i had to work to find him at the very least? Regardless i cannot let him wake Groudon. I need to ensure the beast stays in a deep slumber, only then can the balance be restored, i'm sure of it.

One day i'll encounter an opponent who has a full team of six pokemon. Courtney challenged me with just one camerupt. which Prince defeated with one waterfall...Team magma is a joke..so how is Maxie always one step ahead. The elderly couple that had been guarding the orbs entrusted mewith a blue orb, claiming it must never be separated from its twin. I collected it from the pedestal, feeling its power as i did so. Apparently with the red one Maxie had all he needed to wake Groudon and i could easily understand why with this in my hands. Perhaps, if the red one can wake the beast...could the blue one work in reverse? Worth a shot. Regardless i think its time to follow Maxi to Slateport. Easy for Latios and my Fly license. (I'm trying not to feel sick thinking about it though....)

--- Magma's Hideout---

Spoiler:
The first thing i did after landing was stumble my way into the police station, but my warnings about team magma aiming to steal the newly built submarine were brushed off as a child's prank. How frustrating! Surely they should at least open an inquiry rather than just assume its my imagination! But no, apparently these particular police had barely heard of Team Magma and quite frankly weren't convinced that they were a threat. Frustrated i instead ran over to the shipyard. It wasn't far but i was already wheezing by the time i got there, traveling had done nothing for my stamina. There was a large crowd outside and Captain stern was giving a speech of some sort, but i couldn't hear a word he was saying over the blood rushing through my ears. Still, Captain Stern owed me a favor, and he had encountered Team Magma before, surely he would believe me.

Turns out the good captain was being interviewed for TV. As soon as the film crew left he came over for a friendly chat, explaining they had found a cavern on the seafloor of route 128 (possibly the den of an ancient pokemon he thinks too). Interesting but not important right now, i rudely interrupted him as i blurted out my warning. However i was once again too late. That battle delayed me enough it seems, as a voice was broadcast over a megaphone...and of course inside the shipyard the submarine was slinking away, though not before Maxie told me exactly where his hideout was. Seems like he was inviting me to stop him once and for all, or he was eager to put an end to my hounding.

Captain Stern literally begged me to help stop them, afraid his submarine would be used for evil. He even personally took me to lilycove on one of his ships. (no complaints, Latios may be faster but i really hate flying, seriously done a lot of traveling today!) Apparently that cave he found was very relevant after all. There was a very big possibility that Groudon slumbered there. if i could steal or sabotage their submarine perhaps i could delay Maxie's plans long enough to remove the orb from his possession.

Magma's hideout was easy enough to figure out. There were enough grunts scattered about the city and their warnings to stay away from the cove made meinstantly want to go look at the cove. There was also a grunt training wailmer and conveniently blocking ship access to the beach, leaving a suspiciously large hole in a rock the only place to look. I hopped into the ocean with Prince and swam right into it. The giant Team magma symbol that greeted me once my eyes adjusted to the artificial(? looked like...lava?) lighting was impossible to miss. This was definitely the right place. time to trash it.

After a lot of getting lost(seriously why does this place have so many teleporting platforms?)I finally arrived at the docks with the stolen submarine, though unfortunately it seems i had been too late, in such a short amount of time it had already been modified beyond recognition...even including a drill. And on top if it Courtney was here to delay me yet again. I was going to lose Maxie! If i lost him, there was a high chance that i would fail to stop his plans and by extension, Groudon. If i fail...judging from the info from the weather institute, it was more than just LP we had to worry about
about...the world would shrivel...Courtney told me they were going to a place called Seafloor cavern. There weren't any other submarines available, but Captain Stern should know the caverns exact location. If i could obtain the Diving license and locate the HM for it perhaps i could use my Pokemon to get there...

---Mossdeep city---
Spoiler:
We made it to Mossdeep in record time, and after a quick rest at the PC headed straight for the gym. There was no time to waste.
Team before Liza and Tate:
1.Lucian
2.Ace
3.Latios
4.Youngling
5.Baxter
6.Prince

I had not been expecting twin gym leaders, though it was pretty amazing to see their in-sync speech. The battle itself was...Anti-climactic. Lucian and Ace both 1-shot the opponents with Night slash and Leaf blade respectively. We had worked long and hard together, so i wasn't massively surprised at this. On top of that, we all had a common goal, and little time to achieve it. My team understood we needed the Dive license more than the thrill of a good fight.

Dice roll : 2 ...guess i've been managing to avoid it this entire time...dang... lost Ace.
Now Baxter is the only one left from the original 6 :o

I accepted my badge impatiently and turned to leave when Ace fell to one knee, face full of frustration and pain. Beside him Lucian looked concerned, looking down at him solemnly. Ace's eyes met mine with determination as he tried to stand. However the look faltered and was replaced with heart-break when he realized he couldn't do it alone. I helped him up so he could walk out of the gym with his head held high, but had no doubt the look in his eyes mirrored my own.

As we stepped outside of the gym, the ground shook violently accompanied by a massive explosion, and a beam of light shot of from the middle of the ocean.I held Ace tightly until the shaking passed, feeling my blood run cold. Beside me, my oldest friend went very still, and i could practically feel the frustration seeping out of him. Something awful had just begun, perhaps Maxie had reached Groudon? Perhaps that was why my oldest companion had finally fallen prey to LP (much to his annoyance, to get this far only to become a burden at the critical moment) I glanced at Lucian, who himself was looking a little bit peaky, though he didn't look anywhere near as bad as Ace.

