The Monosize Challenge
The Monosize Challenge ![]() In this challenge, you will venture to complete a game using Pokémon that all belong to a certain height/weight class, defined as such: The Classes http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/5/57/083MS.png XS Class: 0.1m-0.9m and/or 0kg-20.0kg http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/1/14/012MS.png S Class: 1.0m-1.2m and/or 20.1kg-35.0kg http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/1/1a/107MS.png M Class: 1.3m-1.5m and/or 35.1kg-60.0kg http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/0/01/006MS.png L Class: 1.6m-1.9m and/or 60.1kg-120.0kg http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/c/cd/095MS.png XL Class: At least 2.0m and/or At least 120.1kg (See the Refernce Material section below for all the individual class lists, as well as the combined Compendium) The Rules 1. The challenge is complete once the credits roll for the first time, except: -in G/S/C, in which Red must be defeated at Mt. Silver -in HG/SS, in which the E4/Champion must be rematched after obtaining all 16 badges 2. A minimum of 3 viable team member is required, unless that amount is not legally obtainable before the end of the challenge. (That being said, more than 3 is highly encouraged) 3. Using pre-evolutions of a Pokémon in your chosen class is fine, as long as you evolve it as soon as possible. 4. Hacking/trading in team members is only permitted if (a) an evolution requires it, or (b) no viable Pokémon are obtainable before the second gym / first grand trial. In the case of (b), one low level Pokémon / egg may be hacked/traded to your game. This Pokémon must be obtainable naturally before the post-game in your given game. 5. Certain legendaries are permitted, under the following guidelines: - The legendary's BST must be under 600 - Only one legendary per team - The legendary is not used until the seventh badge is obtained (with the exception of Zygarde 10% in Su/Mo) Spoiler: Legal Legendaries
6. For Pokemon whose height/weight change via an ability (Wishiwashi, Minior, etc.), the Pokemon is treated as having no ability for classification purposes. 7. Rules specific to Gens VI and VII: -Pokemon-Amie / Pokemon Refresh is not permitted (with the one exception of doing as much as is needed to evolve an Eevee into a Sylveon) -EXP Share is permitted, but try not to go overboard -Mega Evolutions are permitted. However, classification is determined by the base Pokemon only. (For example, Mega Manectric can be used in an M Class run, since that is where Manetric naturally resides, but it is not permitted in an L Class run, where it technically qualifies based on its height) ULTIMATES You will be upgraded to an ULTIMATE CHAMPION once you complete a game using the same class in each of a certain number of generations. For the Monosize Challenge, there are three tiers of ultimate champions: Bronze Tier: Up to and including Gen V Silver Tier: Up to and including Gen VI Gold Tier: Up to and including Gen VII Notes: -Only main series games, or hacks that occur within the same region and follow the same storyline as their base game, can be considered for Ultimate Champion status -You do not need to declare an Ultimate to be granted Ultimate status. Once you beat the right games, I'll bump you up Sign-up Name: (PC name please, not your in-game name) Game: Monosize Class: Champions Singles Spoiler:

XS Class Monosize Challenge (FireRed) - First Update Spoiler:

ON the OP can you include the size regions in Feet/Inches and Pounds, for those of us in the USA, I could make calculations but I think it would be easie if you had it listed in the OP

While this seems like a promising challenge, I feel the need to critique the ranges of each class - specifically the XS Height Class.
0.1-0.9m just plain has too many available pokémon compared to the other classes. Yes, it's true that many options in the range are rather weak, but there's also the fact that a good number of strong pokémon are in there too - Kartana, anyone? Given that there are substantially LESS pokémon in any other category, I'd say you should redefine the XS Class. My suggestion would be: Spoiler:
Concerning current runners, if the rules get changed to like this, I'd still let them finish; maybe add a (*) or other note to runners who played before the change. Again, this is a mere suggestion, but I thought this would even out the playing field a little more. |

When originally constructing the classes, I had criteria as to which Pokemon I would take into account when tallying numbers: -Only count fully evolved Pokemon, since I was assuming, fairly logically I think, that those would be what most people would be wanting to use in a challenge of this nature -Don't count legendaries with BSTs above 600 -Don't count Mega evolutions (they can be used, but for classification purposes only count the base Pokemon) -Don't count Ultra Beasts, since they are only available after the challenge would already be complete Initially this challenge was going to have separate classes for height and weight, and admittedly I did my initial tallies and constructed the fenceposts with that in mind. That being said, I just took a quick tally of the combined classes (with the above criteria still in mind), and came up with these numbers. XS : 97 S: 130 M: 121 L: 120 XL: 85 While XS and XL have relatively few contenders compared to the other three, I couldn't be happier with those 3 being within 10 Pokemon of each other. Again, thank you for your time and consideration in regards to this challenge, but I'm quite happy with how everything landed, and delighted with the interest I've gotten so far. |

