Counter that Pokémon! SM v.2

Since the other one kind of died off, rather than bump it I will just remake!

Counter that Pokémon! - Generation 7 Edition

Information

With the release of Gen 7, I thought it'd be great to bring back a classic game! Counter that Pokémon is essentially what it says--someone posts a Pokémon, the next person tries to counter the Pokémon, and then the next person tries to counter that Pokémon and so on and so forth! This is a fun way to test your overall game knowledge as well as to learn some of the crafty ways other people tries to counter certain threats.

Rules

  • The game requires you to post an appropriate counter to the Pokémon, not just a simple check. Learn the difference between a counter and a check by reading this in-depth explanation from Smogon. Failure to follow this rule will result in your post being called out, so keep this in mind!
  • As mentioned in the previous rule, if the previous poster fails to post a valid counter, you should call them out and post an appropriate counter to what they were countering.
  • OU Pokémon and below only, please. Here's the official banlist of SM OU. Ubers and above can counter almost anything due to their sheer power.
  • Assume that everything is one-on-one, so don't factor in entry hazard damage or luck-based strategies such as confusion.
  • Do not slash information into your Pokémon's moveset. This completely defeats the purpose of the game since you can't alter your Pokémon's moveset in an actual battle.
  • Try to post your set in a readable format. You can use Pokémon Showdown's export feature to easily create a readable moveset format.

Lanturn @Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
-Toxic
-Volt Switch
-Scald
-Heal Bell

Lanturn has nothing to fear from three out of four moves and can tank a minimum of six Dazzling Gleams. Meanwhile it can 3HKO with Scald or inflict Poison with Toxic.

Radiating April 10th, 2017 8:33 PM

Dragonite @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fly

Dragonite can tank Lanturn's hits to at least set up with one Dragon Dance, then proceed to Earthquake it.

gimmepie April 10th, 2017 8:51 PM

Skarmory @Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish
-Roost
-Stealth Rock
-Toxic
-Iron Head

Dragonite can't really touch Skarmory and whilst Skarmory can't really fight back it can whittle Dragonite away with Toxic and Roost.

punkysaur April 10th, 2017 10:41 PM

I asked skarmory who she doesn't want to face. She replied-

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Solar Beam
- Taunt

Chose Magma storm over lava plume to trap it

gimmepie April 10th, 2017 11:40 PM

Salamence @ Flynium Z
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
-Dragon Dance
-Fly
-Earthquake
-Outrage

The only move that does any real harm is Magma Storm which 3HKOs at best. Meanwhile Salamence OHKOs with EQ picking up that sweet Moxie boost.

Christos April 11th, 2017 2:53 AM

Don't want to post Skarmory again sooo...

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP/ 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Heavy Slam
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Even though its EVs are in Special Defence, due to its typing Salamence needs at least 3 turns to defeat it. HP Ice is a 2HKO with Heavy Slam also having an 80% to 2HKO as well.

gimmepie April 11th, 2017 3:14 AM

Volcanion @Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
-Flamthrower
-Steam Eruption
-Sludge Wave
-Hidden Power [Grass]

Takes pretty much anything Celesteela dishes out and then murders it with Flamethrower or Steam Eruption.

Christos April 11th, 2017 4:26 AM

Muk-Alola @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Poison Jab
- Shadow Sneak

Only Draco Meteor can hurt it significantly but that won't even 2HKO because of the attack drops. Knock Off OHKOs Latios.

Sirfetch’d April 11th, 2017 4:43 AM

Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 24 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power Ice
- U-turn

Takes minimal damage from Muk, especially after intimidate, and can easily pick up a kill with Earthquake.

0 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Muk-Alola: 378-446 (91.3 - 107.7%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Mobile Tsk April 11th, 2017 5:17 AM

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Toxic
- Roost
- Defog
- Brave Bird

Once Landorus-T's set is revealed to be a defensive set, Skarmory will wall it competely. Rocky Helmet discourages Landorus-T from using U-Turn throughout the match. With Lando-T's Impish nature and lack of investment in SpA, HP Ice damage can be easily Roosted off and Skarmory's quadruple resistance to U-Turn and immunity to Earthquake means it won't take much damage from Lando-T's moves at all. Skarmory's slow speed will allow it to move second when using Roost, preventing Earthquake from hitting a grounded Skarmory. Skarmory can then easily stall out Lando-T with Toxic + Roost.

