Biological Class Challenge
Biological Class Challenge Welcome! In this challenge you have to play with Pokémon that belong to the same biological class, like Mammals, Birds or Reptiles. Let's sail away in Darwin's boat! If you manage to finish the Challenge, your name will be put in the Champions' list. Rules 1. You must choose one of the classes listed below. You might use only Pokémon that are in the list of the class you choose. 2. You can't change your class during a game. 3. You can catch a Pokémon from a different class, if it evolves to one that belongs to your class. 4. HM Slaves that don't belong to the class you are playing with are allowed, as long as they don't battle. 5. Cheating to get a Pokémon you can't get normally in the game you're playing is allowed. 6. If the class you chose is not available among the starters of the game you're playing, you might choose what you want, but replace it for the first Pokémon that belongs to your class you find in the game. The Classes (Just for knowledge, not all the categories listed below are biological classes, since class has a specific meaning.) Because Mew gave birth to all types of Pokémon, it is in all classes. If Arceus is God, and God is nature, then Arceus also belongs to all classes. Some classifications may seem strange, but they all has an explanation. Azulmarill for example is in the Inorganic class, but it's there because it may be based on a beach ball. Some Pokémon are in more than one class, since they can be inspired in more than one kind of animal/creature/thing. Mammals Spoiler:

In the Darwin Challenge, you must play a game in each 7 regions, just like the Ultimate Challenge, but in this one you must use the living being classes from the least evolved to the most evolved. The order is: Plants & Fungi -> Arthropoda & Other Invertebrates -> Fish & Amphibians -> Reptiles -> Birds -> Mammals -> Humanshape In both Ultimate and Darwin Challenges, the order of the regions of the games you play doesn't matter. Guys, I changed the order of the Darwin challenge. Now Plants come before Arthropoda, what's more correct.

Class: Plants Game: Red Single/Ultimate/Darwin: Single I plan to blitz with Venusaur (Body Slam/Sleep Powder/Gen-1!Razor Leaf), so I hope to report back later today. Out of curiosity, since you mention cheating in unobtainable Pokemon, can you cheat in Elemental Stones (say, after four badges) if they're otherwise unobtainable before the E4? Gold/Silver has a real issue with this. |

Okay, thanks!
Plant run of Kanto completed with :t003: at L60. It was greatly aided by an interesting design choice in Gen 1 that, for all but the slowest Pokemon, Razor Leaf always crits. Unfortunately, the same design choice also results in Alakazam getting frequent criticals (due to its high speed), so the Champion battle took a few tries. Signing up for Johto now. I won't be able to get away with a solo this time... Username: Disturb Not The Harmony Class: Arthropoda & Other Invertebrates Game: Silver Single/Ultimate/Darwin: Single |

I'm back in Hoenn and I feel good. I chose Treecko to begin my journey with me once again and it's been a good companion like always. It's a good fighter too. It grew fast and protected me through our firs steps. We reached together Rustboro, and defeated Roxanne with relative ease, though I passed tense moments against that Nosepas of hers. At the end Elrond won, and evolved. Now it's a cool Grovyle. The Devon Corporation gave me a PokéNav for helping the Devon Corp. and now I'm taking a package from them through the sea to another city. But first I should stop by Dewford and give a guy named Steve a letter from the Corp.'s President... I'm probably going for the bonus "defeat Red", so not quite finished, but here's my entry through Elite Four. I've never had so much respect for a Parasect. Or a Beedrill.
It turns out I didn't need to hack in a Water Stone after all! In fact, I just got the legitimate Water Stone in Kanto. So much for my initial plans. {XD} Spoiler:
My party: Spoiler:
--------- Red has been defeated. Let's just say it involved a whole lot of Revives, a whole lot of Hyper Potions, and Spore. Honestly, I would have had to level much higher without it. Despite my initial conviction that Starmie would be the MVP of the run... I now have to give that title to Parasect. Starmie provided the power to actually score KOs in a timely fashion, but Parasect kept enabling my under-prepared, underleveled runs at major foes by swooping in with Quick Claw!Spore and stopping team-OHKOing Pokemon in their tracks. I never expected, when I started, to be able to defeat Red with a team of Bug Pokemon and a Staryu/Starmie riding shotgun. Not only did Parasect enable it, but it enabled it in one day-long dash without stopping to grind, expanding the team beyond three usable Pokemon, or taking any precautions beyond loading up on healing items at the local mart. Thanks, buddy. I'm never going to underestimate your species again. ~~Mush~~~~Needle~~~StarPKMN~Cruel Lord~~ ==L52=======L48======L52=====L22=== http://pkmn.net/sprites/silver/47.png* * http://pkmn.net/sprites/silver/15.png* *http://pkmn.net/sprites/silver/121.png* *http://pkmn.net/sprites/silver/73.png Silver complete! |

