Part 1

Well, I figured I should do a quick update tonight in case I forget everything I did tomorrow or something.

Basically, I started this challenge yesterday. I have already planned my team, and I should add that it will turn out to have pretty overused members (what would you expect of mega evolutions anyway?), but it will be fun and challenging, hopefully. Well, my first team member wouldn't become available until after we reach Santalune City, so I did a speedrun through the introduction and half an hour later I was able to catch a male Riolu, named Anubis.

Now I think this first part will be one of the most difficult in the entire playthrough, because I had to fight Viola with a pure Fighting-type Pokémon. It wasn't so difficult of a battle overall, Counter is a really convenient move at this stage of the game.

Moving on to Route 4, a new member joined the team. A female Ralts, called Mana. I trained a bit there and went to Lumiose after that.

There, after battling Sycamore in his lab, the third and final member who joined in this chapter makes his debut! It's Squirtle! She was named Calliope and, after an undesirable encounter with Lysandre, we went training on the next Route. Squirtle and Ralts lost a few battles but they were able to keep up decently with my slightly overlevelled Riolu.

Going through Camphrier Town to Route 6, I faced the hardest and most frustrating battle in my challenge so far. Can you figure out which one it is before I can tell? Here's a gist of it:

These guys managed to defeat me 2 times (one of them I actually reset lol), and I got lucky on my third attempt, but I was already expecting this battle to be hard, to be honest. Those are some overpowered Furfrous. Calliope also evolved into Wartortle a few battles earlier.

Anyway, I paused my journey after that and I'll see if I can make more progress tomorrow.

Part 2

Decided to make a quick af update here because many important things happened! Well, maybe not a lot, but I revived, yes, revived my fourth team member: Aerodactyl! Wasn't so hard to grind for an Old Amber, guess I got lucky with the Rock Smashs.

Also important, I grabbed the green bicycle.

And last, but not least, we defeated Grant! The battle was easier than Viola's. Wartortle two-shot Amaura with Rock Smash and Riolu took care of Tyrunt with no problems - If you don't consider hang on with 1 HP after a Rock Tomb/Stomp combination a problem.

Flair of Flare in Pokémon X

https://i.imgur.com/ZQFl2eq.png?1

PART 2

Okay, let's continue. I caught Skorupi and decided to train it. But Route 14 is one of the worst Routes to grind Bug/Poison Pokémon. So I got only few levels on Skorupi, but luckily it learned Toxic Spikes, which proved to be essential in beating Valerie. Her Gym was kinda hard, because my main weapon Skorupi was underleveled and my other Pokémon were Dark-Types. Valerie herself wasn't that hard, because she has Mawile and Mr. Mime. Both are weak against my Houndoom, so I didn't had to use Skorupi for them. But I set Toxic Spikes at the start of the battle so I can beat her Sylveon later. And it was right strategy as I stalled with Gyarados and Skorupi until her Sylveon fainted.

Next part was okay. I was slowly leveling my team by beating Team Flare and finally got to Anistar City and next Gym. With 3 Dark-Types. Yeah, it was easy.

Finally, I got to Lysandre labs where I barely beat Lysandre. His Mienfoo had advantage against most of my team and his Gyarados had better movepool that mine. This run is starting to be interesting...

Part 3

Yeah, this is the point I'm starting to feel a bit concerned about having underlevelled Pokémon, losing to a random trainer isn't good at all.

And yes, this is Frost Cavern. Considerable progress since last time, no? Decided to make a bigger segment this time as always plus I was kinda lazy to make a new update post.

Anyways, from last time, I beat Korrina in Geosenge Town and it was a quite challenging battle, I admit. Didn't have much against her Lucario's except my own fighting type Pokémon.

Her actual Leader battle was easier though, I had a recently fully evolved Gardevoir in my team and a few Confusions were enough to sweep her team away. I actually got disappointed she didn't use a Lucario in that battle, but I guess that's good for variety. (Also, fun fact: This is my very first playthrough of Pokémon X!)

Got the Lucarionite from the Tower of Mastery and now Lucario is able to Mega-Evolve!

