What are your favorite things about G/S/C?

Among all the negativity here lately about G/S/C, I figured we needed something more positive. Share your favorite things about Generation II that intrigued you. It can be something very small or something larger about the games.

Radiating March 18th, 2017 8:52 AM

Day & Night was a nice feature.

J-Pom March 18th, 2017 11:55 AM

The addition of the Dark and Steel types.

Green Jerry March 20th, 2017 4:00 PM

Day & Night and Shiny Pokémon.

Desert Stream~ March 20th, 2017 7:02 PM

Shiny pokemon and the Dark/Steel types.

Two regions is the best part for me. They introduced a lot of my favorite Pokemon. The starters might not be great competitive pokemon but they all have great designs. The legends look excellent as well. I also think that the elite four is really difficult and I think that's a really good thing. I've played Gold and Silver and Heart Gold and Soul Silver so much and I still have trouble sometimes. Also Red is really epic. Is there anything else like that in other games? Finding him and seeing a level 81 Pokemon for the first time that belonged to a character in the game was actually really incredible for me as a youngster.

As far as things that were introduced there are a ton.
A Pokemon being able to hold an item.
Breeding
Dark and Steel types.
Shinies
Pokemon genders.
Moves like Protect, Outrage, Megahorn, Pain Split, Spikes, Extreme Speed, Mega Drain and Sunny Day.
The first time you could play as a girl.
Friendship
SPECIAL stat was split to Special Attack and Special Defense.

Their post-main game is undoubtedly the best. You get to explore an entire region.

Plus, this gen introduces my second most favorite Pokémon, two great types, and the day-night cycle.

Hermione Granger March 24th, 2017 7:14 PM

Loved having 2 regions to explore and the new Pokemon.

Rhetoric7 March 27th, 2017 11:15 AM

Simply put, the pokemon! They were some of the best of any region, and for the longest time Ho-oh was one of my favourite pokemon of all time

Lunar March 27th, 2017 12:24 PM

Day and night cycle, amazing region and travelling back to Kanto!

Supa_Furai March 29th, 2017 8:51 AM

I really liked the Day/Night feature, being able to choose a girl (Crystal) as your Trainer. I liked the fact that Team Rocket came back and all, as well as the Rival and their music.

My favorite thing about G/S/C would be the full-color graphics that take full advantage of the Game Boy Color's capabilities (as limited as they were considering the era Generation II was released in). The full-color display was even better once you got to Kanto, as limited as that region was in Gen II (Even the rest of the world's releases of Yellow were limited to displaying a couple of shades of one color in the outside-of-battle overworld and even in battle, and in battles, Pokémon and trainer sprites had similar display limitations.)

They introduced my favorite pokemon, Skarmory.

I'm a huge fan of radios and I find the radio feature in Pokegear very fascinating.

Megan April 22nd, 2017 12:22 PM

- Celebi
- being able to put stuff on your select button
- multiple bag pages so you can actually store things without constantly having to run to the PC
- probably more stuff that I can't think of

Flowerchild April 22nd, 2017 2:41 PM

Two regions to explore, as well as a plethora of great features introduced all at once. Most of the feature changes have managed to stick around, too, which is more than can be said for a lot of the cool stuff introduced in later generations (following Pokémon, seasons).

Star Platinum April 23rd, 2017 7:41 PM

The music was always my favorite part of GSC, its my favorite soundtrack of the series

Ronintoad April 25th, 2017 4:19 AM

Introduced so many great Pokémon and arguably has the best post-Elite Four gameplay ever with the Kanto Region and Red.

Spyro April 26th, 2017 9:53 AM

In Crystal you could finally play as a girl! She's the Female Protag with the coolest design imo

Hands April 27th, 2017 6:51 AM

The whole aesthetic of the gen was amazing, and day and night was swell too

Cool_Porygon April 28th, 2017 2:37 AM

I wish they had kept the day/night cycle and being able to explore a previous region.

Alakazam17 April 28th, 2017 3:01 AM

My top three favourite aspects of the games were the following:

The introduction of Steel-types(which is my second favourite type after Psychic)
Finally being able to play as a girl(only in Crystal though)
The best postgame to date because we could return to Kanto. ^_^

tokyodrift April 28th, 2017 6:57 PM

I think playing as a female was a really huge thing, well for me it was anyway. I've always been a bit more attracted to feminine/female characters and this was just the thing the Pokemon games needed to make everyone feel more welcome imo.

LegendChu April 30th, 2017 12:40 AM

The D/N feature, a female protag as an additional option, but the best would be the introduction of Dark (& Steel) Types, because Psychics dominated in Gen I.

Pika Pika :chu:

AliceBlaze April 30th, 2017 6:06 AM

- Day/night
- Most of the Pokemon designs
- Playing as a girl in Crystal,
- Easier PC usage than R/B/Y
- Shiny Pokemon
- Visiting Kanto after the Pokemon league, giving the game more post story content than other games