I started the game with Snivy as my starter pokemon and temporary team member. I grinded a bit to raise Snivy up to level 14. Then, I went to the Aspertia Gym to challenge Cheren for the Basic Badge, which I recieved after defeating Cheren. Later, I headed to Virbank City. There, I went to the Virbank Complex and caught Magnemite and Koffing as two of my official team members; I nicknamed Magnemite Tesla and Koffing Pneumonia. After healing my team and depositing Snivy in the PC at the Pokemon Center, I did more level grinding to make my team be at least level 15.
I challenged Roxie for the Toxic Badge, using Tesla for the fight. At the end, Tesla emerged victorious and I got the Toxic Badge. After the battle, I did a brief movie shoot at the Pokestar Studio. Later, I battled some Plasma grunts before heading out to Castelia City to earn the Insect Badge. I arrived at Castelia City, teamed up with my rival in the Castelia Sewers while fighting two Plasma Grunts, and challenged Burgh at the Castelia City gym to earn the Insect Badge. Afterwards, I headed to Nimbasa City for the Bolt Badge. On the way, I encountered and fought Colress for the first time. I grinded for hours and leveled up my team to at least level 35; Tesla evolved into Magneton and Pneumonia evolved into Weezing. I challenged Elesa and earned the Bolt Badge.

So between Persona 5 taking up massive chunks of my gaming time, feeling terrible for the past several days, and not knowing the Lapras you get from Silph Co is only Lv. 15 when you get it in Gen 1 (possibly also combined with the fact that I tend to only update when I actually finish the run outside nuzlockes), I finished the run. Believe it or not, I actually beat the Elite Four first try with an underleveled team thanks to the almighty power of heal spamming and getting two lucky freezes during Lance for more heal spamming. Sounds like a successful run to me.
The Reptile Room (Final) Now with this run completed, I shall go and plan out which game and which biological class I will tackle next.https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen1/redblue_gb/009.png Bowser Jr. (Blastoise) Lv. 55 Moves: Ice Beam, Bite, Hydro Pump, Surf So you know how I mentioned Lapras earlier even though I started with Squirtle? Well, it's a funny story. I originally wanted to use both Lapras and Bowser Jr. here for more type coverage because Lapras can learn Psychic and Thunderbolt along with Ice Beam by level up, but by the time I got to Silph Co, I hardly had need for it. Bowser Jr. did straggle a little behind Boa sometimes because I had two Water moves (I had Bubblebeam until Hydro Pump), but when the Elite Four came along, Bowser Jr put in the most work out of my three man squad. Out of all of them, I'd say he's my MVP. https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen1/redblue_gb/024.png Boa (Arbok) Lv. 53 Moves: Rock Slide, Dig, Mega Drain, Strength Cue the "wow, you are so unoriginal with nicknames" comments. Anyway, Boa was a chore to raise up at first when it only had Wrap. When he finally got Bite, we were in business and Boa slowly rose up towards being...mildly decent? Rock Slide during lategame was nice for the Gyarados and the Ice types that Bowser Jr. couldn't kill, and since he was the fastest member of the team, he proved to be useful. https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen1/redblue_gb/112.png First Ever (Rhydon) Lv. 48 Moves: Tail Whip, Earthquake, Submission, Strength What do I say about this one? The lack of good TMs in Gen 1 combined with the Rhyhorn line's lacking level up moves and extremely low speed made it hard to use this one. I sure spent some time in the Safari Zone trying to catch him because I wanted to use a Rhydon in a run because I'm always denied the use of Golem in recorded lockes because they always die before they evolve. Nuzlockes aside, he was mostly just there. |

