The Monotype Challenge

The Monotype Challenge

The Challenge:
The Monotype Challenge is a challenge where you use only Pokemon of a single type throughout your game.

Rules:
1. Your final team must consist of at least 2 Elite Four-viable Pokémon who share the type you specified in your sign up. No Pokémon may be used in Trainer Battles outside of that specified type. Monotypes may not be stacked into a single run. (ie, using Vileplume and Victreebel and calling it both Poison and Grass monotypes)

2. A Pokémon of your type must be obtained before you earn your second badge or before Lana's Trial (S/M). If this is impossible in your game, you may hack or trade a single Non-Legendary Pokémon of your type within your region's Pokédex. See below for a list of qualifying challenges. No hacking is permitted otherwise. Hacking or trading items into your game is never permitted. Before you obtain the first Pokémon of your type, you may only use your starter Pokémon.

3. Pokémon outside your type may be used as long as they evolve into your type by the end of the challenge.

4. All Pokémon on this list plus Mega Latias/os are banned from use in this challenge: Banned Pokémon in Battle Maison
Any other legendaries (i.e. Legendary Birds) are allowed, but only 1.

5. Trading is permitted for evolution, and obtaining version exclusive Pokémon in your region's Pokédex that cannot be obtained otherwise, as long as its level does not exceed the highest level on your team. No HA/Egg Moves/Perfect IVs for this trade in. You may hack Pokemon to evolve if they evolve by trading if you are incapable of doing so. If the Pokemon requires an item, you must wait until you have the item before hacking the evolution. Using a trade evolution patch on a ROM is also acceptable.
Trading to another game and evolving is allowed at level 30 or above, but only for Leafeon/Glaceon in B2W2, and Glaceon/Crabominable in SM.

*Note: Trading in Nectars for Oricorio is allowed, as it's a simple form change that doesn't change base stats, this also allows anyone using a specific Oricorio to be used from the first island.
**Note2: Island Scan Pokemon are allowed as well, because although they are not in the Pokedex, they are obtainable within the limits of the game/challenge.

6. HM Slaves are permitted. They do not need to match your type.

7. Hacked ROMs are permitted. Any hacks are only viable for single challenges.
*This was added 8/4/17, any ultimate challenges that includes hacks started before this will not count against you.

8. Pokéwalker and Pokémon Dream Radar may be used to obtain Pokémon of your type for the challenge, as long as they are imported directly into the game you are playing and not traded in from a separate game.

9. Dark and Steel are exempt from needing Kanto for Ultimate Challenges, since the types were introduced in Generation 2, with only Magnemite being available in FireRed and LeafGreen with one of these types.

10. Affection is not allowed (Sylveon is the only exception, but a max of two for Sylveon, no hearts at all for everything else). Mega Stones are not allowed.
Z-Moves are allowed as of 8/5/17.

11. An Ultimate Challenge is accomplished by reaching the end game of one game from all seven official regions using the same type. They do not need to be completed in chronological order. Fairy type only needs Kalos, Hoenn, and Alola to complete.

12. Should you want to play outside the standard rules, You may opt out of championship by setting your Challenge Mode to Free Mode. Free Mode allows you to play the Monotype challenge how you want to while still being able to post updates.

Old thread champions not being ported? Awww... I still want to see my name next to my favorite type in the Ultimate section...

Anyway, I completed my Electric Sun monotype from the last thread a couple weeks ago but forgot to post about it. Oops.

Aaaand I think the exception pokemon listed at the bottom apply to rule 5, not 6. Necrum had the same mistake.

I will for any that have Sun/Moon completed as well.
But before I update it, I want to get it right. You have completed Ultimate Grass and Electric Single on Sun, correct?
And yeah, I used his thread as a basis and changed some things, so I accidentally missed that, it's been fixed. :)

Necrum February 2nd, 2017 1:22 PM

Will you be letting people port existing progress on Ultimates into this thread? If so, I am carrying over my Bug Monotype Challenge, which is complete in Leaf Green and Heart Gold and currently in progress with Alpha Sapphire.

Bella's Ultimate Fire: Leaf Green

Spoiler:
Introduction
I'm going to be completing an Ultimate Fire challenge and working through the games in Regional order, starting with Kanto. It's been years since I've played the Gen III games so I'm excited to get started.

I will update this post for the entirety of Leaf Green, and use one new post per game.

Update Log

• Picked up Charmander at Professor Oak's lab.
• Won my first battle against my rival.
• Not much to discuss here, made my way through route 2 and Viridian Forest to get to Pewter City.
• Trained Charmander to level 13 in order to learn Metal Claw to be used against Brock.
• Traded across a Growlithe (version exclusive not available in Leaf Green) at level 5.

Pewter City Gym Team

Update Log

• Continued through Route 3 to Mt. Moon.
• Battled through Mt. Moon and picked up the Helix Fossil.
• Made it to Cerulean City, defeated my rival at the bridge.
• Charmander evolved into Charmeleon!
• After receiving the S.S. Anne ticket from Bill, I skipped Misty's gym and continued down to Vermilion City.
• Boarded the S.S. Anne and defeated my Rival again before obtaining cut from the seasick captain.
• Headed back up to Cerulean City to face Misty now that my team has leveled up a bit.

Cerulean City Gym Team

Update Log

• Picked up a bicycle while in Cerulean city.
• Made a bee-line back to Vermilion City to face Lt. Surge now that I can use cut.

Vermilion City Gym Team

Update Log

• Did circles on route 8 trying to find a Vulpix who eluded me for a good 20 minutes! When I did find one he roared me away! :'(
• Caught a Vulpix (finally)!
• Obtained (actually, I pretty much just stole the pokeball off some poor blokes desk) Eevee from Celadon City.
• Evolved Eevee into Flareon with a fire stone.

Celadon City Gym Team

Update Log

• Defeated Giovanni in the Game Corner Hideout.
• Defeated my rival at the Pokemon Tower (again, sucker)!
• Made my way to Fuschia City via Cycling Road.
• Flareon and Vulpix only had Quick Attack as a viable move, so after what felt like forever switching them both in and out of battle they finally reached 30 & 29 respectively and got a decent move to use on their own.
• Charmeleon evolved into Charizard!

Fuschia City Gym Team

Update Log

• Spent some time at the safari zone to obtain HM Strength and Surf.
• Battled through Silph Co and defeated my rival and Giovanni again.
• Challenged the fighting dojo.

Saffron City Gym Team

Update Log

• Surfed to Cinnabar Island from Pallet Town - this was pretty tedious with my fire team..
• Evolved Vulpix into Ninetails with a firestone at level 45 due to no more learned moves available with Vulpix and in order to not miss learning Firespin at 45 with Ninetails.
• Battled through the Pokemon Mansion to find the key to Cinnabar Island's gym.

Cinnabar Island Gym Team

Update Log

• Headed over to One/Two/Three Island with Bill - time to catch me a Moltres!
• Almost all of my pokemon have the Flash Fire ability, so catching Moltres was pretty easy.
• Evolved Growlithe into Arcanine with a Fire Stone at 49 after learning Flamethrower.
• Made my way back to Viridian City to face the final gym leader.

Viridian City Gym Team

Update Log

• POKEMON LEAGUE TIME!!!!!11!1!!1!

Bella's Ultimate Fire: Heart Gold

Spoiler:
Introduction
I've just finished the Kanto region in Leaf Green and am about to start my next chapter in the Johto Region. I will be playing through Johto in Heart Gold and will update this post for the entirety of my Heart Gold adventure!