Nearby i overheard the townsfolk muttering in fear, one guy mentioned that the light seemed to originate from route 128. why did that sound familiar...Of course! Captain Stern had mentioned he found an underwater cave on route 128! That must have been the same cavern that Groudon slept in! One lady urged her Skitty to calm down, as it was running around in a panicked tizzy. When it did finally come to a halt however, it promptly emptied the contents of its stomach onto the floor. Was that the result of Groudon waking? Was every Pokemon now just starting to feel the drain it caused to fuel its primal form?It wasn't a theory i had time to (or wanted to for that matter) study. I needed to end this.

Steven spotted me at the same time i him. Apparently he had been looking for me and it turned out he lived here in Mossdeep. I was surprised to learn that he had a solid grasp on the majority of the situation with Groudon. Turns out the explosion we saw earlier was his seal breaking. Meaning it was only a short amount of time before Groudon was fully awake...if this was the effect he was having when his seal was undone, then how much worse will the drain of Primal Conversion be? Maxie couldn't understand that he would never have control over Groudon, he didnt understand the scale of destruction it would cause.

(i would like to point out that i have no idea how this super ancient pokemon could sense someone trying to wake it before now, but that's the only conclusion i can reach to the appearance of LP a few weeks ago. Somehow it knew and started to stir, only the seal kept us from feeling the effects of the drain it was causing in order to wake up at full power. I can only conclude it was biding its time and absorbing while it waited for the final key to wake it from its long sleep. With the seal gone, all pokemon must be feeling LP rather than just the sensitive new-born of the last month or two. Unscientific i know, but this IS a god-like pokemon we are talking about)
. Our meeting concluded, i raced to the PC and contacted Birch. His face paled and he instantly started making plans for the worst should i fail. I sent him Ace and begged he take the utmost care of him, before leaving him to his preparations. Steven had given me scuba gear and the dive HM, had asked for my aid in stopping Team magma and aqua, and promised to follow me once he was done with his own preparations. I set out as soon as i had taught Prince the new HM.

---Seafloor Cavern---

Spoiler:
I traveled to route 128 via Sootopolis city. Yes it was a slight detour, but i figured having Latios learn its location for the future couldn't hurt, and it was a good safe place to check the scuba gear wasn't faulty. (it wasn't) I also caught a Chinchou on the ocean floor outside and named him Hope. Wasn't the best of names, but it reflected my feelings on the current situation. Hope was going to require ALOT of training, but he was going to have to learn fast and on the job, as there wasn't much more time to waste. After a quick rest in the Sootopolis PC (as the trip was tiring and filled with strong trainers who couldn't quite understand the urgency of the situation) i finally found an area that looked to be the entrance of the Seafloor Cavern. Oh, and Hope got the memo about learning quickly, as he evolved en-route.

This was definitely the place, as the stolen submarine sat in front of me inside the cavern. I returned Prince to his ball for a much deserved rest and ran down the only tunnel i could see, there was probably no point in changing out of my scuba gear, much safer to leave my clothes in the water proof diving bag that came with my gear. It wasn't long before i hit a snag in the road however. Without Ace i had no one to use rock smash, and had also neglected to actually teach anyone the Strength HM that i had gotten after beating Flannery. Lucian volunteered to learn both, as he was the only one who could.

finally traversed winding paths until i found the inner chambers. Maxie and Archie were here, as well as what appeared to be a stone statue surrounded by molten lava. Was that the sleeping Groudon? While Maxie and Archie argued,i observed it closer, it wasn't asleep. The statue's eyes were open. - that must have been the cause of LP's beginning, Groudon gaining enough energy to physically wake up while he waited for the delivery of the orb, would only get worse from here. Groudon's eyes were lazily flicking between the three of us to see who would fully awaken it from its stone slumber.

I finally made my presence known, Maxie was strangely overjoyed and introduced me to the stone Groudon, he still had it in his head that he could control the beast. Archie seemed to disagree, it seems it was dawning on him what effects waking up a god would have on the world. Though it seems neither had noticed that the prize before them was already awake however. I didn't get an opportunity to speak though, and my words would have fallen on deaf ears. Maxie challenged me to a battle almost immediately, and it seems Archie had already battled him and lost previously as he was helpless to do anything other than watch. I Felt pity for my team having to battle here and in a sense glad that Ace was away with Birch. It was hotter than the volcano down here, the only thing giving me comfort was my still damp wet-suit. though in this heat that was quickly drying out. We defeated him easily though, including his mega-evolved camerupt. Prince took satisfaction in one-shotting it. Must have been some sort of revenge for being unable to defeat it lone back on the volcano.

At this point Maxie was creeping me out. he seemed pleased i had won and had burst into hysterical laughter....because he was going to use the orb anyway and he loved seeing my desperate struggles to thwart him go to waste. A failed hero is basically what he called me. Tabitha arrived on the scene to help try and stop him. It seemed they had finally fully understood the cost of unleashing Groudon, but again her arguments fell on deaf ears. my heart sank as he took out the red orb from his possession. I tried to run towards him, to knock it away, stop it, do anything but it was too late, the minute it was revealed the orb began to react with Groudon's stone form. I watched in horror as the ancient pokemon burst from captivity with a triumphant roar. Barely acknowledging us mere insects now that our role had been played, it left the cavern with a burst of energy that made even my knees feel weak. The true extent of LP was going to be felt now, and i could only hope that my team had been relatively protected from the proximity to the beast by being inside their pokeballs.

