When I started researching SSDs last year to put into my laptop, that was when I discovered the difference between a traditional SSD and the M.2 SSD. The M.2-style SSD certainly bears a resemblance to a stick of RAM. However, it's more like what a flash drive would be, which is also flash memory.
For those prices and sizes, this is definitely revolutionary not only in the shrinking of technology, but also making SSDs more standard and more affordable all without having to sacrifice overall storage size. |
And to think these prices basically will come down over time after they're on the market...
Man, maybe my next SSD won't be a SATA drive. Personally never found the potential performance increase (which is rather lacklustre if you're not copying things) to be worth it with prices PCIe M.2 SSDs were commanding, but now? Yeah, they're basically steals. |