Update Log

• Picked up Cyndaquil at Professor Elm's lab.
• Defeated rival Silver for the first time.
• Made my way to Violet City.
• Battled through Sprout Tower.
• Cydnaquil tried to evolve - I've decided to prevent evolution for now.

Violet City Gym Team

Update Log

• Continued down to Azalea Town.
• Defeated Team Rocket at Slowpoke Well.

Azalea Town Gym Team

Update Log

• My egg hatched, so ran all the way back to professor Elm.
• Received an Everstone and gave it to Cyndaquil.
• Made my way to Goldenrod City.
• Borrowed a bicycle from the shop owner!
• Battled Whitney at Golden Rod gym. This was really hard as I still only have Cyndaquil and her Miltank always attacks first / twice in a row!

Goldenrod City Gym Team

Update Log

• Used the Squirt Bottle to clear Sudowudo out of the way to Ecruteak City.
• Caught Growlithe on Route 37!
• Caught Magmar in Burned Tower!
• Now begins the swap out grind to level these two dudes up...

Ecruteak City Gym Team

Update Log

• Reached the Miltank farm but realised I didn't plant any berries for the sick Miltank, oops.
• Headed down to Olivine and battled up the lighthouse to reach Jasmine and sick Amphy.
• Surfed across to Cianwood City to fetch the medicine - this sucked with my fire team, ha.

Cianwood City Gym Team

Update Log

• Received HM Fly from the lady outside the gym after defeating Chuck, flew back to Olivine.
• Gave the medicine to Jasmine, prompting her to return to her gym.

Olivine City Gym Team

Update Log

• Continued on to Mahogany Town.
• Battled Red Gyarados at Lake of Rage.
• Defeated Team Rocket at the Souvenir Shop HQ.
• Growlithe and Magmar are still significantly under-leveled. Regular trainers along routes seem to have quite low leveled pokemon in contrast with the Gym trainers/leaders which is quite frustrating.
• Just realised I can get a Slugma egg from Primo in Violet City! Waaah. Picked it up, but not sure I'll use it considering the difficulty I'm having leveling up Growlithe and Magmar..
• Traded a Red Gyarados scale for Exp. Share with Mr. Pokemon. Might keep Slugma after all.
• Zipped around on my bike to hatch Slugma!

Mahogany Town Gym Team

Update Log

• Slugma ended up at level 12 after facing off with Pryce thanks to the Exp. Share. Hah.
• Back to Goldenrod to run Team Rocket out of the radio tower.
• Really struggled against Archer in the Goldenrod Radio Tower - I feel like my pokemon are really under-leveled.
• Traversed Ice Path to Blackthorn City.
• Did the tall grass grind to try and bring my team up to scratch for the final gym.
• Slugma evolved into Magcargo!
• Been strugglings through the trainers in Clair's gym - level 35 Dratini and Seadra's are wiping me out even though my team is sitting at around 40 - I have no idea how I'll manage Clair.

Blackthorn City Gym Team

Update Log

• Defeated the Kimono Girls.
• Defeated my rival in Victory Road.

I want to take my challenge to this topic.
I'm playing Pokémon Fuligin with a Poison type team.

Team:

Well, managed to defeat that unbeatable Swallot with Arbok playing an important role paralyzing it and damaging it a little and Tobey finalizing it with powerful Wing Attacks.

SetheKing February 10th, 2017 10:01 PM

I had made literally no progress on my challenge in the old topic, so just gonna do it fresh while changing it up a little, methinks:

I actually restarted my fighting type run in soul silver as I deleted foresight from my machop and therefore was unable to beat the rival's ghastly legit. (I ended up using a random smoochum I got from poke walker to beat it which was a big no no)

calenlily February 11th, 2017 2:33 AM

Completed my Flying run in Red. I played through the game in four sessions, though I didn't get to writing it up till afterwards, so I'll use those divisions in my summary.

(I signed up on the previous thread, but here's a copy of the sign-up for ease of record-keeping:
User name: calenlily
Game: Red
Type: Flying
Challenge mode: Single)

Session 1:
Spoiler:

-Started new game, named self Calen and rival Gary. Chose Charmander as my starter and named it Char.
-Grinded Char to level 10, beat Gary on route 22, collected 5 free Pokeballs from Oak and set out to catch stuff
-Caught a Spearow on route 22, named it Cpt Jack
-Caught a Caterpie in Viridian Forest, name it Lowfat
-(Start catching and boxing one of every species I come across so I can get items from Oak's assistants later on)
-Get to Pewter, grind like crazy. Train Lowfat to level 15, it evolves to Metapod then to Butterfree then learns confusion. Train Captain Jack to level 15. Train Char to level 16, it evolves to Charmeleon.
-Take on Pewter Gym. Not as hard as I expected. Char's ember two-shots Geodude and three-shots Onix despite being not very effective since their special sucks. 1/8
-Get to Mt. Moon Pokecenter. Buy the Magikarp from the salesman, name it Mage. Grind some more. Get Mage to level 10 and Lowfat and Char to level 20 before daring to venture into Mt. Moon.
-Take Mt. Moon in like five phases because I'm terrified that Lowfat will run out of confusions and I'll die horribly. Was probably overcautious, don't have much trouble.
-Get to Cerulean, time for more grinding! Captain Jack evolves to Fearow. Mage grows to level 15, learns tackle, I head to Nugget Bridge to challenge Gary for the pleasure of letting Mage take down his Abra with tackle (Char and Jack take the rest). Fight rest of the trainers on Nugget Bridge and route 25 to level Mage faster, visit Bill, then grind a bit more.
-Mage finally evolves to Gyarados! I now have all my main team members for the bulk of the game, and the super grindy stage of the game is past.
-Let Mage go on a rampage and destroy everything on route 24 with bite for a while till he reaches level 25 (which is about where the rest of the team is at this point).
-Challenge Cerulean Gym. Mage two-shots both Staryu and Starmie with bite while they do negligible damage with tackle. (Probably the easiest time I've ever had with this gym, and I usually pack a Pikachu.) 2/8
-Teach Mage bubblebeam and Char dig. Head south to Vermillion. Between Lowfat's confusion and Mage's bite and bubblebeam, the SS Anne is a breeze, and Gary doesn't give me much trouble either. Get body slam TM and teach it to Mage. Get cut HM, trade for Dux the Farfetch'd, teach it cut.
-Challenge Vermillion Gym, Char's dig OHKOs everything. I was way more afraid of this one than I needed to be. 3/8
-Head through Diglett's Tunnel, let Lowfat and Captain Jack snipe Digletts until they learn psybeam and drill peck respectively. Get flash HM and collect items in the western region, return to Cerulean and get bike, grab a Clefairy from my box (and evolve it to Clefable for the Pokedex entry since I have moonstones) and teach it Flash.
-Get teleport TM and teach it to Lowfat. Head to Rock Tunnel. Mage easily takes down nearly everything, and Char gets to help out with a few trainers' grass and normal types.
-Reach Lavender Town. Am amused to find I have exactly $66666 when I stop in at the Mart. Go challenge Gary at Pokemon Tower for easy exp, then head on to Celadon.
-Get ice beam TM and teach it to Mage.
-Celadon Gym, this should be easy. Let Lowfat and Captain Jack split the trainers between them since they need the experience the most. 4/8
-Take down the Rocket Hideout with primarily Lowfat and Char, along the way Char evolves into Charizard, yay all my team have gained their flying type. Mage takes Giovanni's team. Silph Scope acquired.