Maxie's gloating started to die with a message from his members outside. Groudon's power was stronger than they had predicted, he couldn't understand where he was getting it all from having just awakened. So i told him straight out that Groudon had been waking up over the last couple of weeks, he had done it by absorbing energy from nature, but the ones who got the worst of it were the pokemon, they were natures children and contained massive untapped energy needed for evolution and the like. Groudon had been draining their Life-force through the seal, and now this it was broken and he was awake, the drain on the world entirely as well as the effects of the harsh sun he was creating would intensify, every pokemon, and probably humans would begin to feel the full effects of LP until Groudon finished his transformation into Primal form, and then the sun would become so strong it will kill the planet.I think i was red in the face when i finally finished my explanation, where as Maxie had gone pale. I would have told him earlier if i knew. and if i had a chance. We all made our way outside as quickly as we could, to see for ourselves the full extent of Groudon's wroth.

Archie turned to me, hands clasping my shoulders and told me we were going to go to Sootopolis ASAP. That Groudon would be going to the cave of origins that lay there. Rumor had it, inside was a pool of massive energy that he would need to for a complete primal reversion. Guess absorbing from nature just wasn't enough for the greedy god. After both teams had left en route to Sootopolis Steven flew in....i had forgotten with all that had been going on, that he was supposed to meet me here to prevent all this. I couldn't be mad though, as he apologized straight away and took stock of the situation. Apparently the heat wave starting the drought was mainly hanging over Sootopolis city for now, so until primal reversion it was still localized around Groudon himself. Further proof that the beast was heading to the cave of origins. I was glad i had visited Sootopolis previously, as Latios knew the way there. As much as i hated flying, this was an emergency.

---Sootopolis: Preventing the end of the world---
Spoiler:
Steven was waiting for me when i arrived at Sootopolis, with his friend Wallace, who also turned out to be the towns gym leader and the guardian of the cave of origins. We wasted no time with idle chit chat however, and went straight down to business as Wallace lead me to the building that housed immense power. On the way however he paused and stared hard at me. His scrutiny was a little uncomfortable but i tried not to let it show, eventually he remarked about the blue orb i had in my possession and seemed pleased that it was here. Before we got further with the discussion however, we had reached the bridge leading to the cave of origins. The building itself seemed to be ancient and chiselled into the rock face behind it. Faded images of Groudon and another beast carved into its doors. More importantly both Team Magma's Maxie, and Team Aqua's Archie along with Tabitha were there. The group turned to us and with their sincerest apologies, and hopes gave me a bulky, heavy suit. It had apparently been designed with getting close and personal with Groudon in mind and would surely come in handy down at the worlds Core---wait what!? I was going to be following the beast down to THE CORE OF THE WORLD. Before i could protest however, Archie expressed worry that the suit might now hold up against the magma below now that nature was more ferocious than ever...just great. Before i could back out however, Wallace stepped in, apparently the blue orb in my possession would protect both myself and my pokemon. Well..i suppose that wasn't so bad then. A few more discussions happened and at some point Brendan showed up after seeing me on the news or something, but i was kind of in a daze and trying to mentally steel myself for the trial to come; while his support was appreciated much of the discussion passed me by in a blur.

Folding the bulky Magma suit up the best i could and strapping it on my back, i stared up at the doors leading to the Cave of origin as the slowly opened before me. Taking a deep breath i forced myself not to glance back at the six people behind me. Their hopes now lay on the shoulders of myself and my team. The fate of the world was now in our hands. It was...nerve-wracking and terrifying, it was all i could do to stop myself from shaking. I thought of Ace, Fang and all the others as i built up my resolve. I stepped inside the cave, and the doors swung shut behind me. Briefly i took out the small, inconspicuous blue orb that would apparently be the key to my survival down here. Something so small could hold so much power? I could only put my faith in it.

I began to run, as bad as my stamina was, i wanted to get this done with as fast as i could, there probably wasn't a huge amount of time to waste, and as i got deeper and deeper down into the cave, the earth would occasionally rumble and shake, accompanied by a deafening roar that could only belong to the pokemon i was hunting. It got louder the deeper i went, until eventually the heat became so strong that it was creating a thick condensed fog. I was forced to briefly my breath, mouth dry, panting hard and sweat uncomfortably sticking to my brow. How much further was there to go? I didn't think i could take much more of this heat, wasn't the blue orb meant to protect me? Mentally slapping myself i forced myself, but at a jog now rather than a sprint, my lungs just physically couldn't do much more; the heat combined with my poor exercise discipline made it near impossible to breathe. Just when i thought i might collapse the tunnel i was traveling down opened p before me...into a huge expanse of magma. My heart sank for a moment before i remembered the bulky suit on my back and got to work putting it on. Once that was fitted, i noticed a curios circular indent on the front of the suit and felt compelled to slot my blue orb inside. Instantly i felt a rush of cool air surround me and sighed in relief. Glancing down at myself, i now seemed to be covered in a thin veil of blue, it flowed around my suit and pokeballs like a misty cloak and i realized this must have been what Wallace meant when he said the orb would protect us. Feeling braver now i took a step towards the magma. Was i going to have to walk through it? would the suit really hold up against that?

I didn't have long to feel nervous as another roar shook the ground, causing me to stumble slightly, before Groudon himself burst up from inside the Magma, seemingly intent on traveling down the canal. At that moment Maxie's voice was in my ear, stating that sensors had picked up Groudon near the suit. I replied with a rather sarcastic statement that yes i happened to be looking at the beast, but thank you, i never would have noticed him otherwise. He ignored my comment and instructed me to jump on its back before the communication line turned to static and cut off. I balked at the idea, he was pretty far away...would i make it? No, i had to be brave, i had to try. If i got a ride i would reach the core with him. Perhaps i could use the orb there to tame the beast and send it to sleep, counteract the immense power there somehow, anything. Taking one last deep breath i ran towards Groudon....

