The Anime-Style Challenge (Revival)

This challenge takes its inspiration from the challenge that was originally posted here, https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=365891 ,but was locked due to inactivity. The challenge is the many rules that are meant to create an experience in the games similar to the journey the anime characters go on. Note: if you want to do this challenge it may help to look at the original thread, but I am slightly altering some aspects of the challenge for this version, to make it more interesting.

RULES:
Spoiler:
1. Bro for Life: Your partner and best friend on your journey. The first Pokémon you obtain after your starter, or your starter itself, will be your “Bro for Life”. (Think Pikachu, or Iris’ Axew.)
You may wait a couple routes before catching something, or you can even import an egg to be your BFL, or you can use a randomizer or other tool to replace a starter with your BFL, but you must obtain it before the first Gym and cannot catch anything before you get it.
Once you get your BFL, your starter can no longer be used against any trainers, unless your starter is your BFL. HOWEVER, you may use your starter to train up your BFL against wild Pokémon after getting it.
Your Bro for Life cannot evolve, and must travel with you at all times.

2. You can only catch one Pokémon per area (but it does not have to be your first encounter). It is recommended (not mandatory, but recommended) that you have 10 (14 upon reaching Kanto if playing a Johto game) or fewer Pokémon at all times.
It is up to you as to how you want to handle any Safari Zone, as well as places that have multiple areas (i.e. Pinwheel Forest in BW, Reversal Mountain in BW2, Route 8 in XY).

3. Evolution:
Each possible evolution has a 5/12 chance of happening.
Whether or not a pokemon is allowed to evolve is determined by a random number generator. If you catch a Vulpix and the evolution fails to go through, too bad. You have a Vulpix forever.
If you have something that can evolve twice (like Charmander), and the first evolution fails, you may try it one more time (but you cannot attempt to go for a Charizard). That rule is in place to keep the 5/12 number intact.
Pokémon immune to this rule: Magikarp, baby Pokémon, early game Bug-type lines (i.e. Caterpie, Wurmple, Scatterbug). However, for baby Pokémon like Budew and Azurill, after they evolve, then you RNG for their chance of evolution.
Also, you may use the Universal Randomizer to enable certain evolutions if necessary. For example, if playing FRLG on an emulator, you can enable impossible evos to allow trade evolutions, or enable the national dex to allow second and thrid gen evolutions, such as Crobat.

4. Departure:
For each new numbered route you enter after the first Gym, there is a 3/16 chance that one of your team members will leave, again determined by random number generator. This rule is to simulate the occasions in the anime where trainers and their pokemon decide to part ways for some reason (think Bye bye Butterfree).
If that happens, you must select a member in your current team to release or permanently box, not counting your Bro for Life. Or you can RNG the pokemon that leaves as well. This discourages you from keeping one trash pokemon around to get rid of.

5. No healing items in battle. This is to go along with the anime, which doesn't use them at all. (Although the OP used this rule because he "was a glutton for punishment".)

6. All Pokémon can only learn one TM move for the entirety of the game. The exception is that if the Pokémon has evolved twice while owned by you, you may teach it 3 TM moves.
HM moves do not count towards this limit, nor do TM moves learned by level.
As for Move Tutor moves in Platinum or Black 2/White 2, it may learn one of those as well.
So, for example, say you're playing Black 2/White 2 and are using a Frillish. You could give it Blizzard (TM), Giga Drain (move tutor), Surf (HM) and Ominous Wind.
Additionally, if you import in an egg to be your Bro for Life, you may give it one egg move.

7. Consecutive moves:(Optional)
You must use three different moves on each Pokémon’s first three turns in a battle. If you are early in the game and your first Pokémon only has two moves, it is excluded from this limit.
You can never use a move three times in a row.
(So you’d have to do something like ABCCBCCBCCB and so on.)

8. Gym Battles:
You must begin a Gym battle with the same number of Pokémon as the Gym Leader. You may deposit your Bro for Life before a Gym battle if you do not wish to use it in said battle.
It is up to you how you want to deal with the Elite Four (since the Champion always has six Pokémon).

9. No held items, except for those that affect experience/EVs.(Optional)
To make that more specific, the following items are allowed whether you use this rule or not: Amulet Coin, Macho Brace, Power items (Bracer, Anklet, etc), Exp. Share, Lucky Egg.
Since Gym Leaders/Elite Four in most games give their aces berries, you may give one of your Pokémon a Berry when facing them.

However, as a mercy rule for XY players, the Exp. Share and Pokémon-Amie will be allowed. The former to help during training (and just because), and the latter because Amie emulates what the anime does between Pokémon and trainer bonds including dodging attacks and hanging on.

10. In games/hacks with more than one region, you may only bring your BFL to that region with you.
This is to represent how Ash, from Hoen onward, only brought Pikachu with him to any new region. You may bring back your old Pokemon for battle facilities or any other challenges you feel merit it (Ash brought back old pokemon for League tourneys and the Battle Frontier).

11. Tweaking rules. (Optional)
If you ever feel like one of the rule(s) are a bit too much, you may add some sort of alteration. This could be to either simulate the Anime further, or if you ever have problems during a game. You may choose to completely ignore a rule if you are really opposed to it.

Game: Soul Silver
Optional Rules/Tweaks?: I HAVE to hatch any eggs I receive and revive any fossils I receive. I'll also use the randomizer to give myself my BFL as a starter and enable evolutions. And my Bro For Life will be.... VULPIX!!! Yeah I know he's catchable in this game but he's so far down the line it makes more sense to get him as a starter. For balance purposes he'll replace Cyndaquil. Plus Vulpix is awesome.

I'll post updates when I can, and I'll try to write it as more of a story, to fit with the anime theme.

I saw you post about this in the challenge ideas and I decided to start it on my own.

Optional Rules/Tweaks?: Allowed to heal in battle, as long as the Pokémon that is being healed is not currently battling. This makes more sense because even though they don't show potions, often times Ash would retrieve a Pokémon and when it went back out they would say "It seems that ______ has recovered energy!" or something like that. Also, my BFL is a Growlithe, kinda amusing because yours is a Vulpix

UPDATE #1
Spoiler:
Went to meet my neighbor the Pokemon Prof. to finally get my own pokemon. I chose a female Vulpix and named her Kyuubi. We're both loners so we stick together and keep to ourselves.
Prof needs me to run an errand so I head west after grabbing my pokegear. In the next town over an old man gives me a tour and a fresh pair of shoes. As we go along Kyuubi and I don't waste a second, training as we go. There's something oddly therapeutic about destroying everything in our path with ember. Mr Pokemon has an egg for us and Oak is visiting him, and he gives us a pokedex. As we're head back, Elm calls us and it sounds something like "AAAHAHA AFKDGNd HELp ME" so we decide to head back. We then encounter our rival, here on referred to as Jackass. Despite having a Totodile Kyuubi is 2 levels superior and burns him, so we steal a win. We get back and SURPRISE, he's the thief Elm mentioned. Now that the tutorial quest is over, we grab some pokeballs and officiall start our journey!!

UPDATE #2
On our way back to Cherrygove, Kyuubi and I add two new members to our team: Specs the Hoothoot, and Joplin the Geodude. Specs was captured when she started chasing us down the road. Joplin was in a larger group of Geodudes and was being bullied, so we brought her along. After some team building excersises (read: grinding), we set off and reached Violet City. We'll begin training tomorrow and then take on our first challenge: Sprout tower. (Also, all of my pokemon are female. Girl power I guess)

Team so far:
Spoiler:

:t163: Specs lv 7 (Tackle, Foresight,Growl, Hypnosis)
:t074: Joplin Lv 8 (Tackle, Mud Sport, Defense Curl, Rock Polish)

EDIT: Forgot to mention both Specs and Jolpin can evolve. Haven't decided yet whether Joplin can evolve a second time.

Pilot:
Spoiler:
I set off on my journey with Neto, my bestfriend whom I hatched from an egg. After Serena kindly showed Shauna and I how to catch Pokémon and gifted us some Pokeballs, I went off into the forest. I found a Pikachu stuck in a tree being attacked by some Beedrill. We fended off the Beedrill and caught the Pikachu. I decided to call him Ryu. When we got out of the forest, I held a practice battle between Ryu and Neto. Neto won because he was more experienced, but Ryu put up a fight. I was confident in his abilities to help take out Viola's Pokémon. I ended up changing my clothes into something more comfortable and then went off to fight Viola. Some girl named Rinka stopped me at the door, though. She challenged me to a battle, offering me a pair of new skates if I beat her. She only had a Zigzagoon, which I beat with ease. I then went into the gym. I took on and beat all of the trainers in there easily, but I had one more challenge before I got my badge. Viola didn't prove to be that tough of a challenge, but that was mostly thanks to Ryu. Ryu went out first, taking on her Surskit. Surskit would have been a huge problem had we not had Ryu. Thankfully, Ryu used Thundershock and dispatched Surskit. The battle wasn't over yet, though. She sent out her ace, Vivillon. To counter that, I sent out my ace, Neto. Neto went into a hard fought battle with Vivillon, but in the end Neto came out on top. After a good battle, I had finally received my first badge, the Bug Badge.

Episode 2
Spoiler:
In the Previous Episode: Our hero set off on his adventure with Neto, a Growlithe that he hatched from an egg. He caught Ryu the Pikachu, and took on the gym leader of Santalune City, earning his Bug Badge. And now, onto your regularly scheduled episode: As I left Santalune City, I was stopped by Viola's sister. She struck up conversation, eventually giving me the Exp. Share. As I made it through the next route, I was stopped by two people claiming to be the Professor's Assistants as I was about to enter Lumiose. The girl's name was Sina, and the boy's was Dexio. They went off about the fairy typing, which I already knew quite a bit about. We had fairy types back in Kanto, so it wasn't anything new. Anyways, I went on to the Professor's lab where we battled. He gifted me a Bulbasaur, which I promptly named Saur. When I was about to leave the lab, some man called Lysandre was talking to Sina. I would see him again a bit later after meeting up with Serena in a café. My team and I worked our way to Camphrier Town. We stopped by Shabboneau Castle to learn about Mega Evolution, but we learned nothing new. We decided to move on to Ambrette Town, but we were blocked by a Snorlax. Shauna and I then went on to Parfum Palace, where we helped the owner find his Furfrou. He gave the Pokeflute to the man who would clear the way of Snorlax. We caught the Snorlax and nicknamed her Blubber. Too bad she had the ability Immunity instead of Thick Fat, but the nickname still made sense. I sent her to Professor Sycamore, as I didn't want to raise too many Pokémon. We battled along side Serena against Tierno and Trevor. Saur really shined in that battle. Eventually we made our way to Ambrette Town, with Saur evolving along the way. The fossil researchers sent Serena and I to go find their colleague in Glittering Cave. While finding my way through the cave, I found a lost and injured Machop. I nursed him back to health and he decided to join my party. I decided to name him Protein, as I thought the name was fitting. I knew that he would help with the gym coming up, so he was a welcome addition. At the end of the cave, I had to fight along Serena against some strange-dressing group called Team Flare. We eventually found the scientist who gifted us each a fossil. I chose the Jaw fossil, which I restored when I went back to Ambrette. It turned out to be a Tyrunt, which we named Mars. He joined our team and I can see that he will be a useful member. He could eventually become one of the strongest Pokémon I'll ever see. We made our way to Cyllage City, obtaining a green bike by answering a question. I went up to the gym where I met Grant. He gave me the HM Strength, and I thanked him for it. I then proceeded to challenge the gym. Saur helped with all of the trainers, but he wouldn't be there for the final battle. I had Neto and Protein for that. I knew how he used the fossil Pokémon. I went up to challenge him, and took him on. It looked to be an intense match, but I didn't realize how lucky I would get. He led with Amaura and I with Neto. Neto had a fighting type attack that I was hoping would knock him out with one attack. Luckily, Neto attacked first and Amaura's massive weakness to fighting types was exploited. We took Amaura out with ease, as it didn't even get to attack. I then switched to Protein for the main event. This battle was gonna be a lot more intense. Tyrunt went first and used Stomp on my Machop. I had Protein use Low Sweep, though, and tripped up Tyrunt. This did significant damage, but another one wouldn't be enough. I told Machop to use Karate Chop, and because Tyrunt was knocked down, it did just enough to knock it out. And with that, I left the gym with my head held high, and another badge in my case. The Cliff Badge would be only my second of many.

To be fair, most of them are quite decent. I just kinda wish I could get rid of Machop. He can't evolve at all and I only got him for the gym, and I don't really want to box him

Well if you roll for a departure at any point, Machop might decide to take a vacation ;)

In the Last Episode:
Spoiler:
Our hero gained four new friends sending one back to Sycamore, and had a rather intimate moment with Shauna which, if our hero was being completely honest, he wishes was with Serena instead. Our hero should just take what he can get. It's not often that he interacts with a girl. Our hero also received his second gym badge after a well fought battle versus Grant. And now onto your regularly scheduled episode.

