Playing With Rep?

I have noticed around the forums that many quizes are bribing people to take part for prizes of rep and i see newbies always asking for rep should there be a rules that rep is given for good or bad posts or a good memeber or bad insted of prizes for entering some quiz

It is a general rule of thumb, as it has always been, but we can't keep track of every pm and request outside of pc for rep :/
If, however, people are giving rep away as a 'prize' for nothing much, then report it :3

Points are being given way on a thread called Mega Quiz

If anyone doesn't like rep, they can just turn it off ^^; rep really isn't a big deal :/ the only nice part is reading the comments

Kira May 17th, 2005 9:28 AM

I agree with Claire, the comments are the nicest thing, If you get good rep but no comment then what's the deal?

Freenaturearts May 17th, 2005 9:43 AM

I'v been asked a few times by ruka(will not say full name for that is for the reporting threwPM.) this exact statment:
Hey can you give me rep, I really need some.

Me: Sure I'll just scan you'r posts
Ruka: Have you given it yet?
Me: no i need to find a reasonable post to put it on.
Ruka: Just put it on any of them Thats what I do.
Me: Thats abusing the rep rules, I'm not going to do that. i'd rather look for a post that deserves it and if I dont find one I cant post good rep/
Ruka: I dont thik of it as abusing the rep.
Me: I know it is cause of sevral times people do it on a random post, I need to find one that deserves it.

I still havent given a good rep for it but I too have had problems with new people wanting rep points when they didint even deserve them.
The rep thing is being taken to seriosly ^^; It is just for fun and just cause they break the rule doesint meen they should be banned for it or anything, they just need commen sense O_O!.

Claire May 17th, 2005 9:46 AM

Ya, that's just kinda sad when people try like that :/ it means nothing if it's fake..people won't respect you more from getting fake rep..

Freenaturearts May 17th, 2005 9:54 AM

:nods: I'm proud of the reputation I got cause I never asked for it and I never begged for a single one. I just got active and helped people o.o Also gave requests and became a good poster but actualy makeing sense ^^;;
When people do that to the rep they arnt really earning anything, not even a ounce of joy o_o Though its nice at first it ends up making you feel bad laiter on when all you'r reps are spam T_T.

How exactly does that solve anything? o_o; All it does is hide the person's reputation from others.

Freenaturearts May 17th, 2005 10:00 AM

It hids it causeing people to not know you'r rep in a sense deleteing it from peoples veiw gets rid of any more reputation people try to give. It helps in getting the subject solved and if people just dont like what reputation is comming to this stands to reason.

Porygon May 17th, 2005 10:06 AM

Actually, mwar, for some reason when I disabled rep for awhile, I came back and I had a bunch more after a period of getting none O_O;;

But yeah, I'm really stingy giving out rep 'cause I wait 'till I see something worthwhile before I do, mwar ^_^

Kyogre-chan May 17th, 2005 10:07 AM

No no, you misunderstand. Claire here is telling people who don't like the reputation system in general to hide their reputation from others, which solves nothing.

That aside, I guess all you can do in those situations is report. =\

Kira May 17th, 2005 10:49 AM

"Use the Legendary Report Button" That should be PC's number one Guideline XD

Kyogre-chan May 17th, 2005 10:54 AM

Nicely put. XD

Or, in contradiction, you could always bad rep the person asking for and/or giving abusive reputation. o_O That, my friends, is proper usage of the system.

Kylie-chan May 17th, 2005 11:53 PM

Exactly.
I think I'll lock the rep-giving-away quiz in FTiP then.

Claire May 18th, 2005 5:46 AM

We've dealt with this before, tyler *sigh*
There are people who give fake rep, but can we patrol them all? Unfortunately, no.
There are still people out there who enjoy rep for their comments, who do not use it only for judging their rep against others, and who form opinions of other people based on who they are, not their rep.
If people have a problem with not liking see others with fake rep, then just turn off your own. With other people's, it's only a couple of dots you see on other people's profiles, it's not a big deal :/