...and barely managed to jump onto his back before he began his finally journey to the core. My heart was in my mouth as i scrabbled up his back both to get as far away from the magma at his feet as possible, and also to see over his head as to where we were going. Either he didn't notice me here, or didn't care, as the giant pokemon just kept on walking until we arrived at a large open cave covered in crystals. The place literally sparked with energy, and i hopped off of Groudon's back at the only piece of land he passed by. He stopped shortly after, glancing up at the giant crystal above him before settling under it. I could literally see the power he was absorbing now, it surrounded him in a flurry of wind, seeming to originate from the crystal he had gotten comfortable under. The energy made me feel like i couldn't breathe and my suit quickly began to spark and smoke. Hurriedly i removed it from my body and tossed it aside, though not before i reclaimed the orb from it. Thankfully its protection still seemed to be in effect, i was still surrounded in its gentle glow, so i pocketed the item for now. It was now or never. I stepped up to Groudon, as close to the edge of the magma lake as i could bear. Eventually the ancient pokemon noticed me, glaring down at me like i was a bad smell. I withdrew a pokeball from my belt and announced i was challenging him to a battle...worth a shot, i didn't want to just be ignored anyhow. Groudon stared at me a moment longer before making a sound that resembled a laugh, as if it was mocking me, before beginning to emit a blinding pink light.

Oh no...he couldnt be...he was! Groudon emerged from the light aglow with magma and pulsing with energy, he had achieved primal reversion! Wanting to test his new power he swung at me, i scrambled backwards and sent Prince out of his pokeball, the heat was overwhelming, the magma lake bubbled more viciously than before as if reacting to Groudon's new power, i could only imagine what the heatwave outside was doing...If Groudon ever set foot outside of this cave that was it. Game over. No matter what happened, we HAD to stop him here. There was no option for failure. Do or die.

To my dismay, Prince was unable to harm Groudon, his water moves evaporating as soon as he summoned them. If the heat down here, in this tiny room was this bad already, what would happen outside!? I was glad for the orbs protection now, its steady glow enveloping both myself and my team. Still, if water was out, i would need to think of something else and fast to eliminate this threat. Recalling Prince, i sent out my trump card, my longest surviving friend now and the one most eager to see Groudon put back to sleep for the sake of his 5 original companions. I sent Baxter into battle. Thankfully his typing allowed him to dodge a variety of Groudon's powerful earth type moves. some of which i had never seen the likes of before. Their sheer power terrified me. Thankfully Baxter had the power from our journey and sheer determination backing him up and his moves were soon hammering into the giant. Though to our dismay, Groudon slipped into a deep 'rest' and we watched as his wounds began to heal. i Gave Baxter one simple command after that. 'Again!' The brave bird nodded back at me with determination oozing out of him. He wouldn't rest until groudon was put back to sleep, and he had permission to act as he saw fit. As the battle raged, i fumbled with the blue orb in my hands, somehow this thing had the power to reverse all this, to put Groudon back to sleep...how did it work...

A roar took my attention back to the battle. Baxter had swooped, dived and dodged his way to victory. Like shattered glass, Groudon lost his primal form in an explosion of energy. In my hand the orb began to shine brightly and instinctively i held it up above my head. Groudon lowered his respectively, quietly looking over Baxter and myself before closing his eyes in resignation as his body began to once again turn into stone. The great beast was going back into its deep slumber. When the blue orb finally stopped its shining the earth began to shake violently once more. I spotted a cave on my left and after returning Baxter to his ball made a run for it, fearing a cave in. It felt like an eternity to return to the surface, but when i finally did, feeling bruised, battered and worn out, the cool breeze on the night air was a welcome relief. Steven and Brendan were waiting for me, smiles on their faces. Guess i had done it, i had actually stopped Groudon and hopefully the world's balance would return to normal, LP would leave and the Pokemon of the world would no longer suffer its horrid effects. I may have been too late for some, but many others could begin the process of healing. Perhaps one day Ace could rejoin me on my travels. I stared up at the sky smiling to myself as the clear night sky rained down on us with glittering diamond sparkles. I couldn't even begin to fathom what they were, but it was heartwarming to see and frankly i was too tired to feel scientific over it. I felt myself drifting off, despite being on my feet, and soon found myself leaning against Steven as my eyes closed themselves against my will. Sounds became distant as i was dragged off into exhaustion.

This looks fun, I'm going to start this challenge later today on Fire Red. Expect an update once I beat Brock.

The Undisputed Era March 7th, 2017 12:07 PM

Just a quick question: Are you required to catch a new pokemon on every route and then start replacing pokemon? I'm either confused or I feel you could just get a team of 6 and after every Gym just catch a new pokemon after removing one.

From reading other peoples updates it seems like the second one is the forced one, however you can add optional rules to make it harder if you like.

I'm mostly a lurker on here, but this challenge is such a cool idea I had to jump in! I tend to get too bogged down in grinding and long-term strategy, which means I eventually get bored and give up halfway through (I think I've finished like, maybe two runs) so this challenge is perfect for me!

I've started a FireRed run and added a rule for myself that I have to capture every new pokemon I encounter. So far it's awesome - I'm only at Nugget bridge and I've already used a way bigger variety of pokemon than other challenges normally allow (even if some of them only lasted for a battle or two) and I'm moving way faster than usual because the possibility that my team may change at any time is forcing me to focus on short-term strategy rather than investing too much time into planning and grinding.

