To Evolve or not to Evolve, that is the question!

Do u always Evolve your Pokemon to their Final Stage (if they can evolve), or are there any you like to keep to their Basic/Second Stages? If so, why?

The only Pokémon I will not evolve is Pumpkaboo, because I find its evolution terribly ugly, while Pumpkaboo is like, the best. Otherwise, Power > Everything. I enjoy powerful Pokémon but cute/beautiful, so I choose my team accordingly. That's also why I didn't pick Litten as my starter, Incineroar is so....cringe

BlazingCobaltX August 3rd, 2017 4:22 AM

The only Pokémon I considered not evolving were Flaaffy and Rowlet, because I prefer these stages. I did evolve both of them in my respective teams because I needed the power boost, but I might do a Flaaffy-only run someday.

LegendChu August 3rd, 2017 9:06 AM

I never evolve Pikachu. Even if I do, it has to be a second Pikachu I catch, just for Dex completion sake. A Pikachu with a Light Ball is better than a Raichu imo.

I usually do always evolve my Pokemon to their final stage, even if I prefer them in their previous evolutions. The only exception is if I can't actually evolve them until a certain point in the game, otherwise I do it as soon as possible.

Flowerchild August 3rd, 2017 11:27 AM

I always evolve them and I only discovered the Eviolite relatively recently so maybe next time I have a Rhydon or Porygon2 or something I'll try not evolving them and using that. There are a lot of cute Pokémon with horrible evolutions that I regretted evolving, though.

Firox August 3rd, 2017 11:43 AM

Most times I have my team planned out before starting, so I know which ones to evolve.
so the one where I haven't evolved one is my current Pokemon Moon team, where I'm playing an Eeveelution team - so one Eevee I won't evolve

Newer games, I go just for the ones I like the design more, will likely evolve

Maserati777 August 3rd, 2017 12:18 PM

Mostly just stuff that evolves in later generations, mainly just gen 4 evolutions actually. I like all of the gen 2 evolutions of gen 1 Pokemon, but am not a fan of a lot of the gen 4 evolutions of gen 1 Pokemon. Tangrowth, Electivire, Magmortar...

LegendChu August 4th, 2017 1:03 AM

As much as I like cuter pre-evos of a lot of Pokemon, from a game point of view, it does make sense to evolve Pokemon to their final stages, to get maximum usage out of them.

I tend to fully evolve them bar Chansey and Porygon2 due to Eviolite. Also, the non-final stage Pokemon from my living dex so I can use those base stages to fill in a new game dex if I need to.

Pretty much the same. Before I start a game, I'm already decided on which Pokemon are eventually gonna be my final 6, so I concentrate more on training/evolving them. For the rest, well 'cheat codes' lol :P.

I very often evolve the pokemon I'm planning to use in battles but sometimes I don't want to evolve certain pokemon such as Buneary or Pumpkaboo. They can stay at their cutest forever! There are also some pokemon that I feel like don't need evolving (some of the ones that won't evolve with an item or leveling up) like Rhydon since I'm not exactly a fan of Rhyperior.

Oh come on, Incineroar is like the best Final Stage evo, among all the Alolan Starters :|.

Rhydon is one Pokemon that I've considered not evolving, I like it a bit more than Rhyperior (but I mostly did evolve it :P). There are lots of Pokemon I regretted evolving as well, but you have to go for the best team, the stronger the Pokemon the better, so I did it anyways.

I always evolve mine unless I'm adding them to my living Dex. The only other time was when I got a shiny Meowth (normal) and found that there was hardly a difference when I evolved it, so I soft reset my game so I could keep the nicer Meowth.

Same with me, although if I am going for a living Dex, I use other methods ;). Unless I'm doing a mono run, I almost always try to get my Pokemon to their Final Stages.

Shin Orochi Evil Arsenicc August 10th, 2017 8:12 PM

Some mons are pretty good on their 2nd stage that in some cases they are better than their final one.

Larvitar and Shellgon are two of my faves for that.

Meganium August 10th, 2017 8:20 PM

Dragonair is the only Pokemon I refuse to evolve because I don't like it when it changes from beautiful blue weather snake to CHARIZARD 2.0. lol

strangerhypno August 11th, 2017 1:38 PM

Only if I really like the basic or second stage, like Porygon2 which is good with the eviolite or Gligar.

Aisu August 11th, 2017 3:14 PM

Because I really liked the designs, I didn't evolve Dragonair and Warturtle, but I still do pretty well with them online.

Sheep August 12th, 2017 5:48 PM

In the story mode I usually evolve all of them since my story mons get boxed afterwards anyway ^^ And I like experiencing new forms. Later on when I start breeding and working towards good IVs/EVs I'll leave my favorites unevolved and train them that way, since by then I just want to have pokémon I love on my team, more than evolving them for the stats haha.

There is no way I won't evolve a Larvitar into a Tyranitar, that thing is a beast & its has a great ability.

Oh come on, Dragonite is actually one of the cutest final stage Dragon Types :).

I have tried this more than once, having a full team of basic stage Pokemon :P. Its actually not that much of a problem, if you train them well & have good type coverage, but of course for most runs, I do evolve almost every Pokemon on my team, to its final stage.

Alakazam17 August 14th, 2017 12:15 PM

I usually always evolve them. However after I have every fullt evolved Pokémon trained and ready to battle, I sometimes switch to training NFE's. I once raised a Metapod(which I named Butternut), EV trained it, and leveled it to 50

Cool_Porygon August 16th, 2017 3:07 AM

I always evolve, even though so many Pokemon are cuter in the first/second stage.

KNS27 August 16th, 2017 3:26 AM

The only Pokemon I refuse to Evolve is Dewott.Samurott design is Great. But I more Prefer Dewott.

Radiating August 16th, 2017 8:23 PM

I always evolve my Pokemon for the power boost, and the extra availability of some moves. They also do look a lot cooler in their final form.

Jonothon August 17th, 2017 3:44 AM

If anyone here evolves their Magmar, Electabuzz or Togetic, then you have bad taste. :^)

Jk, I just really like those three design-wise. They look so cool, then when they evolve they become... Eh. :/