Halfcadence,
Wouldn't those who are going for a Sylveon need Pokemon Amie/Pokemon Refresh to evolve it? (Eevee) I'm asking this because I want a Sylveon in my run since the other fairies simply did not fit. |

Aye, I did do a decent amount of progress, I must admit.
Current Team after defeating Grant and Korrina Flitter the Male Raichu Lv. 33 - Thunder Wave - Strength - Electro Ball - I..literally cannot remember what was here. Lullaby the Female Fletchinder Lv. 32 - Peck - Ember - Quick Attack - Tackle Felix the Male Sylveon Lv. 31 - Baby-Doll Eyes - Bite - Quick Attack - My memory must suck. Fang the Male Vaporeon Lv. 30 - Surf - Quick Attack - Bite - Baby-Doll Eyes? Lavender the Female Stunky Lv. 30 - Toxic - Fury Swipes - Screech - Slash I soon need to get a Shuppet to aquire Banette, but Banette is in Pokemon Village on only Thursdays so that could be a conflict. |
Final Update: Post Elite Four and Long, Long, Cutscene.
All done! http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-sm/icon/739.png Shrimp the Jolly Crabrawler, Female, Lv 56 Ability: Iron Fist Item: Fightinium Z Moves: Dizzy Punch, Power-Up Punch, Close Combat, Crabhammer A surprisingly sturdy little crab and the longest-serving member of the team. Sadly wasn't allowed to evolve on Mount Lanakila, but dealt almost single-handedly (single-gloved?) with Olivia's team. http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-sm/icon/741.png Slippers the Timid Oricorio (Baile Style), Female, Lv 57 Ability: Dancer Item: Sharp Beak Moves: Revelation Dance, Roost, Air Slash, Hurricane Joined the team shortly after Shrimp. Cute and quick, but didn't learn anything other than Flying moves until level 40. Still useful, though I wish the cuter Pom-pom style had worked with the team. Took care of some dangerous Elite 4 Pokemon like Skarmony and Crabomible. http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-sm/icon/745.png Pin the Jolly Lycanroc, Female, Lv 56 Ability: Keen Eye Item: Hard Stone Moves: Stealth Rock, Accelerock, Rock Slide, Crunch Not very sturdy for a Rock-type but a killer of Flying types. Stealth Rock wore down a lot of Pokemon in big boss fights, Accelerock them finished off. Killed off Kahili's team. http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-sm/icon/756.png Teaspoon the Calm Shiinotic, Female, Lv 57 Ability: Effect Spore Item: Big Root Moves: Spore, Sap Strength, Moonblast, Giga Drain Was meant to be a temporary team member to deal with Lana's trial. Stayed because she is basically a vampire. Moonblasted anything she couldn't drain. http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-sm/icon/775.png Naps the Adamant Komala, Male, Lv 53 Ability: Comatose Item: Muscle Band Moves: Swords Dance, Thrash, Sucker Punch, Wood Hammer Didn't fit in with the team as much as I hoped. There wasn't much that another team member couldn't deal with better. Comatose is an interesting ability. http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-sm/icon/778.png Stitches the Adamant Mimikyu, Female, Lv 57 Ability: Disguise Item: Scope Lens Moves: Swords Dance, Shadow Sneak, Play Rough, Shadow Claw The last team member to join. Absurdly good. Guaranteed a Swords Dance and away she goes. Killed off all the Elite Four ghosts. |
This seems a fun kinda different. I'll sign up now.

First of all, my apologies for lacking in updates, I got caught up in a Nuzlocke competition through Reddit and I was dedicating all my time to it (I only came in 2nd :/ ). That being said, I'm totally excited by the number of people participating in this and keep the thread alive, so thank you <3

Couple of tweeks I've needed to make to make my run not so limited. I've switched to Fire Red (opens up Arbok and Arcanine as options) and also turned off Trade Evo's so I can use Golem and Machamp.

Name: Disturb Not The Harmony Game: Blue Monosize Class: XS Planned team: Spoiler:
|
Okay, finished.
Long story short: team worked as planned. Took a few retries on Rival, but went through all right. Enemy PIKA (L40 Raichu) [TMs used: Thunderbolt] Enemy MOTH (L43 Venomoth) Enemy RAT (L42 Raticate) [TMs used: Water Gun, Blizzard] Enemy MOLE (L46 Dugtrio) [TM used: Rock Slide] + Charmander (HM04), DUX (HM01, HM02), and Poliwag (HM03) Fairly typical run. Venomoth took advantage of Lance's AI, and Raichu Bolted everything weak to Electric. Dugtrio annihilated everything, and Raticate acted as backup if that failed. Fun little challenge. I find it amusing that I steamrolled the League with Pokemon less than a meter tall. |