I've been trying to figure out a good challenge to use on first-time runs, and this one is exactly what I'm looking for - I get to "sample" a big variety of pokemon without having to actually make decisions about which pokemon to use (once again, waaay too much time spent on research and planning, not enough time spent actually playing) and there's risk involved because I could lose a valuable team member at any time, but there's very little chance of actually losing and having to start over.

Anyway, having lots of fun with this challenge! I probably won't be posting regular updates because I don't like having to pause my game continually to record my progress, but I'll at the very least be back with my final team when I beat the E4!

Can you remove my moon run? and swap it for Black instead

Orange Pylon July 9th, 2017 11:22 PM

I like this idea. Can anyone who's done it already attest if it's possible to Nuzlocke as well? Like, do these added retirements really make it too hard on top of the deaths?

Hey, I feel you could NuzLuckLocke, however, the grinding you can do to avoid deaths in a Nuzlocke is more of a waste here, cause you could lose a Pokemon anyway. In addition, you only ever have a max of 6 Pokemon, so it would be harder

It really depends on what your definition of too hard is I suppose.

I'm sure it's possible, but if you tried to strictly follow all the rules of both challenges it would likely be extremely tedious, as you can never build up a backup of boxed pokemon, so have to be even more careful about over-leveling your pokemon before every battle. I'd never do it because that level of tedious grinding just isn't fun for me (nor is the high chance of getting halfway through the game and then losing because I got impatient and my team got wiped out), but someone else might enjoy the challenge.

If I was going to combine the two challenges, I'd probably drop the rule from the Nuzlocke challenge that you can only catch the first pokemon you encounter on a route (maybe still have a limit, like you can only attempt to catch the first 2 - 3 pokemon per route, so you can build your team back up if you've lost several pokemon) as well as dropping the rule from the Luck-Locke challenge that you have to box/release a pokemon after each gym battle (or count a pokemon "dying" during the gym battle as your post-gym release - so if all your pokemon survived, you release one, but if at least one of them didn't, you don't have to release any "living" pokemon)

Inkblots August 13th, 2017 5:41 AM

Finally completed the challenge! On FireRed, my final team ended up being:

http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/poliwhirl.gif http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/tangela.gif http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/zapdos.gifhttp://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/raticate.gifhttp://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/vulpix.gifhttp://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/ditto.gif

And of note: I caught my first legit shiny! A caterpie, just before heading out to victory road. Sadly, didn't take long after evolving into a Butterfree before she was replaced.

Lots of fun, I haven't used a legendary before, or ditto, so that was interesting.

I think I'm going to complete the post game content, finish the pokedex, and then see what team I end up with and try to beat the E4 again!

This challenge sounds like fun, I'm going to sign up :)
Name: SubVirus
Game: Alpha Sapphire

Edit1 the journey begins. Couldn't pick my starter so I rolled for it. 1,2 treekco, 3,4 torchic, 5,6 mudkip, rolled a 3.
Onwards BurntChicken the male Lv5
Edit2 caught a Stewart the female Lv5Poochyena because I always name tutorial Pokemon stewart). It knows ice fang so it's a keeper. I'm boxing Pickup the zigzagoon though... no pickup=not keeping. Caught Pickup2 female Lv2 zigzagoon with pickup shortly after.
Caught RickyBobbyJR the male Lv3 wurmple (because who wouldn't)
Caught GreenZorro the male Lv5 Lotad
Caught Skipper the female Lv5 Surskit. Never used this pokemon, we'll see how it goes :)
RickyBobbyJR evolved into a Cascoon after defeating the trainer with Tailow (shake and bake); Cascoon is the preferred of the 2 random evolutions from wurmple.
RickyBobbyJR evolved into a Dustox.
Got the Stone badge. GreenZorro absorbed and bubbled his way to victory. I happened to find someone who recreated the scene with BurntChicken for me here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPWMPyyveSU
I always order my pokemon by lowest level goes out first and sorted by level then hp.
So the numbers i'm rolling on are 1 Skipper (10), 2 Pickup2 (10), 3 RickyBobbyJR (10), 4 Stewart (11), 5 BurntChicken (11), and 6 GreenZorro (12)
Rolled a 6... Rip GreenZorro
Out of my 5 boxed pokemon I'll be replacing GreenZorro with Twirly a male Lv3 Ralts (only knows growl *sigh*)

Disturb Not The Harmony - Blue

Okay, let me give this a try. Just finished a Nuzlocke, so it will be kind of fun to let Pokemon get KOed all over the place. As a mild handicap, I'll limit myself to one Pokemon from each area. All rolls will be done with Random.org.

Spoiler:

Took IronTurt the Squirtle.
Caught MadGopher the NidoranM on Route 22.
Lingered in Viridian Forest to get SlimeBorg the Pikachu. A bit of a stretch, but Dragon Warrior lacks cutesy electric mice.
IronTurt solos Brock.

Roster: IronTurt |MadGopher | SlimeBorg (Roll 1d3: 2)
Okay, bye-bye, MadGopher the L9 NidoranM!

Snag Watabou the Clefairy in Mt. Moon and BullBird the Spearow on Route 4.

Accidentally lost to Cerulean Rival due to several unlucky crits from him and accidentally throwing a PokeBall at him rather than using a Potion. Oops. Well, quickly corrected.

I then collect, above Cerulean, Rosevine the Bellsprout and Metaly the Abra... ahem. Metaly the Abra... Metaly the Abra...... Metaly the Abra...... METALY THE ABRA...

Ahem! That catch went just fine and I don't know why anyone's staring at me funny. Next. In other news, grinding went great!