Session 2:
Spoiler:

-Return to Lavender, time for some ghostbusting. Lowfat takes pretty much everything and Mage deals with the Marowak. Acquire Pokeflute.
-Head to Saffron, Captain Jack takes down the fighting dojo, I acquire Psychic TM and teach it to Lowfat, then it's time for Silph Co. Lowfat takes the poison types, Char takes the electric types, and Mage takes everything else. Find earthquake TM and teach Char. Get to the battle with Gary, and I discover that between bubblebeam, ice beam, and body slam, Mage can solo his whole team (and one or two-shot all but Blastoise). Heal up, then Mage sweeps Giovanni's team too.

Session 3:
Spoiler:

-Stop in and get fly HM. Teach Captain Jack to fly. Take bike path south to Fuschia (Lowfat psybeams bikers, Mage ice beams bird keepers). Stop by the Safari Zone and get surf HM and gold teeth, teach Mage to surf. Return gold teeth to Warden, get strength HM, teach Clefable strength.
-Challenge Fuschia Gym, Mage and Char take on the gym trainers, Lowfat psychics Koga's team. ("Winning takes strategy, you can't just use brute force", a juggler tells me, right before I take down his Hypno with the brute force of Mage's body slam.) 5/8
-Realize I completely forgot to challenge the gym while I was in Saffron City, so I fly back and do that. Lowfat takes out the gym channelers' ghosts and Char takes out all the psychic types, one-shotting most and two-shotting the rest. 6/8
-With my team in the low to mid 40s, fly back to Cerulean and surf to the Power Plant. Time for an exercise in trying not to die! Mage digs and earthquakes through the random encounters and we manage to get to Zapdos unscathed. Trying not to die part two! Lowfat uses sleep powder, Zapdos falls asleep, Zapdos immediately wakes up, Lowfat uses sleep powder again, misses, somehow survives a thundershock, uses sleep powder a third time and doesn't miss. Mage switches in, takes its health down to a fraction with an ice beam or two, I chuck Ultra Balls and manage to catch it before it wakes. (Belatedly remember that I was planning to use my Master Ball here since it's the only legendary I care about catching in this run. Oh well.) Name it Zappybird, teach it thunderbolt and flash. Teach Mage strength, then permanently box Clefable; no more off-type HM slaves.
-Zappybird tears through the marathon of water and flying types that is routes 12-15. Char helps out where convenient, and finally learns flamethrower. Upon arriving back in Fuschia, we surf south and Zappybird takes on all the trainers on the water routes up to the west entrance to Seafoam Islands. Then we fly to Pallet Town and do the same up to the east entrance before stopping by Cinnabar Island for real.
-Mage gets us safely through Pokemon Mansion to retrieve the Secret Key. Char and Lowfat get in some training there too.
-Mage bubblebeams and surfs through Cinnabar Gym, OHKOing everyone. 7/8
-Surf to Seafoam, Zappybird takes down everything. Fly to Viridian.

Session 4:
Spoiler:

-Challenge Viridian Gym, Lowfat and Mage split the gym trainers, then Mage sweeps Giovanni's team. All but Nidoqueen are OHKOd by bubblebeam, I don't even need to use surf. 8/8
-Set out on route 22, meet Gary again, Mage solos his team again because I can, this time all but Blastoise are OHKOs. (Blastoise takes three strengths, and he uses skull bash so he doesn't even do me any damage on one of those turns.)
-Mage takes all the wild encounters on Victory Road while Zappybird, Char, and Lowfat split the trainer battles. Arrive at Indigo Plateau, heal up from the journey, and head on to challenge the Elite Four.
-Lorelei is easy. Zappybird's thunderbolt one-shots all her water/ice types and Slowbro. Char's flamethrower two-shots Jynx.
-Bruno is easy too. Mage's surf takes his rock/ground types and Lowfat's psychic fells the fighters. All OHKOs.
-Agatha is harder. Gengar takes two psychics to fell, and gets a confuse ray in on Lowfat in between. I switch Lowfat out afterwards to dispel the confusion, and let Mage ice beam Golbat. Lowfat takes Haunter with another two psychics, Char takes Arbok with two earthquakes (and gets paralyzed in between), then when she brings out her second Gengar I accidentally bring out Mage instead of Lowfat. It takes two ice beams and a surf (and Mage has to deal with confusion and tank a few night shades in the meantime), but Gengar goes down. I heal Mage and Lowfat with potions and Char with a full heal before continuing to the next room.
-Lance is easy, Gyarados goes down to Zappybird's thunderbolt, Aerodactyl to Mage's surf, and both Dragonairs and Dragonite to Mage's ice beam, all OHKOs.
-Gary's Pidgeot gets OHKOd by Zappybird's thunderbolt, Alakazam falls to two Slashes from Char, Rhydon and Arcanine both one-shot by Mage's surf, Exeggutor two-shot by Char's flamethrower, and Blastoise OHKOd by Zappybird's thunderbolt. I become the Kanto Champion, on my first try, with minimal use of healing items and only between members.

Hall of Fame:
Spoiler:
Zappybird the Zapdos, level 61
Thundershock, drill peck, flash, thunderbolt

Lowfat the Butterfree, level 59
Teleport, sleep powder, psychic, psybeam

Char the Charizard, level 56
Earthquake, dig, flamethrower, slash

Mage the Gyarados, level 58
Bubblebeam, strength, ice beam, surf

Cpt Jack the Fearow, level 41
Peck, drill peck, fly, swift

Dux the Farfetch'd, level 16 (cut slave)

Final thoughts:
Spoiler:
-Was feeling pretty uninspired while naming these guys so went for a few cheap jokes. I have no regrets.
-Was reminded of all the things I love and hate about first gen game mechanics. Had fun this time, probably not going to play one of the originals again for a while though.
-Gyarados is a beast in first gen and I love it so much. (It's a pity that the special split nerfed it so hard.) Mage was probably MVP of this game, though my team was balanced enough and supported each other so well that that's a hard call to make.
-I was impressed by how versatile Charizard was. His ability to learn strong ground attacks was crucial to covering the team's weakness to electricity (and having a second team member strong against poison was no bad thing either).
-I'd kind of planned Mage to be my anti-psychic weapon, given its amazing physical attack stat. But I realized sometime around Koga's gym that Char was actually better, given its better speed, still very respectable attack, and access to slash's near guaranteed crit.
-Lowfat amazed me with how competent it was as a pseudo-psychic. By the Elite Four it certainly showed that its stats weren't as good as the others, but it did just fine despite that. For a mon I'd previously dismissed as not worth it past the early game, it really surprised and impressed me with how good a special attacker it was and how well it kept up with the rest.
-I don't generally like to use legendaries, but Zappybird was pretty awesome to have on my team.
-Training Captain Jack was probably a mistake. It didn't have any strengths that the others didn't duplicate (Char was at least as good against grass and bugs, Lowfat was better against fighting types, and even its immunity to ghost-type attacks wasn't as useful as Lowfat's possession of attacks super-effective against Kanto's ghosts), I had to keep grinding it throughout the game more than anyone else, and probably ended up taking exp someone else could have used more than really contributing to the team's viability. Once I got Zappybird, who also had its one really good move of drill peck, poor Jack kind of ended up being just a fly slave, which Dux could have done just as well.
-On whole, these guys were a great team and I loved them all.

Met Steven and went to the Slateport City beach where I defeated the trainers, I'm now clearing the Sodapop house.

Just saying, Kanto and Red are optional in the Johto games, so your Crystal Run can count as complete if you don't want to do the Kanto part. :)

Well in that case, consider my Crystal entry in the water monotype complete then.

Quick question about items in the game, could I import the secret key so I could grab rotom wash form? I still have my platinum physical copy with my key in it so it is in the game, just 7-8 years ago.

Since it's an event item, I'll have to say no.
It would be a different answer if it was obtainable in-game, but since you can't get it while playing the game, then I can't allow it.