I went to Dewford to deliver a letter to Steven, but I found out there was a Gym there. I made my way to the leader, but Brawly was too tough. I fell. I decided to heal my wounds training my Grovyle while I crossed a completely dark cave to meet Steven. Colliding with the walls, I made my way to the deepest side of the cave (catching Aron during this walk), and found Steven there. After giving him his letter, I went to Slateport to overlevel (does this word exist?) my Elrond, so it could defeat Brawly's Makuhita. Then I made the poor Mr. Briney take me through the sea again to Dewford. My strategy worked, Elrond defeated Makuhita with its level advantage. The next step in my travel was going back to Slateport. After giving the goods to Captain Stern, I went north to Muaville City where I fought at another Gym. The battle against the Leader, Wattson, was hard, mainly because all my moves were not effective against his Magneton. I trained my Aron more and challenged him again. Mithril made a good damage, and Elrond's Leaf Blade finished the rest of his team. The sympathetic grandpa gave me the Dynamo Badge. From Mauville I had three ways to go. I decided to pick the North road and see what I will find. So, fun fact. Gen 4 is my least favorite generation outside HG/SS, but that's not important right now. We're here to sign up for another helping of biological challenging times.
Username: BlissyMKW Class: Inorganic Game: Platinum Single/Ultimate/Darwin: Single Unfortunately, due to how Gen 4 can be along with my planned team, I'll have to solo run the first three gyms with Turtwig until I can get the gift Porygon from Veilstone. Looks like it's gonna be another game of "rely on luck to win" until Veilstone. Hopefully, I can at least get Torterra (or close to getting it) by then. |
North from Mauville, I had a lot a of adventure. I defeated Team Magma, impeding them from waking up the volcano. There, I got another member for my team, Sauron the Torkoal. Many routes ahead, near Meteor Falls entrance, I caught a snake, Gollum the Seviper. My team was much better now. Past Meteor Falls, I got back to Rustboro, completing a circle with my wandering. Expecting to find something in the east, I crossed Rusturf Tunnel, opening the blocked way and receiving Strenght as a "thank you" gift from a guy who wanted to meet his girlfriend at the other side. After visiting my friend Wally I headed back to Mauville. I was certain I should go left from there now, but I couldn't use Surf yet to cross the river blocking the way. There was something I missed. I headed back to Mt. Chimney and descended the yet unexplored Jagged Pass. When I got down I saw myself at Lavaridge. Yeah, I had forgotten the small city with naural hot pools. There was a Gym there. Of course, I had to challenge it before going forward in Hoenn. I took the challenge imediately. Flannery defeated me in the first time, but I had a disadvantage, cause Gollum fainted after battling the trainers in the gym. After losing to her a couple more of times, I defeated her whole team with a five turns strike of Rollout, after just raising Mithril one level. I also evolved Elrond, but his force wasn't used in the battle. Right after leaving the Gym I received the Go-goggles, so it was time to explore the desert. I defeated all the trainers there and then I had no clue of where to go next. I only realized I was going up against a fierce massive magma beast with grass types when I was halfway through. Not too bad, though. Found a lot of seedots early on so I traded one for a Lotad and yay, got a Tengu and a french Kappa. The gym leaders were piece of cake, IIRC it was harder in Emerald, My guys suffered a bit from Crobat and Gyarados, but that aside everything went OK. Even if my team was only grass type, they had some moves and second types that helped a lot. Digger Grovyle was a thing. All the HMs too were placed in my team members, and discarded later on. I trained eight pokemon, Tropius and Cacturne not featured, they all got around the same level and I don't remember grinding, but to get Spore. In the end Primal Groudon wasn't a problem at all, however, he took out my Ludicolo because of reasons (I was unaware of his ability). The elife tour was pretty smooth and I gladly made a satisfying battle against Steven, using a matching pokemon in style to defeat each of his. So I'm going for Delta Episode now.