A combination of SlimeBorg and Rosevine takes down Misty.

Roster: SlimeBorg | Watabou | IronTurt | Metaly | Rosevine | BullBird
(Roll 1d6: 2... again? Huh.)
Okay, bye-bye, Watabou the L14 Clefairy!

Metaly evolves on the way to Vermillion. I grab MudDoll the Diglett, then go through the ritual motions up to Lt. Surge.

Roster: MudDoll | Metaly | SlimeBorg | BullBird | IronTurt | Rosevine
(Roll 1d6: 1)
Jeez. Okay, bye-bye, MudDoll the L24 Diglett! You served me very well during your short stay on the team.

I was terrified I'd lose my Cut user, so this could be worse. I throw Almiraj the Drowzee on my team to compensate. BullBird evolves on the way to Rock Tunnel. The Tunnel itself is uneventful, largely being rushed by IronTurt. I go immediately to Erika because I want to find out what I'm losing before I spend any of the Rocket Hideout or Pokemon Tower EXP dumps.

Roster: BullBird | SlimeBorg | Metaly | Almiraj | Rosevine | IronTurt
(Roll 1d6: 1? Seriously? Confound it.)
Goodbye, BullBird the L25 Fearow. I was HOPING you would stay for Fly purposes, but I suppose we all must part ways. You served me very well indeed.

I fill its slot with MadCat the Eevee. Along the way, Almiraj learns Confusion and actually becomes viable.

Pokemon Tower goes well, so it's now time to grab Snorlax and roll for whomever I kick off the team. Perhaps I should have skipped MadCat... eh, I have two Psychics on the team, I'm set for life.

Roster: Almiraj | Rosevine | Metaly | SlimeBorg | IronTurt | MadCat
(Roll 1d6: 6)
Huh, so much for Eevee. I wasn't expecting that, but okay. That works.

Much as I love Pikachu, it's becoming nonviable, stat-wise, and pre-Yellow Pikachu has a horrible natural movepool. So it gets a Thunderstone, and away it goes.

Hilariously underleveled (all Pokemon < L30), I hobble through the Fuchsia Gym using status, which is painfully pleasant to use after a Nuzlocke which forbid status moves. And then I swept Koga with Metaly, who is a L31 Kadabra, until he courteously blew up his own Weezing.

Roster: Metaly | Almiraj | Rosevine | SlimeBorg | IronTurt | Mudou
(Roll 1d6: 4)
WELL I'M GLAD I GOT SOME USE OUT OF SLIMEBORG THEN. Farewell, SlimeBorg; I was just really beginning to enjoy using a Pikachu in a run. :(

Sadly, SlimeBorg was the most replaceable, since any Electric-type can be mimicked by a Pokemon with Thunderbolt. Still... ouch. I catch DarkHorn the Nidorina from Safari Zone to compensate. At L33, she is actually the strongest Pokemon on my team.

Seriously, I forgot how badly leveling went on a 6-Pokemon team. Might have to start running the No EXP circuit for high-level mons.

I then proceeded to solo Blaine with Wartortle (it evolved after the battle) and then, because he felt this was too dignified for him, he KOed it so he could gracefully have his L47 Arcanine KOed by a L28 Hypno. Blaine continues to be the single most pathetic Gym Leader in Gen 1, and that includes Brock. At least Brock is excruciatingly painful for No EXP and/or Normal Monotype runs.

Roster: IronTurt | Rosevine | Metaly | Almiraj | Mudou | DarkHorn
(Roll 1d6: 2)
Really? Farewell, Rosevine. You were a fair Weepinbell, and it was fun having you on the team. If only you learned Razor Leaf earlier, you could have been truly formidable.

...I now have no Cut user. However, it CAN be learned by -

Wait, how does TENTACRUEL use Cut? I really don't want to know. Nonetheless... I can work with this...

*several Max Repels later* Okay, I now have KingSquid the L41 Tentacruel, courtesy of Rare Candy. That works. It's E4 viable, as I know from long experience. It is also DEFINITELY the highest-level Pokemon on my team, by about eight levels.

Huh, I wonder if it would make things more interesting to consider Giovanni a force-swap point. Nah. At any rate, as you might imagine, Silph Co. was nothing to write home about. Double Psychics, woo.

Almiraj sweeps Sabrina.
Roster: Almiraj | Metaly | IronTurt | Mudou | DarkHorn | KingSquid
(Roll 1d6: 3)
...
Farewell, buddy. You were the best Blastoise anyone could wish for. Well - I've had more amazing ones, but that had to do with TMs.
Enjoy your retirement, buddy. IronTurt the L38 Blastoise departs the team.

Out of sheer frustration, I finally get WhipBird the Aerodactyl and enjoy my all-expense-paid flight. KingSquid and Metaly then demolish the Viridian Gym.

Roster: KingSquid | Metaly | Mudou | Almiraj | DarkHorn | WhipBird
(Roll 1d6: 1)
...I swear Random.org is actually biased toward 1.
Farewell, KingSquid the L43 Tentacruel. You were very good, as usual, and now I need to go grab a spare Water-type.

Because "balanced typing" is for games that have weird ideas like "legitimate Psychic weaknesses", we round off the cast with Mirudraas the L38 Slowbro. Yes, those are available in the wild in Seafoam Island. It takes a lot of Max Repels, though.

Me, after having half my team wiped by Alakazam: Oh, wait, I have that one Pokemon who's the Gen 1 hard counter to Alakazam in my team, right?
*one Hypno later*
Yeah, so the game's pretty simple from here on out, aside from my awful level deficits. (What's L40? Is that what grinders see?) Specifically, 38/39/39/33/30/35. Oh well - half of them are Psychics. It's doable.