Also, fyi, assuming this question is for your Water Monotype, all Rotom formes are Electric/Ghost in gen 4, and didn't get separate typings until gen 5, so you wouldn't be able to use it anyways. :p

Pokemon Y - Fighting Monotype Update #1:
Badges: 4/8

Currently in the Power Plant. I currently cannot check my levels/moves as I don't have my 3DS with me, but here's my team so far.

---------------------------------------------
I also added a note regarding Oricorio forms, allowing Nectars being traded in to use any form from the first island.
They don't change base stats, and the only thing that changes is the type and the move Revelation Dance, so I felt it would be acceptable to allow this.

Veggieburrito February 23rd, 2017 7:40 PM

Emerald Bug Monotype Update 2:
  • Completely skipped Brawly for the time being
  • Delivered the letter to Steven Stone after wandering in a cave for a while
  • Made it to Slateport
  • Stopped Team Aqua from learning
  • KALA reached Level 20 and evolved, gained a new party member in the form of MALTA the Shedinja
  • Beat May again, KALA tore down Wingull and Grovyle pretty easily

Made some pretty good progress. Current plan: Catch an Illumise, use MALTA against Wattson for all but his Voltorb.

Current Team:
MIKE the Beautifly, Level 20
DUSTER the Dustox, Level 20
KALA the Ninjask, Level 21
and MALTA the Shedinja, Level 20

Update 2.5:
  • Beat Wally's Ralts in one hit
  • Beat Wattson

Ditched the plan about Illumise. I'll wait for Anorith, then Heracross. Now, off to some more plot (and also Flannery).

Current Team:
MIKE the Beautifly, Level 21
DUSTER the Dustox, Level 22
KALA the Ninjask, Level 21
and MALTA the Shedinja, Level 22

And if it isn't too much trouble, may I be added to the original post? ;)

EDIT - Quick question: would you consider allowing Mega Stones and Z-Crystals? They're a pretty large feature in the games they're introduced, and personally I think there's something special about having a "team mega". I care less about Z-crystals, though, but I think it should be up to the player whether or not they want to use megas or Z-moves. Just my two cents.

As it says in the OP, they're too overpowered, imo. They make games that are already easy a lot easier with basically no challenge at all.

Would it be too much trouble for me to change the Gen IV section of my Ultimate Fire run from Platinum to Pearl?

I began playing Platinum on an emulator on my phone but I'm finding it runs a little sluggish compared to the older games. I was hoping to play on my handheld DS instead for a smoother experience but I own Pearl and not Platinum.

I started a progression post for Platinum which I will edit and restart for Pearl if this is ok.

Yeah, no prob. I'll be sure to keep this in mind when I update.

ELITE FOUR:
Spoiler:
- After some bad grinding and wasting all my money in medicines, i went to the final challenger
- The first E4, dont made trouble, my Tsuna destroyed his pokes
- The second E4 is not exactly a hard battle, but the coverage moves of my pokes are not made for this battle
- The third one as a kind of hard battle, bacause on Luffy as capable of taking the ice moves, used tropious as only sacrifice, but in the end... i won
- The fourth one as easy because of Luffy's Ice Beam, only Kingdra resisted but Zoro's Leaf Blades as finished the job
- Now... the champion, the big one... Wallace! He's a water typ, so its easy right? right?... NOPE, he crushed my whole team THREE times, he's team as a whole is easy BUT that Milotic, OH BOY, that milotic is a wolf in sheep clothes, only with a lucky move i as capable of eliminating the only threat of his team.
- I finally won, may and prof. reached only to see my great triunf, he took me to Hall of Fame, and... the credits roll.

Just kidding, this challenge as funny and i really liked it, soooo thanks for this oportunid :D (but really, you put my name riiighhtt?... please?)

kitarei February 28th, 2017 4:40 PM

Quick question. Rule 5 states you can trade in version exclusives so long as they are in the regional dex.

I switched from Platinum to Pearl which cuts down my fire types significantly, I can only obtain my starter and Ponyta pre-E4.

I wanted to trade over a Platinum exclusive or two so it's not just a two Pokemon bulldoze through the game, but I've realised that Platinum and Pearl do not share a regional pokedex - the fire types available in Platinum are not in Pearl's dex.

Does this mean this challenge must be completed with just the two Pokemon available in Pearl?

Emerald Bug Monotype Update 3:
  • Connected Rustboro and Verdanturf
  • Made way to Meteor Falls, saw Team Magma mug a guy for a space rock
  • Followed Team Magma up a volcano, stopped Maxie from expanding the volcano with a broken itemfinder or something
  • Beat Flannery because her Numel kept using Magnitude against KALA.
  • Took the Claw Fossil and revived an Anorith, named it ARTY

Now on to actually fight Brawly, then Norman.

Current Team:

MIKE the Beautifly, Level 33
DUSTER the Dustox, Level 32
KALA the Ninjask, Level 33
MALTA the Shedinja, Level 32
and ARTY the Anorith, Level 20

I did a little bit of grinding to be strong enough for these fights. Won't need to for Brawly, though!

I was going to have another update, but I've decided to take a short break to avoid burnout. Expect me to continue in a couple days. Just in case anybody was curious, I guess.

keishajay March 5th, 2017 2:41 PM

So, I started my ground run of Pokemon X last week, and I'm already to Cyllage City. I haven't gotten the badge here yet, but I need to do some serious grinding first. I caught a whole bunch of new ground pokemon on Route 9 and in the Glittering Cave. I'm on the hunt for a Golett on Route 10 too, but so far, no luck. Here's my team now:

https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen6/xy-animated/111.gif
Rhybecca
Lv. 19

https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen6/xy-animated/449.gif
Fat Amy
Lv. 20

https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen6/xy-animated/104.gif
Skullamy
Lv. 20

https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen6/xy-animated/095.gif
Boulda
Lv. 21

https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen6/xy-animated/551.gif
Medusa
Lv. 23

https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen6/xy-animated/660.gif
Babs
Lv. 26

Babs got me through everything up to Route 9 and only got knocked out a couple times, which was pretty impressive. And I don't know how this happened, but every single ground-type pokemon I ran in to first has been female. So, I guess this is an all-girl run too. ;) Also, I am strangely excited to be using Rhyhorn. I've always liked that evolution line (minus Rhyperior of course), and I've never used them. Now's my chance to get some mileage out of Rhybecca. I'm hoping I can get Medusa and Skullamy evolved before I face the gym leader, and I have to go back and find Rock Smash. Right now, Babs is the only one who knows a fighting move, and this gym is going to be really tedious without those.

Fire Red 0/8, Soul Silver 0/8, Emerald 8/8, Platinum 0/8, White 2/8, X 1/8, Sun 0/4

I've got another update for my Pokemon X ground run. I now have four badges and am just starting the Power Plant mission. My dice role at the beginning for my starter turned out to be a bit of bad luck, as Calem ended up with Froakie. My first time facing his Frogadier ended in a complete wipe of my team thanks to a badly timed critical hit on my Krokorok. I beat him easily the second time though. He didn't even use any water moves that time. Anyway, my team has switched up a bit, and here they are now.

I'm still going strong with this first encounter female ratio. Every single ground-type I've run in to is still female, with the exception of Golett of course. I have Diggersby, Dugtrio, Onyx, and Gible waiting in the box if I ever need them too. Also, I changed Skullamy's nickname to Skullvia, and my Onyx is now Barda.