In Coumarine City (Which by the way has an amazing theme song), Ramos, the Gym Leader, unfortunately, had to face a very strong Aerodactyl with good Flying-type moves, which are not his favorites I suppose.

On the Route below, Riley, the female Gible, joined the team! And also almost instantly evolved into a Gabite!

We beat some guys in the Power Plant and went back to Lumiose to challenge Clemont.

Easy puzzle, easy battle. Was a really convenient time to have just caught a Ground-type.

In Route 14, the 6th and final member of my team was found! Haunter! I named her Muriel.

At the end of the Route, I decided to grind my Pokémon a little for the Gym Battle. I was a bit concerned about them being too underlevelled. Was a pretty decent battle, I'm glad I had recently taught Muriel Toxic so I was able to inflict extra damage on her Sylveon, always good.

Pokéball Factory drama aside, I'm now on my way to Anistar City to battle the 7th gym leader. And as I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I am concerned about my Pokémon's current levels, so I'll probably train a bit more.

Also I just realized I forgot to mention my Pokémon's abilities in the previous posts!

Flair of Flare in Pokémon X

FINAL PART

And here comes the last update for Flare of Flair. After beating Lysandre I had no problems beating rest of the Team Flair, but it took longer that I tough because I had exactly same Pokémon as them. And finally, it was time to catch another team member - Xerneas. Yeah, it's overpowered legendary, but it's also new experience for me. And it's another step in my goal of using every single Pokémon. Coverage for my whole team is also nice. It proved itself right in the next battle with Lysandre. I had advantage at least. Lysandre had no chance even with Mega Gyarados. But I'll only use Xerneas if necessary.

Well, at this point my team is almost complete and I have most of the types covered. And Wulfric is next. I was confident about the battle and won without any problems with Houndoom and Scrafty beating his Ice-Types. And so I was almost ready for the Elite Four.

But first I had to get through the most boring location in every Pokémon game - Victory Road. But it's also where my last Pokémon is located. It took me a while to catch Druddigon, mostly because I forgot to buy Ultra or Dusk Balls and had only Pokéballs and some other useless balls. But caught it in one of the last Pokéballs. I spent some time in here leveling and end up with little bit overleveled Scrafty.

It's time for E4! I started with Malva and my ace for this battle Gyarados barely beat Pyroar and then instantly lost against Torkoal. That's a good start! Also for some reason I though I will be overleveled, but Kalos' E4 is stronger that I though. Malva fight was harder that I expected.

Siebold, my favourite member of the E4 is next. This time, I'm going all in! I'll use Xerneas. Thanks god for Horn Leech. After setting up one Geomancy and getting rid of confusion form Clawitzer's Water Pulse, I was able to sweep Siebold's whole team. Yep, that was overkill. Back to using my regular team.

Wikstrom! I start with Houndoom and my plan of setting up Nasty Plot and sweep surprisingly worked.

I know I said I won't use Xerneas if not necessary, but I think Drasna is worth it. And... Xerneas lost against Dragalge, which wasn't really surprising. No revives, I'll beat her even without Fairy-Type Pokémon. Druddigon beat Dragalge, but ended up in the yellow HP zone, so I switched to Scrafty for Altaria. Rock Smash was powerful, but Altaria survived with about 1 HP, only to beat Scrafty with Moonblast. I realized that Gyarados has Ice Fang, so I switched to it and finished Altaria and beat Noivern and then fainted against Druddigon. I finished the battle with Drapion.

And now, for a Champion battle! I had to heal before that though. Good old Hawlucha is 1st! And it poisoned my Gyarados with her 1st hit. Her fossil Pokémon is next. Aurorus is down after 1 Brick Break from Scrafty. Then battle of Dragons - Goodra vs Druddigon. It did not went well, but Houndoom finished the job. Second fossil Pokémon is coming and so is my fossil killer Scrafty. No chance of losing here. Gourgeist is next and so is my Houndoom. And with that, I have 5 Pokémon ready to fight Mega Gardevoir. And it went really well. Houndoom left her in red HP zone, but Diantha used Full Restore. I sent out Drapion next and barely tanked Moonblast, but still managed to beat her.

Final battle with AZ was quite easy, there really isn't much to say about it.