Okay, well. Lorelei. Pop quiz! L37 Snorlax or Elite Four member? L37 Snorlax (and two Hyper Potions), of course! Though now Mudou is L38. Gen 1 Amnesia is ridiculous.

Okay, a softball! Bruno or an L39 Kadabra! That's easy, of course. It's now an L41 Kadabra.

Agatha or Hypno? Yeah, Hypno.

L58 Gyarados or L38 Snorlax? Most of Lance's roster or an L39 Slowbro? Yes, you guessed it - my Pokemon. Hail Hyper Potions. All 12 or so of them. It was a long battle, put it that way.

And... ouch, ouch, ouch. I'm really glad this wasn't a Nuzlocke. I ended up having to KO Gyarados with Mirudraas and handle Arcanine and Venusaur with Almiraj. Nonetheless - run complete.

http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/143.PNG
Mudou L39 Snorlax
Surf | Amnesia | Thunderbolt | Strength
permitted me to get past Lance with nonsense strats
http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/80.PNG
Mirudraas L41 Slowbro
Surf | Headbutt | Water Gun | Blizzard
permitted me to get past Lance's actual Dragons; would have been 10x better with Thunder Wave or Amnesia, but I legitimately forgot that part of Gen 1 because I was rushing
http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/97.PNG
Almiraj L43 Hypno
Confusion | Hypnosis | Headbutt | Psychic
I forgot to teach it Dream Eater... which would have helped...
In all seriousness, it carried the team through a good chunk of the game. Hypno is ludicrously good in Gen 1. Underappreciated because it doesn't have the Abra line's speed and raw power, but if it can lock anything into Sleep, its only limitations are its PP. Oh, and it can hit Alakazam on its weak Defense while resisting the Psychics thrown its way. Ridiculously good, always go for it.

http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/31.PNG
DarkHorn L33 Nidoqueen
Bite | Poison Sting | Tail Whip | Surf
If I'd been forced out of Psychics, this would have been good. Stayed neglected instead, though it did provide a sacrificial turn for healing Almiraj in the Champion fight.
http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/142.PNG
WhipBird L30 Aerodactyl
Wing Attack | Agility | Fly
Obvious run MVP, saved my sanity from repeatedly walking back and forth through Diglett's Cave. In seriousness, never saw use, but Fly was more than enough use. Plus, how can you dislike Aerodactyl?
http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/64.PNG
Metaly L42 Kadabra
Psybeam | Teleport | Recover | Psychic
Took 5 times to get one. But it did pay off. Could have carried the team if I'd lost any other good Pokemon, but would have required a bit more leveling.

Retirees:

Let's salute MadGopher, Watabou, MudDoll, BullBird, MadCat, SlimeBorg, Rosevine, IronTurt, and KingSquid for giving up their places on the team for the sake of the run!

SubVirus January 30th, 2018 2:25 AM

Caught WingmanJon the Lvl3 Tailow
Caught Kris the Lvl5 Slakoth
Caught Lvl5 Wingull that I forgot to nickname

Sailed to Dewford town and beat the gym only using Twirly and RickyBobbyJR. (piece of cake)
I always order my pokemon by lowest level goes out first and sorted by level then hp.

Disturb Not The Harmony - Red

Since this is a random challenge, I think I'll do it again, this time with Red. After all, my chances of getting the same Pokemon again are BEYOND low.

This time, I'm using a fake word generator for more interesting names.

Spoiler:

* Got Luezoid the Squirtle and Chesture the NidoranF. Skipped the Pikachu this time because Pikachus take far too long to catch in the Forest.

Luezoid | Chesture (Roll 1d2: 2)
So long, Chesture the L9 NidoranF!

* Got Feandra the Spearow and Boaclick the Clefairy on the way to Cerulean.
* Beat Cerulean Rival with no troubles.
* Yammoe the Oddish and Mofoblitz the Abra get brought in above Cerulean.
* Since I need to have two spaces for my Vermillion catches, I challenge Misty and steamroll her with Yanmoe and Luezoid.

Yanmoe | Boaclick | Luezoid | Mofoblitz | Feandra (Roll 1d5: 1)
Farewell, Yanmoe the L15 Oddish! I was expecting to have you for longer...

* Get Xanpon the Diglett and Singlewave the Drowzee around Vermillion.
* As a side note, part of the reason why I prefer Gen 1 is that the various AI/strategy/overpowered-Pokemon exploits make it easier to run with an underleveled team.
* And now...
...
Uh.
I have no Cut users.
NOW WELCOMING DUX THE FARFETCH'D. Technically, I didn't have a full team
when I got him, so I don't need to give up anyone! :U
* Surge goes down easily to Xanpon.

Xanpon | Luezoid | Mofoblitz | Singlewave | Boaclick | DUX (Roll 1d6: 5)
Boaclick the L16 Clefairy departs the party! Wow, Clefairies and Nidorans have terrible luck in this challenge. Pity, because I actually like those lines.

* Rock Tunnel occurs without incident. Run off to get Roplixoo the Eevee and check out Erika. In other news, Gen 1 Wrap is an abominable move.

Singlewave | Luezoid | DUX | Mofoblitz | Xanpon | Roplixoo (Roll 1d6: 2)
Goodbye, Luezoid the L31 Wartortle.
...oh dear. I was overleveling that.
Why do starters have such bad luck in this run? I guess it's because they're there from ground zero, but still...

On the other hand, I don't really need Water-types until Cinnabar, and Snorlax can sub in until then. That works. I just need to get Snorlax
first.