If a Pokemon is in the Pokedex, but is only obtainable post-game, you can trade/hack it in. :)

Quote:

Rule #5 applies to any Pokemon only available in the post-game or not at all, but are still in the Regional Dex, which are: (also incluing all of evo line)
- G/S/C: Anything only available in Kanto/Mt. Silver (i.e. Houndour, Misdreavus, etc.) Same applies to HG/SS, but much more limited due to Safari Zone. More detailed list is coming at some point
- R/S/E/OR/AS: Beldum
- B2/W2: Archen, Tirtouga, Tympole, Munna, Durant, Heatmor, Cyrogonal, Stunfisk, Larvitar, Croagunk, Carnivine, Tropius, Yanma, Lickitung, Igglybuff, Slakoth, Corphish

However, I'm playing on an emulator, and I have no idea how to hack it in on an emulator, especially since I want to keep my starter (and not replace it with Tympole)

I feel I should mention that I've been very slowly updating this, and once I'm done I'll try to stick to a weekly schedule. So if you don't see your username in the update list, just be patient, I'll get to it.

And an update for myself.
Sun - Dragon Monotype

I traded in a Drampa egg at the beginning, and just solo'd with him until I beat Hala.
Today just also happens to be Tuesday, so I used Island scan to get Deino, and I'll be doing tomorrow as well to get Horsea.

I have so far beaten Lana's Trial, my team as of now:
Drampa Lv.22

L'Belle's Adventure on the Big Blue sea!

Currently traveling through: Alola (Moon)
Progress on Ultimate Challenge: Fire Red, Soul Silver, Ruby, Pearl, White 2, Y, Moon

- Got to Akala Island
- Caught a Poliwag on Brooklet Hill
- Defeated totem Wishiwashi
- Caught a Goldeen on Brooklet Hill
- Defeated totem Salazzle
- So when I defeated Salazzle, I immediatly started to get the fear sweats. If I don't overlevel or get something good against it, I am getting Fucked. So I came up with the great idea: Why not both? I caught a Wimpod and leveled everyone to Lvl 30 (Yes, this is how anxious I was). Wimpod evolved to Golisopod, and Poliwag to Poliwhirl. I used my waterstone to make it Poliwrath.
- Defeated totem Lurantis with ease thanks to Golisopod.
- Defeated Olivia

Sun - Dragon Monotype
Island Trials: 6/7
Grand Trials: 2/4

On my way to Po Town, last saved right in front of Ula'ula Meadow.

I had a fainted Butterfree at the front of my team so I could increase the chances of Horsea having a Dragon Scale, and it was quick as the second one had it. I also farmed a Dragon Fang from Bagon for obvious reasons.
I stopped using Drampa and Deino once I got Axew, as they were somewhat lacking compared to Kingdra, and later caught Turtonator and Gabite. I was also pleasantly surprised that Turtonator can learn Charge Beam. :D
My last two members are going to be the obvious ones, Alolan Exeggutor and Kommo-o, but it sucks that I have to wait until the last Island for these.

So finally, here's my team up to this point:

Ultimate Flying Monotype Challenge
Game:
Black 2
Badges: 8
Unova Completed!

Status:
Leaf Green, Soul Silver, Omega Ruby, Platinum, Black 2 (8/8), Y, S/M (0/8)

Here goes my first actual update in the new thread. I can see that I haven't been added to the ultimate challenger's list yet, so I figured I should probably do some updating to get that sorted out. As of this update, I'm only missing Alola on my Fire-, Grass- and Flying challenges, and a few more on my Bug challenge.

Anyway, I just recently beat the E4 and Iris in Black 2. Sigilyph and Swanna took down Shauntal in a team effort, Crobat blasted through Marshal's entire team, Emolga took out most of Caitlin's team, but had to bring in help from Unfezant, and Crobat almost took out all of Grimsley's team, but Mandibuzz had to finish him off. As for Iris, Emolga was off to a great start, taking out Hydreigon, but was then beaten by Lapras. Unfezant then managed to take down Lapras and Druddigon, but was beaten by Archeops. Swanna was then sent in to clean up. And that's it, here's my final team:

http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/black-white/animated/unfezant-female.gif
Unfezant, lv. 62 w/ Silk Scarf
Female // Adamant // Big Pecks
- Return
- U-turn
- Fly
- Roost
Unfezant was kinda cool to use, but it has an absolutely terrible movepool. Sure, most generic birds have terrible movepools, but Unfezant doesn't even learn a decent Flying-type attack. Sure, on a mono-Flying team, it wasn't exactly needed, but still... Come on. Still, Unfezant powered through more enemies than expected with a hard-hitting Return.
http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/black-white/animated/crobat.gif
Crobat, lv. 65
Female // Adamant // Inner Focus
- Acrobatics
- Cross Poison
- Zen Headbutt
- X-Scissor
I don't really have much to say about Crobat. I've used it on several of my Flying-type challenges for a reason - I absolutely adore Crobat.
http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/black-white/animated/swanna.gif
Swanna, lv. 64 w/ Wide Lens
Male // Timid // Big Pecks
- Surf
- Hurricane
- Rain Dance
- Ice Beam
I used Swanna on my Kalos Flying-team, as well, and I've gotta say - eh. Swanna is alright, and Ice Beam provided great coverage, but other than that, Swanna is kinda - well - boring. Design-wise, if nothing else.
http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/black-white/animated/sigilyph.gif
Sigilyph, lv. 62 w/ TwistedSpoon
Male // Bold // Magic Guard
- Psychic
- Air Slash
- Energy Ball
- Shadow Ball
Sigilyph is awesome. I love its freaky design. It was fun to use, if maybe a little difficult to utilize properly.
http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/black-white/animated/mandibuzz.gif
Mandibuzz, lv. 63 w/ Leftovers
Female // Careful // Weak Armor
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Bone Rush
- Roost
If not for the fact that the game gives you a level 25(I think?) Mandibuzz with its HA, I never would've used it. It has a weird stat distribution, a kinda lackluster movepool, and I'm not too keen on its design. I ended up kinda liking it, though. Mandibuzz, you're alright.
http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/black-white/animated/emolga.gif
Emolga, lv. 62 w/ Magnet
Male // Timid // Static
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
- Signal Beam
As far as Pikachu clones go, I really like Emolga, Stat- and movepool-wise, it's a little underwhelming, sure, but it's adorable and just powerful enough to be a pretty decent team member.

Alpha Sapphire, Fighting
Log #7 and last:

Done it! The Elite four was easy until I met Drake's Salamance and I had to start over. Then with a bit of strategy, he was defeated too. Steven's Metagross was another matter, completely wrecked me. In my second try, I just taught Candy Kitty bulk up, setup on his Cradily and it was over, a crunch here, a brick break there. Lots of fun, gonna do a Wonderlocke on Pokemon moon, then I'm going to come back for more monotype!

Sun - Dragon Monotype

Challenge Completed

I beat Guzma with really no issue, thanks to Turtonator's Flamethrower.
Once I did all the Aether Paradise stuff, and after barely beating Lusamine and getting to Poni Island, I went back to Hano Beach and farmed up some Stardust and Star Pieces from the Staryu there.

**FYI, great place to get money at this point in the game and even late game if you're desperate, just have a fainted Butterfree and a Pokemon with Thief, then you're set. Compound Eyes makes Staryu have 60% of Stardust and 20% chance of Star Piece, and they also drop some after battle sometimes.

After catching an Exeggcute (because catching Exeggutor already evolved doesn't have Dragon Hammer -.-), I noticed my problem was that my Pokemon can't take special hits for shit, so I went back to Route 17 and caught a Goomy (I would've just caught Sliggoo where I was at if it were raining), and after 20 or so chained Fearow, one finally popped up, and guess what?
It had it's HA, Gooey, which has been super helpful, and also had perfect IVs in Attack, Special Attack and Special Defense (according to serebii's stat calculator).