Episode Three:
Spoiler:
Our hero made his way north to Geosenge Town, unfortunately running into Team Flare on the way. Luckily, Team Flare was easily defeated, and our hero caught up with Serena at the town for a brief moment. As he left the town, a strange girl named Korrina challenged him to a battle with her two Lucario. Neto and Protein dispatched them, however, and he was on his way. Unfortunately, some Pokémon were bullying the smaller ones on the next route. This angered Protein so much that he burst out of his Pokeball and fought off the bullies. As they were about to leave, the bullies came back but with more. Protein again fought them off. Protein felt very protective of these Pokémon, and our hero could see that. He offered Protein the chance to stay there and become the protector of the smaller Pokémon. Protein agreed to stay. Our hero thanked Protein for all the memories, and after a tear-jerking final goodbye, they were off into Glittering Cave. Glittering Cave was not a very long journey, but the experience proved useful. Once in Shalour City, our hero made his way to the place of the Mega Evolution Guru. He met up with the rest of his friends and they all caught up with each other and their progress on their journeys. The Guru interrupted their talk with the fact that he decided to give them a Mega Bracelet, but that he only had one. Tierno, Trevor, and Shauna immediately nominate our hero and Serena. They unanimously decide to battle for it. It was intense, but our hero came out on top. He expected more, but he did have more Pokémon. The two trainers congratulate each other on a good fight, and our hero went to battle the gym so he would finally earn his third badge, and the Mega Bracelet. Let's go to the battle right now. I had left Mars behind. He would be weak against the fighting type attacks and I didn't want to put him through the pain. Korrina sent out her Mienfoo first and I sent out Neto. The fight was over quick, with Neto only needing two attacks to finish the job. Not to say it wasn't intense. Mienfoo did quite a bit of damage against Neto, and I gave him a break for the next fight. Machoke was next, and this is what scared me most. I sent out Saur to fight. Surprisingly, this battle was probably going to be the easiest. Saur didn't take any damage, and Machoke was down. The next one was going to be up to Ryu, though. It was Ryu vs Hawlucha. Hawlucha attacked first, doing quite a bit of damage. Ryu attacked afterwards, doing more damage, but not knocking it out. Hawlucha followed it up with another attack, leaving Ryu with just a strand of health left. That was all he needed though. He barely held on and then sent a jolt of electricity into Hawlucha, knocking it out. And with that, I went up to meet Korrina at the top of the tower, with my badge in hand. There, I got my mega bracelet and then fought her alongside a Lucario. I came out on top after a nerve wracking match. The Lucario I used decided to join me on my journey. I sent Azure, as I called him, back to the professor so he could study him. I might need him later in my journey, but for now, I hope he enjoys life with the professor. I then set my sights to Coumarine City.

Spoiler:
Our hero earned his third badge and gained the mega bracelet, receiving Azure the Lucario along the way. And now onto your regularly scheduled episode.

Episode 4:
Spoiler:
As I made my way to Coumarine City, Serena stopped me at the gate. She gave me an HM for Surf. I didn't have a Pokémon that could use it, but it was thoughtful nonetheless. I thanked her and continued my journey. On the next route, I ran into a man who gave me a Lapras. He said that it saved him from drowning and he wanted to show it the world. He couldn't do that, though, so he gave her to me. I named her Umi, for the sea. She would help on my next couple of fights. She also gave me the option to Surf, which I needed to get to Coumarine. When I got to Coumarine City, Professor Sycamore gave me the HM for Fly. Again, I couldn't use it but I thanked him for it anyways. Serena and I battled in front of the gym. She's improved a lot in such a short time. She took out Mars, Ryu, and Neto before Umi cleaned things up. Eventually, I reached the top of the gym to fight Ramos, the leader. He was the gym leader that I thought would give me the closest fight so far, and I was right. He sent out Jumpluff and I sent out Umi, because she had learned Ice Beam. Umi took a lot of damage because of a critical hit, but she knocked out the Jumpluff with one hit. I sent in Mars to handle the Weepinbell because I wanted to save Neto for the final battle. Mars took out the Weepinbell with about half of his health left, and being poisoned. He still managed to almost knock the Gogoat, even slowing it down so we would outspeed. Neto couldn't land a hit though, because the Gogoat kept on dodging his attacks. For that reason, he was knocked out. It was Umi versus Gogoat. Both were at really low health, and whoever would hit first would win. As luck would have it, that would be Umi. The Rock Tomb really came in handy, as it allowed Umi to outspeed and for us to earn our fourth badge. And with that, it's back to Lumiose to earn our fifth badge.

Always up for interesting new challenges, and this is definitely one.

Username: KimbosUnova
Game: FireRed (will do a different sign up for every version of the game I do, using a Pokemon from that generation)
Optional Rules/Tweaks: Not using the move rule, as it just seems a nuisance rather than making anything more difficult. BFL for this game will be Electabuzz (if this is deemed cheating because he doesn't have the option to evolve, I will swap to Seel).

The first update will come soon.

UPDATE
Spoiler:

After moving to Alola I was informed by the local Professor Kukui that the Kahuna of Melemele island would give me a pokemon. So I headed to Iki Town with him learning some of the basics of being a trainer as we went. Once we reached Iki Town Kukui asked me to go and look for the Kahuna. However seeing a strange girl distracted me so I followed her to a bridge where a pokemon was being attacked by Spearows. I agreed to go and help, once I saved Nebby we headed back to town, the Kahuna was there so I chose Popplio as my starter at least temporarily until I could access a PC to collect my Mimikyu. I battled a boy named Hau who seemed nice enough whilst Lily, Kukui and Hala watched.

The next day I headed out to a festival and battled Hau again for the Tapu of the island. Then Lillie took me to meet up with the professor again who gave me a rotom dex for my island challenge. Then Lillie and I headed to the trainer school, stopping off at the Pokémon Centre so that I could grab Lestrange my Mimikyu. Before taking on the trainer school I trained up Lestrange. Whilst there I found a Grimer (King Grimes) and decided to add it to my team. After beating the trainer school I headed to the Marina, catching a Magnemite (Unidentified) along the way in the shopping district, where apparently Team Skull was causing a ruckus, I also got to battle Ilima. On Route 2 I caught a Growlithe (Sirius) and whilst training in the cemetery I caught a Drifloon (Seraphina). I met up with Hau again at the Pokémon Centre after clearing out Team Skull from a berry field before taking on and beating Ilima's trial in Verdant Cavern, as I was leaving I ran into a Rattata (Scabbers) who felt weaker compared to the other ones in the Cavern so I decided to bring him with us on our adventure bringing my team to six. On Route 3 I caught a Cutiefly (Queenie) and when I found Lillie in the Meadow I caught a Petilil (Sprout). I continued down Route 3 back to Iki Town to take on Hala's grand trail. Seeing as Seraphina is part ghost I was not worried about fighting him seeing as he could not use the fighting moves on me, the problem came of his pokemon knowing Pursuit however we still managed to over come him and win the grand trial. Once getting the Tauros ride pager I decided to go and explore some areas that I couldn't access to, in Ten Carat Hill, I caught a Roggenrola (Hagrid) in the cave and a Rockruff (Remus). Following this I headed off to the Marina to meet up with Lillie, Kukui and Hau to go to Akala Island.

UPDATE #3

My team and I confront our first challenge: Sprout Tower. It proves to not be much of a challenge as Kyuubi and Specs easily handle the Bellsprouts we encounter, and the few trainers with Hoothoots are taken care of by Joplin. After defeating the Elder we are deemed ready to challenge Falkner. I decide to bring Kyuubi and Joplin with me for this battle. The first fight is Kyuubi vs Falkner's Pidgey. Pidgey causes some trouble with Sand attack, but Kyuubi keeps up an assault of quick-attacks, and eventually takes it down. The next fight is Joplin vs Pidgeotto. Despite being Falkner's ace, it is taken down quickly by Joplin's rock throw. And so we quickly earn our first badge. Upon leaving the gym, I get a call from Elm, who informs us that he's giving us the egg from earlier. Now with my team being 3+an egg, I head south, my next stop being Azalea town. On the way, we find a Mareep that had lost its herd, so we brought it along with us and named him Fleece. (he won't be able to evolve :( ).

Minor Update: We made it to Azalea town after trekking through Union cave. Next update will cover our encounter with Team Rocket and challenging the 2nd gym.

Spoiler:
Our hero gained the Plant Badge with the help of his new partner, Umi the Lapras. Now onto your regularly scheduled episode.

Episode 5:
Spoiler:
I made my way to the Power Pant on my way back to Lumiose because I heard that there was a commotion there causing the Lumiose Power Outage. I took care of that quite easily, as Neto finally learned Flame Thrower. This would be very useful against Clemont's Magneton. After clearing up the incident involving Team Flare, I moved onto Lumiose City and set my sights on the sixth badge. When challenging Clemont, I started off with Neto and he started with Emolga. He used Volt Switch to start and went into his Magneton. Predicting this, Neto used Flame Thrower and brought Magneton down to one health point. Clemont tried to heal his weakened Pokémon, but it was no use as Neto eventually knocked him out. The next Pokémon he used was Heliolisk. Unfortunately, Neto was already tired and the Heliolisk knocked out Neto. I sent in Ryu to clean things up though, and he managed to just knock out the Heliolisk with Dig. His final Pokémon was his lead, Emolga. Emolga knocked out Ryu with Aerial Ace, but I was prepared for his Pokémon. I sent out Mars, who easily knocked out Emolga with Rock Tomb after taking a Volt Switch very well. And with that, we earned our sixth badge, the Voltage Badge.

UPDATE # Whatever

Upon reaching Azalea town I learned that Team Rocket was chopping off slowpoke tails at slowpoke well. Since I find that to be really fucking dark for a pokemon game, I decided to do something about it. I was briefly accompanied by Kurt, before he....tripped or something and was taken out of the fight. Sure, make the ten year old do everything. Anyways Fleece and Kyuubi cleaned house, leaving only the Rocket Exec in charge of the cave operation. Again, these rockets put up very little of a fight. While freeing all of the Slowpokes however, we found one that seemed uninterested in staying in the town. Odd behavior for a Slowpoke, but I decided that I would bring her along with us, and named her LaZ (pronounced Lazy). After some training in the well, I decided we were ready for our second gym challenge.

I decided I would use Kyuubi, Specs, and Joplin, as they all had advantages on bug types. Getting through the gym trainers wasn't too tough. Then came the actual battle with Bugsy. I started off with Kyuubi, and he sent his Scyther. I had hoped that Kyuubi could steamroll this gym with Ember but Scyther got a quick attack in that did more damage that I was comfortable with. So I switched in Joplin and crushed him easily with Rock throw. 4x effectiveness ftw. Kyuubi and Specs cleaned up Bugsy's Metapod and Kakuna with ease. I'm hoping that the next few gyms provide more of a challenge. Anyway, we got our 2nd badge, and decided to head through Ilex forest. However before we could leave, we encountered Jackass again. Of course he had to battle us, I think he may be a masochist. Anyway the first fight was Specs vs Gastly. HE was probably all smug thinking he had an advantage but I'd had the Foresight to let Specs keep Foresight on its moveset, and annihilated him with Uproar. Next up was his Croconaw. I was hoping that Fleece could handle him due to his type advantage, but Croconaw was just a much higher level. Fortunately Fleece got him to a low enough hp that Kyuubi could finish him with quick attack. His Zubat didn't do much better. As he left I felt a kick from inside the Eg. It must be hatching soon! Anyway, next time, we'll head into the forest.

Disturb Not The Harmony April 25th, 2017 9:36 PM

I'm still going, but here's my progress so far.

Spoiler:

Our hero Sig starts off with his buddy Rex the Rhyhorn in the small town of Pallet. His trainer's journey is pretty conventional, obtaining a Caterpie and an evolution-refusing Pikachu from Route 2 and Viridian Forest (respectively). Brock falls to Confusion, and Sig continues on to fight the trainers on Route 3. With that complete, he happily scoops up a proto-Gyarados from a sleazy salesman and begins the long... long... process of training it.

Along the way, he defeats several foul thieves attempting to take his rare Rhyhorn from him. Upon exiting the cave, Rex proceeds to demonstrate his value by soloing Sig's rival. Bolt the Pikachu, who was flattened by the rival's Pidgeotto, embarks upon a courageous training montage to make up for its initial weakness. Along the way, they pick up an incredibly lazy Abra who refuses to fight, even to evolve. Oh well. At least it has Teleport.

After fixing a horrible scientific abomination, Sig receives a cruise-liner ticket and a bucket of brain bleach. Hoping the cruise will finish the job of wiping the sight from his memory, he exits Cerulean, only to be assaulted by a paranoid thief. The fiend's dastardly Drowzee hypnotizes and confuses all Sig's Pokemon, blowing through them like a fell wind, until... Mal the Magikarp summons the power within and brings it down. Yes. Really. That isn't a euphemism for evolving into Gyarados. Somehow the Magikarp defeated Drowzee when everything else became stunlocked by sleep and confusion. Sig scratches his head and heads to the Gym, hoping a new Badge will help reality start making sense again.