* Clear Pokemon Tower and get Losenoid the Snorlax.
* Did in Koga. Amusingly, DUX got all the EXP from Weezing because I used it as a kamikaze Sand-Attacker, switched it out when it didn't die, then wound up with Weezing blowing up on Xanpon.

Xanpon | DUX | Singlewave | Mofoblitz | Roplixoo | Losenoid (Roll 1d6: 3)
WOW. Goodbye, Singlewave the L28 Hypno.
...I'm actually really excited about this because Hypno was an endgame Pokemon last time. See - variance!

* Rowlow the Nidorino (*cough* Nidoking *cough*) added in Safari.
* Okay, I have two more forced replacements. Tentacruel and Slowbro are THE best catches available, considering the EXP issues.
* Blaine goes down readily to Dig spam.

Xanpon | Roplixoo | Mofoblitz | DUX | Losenoid | Rowlow (Roll 1d6: 5)
Farewell, Losenoid the L30 Snorlax.

Oof. The loss of Snorlax is not easy.
* Get Sertave the L40 Tentacool via Max Repelling around Cinnabar and immediately toss a Rare Candy its way. If I can keep it, Lance will be trivalized by horrible AI.
* Beat tar out of Giovanni at Silph with a L33 Nidoking. The bosses in Gen 1 are something... special.
* Sabrina was mostly handled by Xanpon.

Rowlow | Roplixoo | Sertave | Xanpon | Mofoblitz | DUX (Roll 1d6: 3)

*sigh* Farewell, Sertave the L41 Tentacruel. I'll use you in some run.
Also, it's direly amusing me that DUX is apparently invincible.
* Meanwhile, the Slowbro I get from Seafoam Islands is randomly given the name of Jeebus. OUR BRO AND SAVIOR
* WHO SOLOED GIOVANNI
* AND PROMPTLY DIED FOR THE SINS OF THE RUN *HEADDESK*
(Jeebus | Rowlow | Xanpon | Mofoblitz | DUX | Roplixoo - rolled 1)

...that is not good in an way at all. I at least still have Mofoblitz and Xanpon, who can largely carry, but dang. There went both my high-level catches.
On the bright side, I can start dumping TMs on Pokemon now that I know they won't get kicked the second I clear a Gym.
And I have an actual Flyer, which helps.

* Noodile the Haunter obtained from Pokemon Tower. It ends up defeating Route 22 Rival's Venusaur without grinding, because... Gen 1.
* Moment of truth: the loadouts.

Rowlow the Nidoking receives Ice Beam and Earthquake in addition to Surf and Strength.
Roplixoo the Jolteon gets Thunderbolt.
Noodile the Haunter obtains Mega Drain.

We start with L38 Jolteon | L40 Kadabra | L40 Dugtrio | L38 Nidoking | L30 DUX | L28 Haunter.
Let's see if this is doable.

Elite Four
* Lorelei goes down fairly quickly to Thunderbolt spam. One Hyper Potion used.
* Bruno doesn't even do damage.
* Agatha is actually tricky, but - oh, *I* know what happened with Golbat refusing to kill Dugtrio. Haze is Ice-type! That's an AI exploit! Yeah, I exploited that playing a ROMhack once. Anyway, she took one Hyper and several Flute plays.
* Lance went out of control on Aerodactyl, swept my team up to Haunter, and...

...oh my gosh.
I just learned something.
I FALSELY thought Lance had Rock Slide and/or Wing Attack on Aerodactyl. NO. It turns out he doesn't get coverage until YELLOW.
Wow. I just took out Aerodactyl with a L28 Haunter.
BEST LAST-MINUTE TEAM MEMBER EVER

5 Revives, 5 Hyper Potions used.

* Rival:
** Pidgeot, as usual, is a failure.
** Locked down Alakazam by sacrificing Roplixoo and DUX, and beat it unconscious with Nidoking.
** Rhydon is also a failure.
** Gyarados was a brief Revive circus (x2) to get back to Roplixoo.
** Arcanine took two Hypers for Rowlow, but otherwise uneventful.
** Venusaur went down in two Psychics.

9 Hypers, 7 Revives. Forgot I had Rare Candies, but they weren't necessary.

http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/135.PNG
Roplixoo the L41 Jolteon
Thunderbolt | Sand-Attack | Thundershock | Sand-Attack
handled Lorelei, trivalized Gyaradoses
http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/64.PNG
Mofoblitz the L42 Kadabra
Psybeam | Teleport | Psychic | Recover
incredibly, goofily overpowered
http://pkmn.net/sprites/rb/34.PNG
Rowlow the L40 Nidoking
Surf | Ice Beam | Earthquake | Strength
A fantastic bro who came in strong despite coming in late

Xanpon the L42 Dugtrio
Dig | Rock Slide | Slash | Sand-Attack
Basically carried through a good portion of the game. Dugtrio is just silly in Gen 1.

DUX the L30 DUX
Fly | Swords Dance | Sand-Attack | Cut
Tragically was rather useful. DUX is not great, but having a Flyer all run did more for my sanity than can be imagined.

Noodile the L29 Haunter
Confuse Ray | Hypnosis | Night Shade | Mega Drain
Saved the team from a wipe. Haunter is ridiculously good in Gen 1. In all gens, really, but the nonexistence of the Dark type does a lot to make Haunter invincible in situations where it really shouldn't be.

Let's salute Chesture, Yanmoe, Boaclick, Luezoid, Singlewave, Losenoid, Sertave, and Jeebus for giving up their places on the team for the sake of the run!
