Summer Glory Festival [Serebii vs PokCommunity]
Summer Glory Festival The competition Assemble battlers of PokCommunity! We gather together this summer for fun to test our skills against another community. Twelve to sixteen participants will meet a player from the other community for a single elimination battle. The side with the most wins will be declared the victor of the festival! First, in order to determine fair pairings, both sides have agreed to conduct a competition to seed the players to allow for comparable players to meet in battle. Give it your all, and represent your community proudly!http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/Kevin_Garrett/Tretta_Forest_Festival_location_zpsbfgzbtx5.pnghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/Kevin_Garrett/Tretta_Ruins_Festival_location_zpstg3ltwio.png Serebii (6) VS PokCommunity (6) 1. Discussion with the tournaments staff on Serebii resulted in a decision to make this a 12-player competition. We currently have 9 players registered, so we only need 3 more before we can proceed with our group phase. I will continue to accept sign-ups after we reach 12 in the event that we need a substitute.
Some of their members have been in contact on here and the Discord chat. BGP_ is one of the members who will be heading the construction of Serebii's team. |
I would LOVE to participate in this!! Please consider adding me to the list!
|
And I'll be number twelve
|
Both sides agreed to only select members with join dates as recent as 4/2017 and older as an additional measure of fairness (to prevent recruitment). We still need one more member to start our group phase.

Count me in!! ????????{:3}

FriskInUndertalw: Welcome to PokeCommunity. The event only permits members who have been registered for at least 3 months. However, there are other exciting events coming up soon, like the PokeCommunity League that you would be interested in participating in.
Now that we have 12 players, we can proceed to the group phase. Using the PCL Elo rating (see below), I applied the top 9 players in this rankings by snaking them into our three groups. Since I was the only player without an Elo rating, I randomized the groups of myself along with two others using a random number generator to fill them out. Spoiler:

Good game Sam. Looks like I need to sharpen my game; that was a poor showing.
Serebii just got their line-up selection process underway. You can follow it in this thread if you're interested: http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?658695-Cross-Forum-Tournament-Event-with-Pok%E9community-Summer-Glory-Festival Edit: Marshadow is now BANNED. It will not be legal for the tournament since the only match played did not see its usage and the player base has not fully adopted it anyway. |

Hey everyone, Smogon's server was specified as the best place for completing your battles, since Rukario was having technical difficulties with updating our server. Though we were expecting that to last for about a month, it has been fixed now! Our server has been updated with Mega Lopunny, Gardevoir, and Gallade.

I got a win against Nah. Good game, much closer than it looked.

Tournament Update: We are nearing 72 hours left in the group phase! We only have three matches that need completion (see below). Please schedule and play these games at your earliest convenience.
FireSnow vs. Aaron wolf vs. Noa Aurora vs. Decidueye There are a number of ties, which up until now, I have not specified a process for determining. Since Serebii is a good week behind us in their tournament, we will likely hold additional matches. However, I will wait until all of the initial group phase matches are completed to ensure the most efficient way for finalizing our results. |
|
this seeding round has held some exciting matches!

Group phase is just about coming to a close! Aurora vs. Decidueye is still outstanding and the deadline has passed. I will give that match until 7/22 Saturday 11:59 EDT to be completed before I coin flip the outcome! If possible, complete it before that time.
The group results will largely determine the seeding of our team we put up against Serebii. Here is an outline on the order of factors that will be applied to the seeding: [1] Rank outcome within the group [1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th], [2] Individual record, and [3] Head-to-head record. Therefore, with a number 1 group rank and a 3-0 record, Choice Specs earns the top seed. The Waterfront and Foot Groups both have ties at 2-1 (the latter will when the final match is decided). The tie in the Foot Group will be able to be determined using individual head-to-head record between the two participants. However, the Waterfront Group has a three-way tie without an individual head-to-head advantage, so that will be sorted out through a round robin. gimmepie vs. Sam1994 gimmepie vs. Kevin Garrett Sam1994 vs. Kevin Garrett Deadline: 7/27 Thursday 12:00 EDT The winner of the round robin will be given the number 2 seed by virtue of a 4-1 record. The player with the head-to-head advantage from the Foot Group will be given the number 3 seed by virtue of a 2-1 record and group rank of 1st. The player who splits matches in the round robin will be given the number 4 seed by virtue of a 3-2 record. The loser of the round robin will be given the number 5 seed. The player with the head-to-head disadvantage from the Foot Group will be given the number 6 seed since that will formally drop their group rank to 2nd. Aaron is ranked 2nd in a group with a 3-0 player and will therefore be given the number 7 seed. Moving to the 1-2 records, we have Dragon ranked 3rd in his group. There will be a player ranked 3rd with the head-to-head advantage in the Foot Group (Aurora or wolf). As such, the fourth match needed is the following: Dragon vs. TBA (Aurora or wolf) Deadline: 7/27 Thursday 12:00 EDT The winner of this match will earn the number 8 seed and the loser will take the number 9 seed. Depending upon the outcome of the final group phase match, Decidueye or wolf will then assume the number 10 seed. To determine the number 11 and 12 seeds, the following match will take place: FireSnow vs. Nah Deadline: 7/27 Thursday 12:00 EDT For a summary of the possible seeding outcomes, see the spoiler tag. Decision After a month of competition, the Summer Glory Festival is coming to a close. With both communities each having notched six victories, no clear winner could be determined. In lieu of a sudden death tiebreaker, both sides have agreed to a DRAW. Thanks to all of the participants for representing your communities well. Perhaps there will be future installments of 'Glory Festival' down the line in which this competition may ultimately be decided or other communities challenged. |