The battle with Misty is eventful, with Bolt first taking out Staryu, then falling to Starmie in its turn. The courageous Pikachu managed to paralyze the beast, however, and Free the Butterfree struggles mightily to bring it down. But it, in turn, fails, and all seems lost... until Rex comes in and rends from Starmie the last bit of its HP! Sig exits the Gym victorious.

Several battles and a new Bellsprout later, Sig finds himself on the verge of defeat, as his best prospect for taking down a Spearow is Mal... and the Magikarp pulls out a win, completely unassisted, with a sliver of health remaining. Reality continues to be weird as Sig, after healing, heads to Diglett's Cave... and meets a Dugtrio on his first encounter. Well, there went any semblance of a difficulty curve.

Onboard the S.S. Anne, Mal finally evolves, and the ever-obnoxious and unhelpful rival is chased offboard by an angry Gyarados. The captain rewards Sig for his community service with HM01, and the ship hastily sets sail before Professor Oak's bratty grandson returns.

Sig enters Lt. Surge's legendary Gym, only to find out that it suffers from a terminal case of false advertising: the first switch was located beneath a can near the entrance, but the second switch was under the one in the upper-left corner. He repays Surge for his lying by introducing him to Rex.

After a great deal of bumping about in the dark, Sig emerges from Rock Tunnel into the land of endless creepypasta. He doesn't stick around for long, and departs for the west. In a touching scene, he bids farewell to his Bellsprout outside Celadon, for it was never much inclined to battle and has decided to put down roots with the local prosperous plant community. He works off his angst by battling the local gangsters, then having a friendly match with the human fans of the local plant community.

Well... "friendly" if you don't account for Wrap. And Wrap. And Wrap. Both Mal and Lance the Dugtrio fall before Victreebel, with Free hastily finishing it off. Sig discovers, to his bemusement, that Erika's Tangela apparently knows no Grass moves - Rex knocks it out of the part. Then Free returns to battle Vileplume, but faints from poison and Vileplume's assault... Whereupon, as soon as Rex enters the field, Vileplume defeats itself in confusion! An unexpected end to the match.

Sig makes a contract with the local representative of Pidgey Airlines and flies back to Lavender. There, he meets once again with his rival.

Mal defeats Pidgeotto, but is sleeplocked by the rival's collection of sentient eggs. Lance serves Exeggcute the notice that it is no longer Easter, and Bolt takes down the enemy Gyarados. Rex proceeds to stampede the frail Kadabra, and nearly pulls out a win against Charmeleon. Alas, the cheating wretch failed to get the notice that healing-items-during-battle are banned in this challenge, and thus Lance had to return to put out the lizard's fire.

Somehow ghosts can't be touched by slashes, but they are deathly afraid of shovels. Thus Lance exorcises absolutely all of them with Dig, except for the ghost of Cubone's mother... which really just needed a PokeDoll, apparently. Aww. The Rockets are exorcised without too much more difficulty.

Snorlax, upon being awoken, trips and falls on a Pokeball. After Hyper is added to the team, Sig recruits Tri the Doduo... only for tragedy to strike as Mal yearns to return to the open sea. Sniffling, Sig bids farewell to his faithful rampaging monstrosity.

In Fuchsia, he challenges the Gym, and promptly struggles to defeat everyone except the Gym Leader. Known for blowing up his final Pokemon while the challenger is safely underground, Koga instead opts for a different variety of incompetence and has his L43 Weezing defeated by a L25 Butterfree. As Sig celebrates his new badge, the dissolute "ninja" resolves to lay off the sake, reform his life, and, if that fails, foist the job off on his daughter and hope to get kicked upstairs. But that's a tale for the planned spinoff series.

The Safari Zone goes well, with Sig acquiring a sentient mushroom (with bonus crab), a new HM, and somebody's dentures. Before his inventory can go any further on its journey towards resembling a bad point-and-click adventure game, he trades them in for a new HM. Whew, now he's only carrying around candy, a fossil, vitamins, a chunk of gold, Pokemon steroids, a musical instrument, a few ropes, and other respectable and normal items that every young boy should have on hand at all times. Teeth, however, were just too weird.

We end this update at Saffron, where Sig stands ready to battle the mother of all hostile takeovers.

Well, I've finally updated again. I'm gonna be writing this as I play so I may not get through it all on the first go. Anyways, here goes.
In the last episode:
Spoiler:
Our hero battled against Clemont and earned his Voltage Badge in a hard fought battle that went down to the wire. Now, onto your regularly scheduled episode.

Episode 6:
Spoiler:
As I left the gym, Professor Sycamore called me and told me to meet him at Lysandre Café. Before I went to do that, I healed up at the Pokecenter and picked up Azure from the PC. I feel that he will be very useful in the future, and it never hurts to have another partner. I then skated to Lysandre Café and met with Sycamore and Lysandre. Seems kind of egotistical to name your Café after yourself, but hey, to each their own. Sycamore and Lysandre went on and on as I zoned out. Luckily, Lysandre gave me a King's Rock for making me sit through that. As I left the café, Trevor decided to call me. He told me to meet with everyone at Route 14 so I headed there. I compared Pokedexes with Trevor and I surprisingly saw more Pokémon. I then proceeded to battle Serena. She led with Meowstic as usual, and I led with Neto. I had to switch out Neto for Mars, as Neto was almost knocked out. Disarming Voice did quite a bit to Mars so I switched out into Saur who ended up living a Psychic and knocked Meowstic out with Razor Leaf. I switched Mars in and Serena sent out her Absol. Absol tried to set up on us with Swords Dance, and Mars couldn't one shot it so Absol knocked him out. He then knocked out Neto, but couldn't take out Saur. Saur ended up knocking Absol out and had to battle against Greninja. Greninja went for the Quick Attack but didn't do much, and Saur used Razor Leaf. It just wasn't enough though, but Greninja couldn't knock Saur out before we got off a second Razor Leaf. And with that, Serena was defeated. Turns out Shauna was watching our battle and she found it enjoyable. Tierno showed up not much later. Shauna suggested we go to the scary house but Serena declined. Maybe she's easily frightened... I'll have to use that to my advantage...

Team Recap: (I will hold off of this until I defeat the gym)

I just picked this challenge back up. When I last left off, I had just barely defeated Roxie to obtain my second badge. Currently, I am grinding in Castelia City, so I can earn my third badge from Burgh before midnight - since I am playing White 2, I have a Braviary to catch. :)

I'm thinking of taking on this challenge next, on Black 2.

If your BFL is a baby Pokemon, can you evolve it? Rule 1 says you can't, rule 3 says baby Pokemon are exempt from that evolution rule, but are they also exempt from the other evolution rule?

Aleimon Thimble April 7th, 2019 1:36 PM

I have started the Anime-style Challenge. I made the following slight alterations of the rules:

- Rule 2: I will count 10 Pokemon in my possession as the hard limit (instead of a guideline). The starter doesn’t count as it will be released once I obtain my BFL.
- Rule 6: I will only use one TM on each Pokemon, no exceptions.
- Rule 8: I may begin a Gym battle with fewer Pokemon than the Gym Leader, but never more.
- I will add Species Clause (no duplicate Pokemon allowed), HM Slave Clause (may capture HM slaves outside of the rules of the challenge as long as they don’t battle), and Shiny Clause (may always capture shinies – tbh I only needed to invoke that rule once in my entire Pokemon life, but whatever).

I named my character Cyan, since Pokemon characters are often named after colors (in the manga anyway), I don’t think Cyan has been used yet, and it sounds pretty cool as a name. My rival is named Beige, which doesn’t sound quite as cool but it’s still okay.

I chose Tepig as a starter, although it doesn’t really matter as it won’t be my Pokemon for long. I beat Beige, walked towards Floccesy Ranch as quickly as possible, and started searching for Riolu. I found one after 11 encounters, which is nice (20 would be expected with a 5% encounter rate). It was rather tricky to catch; Rule 7 didn’t allow me to use Tackle more than once, but Ember would have killed it, so I could only chuck Poke Balls after a single Tackle. After six Poke Balls, I got my BFL, Riolu! It was even Adamant, which is an amazing nature. Very happy with it. Bye bye Tepig.

Training Riolu was a bit difficult at first with Foresight, Endure and Quick Attack as my three moves, due to Rule 7. Thankfully, I learned Counter and Feint soon enough. The trainers in Floccesy Ranch did not put up much of a fight, so I could quickly start the Gym with my Riolu at level 12.

Sadly, I lost the first battle in the Gym. At this point I could do two things – capture more Pokemon, or grind Riolu. Since I use a stricter version of Rule 2 I didn’t want to waste any Pokemon slots, and opted to grind Riolu. At level 14 I did succeed in beating the two trainers, the final of which pushed me over the edge to level 15, where Riolu learned Force Palm. With Force Palm, Cheren was a joke even with Rule 7 in effect (I just had to waste two turns in between). First badge obtained!

Oh yeah, I didn’t get a response to my question, but I’m not going to evolve Riolu ever. It seems to be against the spirit of the challenge.

To be continued!

I'm now up to the third Gym and I wrote a story!

Spoiler:
Mom: ‘I’m both glad and sad to see you go… it’s going to be a big adventure, and all kids your age do this in our world. Somehow. Just like Bianca before you, she’s two years older and she started two years ago. Man, our Pokemon world has some weird customs…’
Cyan: ‘I know, right? But I’m looking forward to it. And I’ll definitely come home every once in a while. Once I can use my Pokemon to Fly. Maybe. If I checked the map correctly, it’s pretty hard to come back here.’
Mom: ‘…’

Bianca: ‘This view is scenic, is it not? But that’s not why we’re here. Pick any of these three Pokemon!’
Cyan: ‘Can I get a Charmander? Or a Treecko? A Turtwig? Or maybe a Totodile?’
Bianca: ‘These are your three options!’
Cyan: ‘…’
Bianca: ‘What’s wrong?’
Cyan: ‘I may have been born in the wrong region.’

[some time later]

Cyan: ‘I’ve been looking forward to this so much. But now that it’s finally begun… we just don’t seem to click, Tepig and I. Do we just need to get used to each other a bit more?
Alder: ‘If you want, I’ll help you catch another Pokemon.’
Cyan: ‘I can catch another Pokemon just fine. I’ve seen this stuff many times. It’s just that I feel bad… other trainers seem to get along with their starter.’
Alder: ‘If you want, you can give Tepig to me. I’ll take good care of it.’
Cyan: ‘Seems fair.’

-WILD RIOLU APPEARED-
Cyan: That’s the one! We’re going to be best friends!
Tepig: Well screw you.
Cyan: Are you at least going to help me catch it?
Tepig: Just one move and that’s it.
Cyan: Ugh. Fiiiine.

Cyan: Goodbye, Tepig!
Tepig: Whatever.
Alder: Don’t worry and good luck with your journey! I’ll randomly jump off cliffs every once in a while to check on you.
Riolu: I’ll never leave your side!
Cyan: Yay!

[some time later]

Cyan: Riolu, you have grown a lot stronger. And you’re a Fighting type, so you’re strong against Normal types. Do you want to see if we can beat a Gym together? Cheren specializes in Normal types.
Riolu: My only Fighting-type move is Counter.
Cyan: Is that a yes?
Riolu: Um.

Riolu: I told you it was a bad idea.
Cyan: Untrue! You said ‘um’. That’s profoundly different.
Nurse Joy: Hold still while I spray Potion all over you.

-RIOLU LEARNED FORCE PALM-
Riolu: That should do it.
Cheren: Are you sure you want to challenge me? My gym trainers beat the crap out of you last time. You’re allowed a second Pokemon, you know.
Cyan: I’m pretty sure.
Cheren: Okay then.
Cyan: Riolu, Force Palm!
Cheren: ...

Cyan vs Cheren: Riolu lv 15 (Cyan wins)

Cyan: Beige, what are you doing here?
Beige: Just standing in the tall grass. This grass has extra strong Pokemon, you know.
Cyan: You have to actually move to encounter anything.
Beige: I beg to differ.
Cyan: What’s with the foolhardiness? Didn’t exactly help you out in Floccesy Ranch, where you were so focused on that Herdier while I just randomly bumped into it. Just go with the flow.
Beige: I could explain my story to you right now, but the story writers won’t let me do that yet, so you’ll just have to deal with it.
Cyan: …

Random chick: Catch a second Pokemon! Riolu will be lonely!
Cyan: Riolu, are you lonely?
Riolu: Nope.
Random chick: Just do it! There are strong Pokemon in the Virbank Complex!
Cyan: Whatever.
-WILD MAGNEMITE APPEARS-
Cyan: Okay, you’re pretty cool. Riolu, would you be okay if I caught it?
Riolu: Whatever.
Magnemite: Bzz?

Riolu: Let me do it!
Cyan: I’m sorry, but there’s such a thing as a type chart. Fighting moves don’t work well on Poison types.
Riolu: This is an Anime-style challenge. Screw type charts. I’ll beat the lame rock chick.
Cyan: Don’t be jealous! Magnemite can do this.
Riolu: Fiiiine.
Magnemite: Bzz?