Well, I had 4 badges and no idea on where to go now. Then I remembered I had a father and ran back to Petalburg, because he said to me that after I had four badges he would battle me, though I had forgotten this. The battle was tough, but I won in the end, with a bit of luck and a pack of strength. I went to Mawille then, where the granpa asked me to do a favor to him at New Mawille. After defeating daddy I received the HM 03 Surf, and caught a Marill to use it. Because of this I was able to surf at the south of Mawille and get to new Mawille (not without stopping by a little island and reading a sign saying “Team Aqua was Here”, that was covered by another message: “Team Magma Rules”. Ah, I have to say, I didn't remember Surf music was so wonderful. It makes you feel you're going into a wonderful adventure. New Mawille had a complicated security system where you had to step on buttons on the floor that opened and closed doors, making you get stuck there with no way back, letting you without option but keep going. It was also packed up with annoying Voltorbs and Magnemites that jumped at you from everywhere. Well, I turned off the defective generator as I promised to Wattson, and went back to Mawille and from there to the east. Crossed the water body and arrived at the other side of Hoenn. Ther next part was wilder, with a lot of water and green. There were narrow bridges that I had to cross with my bike, grass patches that were taller than me, a city at the top of trees, and a savage weather, with lots of rain. I caught a Kecleon, a Pokémon that changes its type depending on the attacks it received. Winona was easy, and I've got my next badge. On the way to the next city, I saw that bandits of Team Aqua talking about doing something evil at Mt. Pyre. I might have a look on what they'll do there. In the next part of my journey I nearly didn't level the former members of my team (Elrond the Sceptile and Mithril the Lairon), who were also the strongest. On the other side, Gollum the Seviper had a great increase in its level and Merry the Kecleon had some improving too. This all happened during a hunt for Team Aqua and Team Magma at Mt. Pyre and the events that happened consecutively. Unfortunately, when I got to the mount the two organizations had already fled, having done their harm. A sympathetic old couple told me a lot about what was going on. The Teams took two orbs, that would be used to awake two gigantic beasts from their sleep, and their power could bring a lot of destruction. I had no choice other than follow the trail of the Teams. I first went to MT. Chimney, were Team Magma had a secret base. I managed to get in using a distinctive one of their grunts had left behind. Their base was inside the damn volcano, and because of this it was incredibly hot inside. I defeated the Team Magma grunts that appeared in my way one by one, and finally got to the Magma Admin Tabitha. After defeating him with honor, he tells me that Maxie is about to wake Groudon. I ran to the place where Maxie was talking to Groudon, asleep in a pool of lava, with the Blue Orb in his hand. Ground reacts to the sound of Maxie's voice and wake up, but it doesn't obey him at all. Grodon jumps of Maxie's head and leave the volcano. Maxie becomes totally annoyed and flees, with all of the Team Magma Members. I had a big problem now. Groudon was already awaken, but Team Aqua was still with the other orb and planning to wake the other beast. If that happens, the situation would be worse than ever since the battle of the beasts in the past. I went to Lilycove in the wings of my HM Slave Wingull. Team Aqua was installed in a sea cave near the shore. I went there, but two guards blocked my way. I was about to fight them when they told me that the other members of the Team had went away to steal a submarine. I immediately remembered the submarine that was being constructed at Slateport. I flew there the fastest I was able. There was a big event at the front of the harbor. A crowd surrounded Captaind Stern, that was answering an interview from TV. A voice with a megaphone announced that Team Aqua was taking the submarine with them. I couldn't follow them, so I flew back to Lilycove, and if I'm lucky I'll catch this fish at its home. Oh, what a strange metaphor, maybe I'm spending too much time with this water-loving madmen. So I finally got around to starting the run. Sure, I did slack off a bit (or a lot), but is that really important when I'm showing I've actually gotten something done. I wanted to wait until I got another member of my planned team before I updated, so here we are, at Eterna City. I got my second team member and I just gotta raise her up before I do the second gym so she can at least be a bit caught up in levels.
Team Ruby https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen4/platinum/388.png Banzai (Grotle) Lv. 25 @ Nothing Nature: Calm Ability: Overgrow Moves: Bite, Curse, Absorb, Razor Leaf https://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen4/platinum/299.png Roxanne (Nosepass) Lv. 14 @ Nothing Nature: Sassy Ability: Sturdy Moves: Tackle, Harden, Rock Throw Grotle is technically viable because it evolves into Torterra, and Nosepass was planned. You can probably see where I'm going so far with this team, but it's not complete yet and won't be for a little while. My next team member isn't even coming until Veilstone, and after that when I get Surf. Rotom is a possible mon I can get, but with no access to it's other forms, it might be a waste. |
Final Team Spoiler:
I finally finished this challenge. It was fun to play. A reptile team in emerald was a well balanced team - well, at least most of the time. I read about strategy while playing, and it helped me defeat the Elite Four without having to overlevel my whole team. I defeated Sidney and Phoebe with ease, but Glacia's and Walrein was a trouble because almost my whole team was weak to either Water or Ice (This is the same reason Wallace was hard to beat too, but I'll talk about it later). But with a little help of Toxic and Swagger, and sending Rayquaza at the right moments to use its Thunder I managed to win. The battle against Drake was less dramatic. I can't say the same about Wallace. I ran out fo Hyper Potions and his Ice Beamers made a big damage to my team. I had only one pokmon left. I used Revive to bring another one back, but the one in battle was knocked out. After some trouble, I finally sent in Rayquaza and it wasn't defeated in that turn. That gave me the chance to use Thunder to get rid of the Ice Beamers. After they were gone, I saw the way to victory. That's it. Another game finished with sweat sliding on my forehead. :) https://i.imgur.com/f5YJ4CO.png I'll keep this team in my heart. I've added the new UB's in the list. Assembly is in the Inorganic class, Burst in the Humanshape and Adhesive is in the Unclassifiable. I also added Lunala to the Mammals, since I figured out she is based on a bat. I also added Tornadus, Thudurus and Landorus's Therian Forms to the classes they fit, since I only had put them in the Humanshape because I considered only the Incarnate form. Now if you choose Reptile, for example, you can have Therian Thundurus in your team. That's all folks, see you. EDIT: Changed all Ultra Beasts except Buzzwole and Pheromosa, who are obviously based on bugs to Myths and Unclassifiable, cause they are too much alien to our nature. Also added separate categories to Fungi, Fish and Amphibian, for those who want a bigger chalenge. |
This looks like fun, and I've always wanted an excuse to use a Clefable and a Milotic, so here we go.

I switched my playthrough over to Nova Sun, the hack by Dio Vento, because I like the greater scope of pokemon availability throughout the game. Variety is the spice of life and all that.
I started my playthrough with Popplio, as Primarina is on the list. I had to hunt for a while, but I finally found a Happiny on Route 1 and a few ghosts in the Hau'oli Cemetery. My Happiny was holding an oval stone when I caught her, so I was able to evolve her pretty quickly.