Christos April 11th, 2017 5:26 AM

Magearna @ Assault Vest
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fleur Cannon
- Flash Cannon
- Aura Sphere
- Thunderbolt

Toxic has no effect and Brave Bird is a possible 7HKO. Thunderbolt takes care of Skarmory.

Sirfetch’d April 11th, 2017 5:28 AM

Marowak-Alola @ Thick Club
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shadow Bone
- Fire Punch
- Bonemerang
- Will-O-Wisp

Resists Magearna's 2 STABs and is immune to the latter two due to it's typing and ability, respectively. Can easily pick up a kill with Fire Punch or Bonemerang

Frozocrone April 11th, 2017 6:30 AM

Technically speaking Marowak-A is just a check, since Magearna can get a 2HKO with a combination of Flash Cannon on the switch in and Fleur Cannon when Marowak attacks - of which Fire Punch and Bonemerang fail to OHKO 100% of the time. But it's such a small probability as it involves high rolls on both Flash and Fleur Cannon (and no sane person keeps Magearna in) so I'll just counter Marowak.

https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/tapufini.gif
Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 192 Def / 16 SpD / 52 Spe
Calm Nature
- Taunt
- Nature's Madness
- Moonblast
- Hydro Pump

Misty Terrain neuters WoW. Shadow Bone has a ~44% chance to 2HKO and Fire Punch and Bonemerang don't even have a chance to 2HKO.

In return, Fini outspeeds and OHKO's with Hydro Pump.

Christos April 11th, 2017 6:51 AM

252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak-Alola Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 344-408 (94.7 - 112.3%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Fire Punch failing to OHKO and Magearna actually hitting with Flash Cannon on the switch and having both it and Fleur Cannon have high damage rolls is very unlikely.

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Synthesis

Megan April 11th, 2017 7:46 AM

Latios @ Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power Fire
- Recover

252+ SpA Venusaur Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Latios: 124-147 (41.1 - 48.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Psyshock vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 368-434 (102.5 - 120.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Sirfetch’d April 11th, 2017 7:56 AM

Tapu Lele @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Fire

Can switch in and either be immune, resist, or take small damage from either of the moves and OHKO in return with Moonblast.

Yeah, looking at my comment, I've worded that badly. I meant to say that the Magearna could theoretically beat that Marowak which made it a check, not a counter.

But anyway, that's neither here or there, because it's such a slim chance of happening.

Countering Tapu Lele:

Muk-Alola @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Poison Jab
- Shadow Sneak

Muk OHKO's with Poison Jab. Tapu Lele has a 99.9% chance to 4HKO

gimmepie April 11th, 2017 10:14 AM

Venusaur @Venusaurite
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 232 HP / 180 SpA / 80 SpD / 16 Spe
Modest Nature
-Giga Drain
-Sludge Bomb
-Synthesis
-Hidden Power [Fire]

M-Venu tanks everything Gigalith has and 2HKOs with Giga Drain, also recovering lost HP.

Sirfetch’d April 11th, 2017 11:01 AM

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock

Heatran can taunt Venusaur from using Synthesis and proceed to kill with Lava Plume. Venusaur cannot touch Heatran at all.

Octillery @ Choice Specs
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpA / 44 Spe

- Hydro Pump

- Energy Ball
- Ice Beam

Puny Heatran.

FireSnow April 11th, 2017 11:34 AM

Little out of the box on this one

Dat Bulk Tho (Porygon2) @ Normalium Z
Ability: Download
EVs: 196 HP / 84 SpA / 228 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Tri Attack
- Conversion
- Thunderbolt

OHKOs with +1 T-Bolt after Z-Conversion or if it gets the Download boost even, while outspeeding in normal conditions and tanking hits in a Trick Room setup.

Octillery really doesn't have a chance

wolf April 11th, 2017 12:03 PM

https://i.imgur.com/P3vZysz.gif
Escavalier @ Choice Band
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Iron Head
- Pursuit
- Knock Off

P2 fails to 2HKO and Escavalier 2HKOes back.

edit: Just realized that P2 could use Z-Conversion on the switch and use it again to get Ghost-typing and resist Megahorn. Meh, I'll leave this here anyway.

Sirfetch’d April 11th, 2017 12:30 PM

Magneton @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire

Magneton can switch in and survive any of the attacks then trap and kill with HP Fire.

pow

wolf April 11th, 2017 12:36 PM

I heard you like

Swampert @ Choice Band
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