Roxie: So unfair!
Cyan: Magnemite is getting charged up by your electricity. You don’t stand a chance!
Roxie: I’ll switch everything off!
Cyan: Too late. Magnemite, Thundershock!
Magnemite: Bzz!
Riolu: Yawn.

Cyan vs Roxie: Riolu lv 18, Magnemite lv 18 (Cyan wins)

Cyan: I guess the next stop would be Castelia, the capital of our sweet nation. There should be a boat somewhere around here.
Stu: You HAVE to star in one of my movies!
Cyan: Excuse me, have you seen the ship captain?
Stu: Will you come with me? I have a surprise for you!
Cyan: Are you coming on to me?
Stu: Maybe. Also, you have to star in one of my movies!
Cyan: You’re like a million years old and I’m not gay. And I’m not a movie star either.
Stu: You will be!
Cyan: Get me the bleep out of here.
Random chick: Do you want to use your own Pokemon for this movie or rental Pokemon?
Cyan: Neither. I want to go to Castelia. Get me the bleep out of here.
Random chick: Own or rental?
Cyan: … FINE. My own Riolu, please.
Random chick: Uh oh! You have to use rental Pokemon the first time.
Cyan: ... which one?
-RIOLU APPEARS-
Cyan: You have got to be flipping kidding me.
Stu: This movie can only be shot with this Riolu.
Cyan: I HAVE a Riolu of my own.
Stu: Let’s go!
Cyan: No! Riolu!

Cyan: Are you the ship captain?
Pop Roxie: Yes! And thanks for starring in the movie!
Cyan: Thank Arceus. Now get me the bleep out of here.

Pop Roxie: What’s going on here?
Plasma Grunt: Give me your Pokemon! We’re Pokemon liberators!
Cyan: Lol.
-RIOLU USED FORCE PALM-
Plasma Grunt: Ouch.

Beige: Let’s continue to hunt those bastards in Castelia!
Cyan: I’m actually kind of on a roll beating gyms and I couldn’t care less about those weak idiots that are trying to steal Pokemon.
Beige: If you help me out, I’ll help you prepare for the next Gym. I can help you select an appropriate Pokemon in Castelia.
Cyan: Deal.
Riolu: Grumble.
Cyan: One of these days you’ll come to terms with the fact that your part of a team! And I still love you, Riolu, don’t worry.
Riolu: Whatever.
Cyan: Are you still mad about the movie thing? I basically got abducted, you know.
Riolu: I know. That’s not it. It’s just… I thought I was going to be just the two of us. You ditched that stupid fire pig and then that was it.
Cyan: Well, Tepig and I… we just didn’t click. But there are many Pokemon out there, and we should try to be friends with several of them instead of just one. That’s just what trainers do. But you’ll always be special to me.
Riolu and Cyan: - hold hands –
Cyan: … that may have been a bit gay.
Riolu: Agreed. Let’s not do that again. Don’t want to become like Stu.

Riolu: Ugh. I hate the sewers.
Cyan: That’s ironic.
Riolu: Why?
Cyan: Your name almost means ‘sewer’ in Dutch. It’s ‘riool’ instead of ‘riolu’, but it’s pretty close.
Riolu: Heh. The more you know…
Beige: Can you shut up? They’ll hear us coming from a mile away. I don’t care about the Dutch language at all.

Cyan: That was easy.
Riolu: -cleanses fists-
Plasma Grunt: Ouch.
Burgh: Thank you! If you want, you can challenge me in the Gym later on.
Cyan: Beige and I have a couple of things to do first, but I’ll challenge you soon!
Burgh: -walks off-
Cyan: He’s a Bug type, right? I should get a Zubat from these sewers, he’s strong against Bug types.
Beige: Nah. Zubat are for chumps. You’re from Unova, where’s your national pride? You can get a Woobat instead of a Zubat just a bit further!
Cyan: What does Woobat look like again?
-WILD WOOBAT APPEARS-
Cyan: Um.
Beige: Go for it!
Cyan: -whispers- that thing’s ugly as f*ck
Riolu: -whispers- I know right

Riolu: Try to be friends with as many Pokemon as possible, right?
Cyan: Oh shut it.
Woobat: <3
Cyan: I’d rather you focus on winning battles and getting stronger, because we are getting nowhere right now.
-WILD POKEMON USED RANDOM MOVE-
-WOOBAT FAINTED-
Cyan: Sigh.

Cyan: Man. I’ve got spider webs all over me. And somehow I don’t feel as confident as in the previous Gym.
Riolu: -snickers-
Woobat: <3
Burgh: Welcome and let’s go!

Woobat: -pants-
Cyan: This Dwebble is too strong for you… Woobat, come back, and go Riolu!
Riolu: Finally.
-RIOLU USED FORCE PALM-
-DWEBBLE FAINTED-
-BURGH SENT OUT LEAVANNY-
Riolu: Uh oh.
Cyan: No problem. Riolu, come back, and go Magnemite!
-MAGNEMITE USED THUNDER WAVE-
-LEAVANNY IS FULLY PARALYZED-
Magnemite: Bzz!
-MAGNEMITE USED SONICBOOM-
-LEAVANNY USED RAZOR LEAF-
-CRITICAL HIT-
Magnemite: Bzz…
Cyan: You’re a good opponent, Burgh. Finally a challenging battle. But I think I can still win this. Go, Woobat!
Riolu: This is going to be a disaster.
Cyan: Don’t worry. I’m faster now thanks to Thunder Wave.
-WOOBAT USED AIR CUTTER-
-LEAVANNY FAINTED-

Cyan vs Burgh: Riolu lv 22, Woobat lv 21, Magnemite lv 20 (Cyan wins)

Riolu: Maybe battling in a team isn’t so bad.
Magnemite: Bzz!
Woobat: <3

Grimoire Dualight April 20th, 2019 5:18 AM

The previous post should be recent enough that this isn't a necro, so here's my entry in this challenge:

Username:Grimoire Dualight
Game:Yellow
Optional Rules/Tweaks?: The Safari Zone is exempt from rule 2,
The Bro For Life is Caterpie, who is exempt from remaining un-evolved, partially because of the exception to rule 3, partially because I want it to have at least some use at any point in the game.
For evolutions I will roll a d12,>7 allows evolution, and for releasing I will roll a d20, releasing on 14,15,16 and re-rolling on 17,18,19. If I would have to re-roll twice one of the previously released Pokémon comes back instead. If I have no Pokémon released at that point nothing happens.
(Using dice instead of a generator so I can make rolls on the move)
I just caught the Caterpie in Viridian Forest, and won't be using nicknames at all.
I tried to make the rival use his Flareon team as I cannot recall fighting that before, so I lost the first battle, and then used only Pikachu, who I will box for the rest of the run to beat the optional match before buying any Pokéballs so I could get 5 Pokéballs from Prof. Oak.

Edit(May 19th): I haven't been playing much, but here's what I have done so far:
Captures and evolutions:
Route 22: Mankey, is allowed to evolve.
Route 3: Spearow, not allowed to evolve.
Mt. Moon: Geodude, allowed to evolve, but only once(since I cannot trade with anyone, Pokémon that have a trade evolution still roll twice, both to increase the chance of them evolving once and to decide if they can use 3 TMs or only one)
Has since evolved to Graveler aboard the S.S. Anne.
Route 4: Sandshrew, not allowed to evolve.
Route 25: Bellsprout, allowed to evolve only once. Evolved to Weepinbell before challenging Misty.
Route 5: I originally intended to catch a Jigglypuff, but while level grinding before the gym a Pidgey utterly destroyed both Rattata and Geodude, so I caught it and released the Jigglypuff. This Pidgey is allowed to evolve twice, has already become a Pidgeotto and must now be part of the team I enter into the Hall of Fame.

Important battles: Vs. Brock: Butterfree and Mankey, Butterfree didn't even need Mankey's assistance.
Vs. Misty: Brough Butterfree and the newly evolved Weepinbell, lead with Weepinbell who, through the use of Sleep Powder and Growth, won without taking damage.
Vs. Rival(S.S. Anne): Pidgeotto took on his Spearow, Mankey his Rattata, Weepinbell his Sandshrew and Butterfree his Eevee, and all of them won their individual match-ups.
Vs. Surge: The only thing in that Gym that was even remotely capable of threatening Graveler was Sonicboom, which Surge's Raichu did not know, and thus Graveler demolished that Gym.

I used the TM 01 Mega Punch on Geodude and the TM 04 Whirlwind on Spearow.
I used the HM 01 Cut on Sandshrew.

I haven't had to release any Pokémon yet.

My currently active team consists of:
Butterfree level 23(BFL)
Mankey level 23
Graveler level 27(evolving it before defeating Surge caused a bit of a lead)
Pidgeotto level 22
Weepinbell level 24
Sandshrew level 8 (designated HM user, this last slot remains variable for the time being)

This seems a fun way to work on my writing and have a fun Pokemon challenge

Username: MurkyCrow
Game: Pokemon Sapphire
Optional rules/Tweaks: I'll definitely be using the 'no held items' rule up there. I'll also be leaving it up to chance on whether or not I successfully capture a Pokemon. Since in the anime sometimes a Pokemon runs off, or another person stops Ash, or they just go through an episode with a new Pokemon that they don't catch. I'll use the 5/12 for that.

MurkyCrow May 26th, 2019 5:50 PM

I'll do these like journal entries. Was going to make a story but I've been spending more time writing than playing and that's just no fun.

Spoiler:

--may 26, 20XX

We finally arrived in Littleroot town. I'm still sore from the ride here. Me and Mareep slept pretty much the whole time. I had the worst nightmare though. I was standing on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean. There was this crazy huge storm going on. I was so scared I was going to fall into the sea. Then this huge, glowing sea monster just suddenly leapt out and lunged right at me. I fell into the water. I was drowning. It was such a horrible dream. Thankfully Mareep was there to comfort me. I'm so lucky to have him. I still don't know what caused that dream. I've never been afraid of the ocean. I guess it must just have been because I was sleeping in the back of a van.

After we got all our stuff up mom had me go next door to say hi to our new neighbors. Apparently they're friends of dad. I met Mrs. Birch and her son Brendan. He seemed disappointed to see that I wasn't a boy. I can already see that we aren't going to be getting along. He was interested in Mareep. I guess they don't see these much here in Hoenn. He was going to challenge me to a battle but apparently he had places to be. I really didn't get to talk much at all before he was running out the door.

I was just going to head back to the house when I heard yelling just outside of town. It was Professor Birch. He was being chased around by a little grey Pokemon with a notch in its ears. It might have been a fierce little thing but it was also weak. Mareep was able to take it down easily. Professor Birch wasn't hurt but he was pretty jumpy the rest of the way back to his lab. We talked a bit about Pokemon, and my dad. He brought up his son. When I mentioned our meeting he suggested that I go to Oldale Town. Brendan is just north of there studying the local Pokemon. So i'm heading up there to take him up on his challenge.

--may 26, 20XX

I made it to Oldale town. But on the way I encountered a Zigzagoon being cornered by a trio of Poochyena. The leader had a notch on his ear. I'm sure it's the same one that was attacking Professor Birch. I think it recognized me too. Mareep's Static ability slowed them down and I was able to grab Zigzagoon. We ran all the way to the Pokemon Center in Oldale town. According to the Nurse there Poochyena are known for hunting in packs. They're also known for being persistent and never stopping until they've taken down their opponent. The Zigzagoon is in her care now. She should be alright. Hopefully we don't run into those Poochyena again.

I kept going north along route 103 and found Brendan. He was finally free for a battle. He sent out a Pokemon called Treecko against my Mareep. Treecko's Leer attack really hurt my Mareep's defenses. Mareep put up a good fight but in the end we lost. Dad always told me that a victory is thanks to the Pokemon's strength while a defeat is thanks to a failing on the Trainers part. We at least agree on that. I'm sorry Mareep. I promise next time we won't lose.

In spite of defeating me Brendan had some good things to say about my battling. I wasn't expecting that from him so it was nice. He suggested we go back to Littleroot together. Considering the pack of Poochyena i've made enemies with that seemed a good idea. We decided to make it a race. A race I was winning. Until we got to route 101. The group of Poochyena was waiting for me. Mine and Brendan's Pokemon were still exhausted from the battle we'd just had. There was no way we could've taken them on. But out of nowhere the Zigzagoon appeared. She Tackled the leader and sent it flying. But it didn't stay down for long. Zigzagoon started zipping all around the group. They began chasing after her. Soon they were tripping all over themselves trying to chase her. She was fast. But not fast enough to avoid the leaders jaws. It chomped right into her leg and sent her skidding across the ground. They were all getting ready to gang up on her. I had to do something. So I did the only thing I could think to do. I grabbed up a stick and kept those Poochyena from getting anywhere near Zigzagoon. Brendan ran the rest of the way to Littleroot to get help. Nurse Joy was right. Those guys were not going to let up for anything. One leapt up and grabbed my stick right out of my hands. It snapped it in two. I'm sure it was about to do the same to me. I didn't know what to do. I grabbed Zigzagoon into my arms to protect her and prepared for the worst. But Brendan and Professor Birch showed up just in the nick of time. Birch had Pokemon this time and they were able to send those Poochyena running.