I trained a LOT and got my team to about 48, and continuing through Vast Poni Canyon, my team was 52-53 when fighting Lusamine in Ultra Space.
Goodra was an absolute beast. My amazing slime dragon used two Sludge Waves on Clefable, then took 3 Moonblasts before she swapped it out, and after I healed, Goodra proceeded to wreck the rest of her team, then finished Clefable with a final Sludge Wave.

So after all that, I went to the Pokemon League, taught my Pokemon some new moves with the Heart Scale lady, trained a bit, then took out the Elite Four.

My team, Goodra was by far my MVP for the remainder of the game:

Ultimate Fire Monotype Challenge
Game:
Moon
Island Trials: 1/7
Grand Trials: 1/4

Finally starting up my Alolan Fire-type challenge! I've spent longer than I care to admit soft resetting for natures, but I've finally completed Melemele Island. Finally got myself an Adamant Litten, after what seemed like forever, caught a Jolly Growlithe, trained for a bit, and then completed Ilima's trial. Then I spent an eternity in Melemele Meadow, trying to get a Timid or a Modest Oricorio, before I finally caught myself a Timid one. I've traded a Red Nectar to my game, along with a level 29 Turtonator from Sun, which is sitting comfortably in the PC, until one of my other Pokémon reaches level 29, and I'm allowed to use it. As for Hala, I figured Oricorio could use the training, so she blasted through his entire team with Air Cutter.

Here's my team so far:

Nice to see this has been renovated. Let's do another for myself, shall we?

Forum User Name: Swagroar (formerly Pendraflare)
Game(s): Alpha Sapphire
Pokémon Type: Poison
Single/Ultimate/Free Mode?: Single for right now, but I did Y back in 2013

Also, I will not be using any items in battle once I have more than one Pokémon in my party. But I will be allowing them until after I beat Roxanne at least. I had to, because otherwise it would've been a chore for the first badge.
Spoiler:
So I started the game, chose the guy and named him Opium. I did all the opening stuff, including getting friend zoned by May, saving Professor Birch from a Poochyena, meeting his kid and what have you. I chose Torchic as my starter. I did fight the first Youngster on Route 102, though, because I wanted to find a high level Wurmple. I eventually got to Petalburg Woods (without fighting any of the other trainers), saved, and found a Level 5 Wurmple, which I caught, but accidentally answered No when asked if I wanted to nickname it. I'll worry about that once we reach Slateport. I did switch train to beat a couple trainers, and I did use Torchic against them, but I only did so so I could get Wurmple to evolve ASAP so I could see what it'd evolve into. After a couple trainers, Wurmple reached Level 7 and evolved into Cascoon, so we were good to go. I beat a few more trainers, and went through Petalburg Woods, going after that grunt with the Poochyena. However, initially I couldn't beat Rich Boy Winston, because his Zigzagoon used Tail Whip and Growl and left me unable to do much at all. So I reset the game at that point, but I made it to the other side and then came to a Lass with a Shroomish that had Leech Seed and seriously tested my patience. Then we beat the two Twins that use Grass-types, and after that battle, Silcoon evolved. Afterwards I took on the last of the trainers I skipped.

Then we came to Rustboro, where May had already arrived. I skipped over to Route 116 or whatever it was and beat a couple of the trainers until I got to Level 12 and learned Confusion. Then I went back to the Gym and beat the three trainers there, and finished off the trainers on Route 116. Afterwards, I trained in Petalburg Woods against Cascoon, and reached Level 15 for Poison Powder. That was definitely a plus, because then I wouldn't need to keep flailing with Poison Sting and hoping to randomly poison the foe (there were at least two battles where there was no poison after four usages of the move, come on).

But with everything I could do taken care of, I came to Roxanne, ready for battle! This took me two tries. First try her Geodude scored a critical hit with the third usage of Rock Tomb.

I only had Dustox, so I had to use that against Geodude. I began with a Harden, as her Rock Tomb did just over 1/4, so it was a 4HKO with that boost. And because of Shield Dust, I don’t have to worry about the Speed drop, so that’s a plus. I then decided to go for another Harden, and her next Rock Tomb left me with a little over half (without any critical hits I would have lived three more if she kept doing the same amount). Then I went for Confusion, which scored a critical hit for over half AND she missed with Rock Tomb. Woo! Another Confusion finished her.
Nosepass was next, however. This I decided to go for Poison Powder against, and thankfully it hit. Then her Rock Tomb did 8 HP (this was with +2 Defense), and it got me to eat my Oran Berry, leaving me at 3/5. I used Confusion next, and that did around 1/4 or so before Rock Tomb got me below half. Poison got her near half. I used Confusion again, and her Rock Tomb got me to 1/4 before poison got her to healing range. As she healed, another Confusion felt like it did less. Unsure of how much I’d potentially do, I used a Potion, and she used Rock Tomb again and I was one point above half before she took poison damage. After another Confusion got her low, she used Rock Tomb once more, but I was able to not be finished off, and after another round of poison damage I finished her off with another Confusion.

Very nice, that turned out not as bad as I was prepared for. Then again, that Geodude got unlucky. But I don't know if I absolutely needed that Potion, but I'm not complaining. Anyway, I got the Stone Badge and TM39 for Rock Tomb, then left the Gym to see an Aqua Grunt stealing some package. We'll have to go after him! But we'll take to that later.

Ultimate Fire Monotype Challenge
Game:
Moon
Island Trials: 4/7
Grand Trials: 2/4

Just arrived at Ula'ula Island! Lana's trial was a pain, that Wishiwashi Totem destroyed my team, like, four or five times, so I had to grind for a while and plan some sort of strategy. Growlithe would sacrifice itself, getting in as many Confides as possible, then Torracat would paralyze it with Lick, and finally Oricorio would spam Air Cutter and hope for the best. Before Kiawe's trial, I caught myself a Cubone and a Salandit. Cubone one-shotted the Salazzle Totem, and (almost) the entire team took down the Lurantis Totem in a surprisingly difficult battle. By the time I went up against Olivia, Torracat and Oricorio had reached level 29, so I was allowed to use the Turtonator from Sun that was sitting in my PC. Good thing, too, it saved me in the battle against her. Cubone had evolved by then and lost what little advantage it otherwise had against her. Side-note, Alolan Marowak is sick af.

Ultimate Fire Monotype Challenge
Game:
Moon
Island Trials: 7/7
Grand Trials: 4/4
Ultimate Challenge completed!

That's it! Once again, my Fire-type UMC is complete! I've been through a few trials since my last update, so I'm just gonna do an update on the E4.
Oricorio handled itself well at first against Hala, but was taken out by Poliwrath, so Arcanine had to step in with Wild Charge. In the end, I think it was Marowak who took out most of his Pokémon.
Olivia was tough. Had to use a Max Revive, even. I think Turtonator was able to win in the end. Turtonator was MVP for sure during this E4 challenge.
Acerola(?) was kinda tough, as well. Incineroar, Marowak and Arcanine all had to chip in.
I forgot the Flying-type trainer's name, but she was by far the easiest of the bunch. Turtonator was able to set up two Shell Smashes and then just proceeded to wreck her team.

Then there was Kukui. I had a lot of trouble with Kukui. His damn Lycanroc singlehandedly took out three of my Pokémon, before it for some reason decided to set up Stealth Rock, so I could set up with Turtonator and take it out with Flash Cannon. The rest of the battle was a desperate stalling game of me constantly reviving fainted Pokémon. In the end, all I had was Turtonator (again!) against his Ninetales. After surviving a Blizzard that I thought for sure would make me start over, Turtonator finally finished the battle with a Flash Cannon. Crazy difficult battle.