And with that, I beat E4. Here's Hall of Fame:

So, with this Challenge completed, I should probably pick another one from my Bingo. I'm not sure which one to do now. I would like to start doing Sinnoh ones, but none of them really appeals to me right now. I have a team planned for In-Order Challenge and move picked for Signature Move, but I'm not sure if I want to do any of them right now. Well, I'll see...

Part 4 / Final

I trained my Pokémon after that little incident in Frost Cavern and now they're all lv. 45 (Except for maybe one), I'm ready to challenge Olympia.

That was the moment I realized how easy these gym leaders are with no more than 3 Pokémon. That Mienshao trainer at Frost Cavern was way more challenging than this.

Real quick destroyed Team Flare's plan and I went to Snowbelle City to get my last gym badge. The puzzle was entertaining, I admit. Sadly, I can't say the same for the actual battle.

With all gym badges, it's time to head to the Pokémon League! I taught that ace trainer blocking my way a lesson and entered Victory Road. Got a bit lost in the cave, but was pretty straightforward. I trained my Pokémon a bit more and finally reached the League.

My first Elite Four opponent was Malva. Her Fire types were no match for a Garchomp!

Next opponent, Wikstrom. His Steel types were no match for a Garchomp!

Drasna's battle lasted a little bit more because I led with the wrong Pokémon, but that's pretty much it.

Now Siebold. I accidentaly let his Gyarados use Dragon Dance and sweep my whole team in the first match, but other than that no problem! I Thunderbolted his ass away in the second attempt.

The only reason I trained my Pokémon before challenging the Elite Four was because of my concerns regarding the battle with Diantha. I took a look at her team in Bulbapedia and saw a lot of coverage in her Pokémon, plus a level 68 Gardevoir who was able to Mega-evolve. Although the actual battle was not at all challenging. I think only one or two of my Pokémon fainted during that, and I think her Gardevoir would have swept my team had I not have Mega evolved my Gengar early on, but we're fine. Hall of Fame!

Like Janp, I won't even mention AZ's battle here. Compared to the Elite Four and the Champion, it was a piece of cake.

Not sure which move I'll take now, probably something in Sinnoh again because I want to play Renegade Platinum in this Challenge some time. But I'm also looking at Hoenn and Johto's ones.

Okay, so I finally started working on my Sinnoh column. I wanted to do Signature Move with interesting not-so-common move and still had balanced team. Originally I wanted to do Counter or Mirror Coat, but I don't feel like using any of these two now. So I spent about an hour browsing list of moves and picked several, only to find out that most Pokémon, that could learn them are available only through Poké Radar.

In the end, I decided to go with Curse, as it's only ???-Type +it works differently when used by Ghost-Type Pokémon than any other Type and that enough is interesting for me to build a team around it. Then I spent some time thinking about naming theme. But it was much faster that picking up the move. I found few famous curses and decided to name my Pokémon after them.

Now, let's start the game! I picked Turtwig as my starter, as it learns Curse at level 17. I named him Kennedy, after Kennedy Curse - which is a term for a series of deaths and calamities involving members of the American Kennedy family. I could catch Bidoof, but I used it recently, so I only caught it as HM Slave. I continued up to the Oreburgh City and Oreburgh Mine, where I caught Onix. It learns Curse at level 38, so it will take a while. His name is Gillette, after Gillette Curse - given the mishaps that happen to sports stars which are associated with the brand, most notably Tiger Woods, Thierry Henry and David Beckham.

Oreburgh Gym was easy. There were no problems and I swept Roark's team with Turtwig.

Few Routes later, I stop at Eterna Forest, caught Gastly, this time Female, so I picked name Pele for her. Pele's curse is tied to Hawaii, but I don't think I'll use any Alola Pokémon in Sinnoh, so I just went with 1st Female for it. With the advantage of ultimate healing I grinded few levels and finally went to challenge Gardenia. I was quite confident in beating her, but I had pretty bad RNG, resulting in my Pokémon being paralyzed too often and her Pokémon always hitting mine when confused. I almost beat her. Her Roserade was on red HP and it could be over, if only she hit herself. But she was able to use Magical Leaf and take down Gastly, resulting in my lost.