I said goodbye to Zigzagoon but she seemed sad somehow. She actually followed me to the lab. I wouldn't have noticed if Brendan hadn't pointed it out. Back at the lab Professor Birch gave me a Pokedex and Brendan gave me some Pokeballs. He thought that maybe I should catch the Zigzagoon that had tailed us home. Which it did seem to like me, and it was pretty adorable. Professor Birch suggested that I take the Gym challenge. Something I had already been planning to do back in Johto before dad announced our move. The only difference is I really have no idea what to expect. I don't know anything about the Gym Leaders or the Pokemon that live in this region. It's terrifying. But also exciting. I'm going to do it. My first stop is going to be dads Gym. If I can beat him I can beat anybody.

When I left I met that same Zigzagoon again. She was looking at me so cutely, and I couldn't just leave her defenseless with that pack of Poochyena still out there. I tossed a ball at her but she practically jumped at it. We all rested up at the house before leaving. Mom seemed sad to hear I was going so soon. I promise i'll visit every possible day I can. I won't leave her alone like dad has. But this has been my dream forever. She gave me a new pair of shoes as a gift for my journey. I leave in the morning.

Spoiler:

--may 27, 20XX

I left the house for Petalburg. We didn't encounter any of those Poochyena so maybe they've finally given up. There were a few trainers along the way from Oldale to Petalburg, so I saw a lot of new Pokemon and got my team some experience. Mareep doesn't have great defenses it looks like. But his Static has been a huge help in a lot of our battles. While we were traveling I noticed that Zigzagoon would sometimes be holding something. The first time it was a gold nugget, and then I found her holding a Full Restore!? I have not idea where she's getting these things. I hope she's not stealing them. Apparently they're known for rifling through peoples trash and unattended backpacks. I'll need to curb this behavior before we get in big trouble. I'll hold on to the things she picked up though. It's not like I can find the owner.

I reached Petalburg and stopped at the Pokemon Center. The team's doing well. I went to dads Gym to challenge him but then he asked me to help this kid, Wally, go catch a Pokemon. We went back to the route to the east and Wally found a Ralts. Birch's Pokedex says they're a psychic type and super empathic. Wally didn't have any trouble at all catching it so I don't know why dad thought he needed my help. We got back and after Wally left I tried to challenge my dad again. But he refused! He said I wasn't strong enough to take him on. That he wouldn't battle me until i've gotten four gym badges. What kind of gym leader refuses a challenge like that anyway? He won't battle me so I've got no choice but to come back later. He told me to try Rustboro first so that's where i'm heading now.

--may 27, 20XX

I was walking to Petalburg woods when I reached a small beach. There were trainers down there but I couldn't bring myself to go to them for battle. Something about seeing the ocean. I was so afraid all of a sudden and I didn't know why. Mareep started pushing me along, away from the beach. He tried to at least but I got the idea. I don't understand what's wrong with me. It must have been that nightmare. We're away from the ocean now, about to enter Petalburg Woods.

--may 27, 20XX

I encountered a strange Pokemon while traveling through the woods. The Pokedex called it a Shroomish. I tried to catch it but it ran off. Not before paralyzing both Zigzagoon and Mareep with it's spores. It must be a Grass type. I'll have to keep an eye out for them.

--may 27, 20XX

We made it out of the woods in one piece. We didn't encounter any more Shroomish. But we did find a man who was looking for them. We were talking about where to find them when this weird man dressed like a pirate showed up. He was trying to rob the other man. He attacked us with a Poochyena but Zigzagoon and Mareep were able to take us down. Mareep even learned a new move. Thundershock. The pirate ran off and the other man gave me a Great Ball as thanks. But then he ran off in a panic. I think i'll be seeing that pirate again.

--may 27, 20XX

I got to Rustboro and took a rest at the Pokemon Center. Talking to some of the other trainers I learned that Roxanne, the gym leader, uses Rock types. If i'm going to take on this gym I'll need that Shroomish. I stocked up on some supplies at the Pokemart, just in case my Pokemon get hit with it's spores again, and headed back to Petalburg woods.

--may 27, 20XX

I was combing through the woods forever trying to find a Shroomish. I understand that guys frustration now. I finally managed to capture one thanks to Zigzagoon. It was weak but it had at least one Grass type move on it, Absorb. I took some time to train it before challenging the gym. I don't have as strong a bond with her as I do with my other two Pokemon, but she's a good battler and I think we're ready to take on the gym.

--may 27, 20XX

We did it! Thanks to Shroomish we beat Roxanne and earned our first badge. Her first Pokemon, a Geodude, went down in just a couple hits from Shroomish's Absorb. Her next Pokemon was a little trickier though. Even Shroomish's Absorb wasn't doing a whole lot of damage. And Shroomish was being hit hard by it's Rock Throws and Rock Tombs. Shroomish was able to hit it with a Stun Spore and a Leech Seed though, and in the end that saved the day. I'm going to go back to see my dad after we heal up. Maybe he'll finally give me a battle now that i've already gotten a badge.

--may 27, 20XX

I was right. As soon as I left the gym I saw that pirate again being chased by the man from before. I went after them to see if I could help. The man told me that the pirate had stolen some parts from the Devon Corporation. He asked me to go retrieve them since he didn't have any Pokemon of his own. While I was walking there I found a lot of small, pink, and incredibly noisy Pokemon. Apparently they'd been scared out of their home by that pirate. And he'd stolen some old mans Pokemon. I found the pirate in a cave at the end of the route, with the stolen Pokemon. It was a dead end so he was cornered. We had another Pokemon battle. That I won again thanks to Mareep. He gave me back the package he'd stolen, and the Pokemon. But then he ran off. The old man, Mr. Briney, was so grateful to have his 'Peeko' back. He told me to come visit him by his home near Petalburg if I ever needed anything.

I got back to Rustboro and the man from Devon took me to meet his president. He asked me to deliver the package to a captain in Slateport, and then the president gave me a letter to deliver to his son in Dewford. I agreed since I'd be going to those places anyway. The next gym is in Dewford, and the tunnel to Verdanturf is incomplete. Since Mr. Briney has a boat i'll be going to him for help. I'm really not looking forward to the trip though. It still feels like that nightmare is fresh in my mind. I'm resting up at the Pokemon Center now. I'll leave tomorrow.

EDIT Whoops, in my rush to post this, I forgot to actually sign up.
Username: EccentricEncyclopedia
Game: Alpha Sapphire
Optional Rules/Tweaks?: I can only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, so I use Pokémon that I wouldn’t normally. The odds of a Pokémon leaving has been decreased to 1/16. Finally, similarly to Ash, I can only have 6 Pokémon on me (including my BFL) at any time, so no Pokémon in my box, and I can only use pokemon that were introduced in the region that I am playing.
This looks like a really cool challenge so I’m going to give it a go! I will be doing this challenge on Alpha Sapphire and my BFL will be a newly-hatched Snubbull that I traded over from Kalos. I’m going to be doing this with a light story format to suit the anime theme.
Right, let’s begin…
Spoiler:
Alex woke up in the back of the moving van. He was initially panicked but eased himself when he remembered that he was on the way to Littleroot town in the Hoenn region. He still wasn’t sure whether he wanted to be here; on the one hand, Kalos was getting quite boring, but he didn’t want to have to completely uproot. Sadly, with his Dad getting a new job, there seemed to be no choice.
It seemed that Alex waking up had awoken his new partner. The small pink Pokémon yawned as she too awoke from her slumber. Snubbull was a present from Alex’s grandma for his sixteenth birthday, the daughter of her partner Granbull back when the old woman was an officer in the Police Force. You wouldn’t be able to tell this however, as contrary to her intimidating nature, Snubbull was a huge softie and wasn’t used to battling just yet. Alex hoped for this to change as he was planning on taking on the gym challenge in Hoenn.
The van shuddered to a halt and Alex realised that they must have finally arrived at their destination. He pushed open the back doors and jumped out onto the floor beneath him. Littleroot town was small and quaint, smaller even than Geosenge town which he had imagined to be the smallest place in the world (he didn’t get out much). Opening his arms, Snubbull jumped into them and the two of them walked over to their new home.
Inside was his mother and the moving Machokes. Investigating the new house, Alex found his room, which was nice enough and after putting down his things, headed downstairs. His mother half-shouted for Alex to get in the living room but he was unfortunately too slow to see his father on TV. Alex’s mother instructed him to introduce himself to the neighbours, so he trudged himself next door. Inside the house was a girl around Alex’s age named May. She seemed quite shy but did reveal that she was the daughter of the Pokémon professor in the Hoenn region.
Upon leaving, Alex heard the shouts of a large man who was being chased by a rapid canine Pokémon – a Poochyena. However, a quick tackle from Snubbull quickly put the end to it. Professor Birch, the man being chased, was overjoyed at being rescued so gave Alex the option of picking a rare Pokémon from him. Alex chose a Mudkip and had received his second team member!
Birch then asked Alex to go collect his daughter from Route 103 and then he would give them a task to complete. So, Alex found May and engaged in a battle with her Treeko using his new Mudkip. He won despite the type disadvantage and the two teens raced back to Birch’s lab. There, Birch gave them both a Pokedex, a type of pocket encyclopaedia which contained the data of various Pokémon. With this in hand, Alex finally made up his mind and decided to take on the Gym challenge.
After saying goodbye to his mother, Alex left home and ventured out into the many routes of the region. However, none of the Pokémon he met like Zigzagoon, Poochyena or Wurmple really took his fancy. Therefore, he arrived in Petalburg City with his team still consisting of just Snubbull and Mudkip. Alex remembered that his dad was a gym leader in this city, so he went to go visit him. Unfortunately, the gym was undergoing refurbishment as Alex’s dad, Norman, had only just moved in, so Alex wasn’t able to battle his father at the moment. He did, however, help an ill kid called Wally catch a Ralts which left Alex feeling quite chuffed with himself.
The journey continued into Petalburg woods, a forest area filled with bug type Pokémon, which Alex wasn’t particularly fond of. Nevertheless, he trekked on and encountered a scientist being harassed by a strange man in what looked to be a pirate’s costume, flanked by one of the vicious Poochyena species. Alex leapt into the action and defended the scientist. The strange pirate tried to attack Alex, but his plans were cut short by a tackle attack from Snubbull and a water gun to the face from Mudkip sending the grunt running out of the woods, leaving Alex in hysterics.
Out of the woods lay Rustboro city, a place filled with lots of historic sites and was quite pleasant. Alex spent the late afternoon exploring and decided to challenge the gym leader, Roxanne, in the evening. Roxanne was a user of the rock type, so Mudkip was the best choice for the gym, with Snubbull providing backup. Luckily, this backup wasn’t needed – the rock type Pokémon were no match for Mudkip’s water attack which left Roxanne defeated and Alex with his first badge!

Spoiler:
may 28, 20XX

We stayed the night at the center. In the morning I stocked up on supplies and backtracked to Petalburg Woods. I met Brendan on the way back. His Pokédex is coming along well by the sounds of it. Which is more than I can say for mine.

Right now I’m below deck on Mr. Brineys ship. Trying not to throw up. Mareep is being a cuddle bug, I’m sure she can feel how uneasy I am. And not just the sea sickness. Every movement of the boat has me on edge. When it starts rocking I’m sure it’s going to capsize. I should just stop talking before I make myself feel worse.

may 28, 20XX

We arrived in Dewford. After a quick stop by the center I began looking around for Steven. I learned he was in a cave to the north. When I got there a hiker told me how dangerous the cave ahead was and how difficult it’d be to navigate without Flash. Which I needed the Dewford gym badge for. So I guess I’m heading back to challenge the gym.

may 28, 20XX

I lost. Horribly. Mareep got really beat up in a battle with one of the gym trainers. So Zigzagoon and Shroomish were all I had to battle Brawly with. Shroomish got a Stun Spore and a Leech Seed on his Machop. For a second it looked like we were going to beat it. But in the end it knocked Shroomish out. Then Zigzagoon went down in one hit.

I ran my Pokémon back to the center. They were ok. After we rested I went back for a rematch. I thought with Mareep by my side i’d surely win. We didn’t. I was an idiot. Brawly suggested we train some more before facing him, so that’s what I’m going to do.

may 28, 20XX

We went to the north of town and spent the afternoon training. When I felt confident in our strength I went back for a third time. Shroomish got knocked out but she was able to get a Leech Seed and Stun Spore on his Machop. After that Mareep finished it off. Next up was a Makuhita. It was a close battle. Both Pokémon were looking close to fainting. We’d paralyzed the Makuhita but it still managed to get a few hits in. But Mareep managed to hold on and won the battle, earning me my second badge.