FINAL TEAM:
http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/sol-luna/sprites/animados/incineroar.gif
Incineroar, lv. 57 w/ Expert Belt
Male // Adamant // Blaze
- Flare Blitz
- Darkest Lariat
- Cross Chop
- Leech Life
When they were announced, Incineroar was certainly not my favorite starter, but boy, has it grown on me. There's a lot of personality and charm to it for a Dark-type Pokémon that is trying very hard not to be a Fighting-type. All in all, a really cool starter, I think.
http://www.pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/arcanine.gif
Arcanine, lv. 56 w/ Quick Claw
Female // Jolly // Intimidate
- Flare Blitz
- Outrage
- Crunch
- Wild Charge
Throughout this challenge, I wanted to use only new Alolan Pokémon or Alola Forms. That left me with one slot after a bit of team planning, and how could I not fill that slot with Arcanine? An iconic Fire-type ever since its introduction. I don't need to do any sort of analysis of Arcanine, Arcanine is amazing. That's all there is to it
http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/sol-luna/sprites/animados/oricorio.gif
Oricorio, lv. 56 w/ Sharp Beak
Female // Timid // Dancer
- Revelation Dance
- Air Slash
- Mirror Move
- Roost
Oricorio felt very much like a generic Normal/Flying bird that also kind of maybe was a bit of a Fire-type. I adore the design, and its dancing animations were really cool, but other than that, it was a little difficult to get excited about Oricorio.
http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/sol-luna/sprites/animados/marowak-alola.gif
Marowak, lv. 58 w/ Thick Club
Female // Adamant // Lightning Rod
- Flare Blitz
- Bonemerang
- Rock Slide
- Shadow Bone
The baddest of the bad, Alolan Marowak is clearly the superior Marowak, because how can you even begin to compare this majestic craziness to the absolute mediocrity that is regular Marowak? 10/10, for design, if nothing else. And, of course, it's crazy strong with Thick Club.
http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/sol-luna/sprites/animados/salazzle.gif
Salazzle, lv. 58 w/ Poison Barb
Female // Modest // Corrosion
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Pulse
- Nasty Plot
- Sludge Wave
Other than the fact that soft-resetting for this thing took an eternity and a half, Salazzle was super fun to use. Amongst a region of snail-tier speed stats, Salazzle was sure to go first 90% of the time. Couldn't take a hit, though, which made it difficult to set up.
http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/sol-luna/sprites/animados/turtonator.gif
Turtonator, lv. 59 w/ Charcoal
Female // Timid // Shell Armor
- Flamethrower
- Flash Cannon
- Dragon Pulse
- Shell Smash
Oh boy. I did not have my hopes up for Turtonator, and I was not initially planning on using one with a Timid nature. Incredibly, though, a Timid Turtonator with Shell Smash proved to be a REALLY solid strategy. At +2 speed, Turtonator would outspeed almost anything I threw it at. And at +2 Sp. Attack, it would usually OHKO it, as well. MVP for sure against the E4, and just a much more fun Pokémon than I thought it would be.

All in all, fun challenge, I'll have to do this again when Gen 8 comes out!

Alpha Sapphire Poison Monotype - Update #2

Spoiler:
After beating Roxanne, we had to go through Route 116 to save Peeko from a Team Aqua grunt, as well as some goods. I found the grunt there, and Dustox managed to beat him despite him using Sand-Attack. I got the Devon Goods back, and returned them to the Devon Corporation, and after some talk I got the BuzzNav. Then, May was waiting for me outside for some reason, but after some insignificant stuff I made my way to Briney's house on Route 104. He got us to Dewford Town. I got the Old Rod from a Fisherman there, and managed to catch a Tentacool that I would name Whiplash. Afterwards I caught a Zubat in the Granite Cave that I once again forgot to nickname right away. I beat the Fishermen on the route, and went back to near Rustboro City to train my team some. I was trying to avoid using Dustox as much as possible, since he was a hair away from Brawly's highest level thanks to him being my only team member for a while.

Eventually, we got their levels up, and they had proper attacking moves, so we were set for the Gym. The trainers weren't much worth discussion, and Brawly I didn't take any damage from either. Zubat 2HKO'd both his team members with Wing Attack.

Afterwards we were able to go to Route 109, but before doing anything else, there were two Pokémon I wanted to get my hands on, so I went through Slateport City. But before going to Route 110, the first thing I did was go to the Name Rater and nickname the two Pokémon I forgot to do so earlier - naming Dustox Larvae and Zubat Fastball. I then went right up to Route 110. The first Pokémon I caught was a Gulpin named Creme Brule. The second was an Oddish named Tiny. The former I'm sure will be a long-term team member, but not the latter, as I have a better Grass-type coming in due time, although this one will be good for Sweet Scent later, at least.

But we went back to beat the trainers. Some of them did a bit of damage, but not much overall. I checked out Slateport City, met with someone at the dock, and entered the museum where I beat some grunts, including the 27th strongest member of Team Aqua. That is oddly specific. Archie then went on about how the world needs more water. Dude, cool it before I give you a 7.8/10. Then there was the brief bit with Lisia at the Contest Hall, but I progressed through Route 109. After an annoying Poké Fan with Plusle and Minun, I wasted no time in getting to May. Zubat couldn't do more than half to her Shroomish, but that was handled with ease. Then her Marshtomp was a thing, but Whiplash managed to poison it with Poison Sting then it was basically just stalling her out. Slugma was taken care of with Whiplash as well.

After she gave me the Dowsing Machine, I went straight to Mauville City, and to Route 117, where I caught a Roselia named Sour Patch and immediately added it to the team. Then I went back to Route 109 and battled the trainers there, as well as on Route 103. Again, there were a few annoying things (like the double battle with Plusle and Minun), but we got through them and got some good EXP. I also bought Venoshock at Mauville City before I went there.

Then I beat Wally in front of the Gym, and decided to enter. The first trainer had a Magnemite that was slightly cumbersome to deal with, but not awful. We did have to deal with a Meditite that knew Thunder Punch, though, and that kind of ripped a hole through my team. But we beat it. Afterwards, it was Gym Leader time!