We went back to the cave and journeyed through, with Mareep to light the way. In the cave we encountered a Makuhita. According to the hiker at the entrance this Makuhita likes helping people and Pokémon. He’s always ready to see a hiker safely through the tunnel and does whatever he can to keep people safe. Except usually he just gets his butt kicked. The Makuhita insisted on escorting us through the cave and protecting us from wild Pokémon. Though really we were the ones protecting it. It kept falling time and time again. But it kept getting right back up. It never backed down from a fight. I got to admire that kind of thing. We reached the end of the cave and handed the letter over to Steven. He gave us a TM for the trouble so that was nice.

When we were leaving the Makuhita followed us out. It wanted to join me. It wanted to become stronger so it could protect others. And I wanted to help it. I took out a pokeball expecting it to be like when I caught Zigzagoon but no. It still wanted to battle first. He put up a good fight but he was no match for Mareep. With that I added a new member to my team. Now I’m leaving Dewford for Slateport.

may 29, 20XX

We left Dewford for Slateport. Makuhita spent the boat ride training, by assisting Mr. Briney around the ship. He got a good workout from it. We got to Slateport after a long boat ride. It's so relieving to be on the mainland again. There were a lot of other trainers on the beach itching for a battle. My team got a lot of experience from that. When we got to the city I stopped by the boat yard to look for Captain Stern. But he wasn't there. No one seemed to know where he was either. I was going to go to the Pokemon center when I saw that very same pirate from Rustboro walking into the museum. Up to no good of course, so naturally I followed them in. The place was swarming with pirates. They were also there looking for Captain Stern so they could swipe the Devon Goods off of him. I went to go warn him but a couple of those pirates cornered us. I battled them off easily with Mareep. Then their leader showed up. I thought I was in for another battle but all he did was talk nonsense about how Team Aqua was going to expand the sea. He warned me to stay out of his way in the future. I don't know what's up with those guys but i'm scared. I handed the package over to Stern and he headed back to the ship yard.

While doing some sightseeing in Slateport I came across a building for 'Pokemon Contest'. One was underway when I went in so I sat and watched for a while. A little girl gave me a case to use for Poke'blocks. I talked to the other people around and learned more about Contests. Apparently I'll have to do one in Verdanturf Town before I can compete here. It sounds interesting and new so I think i'll give it a try. I did a bit of shopping and left Slateport for Mauville. I know there's a gym up in Mauville so i'll definitely be doing some training.

may 29, 20XX

I met up with Brendan on the way to Mauville and he challenged me to a battle. I lost. Again. He had a Pokemon called a Numel that managed to burn Mareep and Makuhita. I managed to beat that and then he sent out a Wailmer. I sent out Shroomish and with her Leech Seed and Mega Drain she almost managed to beat it, but she was knocked out by it's Rollout attack. Zigzagoon took the Wailmer down but then he sent out his starter. It'd evolved since I had last battled him and it took out the rest of my team easily. He walked with me back to the Pokemon Center. He told me that if I wanted a rematch he was going to be hanging around that route for a while. I've got to train first. I won't lose against him again.

may 29, 20XX

While we were training an Oddish appeared. Seeing a familiar Pokemon made me so happy. I remembered seeing Oddish in the forest outside our home everyday. I wanted to catch it. But it slipped away after distracting Shroomish with it's Sweet Scent. I'll definitely catch the next one though.

may 29, 20XX

We encountered a few more Oddish but they keep getting away. I never thought they could be so elusive. We stopped for lunch. I had all our food sitting out and ready. I was giving my Pokemon their food when I heard this strange noise behind me. I turned around and saw a round, green Pokemon with a yellow thing on it's head just swallowing my lunch whole. It ate everything. My food, the containers. Even the Poke'ball I threw at it. It just swallowed it whole. We managed to scare it off with Mareep's Thundershock. But my lunch is already lost. What a horrible Pokemon.

may 29, 20XX

After my Pokemon were done eating I backtracked to the Pokemon Center in Slateport. I dropped them off at Nurse Joys counter and got myself something to eat. I called mom to say hi and see how she was doing. She had Professor and Mrs. Birch over so I got to talking about my Pokemon with the professor. I mentioned how Shroomish didn't seem to into battling. He asked if I wanted to transfer my Shroomish over to him. He's got this huge chunk of land around his lab that's devoted to holding the Pokemon of other trainers. It sounded nice. Once I got my Pokemon back from Nurse Joy I sent Shroomish over to Professor Birch. She arrived safe and sound. I'll be sure to check up on her later to see how she's doing. I feel confident with my teams strength so i'm heading back out to see if I can find Brendan for a rematch.

may 29, 20XX

I won my rematch against Brendan! Makuhita took his Numel down no problem, he didn't even get burned this time. I sent out Mareep against his Wailmer. A couple Thundershocks was all it took. Next up was his Grovyle. I used Mareep's Flash and Thunderwave to keep it down. I switched to Zigzagoon and he took it down with a few Headbutts. I'm so proud of my team. After a chat Brendan left on a bike. I got to get me one of those. But anyway, now I feel confident I can take on the gym in Mauville.

may 29, 20XX

I got to Mauville. Along the way I thought I could pull out a snack I got from the Center. But then this Pokemon called Wingull just swooped in and tried to take it. What is with the Pokemon around here. I managed to fend it off and was even able to capture it. So I guess I have a Wingull now. I healed up at the Center and headed straight to Mauville Gym. I saw Wally, the kid from Petalburg, standing outside of the gym. He was wanting to challenge it but his uncle was trying to convince him not to. When he saw me he asked me to battle him so he could prove to his uncle that he was ready.

I took out his Ralts with my freshly caught Wingull. Not to rag on Wally though. His Pokemon has gotten a lot stronger and so has he. He's so different from the timid kid I met in Petalburg. He and his uncle left after that. I was invited to come over to their place in Verdanturf. I'll be sure to pay them a visit after I win this gyms badge.

may 29, 20XX

I lost my match against Watson. Just like at Dewford Mareep fainted before we even reached the Gym Leader. So all I had was my Zigzagoon, Makuhita, and Wingull. Makuhita took down his Magnemite but then when the Voltorb came out it was all over. I need to train more. Maybe dad was right when he said I wasn't ready to challenge him.

may 29, 20XX

I lost again. And again. My team is losing morale, and so am I. Makuhita is the only thing keeping our spirits up. He doesn't give up. No matter how many times we've lost. He's still as energetic as ever and ready to battle. Seeing his spirit really cheered me up, and i'm sure it kept the rest of the team from completely giving up. Thanks Makuhita, we won't back down. We won't quit no matter what.

may 29, 20XX

The most incredible thing happened while we were training. Makuhita evolved into Hariyama. He's become so much stronger now, it's incredible. We went back to challenge the gym for the umpteenth time. Hariyama took down Watson's Magnemite no sweat. I sent out Zigzagoon against his Voltorb. While Zigzagoon managed to get a few Headbutts in he wasn't able to hold on for long. I was going to send out Mareep but then Hariyama leapt out instead. He used Fake Out and that was enough to finish off Voltorb, after all those hits from Zigzagoon. Finally it was his Magneton. The one that decimated my team time and time again. I was determined not to lose again. Hariyama felt the same. He took everything that Magneton threw at him and was still standing strong. With a couple Vital Throws we finally earned our third badge. I owe my Pokemon a huge thanks for everything they've done for me today. After everything I put them through. I'll visit Wally at some point but right now it's time to celebrate. I think we all need a little r&r time after today.

--may 30, 20XX

We stayed over at Wally's house for the night. His family is really nice, and it was good to catch up with Wally on what he'd been doing since leaving Petalburg. He's still determined to take the gym challenge. He promised that he'd get stronger and that he'd battle me again when he did. I'm really looking forward to it.

He showed me around Verdanturf. We went to the contest hall where one was just about to start. It was a contest for 'cuteness'. They were still looking for one more participant so I entered with Mareep. Mareep is the pinnacle of cuteness. Unfortunately the judges didn't agree. These contests seem dumb anyway so I won't be trying that again.

Wally told me about his cousin who had been going into the unfinished Rusturf tunnel everyday ever since construction stopped. Her boyfriend was the karate guy I'd seen on the other side. He was trying to dig the rest of the way through and she was worried for him. I went in to see if there was anything I could do. Hariyama's Rock Smash broke through the last of the obstacles and opened the tunnel. The two love birds went back to the house. Me and Wally did as well. I said my goodbyes and left for Lavaridge Town. It's where I'll hopefully get my next badge.

--may 30, 20XX

The cable car I need to get to Lavaridge Town is being blocked by some of those Team Aqua people. They didn't seem to notice me but I heard one muttering about Fallarbor Town. Whatever they're up to i'm going to stop it. I just got out of Fiery Path. I encountered a Pokemon called Slugma inside. I tried to catch it. But it's Smog attack poisoned my Zigzagoon. It escaped while I was tending to my Pokemon. Maybe I'll catch one after I get back from Fallarbor.

--may 30, 20XX

While walking to Fallarbor Wingull jumped out of her ball. She'd been acting odd for a while now but this was a first. I asked her what was wrong. She flew up turning in the direction of Mauville, and the route i'd caught her on. It seemed pretty obvious, she didn't want to leave her home. She was getting homesick, and the further we travelled from her home the more depressed she'd been getting. I knew I had to release her. It wasn't right keeping her captured when she obviously didn't want to be. Me and the rest of the team waved her off as she flew back to her home. I hope she makes it there okay.

--may 30, 20XX

We encountered a strange Pokemon while walking through the ashy grass on the route to Fallarbor. It was swaying back and forth, and seemed to have trouble walking. I thought for sure it must be sick. I was going to capture it, intending to take it to the Center. But after checking my Pokedex I learned that this was just how this particular Pokemon walked. Spinda is what it was called. I was just going to leave but she started pulling at my hand. She wanted me to follow. Even though she wasn't sick I got the impression she still needed my help. And I was right.

She led me to a large group of Spinda. All hiding in the tall grass covering the route. The Spinda I had found began pantomiming something. She was definitely trying to convey flying. I can say this now because out of no where a large bird Pokemon appeared. Swooping down and scaring away the Spinda. The Pokedex identified it as a Skarmory, a Flying and Steel type. The Spinda had left her colony to seek help. Mareep made quick work of the bird and I thought that was the end of it. But the entire colony followed me as I continued my walk. Of course they needed to get away from the Skarmory's territory. So I guess I was their escort. We had a couple more run ins with the Skarmory, but once we were out of it's territory we didn't have any more problems. We found a new home for the colony where they would be safe and well off, and I bid them farewell at last.

I got to Fallarbor and asked around about any strange people. I learned that a local professor named Cozmo had left with a group of shady men dressed like pirates. They'd gone to a place called Meteor Falls and hadn't returned. I'm heading out as soon as my Pokemon are healed up.

--may 30, 20XX

I found Cozmo and the Aqua people in Meteor Falls. I was ready to battle them but then another group of oddly dressed people appeared. They called themselves Team Magma. The two from Team Aqua left right after, they'd already got what they came for. I spoke to the Magma leader Maxie. He and his group were dedicated to stopping Team Aqua. After they were gone I checked on professor Cozmo. He was safe, but Team Aqua had taken a meteorite he had found. I decided to stop them and get that mans space rock back.

On the way back to town I came across a Pokemon called Swablu. I tried to capture it. It dodged the Pokeball though. The Pokeball hit something else though. I didn't see what but I heard it ding. When I let the Pokemon out I found that it was a Lotad. It seemed just as confused as me about what had happened. I didn't encounter anymore Swablu on the way back to Fallarbor. Once I got there I shopped for some supplies at the Pokemart. I also decided to send Lotad to Professor Birch. It didn't seem like much of a battler. I got to check in on Shroomish too. She's a lot happier now. She's even been accepted into a colony of other Shroomish that Birch has collected from other trainers. My Pokemon are all rested up. I think we're ready to go to Mt. Chimney and put a stop to whatever those Aqua's are planning.

--may 30, 20XX

We were able to take the cable car to the top of Mt. Chimney. There were a bunch of Team Aqua and Magma folks duking it out. I found Maxie taking on three Aqua grunts all on his own. He told me that Team Aqua were planning on using the meteorites power to stop the volcano? Something like that. Which I still don't know how any of that is possible. I don't understand what these clowns are doing or thinking at all. I battled a grunt and some guy with no shirt before I got to Archie. Apparently what he was thinking was that with the volcano dormant it would become a lake and become a habitat for water Pokemon. Clearly he isn't thinking about the Pokemon that are already living here around the volano and benefit from it's heat. Hariyama took down his Mightyena easily. Then Mareep made quick work of his Golbat and Sharpedo with his Shock Wave. During the battle Mareep's electric attacks also hit the machine that the Aquas were using. He completely fried the thing. The meteorite was safe though. With no way to carry out their plan Team Aqua left. I got the meteorite out of the machine and went to Fallarbor for a third time to return it to professor Cozmo. He gave me a TM for Return as thanks, and I taught it to Zigzagoon. With Mt. Chimney cleared of those Aqua's I can finally go to Lavaridge town and earn my next badge.

--may 30, 20XX

We just stopped to have a bit of lunch before heading back through Fiery Path when a Numel showed up. I remembered Brendan having one and I was going to capture this one right then and there. But the poor thing was so hungry so now we're just letting it sit with us to eat. It's so adorable. Sitting by my side, munching on Pokemon food and enjoying the sunlight. Mareep's getting jealous. He's trying to push his way in between Numel and me right now, but Numel isn't moving and isn't caring. I get the feeling this Numel must have already belonged to someone. It's too comfortable around humans to be totally wild. But so far no one's come around to claim it.

--may 30, 20XX

After we were done eating the Numel made it very clear that it wanted to come with us. I was able to use a Pokeball on it. So I guess if it did belong to someone they must have released it. I can't imagine why though. It's a perfectly adorable and tough Pokemon.

While we were traveling through Fiery Path we encountered a Torkoal. A very upset Torkoal. It was shooting smoke and fire everywhere. It was obviously in pain. Me and Zigzagoon battled with it and captured it. I'll have to get it to a Center to find out what's wrong. I don't feel safe letting it out myself but I know the Center is able to handle out of control Pokemon like this.

--may 30, 20XX

Jagged Pass seems really unsafe. But we made it to Lavaridge in one piece. After taking a look at Torkoal Nurse Joy found out what was wrong. Some sludge from a Grimer was blocking one of it's vents. It took them a while but they were able to clear it out and now the Torkoal seems to be feeling much better. I thought it would want to go back home but it seems to want to stay with me.

This gave me two Fire types so I decided to send Numel to Professor Birch. As cute as it is, it's also incredibly lazy. It didn't want to battle at all. It just wanted to eat and nap in the sunlight. Which it can do back at Birch's lab. Numel didn't seem to mind either. After I left the Pokemon Center I talked to a lady who was trying to warm a Pokemon Egg in the hot sand. She gave it to me to hatch. I've never hatched an Egg before so this is exciting. I can't wait to see what will come out.

--may 30, 20XX

I won against Flannery, first try. She's strong but I get the feeling she's trying too hard. But it was definitely a tough battle. I sent out Zigzagoon against her first Slugma. She managed to get a few hits in but went down to the Slugma's Overheat. Mareep paralyzed it and took it down with a couple Shock Waves. The next Slugma went down just the same. I kept Mareep out against her Torkoal since we were on a roll. Mareep was able to paralyze it but went down to the Torkoals Overheat. Hariyama was last. He got some good hits in but then Torkoal used Attract on Hariyama. Hariyama was smitten. It was really annoying. But I told Hariyama to show Torkoal how strong he really was with his Vital Throws. All the lady's love a strong Pokemon. That seemed to work somehow and the Torkoal went down earning me my fourth badge.

It was a good battle but I hated going through that gym. Didn't exactly help to quell my fears of sinking or dying. One of the gym trainers laughed at me for being so afraid so I kicked his butt in a battle. Who thought that gym set up was a good idea, it was terrifying.

I called mom after we got back to the Pokemon Center. Dad was there too for a change. I showed him my badges and he seemed impressed. He told me he'd be waiting for me at the Petalburg Gym. He's finally going to battle me. I'm so hyped for this.
But first, I think it's time for a little spa day.

We had a good rest at Lavaridge town, and now it’s time to head back to Petalburg.
I could head down to Mauville, cut through Rusturf Tunnel, and get to Petalburg that way. Or I could trek through the desert to Fallarbor, and maybe catch some new Pokemon. Mareep doesn’t seem to psyched about that though. I think he’s still jealous of the attention I gave to the Numel.

--may 31, 20XX

That was the worst idea i’ve ever had. We got lost, there was a sandstorm, trainers and Pokemon we weren’t prepared to deal with. Despite Mareep’s protests I had to return him to his ball. I couldn’t let him stay out in this.I don’t know what we would have done if we hadn’t found that Trapinch. Or perhaps he found us. I was wandering blind through the sandstorm when I feel into a pit trap dug by the Trapinch. I learned from the Pokedex that they dig these traps to capture prey. Thankfully she didn’t decide I was food. In fact she helped me. She led me through the desert, battling any Pokemon in our way. Unlike the rest of my team she wasn’t having any trouble fighting through the storm. But eventually the battles wore on her too much. She ended up fainting. But by then I could see the other side of the route. I carried her to the safe house, ran by this incredibly overly hospitable woman. She’s resting now. Me and Mareep are keeping an eye on her.

--may 31, 20XX

She woke up after a while. She’s doing a lot better now. She seems to be getting along with my other Pokemon too. It’d be great to have her on the team.

So I asked if she’d like to travel with us and she seemed excited at the prospect. So now i’ve got a new member on my team.

--may 31, 20XX

We passed through Fallarbor Town to the next route. We were just going to head straight to Meteor Falls but suddenly we heard this huge commotion. It was a group of Zangoose and Seviper duking it out over territory. The Pokedex says they’re natural enemies. Not only were they hurting each other though, they were also hurting and terrorizing the other Pokemon living on the route.

I wasn’t sure what to do but then Hariyama let himself out of his Pokeball. He stood between the feuding Pokemon and pushed back every one without breaking a sweat. I’m not sure what he said to them after but the two groups went their separate ways. Me and Hariyama checked up on the other Pokemon that had been hurt in the scuffle. A lot of them needed to be taken to the Pokemon Center. We learned there that these particular groups of Seviper and Zangoose have become a huge problem not just for the Pokemon there, but for the locals to, as well as passing Trainers.

And no wonder. When we went back they were at it again. This time a young Trainer nearly got caught in the fray. But Hariyama swooped in and shielded them from danger. He brought them to me and then went back in to teach the two groups another lesson. He’s grown really strong since I caught him at Dewford. To think he can take on all of these Pokemon by himself. I can’t imagine what i’d do without him.

Hariyama and I parted ways. He wanted to stay behind. He had to stay behind. He’s the only one who can keep the Zangoose and Seviper in line. When I first met him he was determined to become strong and use that strength to protect others. Now he is. It’s going to be difficult without him at my side. But i’m sure we’ll see eachother again.

--may 31, 20XX

We just got through Petalburg Woods when I encountered a Tailow. I hadn’t seen any around here the first time I passed through. I decided to capture it. It didn’t want to go down without a fight. But if I gave it a fight i’m sure my team would’ve demolished it. I finally managed to catch it, four Pokeballs later. I’m not sure whether i’ll keep it yet. It is adorable but I should also be focusing on the team members I have right now.

Right now we’re in Petalburg. I’m ready to take on dad’s gym. I’ll decide whether to keep the Tailow afterwards.

--may 31, 20XX

We lost. I lost. I didn’t even stand a chance. That Slaking of his. It took down my entire team while barely breaking a sweat.

I don’t know what my dad must think of me now. I couldn’t bring myself to look him in the eye. I just ran out of there as fast as I could.

I’m at the house now with mom. I don’t know what i’m going to do. I don’t want to face dad again after such a humiliating defeat. But if I want to take on the league i’ll have to. It’s just so infuriating. I don’t want to think about it anymore. I just want to eat and let my Pokemon get some rest.

--may 31, 20XX
I’m leaving to train on Jagged Path. I’m not leaving until i’m sure we’re strong enough to take on dad.

Spoiler:

--june 1, 20XX

It still wasn’t enough.
Torkoal got through his Slaking but then he sent out Vigoroth. That Pokemon took everything I could through at it and still Slashed through my entire team.

I had caught a Pokemon called Spoink and added her to my team. I thought for sure her Confuse Ray could take care of that Vigoroth. But it was totally unfazed. Confusion, paralysis, nothing kept this thing down. I’m at the Pokemon Center now, letting my team rest. I need to rethink my strategy, and train some more. We took down his Slaking. I know we can beat him.

While I was training on Jagged Path the egg I’d gotten in Lavaridge Town hatched. It was a Wynaut. I went back to the hot springs thinking that the old lady would want the Pokemon back. But Wynaut was already so attached to me. So she let me keep it. It’s the cutest thing. I stands beside me in battle cheering on the rest of the team.

--june 1, 20XX

We finally did it! I beat dad! We’d gone back to the desert to train and it paid off. I used Grumpig against his first Slaking. She confused it and was able to take it down with a few Psybeams. I left her out against Vigoroth. She did a lot of damage but got knocked out by it’s Facade. Mareep finished the job though. He had a second Slaking. I called back Mareep and sent out Torkoal. Torkoal trapped it in a Fire Spin, and tanked the Slaking’s first attack. I used Curse to up Torkoals defenses. That helped him hold together long enough to take down dad’s last Pokemon with some Flamethrowers.

I’m so happy. I feel ready to take on anything now. Dad told me how proud he was of me. I feel like this is the first time in a long time we actually got to sit down and have a conversation with eachother. After a while of chatting though he had to get back to work. He told me to go see Wally’s parents since they had asked to speak to me. Wally’s dad gave me the HM for Surf. I learned from his mom that he’s left Verdanturf Town to go on his Pokemon journey. I’m rooting for you Wally!

I had that nightmare again. But this time Mareep was at my side fighting the giant Pokemon. I didn't feel afraid. I woke up to Mareep asleep under my arm. I pulled him closer and slept the rest of the night with no more bad dreams.

--june 2, 20XX

On the way to Mauville I stopped by the Devon Corporation. I had found a fossil in the desert and left it with a scientist in there who said he could revive it. And he did. I don't know how that's even possible. The fossil was a long extinct Pokemon called Lileep. Professor Birch was very interested in studying it so I've sent it to his lab. The power of science is really amazing!

--june 2, 20XX

You know what's a great idea? Sending a 10 year old with a fear of the water across a gulf, into an abandoned building, to turn off a generator that's about to explode. I don't know why I agreed to do this. Zigzagoon was carrying me across the water when I started panicking. I nearly drowned us both. I can't do this. But we can't go back either. We're stuck now on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere because i'm a coward.

--june 2, 20XX

We were just sitting here while I tried to gather up the courage to either go forward or go back. Mareep had been sitting at my side quietly, but then he leapt into my lap. He was standing up on his hind legs looking right into my eyes, and I think he was giving me a pep talk? I didn't understand but it made me realize. I've got my Pokemon. They're here for me. They're here to help me through anything. I don't have to be afraid. We were able to make it the rest of the way to the island holding Old Mauville. I wasn't exactly fearless on the way here, but I knew Zigzagoon wouldn't let me drown.

--june 2, 20XX

We got the generator shut down. Finally. I couldn't go more than 5 steps without a Voltorb or a Magnemite showing up. It just got worse as we got closer to the generator. I don't think they wanted me to turn it off. When we got to the room holding the machine I could feel it's heat even from outside in the hallway. Magnemite were gathered all around. When we showed up they all attacked us at once. Trapinch was able to handle their attacks but I couldn't get anywhere near the switch. Then Wynaut popped out of it's ball and stood between us and the Magnemite. I was so scared that he was going to get hit. But then something amazing happened. Wynaut evolved into Wobbuffet. It took every attack the Magnemite were throwing at us and sent it right back at them. He knocked them all out and I was able to shut off the generator. Wobbuffet saved all of us.

--june 2, 20XX

On the other side of the gulf we found an entire community of Wynaut and Wobbuffet. My Wobbuffet seemed really happy to be among others of his own kind. I left him there with them. He'll be much better off there. Thank you Wobbuffet, for everything.

A little bit further down I found an Oddish. I still really wanted to capture one. And I actually succeeded this time. I'm keeping her on my team.

--june 2, 20XX

If these Team Aqua buffoons don't want me meddling in their affairs perhaps they should consider not getting in my way too. A couple grunts were blocking the bridge to Fortree. They told me not to go into the weather institute. So of course I headed right on in. Beat down every grunt in the place, and some higher ranking girl named Shelley. The employees there offered me a Castform as thanks but I declined. At this point putting a stop to Team Aqua's plots is just what I do.

After I left Brendan rode up on his bike and challenged me to a 3v3 battle. This time though it wasn't much of a battle. I used Grumpig to take down his Numel with a couple Psybeams. After that Mareep Thunderbolted his Wailmer. Then I sent Gloom out against his Grovyle, and she took it down with some Acid attacks. He said i'd gotten stronger and I guess I really have if I could beat Brendan so easily now. Now we're making our way to Fortree to challenge their gym

--june 2, 20XX

Well I wanted to challenge the gym before moving on but there was something blocking the way. I asked around and no one had any clue what it was or how to get past it. So I had no choice but to move along.

I came across Steven afterwards. He showed me a new tool that Devon had invented. It was made to reveal invisible Pokemon. I didn't even know there were Pokemon that could do that. He used it on something that was blocking the bridge and it was a Kecleon. I took it down. Kecleon can change their typing during battle, they sure are interesting. I might just catch one if I can find it again. I told him about the possible Kecleon in front of the gym so he gave me the Devon scope to use. Hopefully I can challenge the gym now.