I began with Sour Patch against Magnemite. I used Magical Leaf, and despite resistance, it did roughly 1/3 even with the Miracle Seed, and he used Thunder Wave and paralyzed me. I switched out for Tiny, which is good since Sour Patch has Natural Cure, as he used Tackle for 1/7 my health. Then came a Thunder Wave, however, but I hit with Sleep Powder. I went back to Sour Patch as he snoozed, and used Magical Leaf, but it got him into the red, and he woke up first turn. REALLY?!?! He paralyzed me with Thunder Wave. I switched out for Tiny again before he healed. He used Tackle again, and I hit once more with Sleep Powder. I went back to Sour Patch as he snoozed, and used Magical Leaf for less than half, and HE WOKE UP ON THE FIRST TURN AGAIN AND USED FRICKEN THUNDER WAVE AGAIN!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! STOP WAKING UP SO I CAN FINISH YOU OFF!!!!!!!!!! I had to switch to Tiny AGAIN, take another Tackle (but still have over half my health left), and then he used Volt Switch for a bit under half my remaining health, but I had an Oran Berry. And then he came to Magneton.
But that was immediately met with a Sleep Powder. I switched to Larvae, and he was faster but continued to snooze, while I hit with a Struggle Bug for a very weak hit but lowering his Sp Atk. Same deal next turn. Then he woke up and used Supersonic, which sadly hit, and I hit myself. Knowing that staying in was pointless, I brought in Whiplash, as he used Magnet Bomb for 1/3 my health. Ouch! He hit with Supersonic again, but I hit through confusion, and Water Pulse got him to half and confused him, too. But he hit through it and used Volt Switch, and even with -2 I barely lived, and Voltorb came in.
And I hit myself in confusion and was KO’d. I brought in Sour Patch and took a very weak Volt Switch, as he went to Magneton again. Magical Leaf did over half his remaining health, leaving him in KO range of another, but he used Supersonic again. Afraid to stay in, I brought in Creme Brule, and he used Magnet Bomb for less than 1/5 my health. He missed with Supersonic - mercifully so - as I used Yawn. I stayed in on the off-chance that he would hit with Supersonic - which he did - after a pointless Quick Claw before getting Yawn, though. Then he fell asleep. I brought in Sour Patch again as he snoozed… And he didn’t wake up next turn! That allowed me to finish him with Magical Leaf. Sour Patch, Tiny and Creme Brule all gained levels, too.
Magnemite was next up again, and Magical Leaf got it super close to finishing it off, but he used Thunder Wave. I brought in Fastball as he used Tackle for a small hit. Bite finished him off.
Last up was Voltorb again, who hadn’t done much. I brought in Creme Brule, took a Volt Switch for 1/3 my remaining health, then another, and I used Yawn. Then I switched out for Larvae, took a Volt Switch for 1/5 my health, then he fell asleep. As he snoozed, I used Struggle Bug, which didn’t do that much, but it lowered his Sp Atk. Two hits had him below half. He woke up after two turns but didn’t do much at all, and two more turns finished him, even after he used Charge on the last turn. Not sure why you didn’t do that in the first place…

And with that, I got the Dynamo Badge and a TM I won't be able to use. Heading outside, I saw that Team Aqua were getting ready for their departure...

Alpha Sapphire Poison Monotype - Update #3

Spoiler:
After beating Wattson, I headed to Verdanturf and beat the trainers on the way, and used Rock Smash to open the path in Rusturf Tunnel. Also, Tiny evolved into a Gloom, and Fastball became a Golbat. Then it was time to make way through Routes 111 and 112, but along the way there were two Pokémon I caught - a Grimer named Blurbs and a Koffing named Dope. The former I wouldn't be using on my team, but the latter I would. Also, Fastball evolved once again into a Crobat. However, then was the time to leave Tiny behind, as I already had a Grass-type to back me up. We continued to battle trainers, allowing Dope to gain some EXP along the way to catch up. Then there was Route 113, where there were more trainers to battle to help Dope level up. I honestly don't remember many of the trainers here (although that wasn't helped by my being away from my computer for most of it). May watched Professor Cozmo be taken to Meteor Falls, and I had to follow her down Route 114. Once we were there, I battled Team Aqua alongside her and that wasn't too bad. After all was said and done there, it was time to head up Mt. Chimney. After two rather simple fights, Archie knew I was onto him, and it was time!

I began with Whiplash against Mightyena. I got in an Acid Spray for not much besides halving his Special Defense…because he used Roar and forced me out to Sour Patch. Actually that’s not too bad, because his Special Defense was just halved, allowing me to finish him from 90% or so with Magical Leaf.
Sharpedo was next, and I wondered why he didn’t bring in Golbat instead. This WOULD be perfect… Except for the fact that he’s faster and will probably OHKO me. I brought in Whiplash, who took an Ice Fang for 1/3 health and was frozen solid. Assurance then finished me off. I brought in Larvae, and he used Screech to half my Defense, while I got in a Struggle Bug for around 2/3 and a pointless Special Attack drop. Then he used Assurance, which I lived with 9 HP, allowing me to finish him with another Struggle Bug. Both Larvae and Sour Patch grew to Level 25. The former tried to learn Silver Wind, but I passed on it. The latter, however, learned Giga Drain, which I dropped Mega Drain for.
Golbat was last and finished me with Wing Attack. I brought in Creme Brule, and she was met with a Confuse Ray, and I hit myself. After another Wing Attack, I was right near half but managed to hit with Yawn that time, then I brought in Fastball, and after a weak Wing Attack he fell asleep. Mine was a 3HKO, and thankfully he didn’t wake up, allowing me to get the job done. Creme Brule grew to Level 25, and learned Toxic, which I dropped Poison Gas for. Heck yeah!

He surrendered the Meteorite, and Team Aqua thanked me for dealing with him. Then I went down the Jagged Pass and arrived in Lavaridge Town. There were a few things for me to get, but the main thing was the Gym. I beat the trainers there, some dealt a bit of damage but nothing worth noting. It wasn't long before we got to the Gym Leader.

As for Flannery, I was away from my computer when I did this battle as well, so I'll make this quick: Slugma was 2HKO’d with Acid Spray followed by Sludge from Creme Brule (she only used Sunny Day), Sour Patch switched into a light Earth Power from Numel, put her to sleep with Grass Whistle and OHKO’d her with Giga Drain, then Torkoal avoided a Grass Whistle, OHKO’d with Overheat, and then Whiplash did just over half with Bubble Beam and she used Sunny Day. I don’t remember everything that happened after, but I do remember Dope coming in and getting rid of her Curse with Clear Smog before being OHKO’d with Overheat, and I also remember having Larvae poison her with Poison Powder (after a miss, she missed with Overheat also) and lower her Special Attack with Struggle Bug. Eventually she succumbed to poison. Oh, and after the battle Creme Brule became a Swalot.

So I got the Heat Badge, and May offered to take me back to Petalburg. First I dealt with the trainers in the Jagged Pass that I missed, and then the desert on Route 111. Once again, there wasn't that much to them, although there was a Sandslash that could've killed Creme Brule after locking me in with Sand Tomb, but no, it used Poison Sting for whatever reason. Fail. And thanks to snoozing and Acid Spray she was able to finish it.

Before going back to Lavaridge Town, I did get one important item in the Fiery Path: TM06 for Toxic. One of the best moves in the game, and it's even better with Poison-types because in the 3DS games it never misses if used by a Poison-type, which is pretty awesome, especially when paired with Venoshock.

Then we returned to Petalburg City with May, and I took on the Gym trainers. Some of them dealt some damage, but both Zangoose were weird and used Revenge. I say... WUT. After we beat all the trainers, I decided it was time for Mr. Dad Norman!

I began with Creme Brule against the first Slaking, and he began with Yawn, as predicted, as I used Acid Spray to do a bit of damage and half his Special Defense. As he loafed around, I used Toxic to badly poison him. He took damage, then I fell asleep…but that activated my trap card, the Chesto Berry, waking me up. And he used Yawn again - because of course he did - but I finished him with Venoshock right there, between Toxic and the Acid Spray. And Creme Brule grew to Level 28.
Vigoroth came after. I switched to Dope, and he used Encore, but that did nothing. He then used Retaliate for slightly under half as I went with Toxic. After he took damage, I switched out for Whiplash as he used Encore - good thing I switched - and after some poison damage followed by a Retaliate that did over 2/3, I used Venoshock, which finished him with from 13/16 a critical hit that most likely mattered. Dope grew to Level 28.
The second Slaking was next in line. I decided to sack off Dope to a Chip Away, seeing as he had just reached Level 28 while Whiplash was a nose away from then. Larvae was next, and as he loafed around I got in a Toxic. He took damage and used Retaliate for over 2/3, as my Venoshock didn’t do that much. He loafed around as I used Moonlight, but I wasn’t sure if that would allow me to survive another hit from him. Toxic got him below half, and he used… Swagger? But I hit through it and after another Venoshock, Toxic finished him off for the win. Whiplash grew to Level 28 and tried to learn Barrier, but I passed.