--june 2, 20XX

With Mareep at my side I expected a flying type gym to be easier. We breezed through all her gym trainers with Mareep's electric type attacks. I thought it'd be the same with her. Mareep took down her first Pokemon with a Thunderbolt. But then she sent out her Altaria. Not only was this thing tanking Electric attacks, it also knew Earthquake. Mareep got hit bad and I withdrew her for Gloom. Gloom put it to sleep and got some good hits in but then she switched Altaria out for a Skarmory. I sent Torkoal out after and he almost took it down but then she switched out again for Pelipper. I sent Mareep back out hoping he could take it down but it took him down instead. I sent Grumpig out again and she was able to get it's health down but got taken down as well. Then Torkoal. Finally I sent out Zigzagoon. With the Pokemon weakened he was able to save the day. I won but it wasn't easy.

We've got a long way to go to get to Lilycove so I best let my Pokemon rest up at the Center, and get some rest myself

--june 3, 20XX

We were making our way to Lilycove when we came across a group of ghost Pokemon wreaking havoc on the route. With Grumpig taking care of them was easy. But then we find them once again heckling some poor Pokemon and travelers. These Ghosts sure do have a penchant for causing trouble.

--june 3, 20XX

After having to step in once again to stop the ghost Pokemon’s mischief Grumpig has decided to stay behind. She’ll keep those Ghosts in line and protect the other Pokemon on the route. Grumpig has been an invaluable member of the team. I’ll miss her, but I know i’ll see her again.

--june 3, 20XX

I was almost to Lilycove when who should I come across but more Team Aqua grunts. They were plotting something on Mt. Pyre so of course I followed them. I fought my way up to their leader just for him to turn tail and run. They had come for something called a ‘Red Orb’. What they’re planning to do with it, I almost don’t want to know. One of the elders looking after the gravesite gave me the Blue Orb and asked me to go after them. I guess I gotta. Especially since some Grunt is blocking the way to Mossdeep with his Pokemon training.

--june 3, 20XX

I was too late again. I still don’t have any Pokemon who can fly so I had to travel on foot all the way back to Slateport. But Team Aqua had already gotten there first. They hijacked Captain Sterns submarine and took it to their hideout back in Lilycove. I’m going to stop them, whatever it is they’re doing.

--june 4, 20XX

While I was travelling back to Lilycove I came across a Pokemon called Absol. It was incredibly insistent on coming with me. The Pokedex says they rarely come down from the mountains. They only appear to warn people of impending natural disasters. I don’t know how true that is but there’s a sudden feeling of dread in my gut.

--june 4, 20XX

We got to the Aqua hideout. There were grunts every where, doing whatever they could to stop me from reaching their boss. Absol seemed eager to fight them. I made it to the room with the sub and got into a battle with that shirtless guy again. But while we were doing that Archie got away with the sub yet again. I don’t know what else I can do. I can’t possibly chase after a submarine.

--june 4, 20XX

On the way back to Slateport Trapinch evolved into Vibrava. He’s so much faster now and he can fly me places.

I got to the shipyard and told Stern the bad news. I figured it’d be up to him to find a way to retrieve his submarine. But he asked me to travel to Mossdeep to learn Dive. I was pretty much telling him that there was no way I was going under the sea to chase after a submarine. But then Absol popped out of his Pokeball. He barked a few times and was staring at me. I got the gist of what he wanted to say. I guess if the omen of doom thinks I should go after this submarine then I’m heading to Mossdeep.

--june 4, 20XX

The only way to get to Mossdeep is to travel over the sea. I tried to Surf with Zigzagoon but I just couldn’t do it. Crossing such a large sea is so much worse than crossing the gulf, at least back then I could see the land on the other side. I had Zigzagoon carry me back to Lilycove. I’m going to need to get a boat, and there’s still no sign of Mr. Briney anywhere. I hope nothing happened to him.

--june 4, 20XX

One of the locals took pity on me and gave me a ride to Mossdeep on their little sailboat. I got more nervous the further we got out to sea but at least I wasn’t in the water. And I had Mareep there to hold on to.

I found Steven’s house after a got there. When I explained to him what was going on he gave me the HM for Dive. He also told me that i’d have to beat the gym leaders here to use it. Talking to the locals I learned that they were twins who used Psychic types. I’d also have to take them on in a double battle. Absol is a Dark type, i’m sure we can win.

--june 4, 20XX

I might have had a type advantage but they had the advantage of pure strength. My entire team was taken down by just their two. I’ve flown back to the mainland intending to do some more training.

--june 5, 20XX

I woke up in the middle of the night after another nightmare. This one was like the others, but different. Instead I was in Mossdeep. Watching people and Pokemon flee from the quickly rising waters. I woke up to see Absol was also awake, staring at me with a knowing look? I get the feeling these dreams aren’t just dreams.

--june 5, 20XX

We spent all day yesterday and most of the morning training, and it paid off. Using Vibrava’s Crunch and Absol’s Bite I was able to take down Tate and Lisa’s Pokemon. So now i’ve got the badge but none of my Pokemon can learn Dive. I guess it’s about time I use that fishing rod I got.

--june 5, 20XX

I got a Wailmer. With this I should be able to use Dive.
Steven had one more gift for me. A little device that could help me breath underwater.
I can do this. I’ve got to do this.

--june 5, 20XX

I was terrified when Wailmer dove underwater with me. I was clinging onto him as tightly as I could. I didn’t want to open my eyes. But when I did it was incredible. It was so beautiful, and peaceful. Nothing like the raging, dark seas of my nightmares. So many new Pokemon were swimming all around us. Most importantly I didn’t feel afraid.
We’ve found the underwater cavern Stern mentioned now. All that’s left to do is power through every grunt in this place and put a stop to their plans

--june 5, 20XX

This is exactly like my nightmares. I got to the end of the underwater cavern, but Archie was right behind me. The Red Orb started glowing. Kyogre woke up and escaped to the surface. Now a terrible storm is hanging over Sootopolis and growing larger by the minute. Archie and Maxie left to try and put a stop to it. Steven too. They’ve told me to get somewhere safe. That this is too much for a kid to handle. But Absol is urging me forward. I’ve come this far already. I’m not turning tail and running now.

--june 5, 20XX

It was a tough battle, one that nearly took out my whole team. But Kyogre has finally been calmed and has returned to rest. The skies are clear again and the people of Sootopolis are finally out of their homes. Absol popped out of its Pokeball. The look in its eyes was clear. It was time for it to return to its home. The danger it had come to stop was over. He’s been such a huge help through all of this. I’ll miss him. But I hope he never has to come down from the mountains again. Now all that’s left for me to do is challenge Wallace’s gym, and i’ll be ready to take on the Pokemon League.

Spoiler:

--june 7, 20XX

I said goodbye to Wailmer. I couldn't have done this without him. But I just can't care for a Pokemon of that size. I pulled Zigzagoon out of the box, as well as Lileep. Professor Birch was done with his examination and thought the Lileep could benefit from some good training. She's quite the firecracker. Perfect for battles.

--june 7, 20XX

I lost my first attempt at Wallace's gym. It came down to our last Pokemon, but that Milotic is too powerful. I've come back to the mainland to continue training. I decided to take the scenic route and check out a little town called Pacifildog along the way. Their entire town just floats on the water. Fortunately I guess Kyogre's storm didn't spread this far. The locals didn't have anything to say about it at least.

When I got to Slateport I found Mr. Briney at last. He's helping Dock and Captain Stern with their ship. I guess Stern must have gotten his submarine back somehow too. Though he hasn't said anything about it.

--june 7, 20XX

Lileep was too much for me to handle. She was aggressive and unused to people. But I met a trainer far more skilled than me. He was even able to get Lileep to behave, it was incredible. So i've left her with them.

I spent a long while traversing back through previously explored routes and re-battling the trainers there. Now I feel ready to challenge Wallace again.

While walking through the route to Lilycove I detoured to Mt. Pyre to return the blue orb. It seems Archie decided to do the same. He's finally seen the error of his ways. Their secret hideout is gone even. It's good to know they won't be causing anymore trouble for people or pokemon.

--june 7, 20XX

It took a lot of tries, but we've finally earned our last badge. Zigzagoon managed to sweep through 3 of his 5 Pokemon with a combo of Belly Drum and Headbutts. Torkoal was able to finish off Seaking with Strength after it already suffered one of Zigzagoon's Headbutts. Finally it was his Milotic. The Milotic got a hit in with Ice Beam but Gloom was able to land a Sleep Powder on it. She got to heal up nearly all her health with Giga Drain while the Milotic was still sleeping. It woke up but it was too late. Gloom took another Ice Beam and finished Milotic off with Petal Dance. It was incredible. I'm so proud of all my team.

Now that I have all eight badges i'm ready to take on the league. I just can't wait, we're leaving as soon as possible.

--june 8, 20XX

My path to the Pokemon League was blocked by a waterfall, and of course not one of the Pokemon I already have can learn the Waterfall HM. I talked to Professor Birch and learned that the cave north of Mossdeep housed Spheal who could learn the needed HM. It took me a while. They are very fast rollers. But I finally managed to corner one in a room full of ice. I knew those ice skating lessons would pay off some day. Take that dad.

--june 8, 20XX

I can not believe who I just ran into. Wally started his gym challenge so much later than me. Yet here he is, caught up with me on Victory road. He challenged me to a battle. He's gotten so much stronger since the last time we battled. I managed to take down a few of his Pokemon but that Gardevoir of his had a powerful Psychic. Nurse Joy is taking care of my Pokemon now. I wonder how Wally is doing against the Elite Four.

--june 8, 20XX

I met up with Wally again at the end of Victory road. He had lost against Sydney and was doing some extra training in the cavern. I challenged him to a rematch and won this time. Now it's my turn to have a go at the Elite Four. I'll send Spheal over to the professor. She'd get crushed if I had to send her out in battle.

--june 8, 20XX

Just won my battle against Sydney. His Mighteyena took down my Torkoal but Flygon was able to take the opposing Pokemon down. Mareep took care of his Sharpedo, and Flygon won against every other Pokemon he sent out.

I couldn't beat Phoebe. I was able to take out her first three Pokemon. But she had already driven me down to my last one. I didn't stand a chance.

--june 9, 20XX

We were able to get past Phoebe’s team with the help of Flygon and Torkoal. But encountered another obstacle with Glacia. Glalie went down to Torkoal’s Flamethrower no problem. But her Sealeo’s were tough, even with Mareep’s Electric attacks. Then her Walrien came out. I couldn’t even land a hit on it. It took down all of my Pokemon. We’ll definitely need more training.

--june 11, 20XX

I decided to fight fire with fire. Well ice with ice actually. I got Spheal back from professor Birch and began training her alongside the rest of my team. We spent a few days building up her strength, and the strength of my other Pokemon. Finally we were ready to battle the Elite Four again.

When we got to Glacia Torkoal took out her Glalie yet again. Then she sent out her Sealeo. I sent Spheal out against it. Spheal might not have had the power of her Sealeo but that’s not what I needed. What I needed was for Spheal to tank it’s attacks and paralyze it with Body Slam. Which she pulled off beautifully. Allowing Mareep to take down the opponent easily. We did the same with the next Sealeo. Except Mareep was taken out while his opponent was still hanging on. But Flygon made quick work of things with Dragon Breath. Instead of Walrein she next sent out another Glalie which I battled with Torkoal. When she sent her Walrein out I sent out Spheal. It didn’t seem like Spheal would be able to do much, but she managed to hold on long enough to paralyze the Walrein. I sent everything I had out against this thing but in the end it was Zigzagoon who landed the finishing blow with Headbutt. It was such a close match. We were both down to our last Pokemon, and while I love Zigzagoon, he’s not exactly the sturdiest member on my team.

Next was Drake. Spheal was able to take down both of his Flygon’s all on her own with Ice Beam. Flygon took care of the rest with his newly learned Dragon Claw. All that’s left now is the Champion.

--june 12, 20XX

We did it! We really did it! We beat the champion! I still can't believe Steven was the champion. But we won! It came down to his Armaldo and my Flygon. Flygon really pulled through for us. I'm so proud of him. I'm so proud of all my team. They gave it there all and it paid off. Brendan rushed in after the battle to give me some tips. Ha. The look on his face when he realized i'd already beaten the champion.

It's been a long, crazy journey. Me and my team have been through a lot. But it was all worth it. I can't wait to get home and tell mom and dad all about my league challenge.

Final Team:
Torkoal, level 53
Flygon, level 55
Zigzagoon, level 51
Gloom, level 50
Spheal, level 47
Mareep, level 51

Finally. Steven was definitely frustrating. Dude used 3 Full Restores just on his Claydol. 3 Full Restores in one battle on one Pokemon. He only used 1 Full Restore to save his Aggron so I guess we know who he loves more. Only beat his Armaldo because I finally got lucky with a critical hit.

This was a fun challenge though! Even if the Elite Four and Champion nearly made me rip my hair out.