So I immediately went back, this time using strategy! I set Stealth Rock with Onix, let it faint against her Turtwig and then used my Grotle. And set my +6 to Attack and Defense via Curse! Yay! Extremely slow, but hitting hard, I was able to beat Gardenia.

Part 1 - Vegansaurus

I finally started the first challenge from my Johto column! I chose to do Monoletter first because the other two seem too tiring.

The letter I chose was M, and by that, you can probably already guess which Pokémon I'll be using, since there's not much in the Johto Pokédex that starts with that. What I can tell you is: I will need to solo the first few gyms with my starter, because the team I'm planning is quite late available.

The starter was of course Chikorita. I gave this leafsaurus its chance. Chikorita doesn't start with M, but its final form, Meganium, does. I decided against naming my Pokémon this time around because I thought this would ruin the essence of the challenge, I dunno.

This challenge will also be fully recorded! Well, not really. But the gym battles and champion and such will. I'll post the fights along with my updates, in case anyone's actually interested in watching.

Falkner - Battle Video:
Spoiler:

Anyways, to the game. The first actual major battle here is Falkner, and his Pokémon have an obvious advantage against my Grass type. Fortunately, the only thing he has that stand a chance against me is Gust, and that's not that great of a move, especially for the Pidgey line. The battle wasn't hard, just full of healing spam in both sides.

Bugsy - Battle Video:
Spoiler:

Bugsy's battle was actually really annoying, as you would expect. The strategy I came up with was to raise Bayleef's defense with an X Defend and Reflect, and then Poisoning his Scyther. But every time I used those defense moves he used Leer. I thought it was time to change strategies, but a Razor Leaf crit right at the end saved my night. I love those raised critical hits ratios!

I'll stop for now because it's really late and I just decided to make an update now. Here's my current """"""Team"""""".

Me and Herb went through Nugget Bridge, after beating Gary. Did the Bill stuff. Headed south to Vermillion City. Traded a Spearow for team member number 2: Dux the Farfetch’d.
Grinded out to the side of Vermillion, SS Anne and Diglett Cave to get some levels on Dux. Whilst doing this, Herb evolved into Venusaur. Swept through Gary using Dux after setting up a Swords Dance.
Got Cut, Flash, pokemon to use those moves, and took on Surge’s Gym. Breezed through with Herb. Then headed to Dark Cave. Dux became disobedient. Raced through Dark Cave, through Lavender Town to Celadon City. In Celadon, I got Cindy the Eevee and evolved it into Flareon. Then took on the Celadon Gym. Took on Erika, Cindy was taken out by Victreebel, however Dux then swept through the team.

Well, it's time to update. It has been a while since the last update, mostly because I spent eternity in Solaceon Town. Why? I'll get to that later.

So I had to beat Fantina first. If I remember the fight correctly, steamrolled Duskull and then set up +6 Curse on Grotle. Mismagius was rather easy with this boost. And so was Barry's fight right after this. I think I've used the same strategy and even Gastly's own Curse to beat Barry's Monferno quickly.

And after that I finally got to Solaceon Town. I was looking for this town for one reason: Day Care. There aren't many Pokémon that can learn Curse naturally in Platinum, so I have to breed some. And luckily I have right Pokémon to do so. I quickly went to Route 215 to catch Lickitung, then realized I don't have Pokéballs, so had to make another round to Solaceon Town and back to Route 215. After a while I finally got female Lickitung and started breeding. My 1st ever breeding in Gen IV. And the result is Braganzas. Named after the Curse of the Braganzas. Now, for another member of my team - Chimecho. This was a little bit harder. First I had to find both male and female Chingling in Mt. Coronet, raise them to Chimecho, then breed the male one with Pele to get male Gastly, level it up to level 17 so it can learn Curse and then breed it with female Chimecho to finally get Loathly. Named after Loathly Lady. That's all the breeding for now.

And so I grinded on the way to Veilstone City. Few of my Pokémon evolved and I challenged local Gym. Loathly was my ace against Maylene and I beat her with little help from Kennedy. I continued to Pastoria City and was sure I can beat Crasher Wake just with Kennedy, but then I almost wiped on Gyrarados and its Waterfall flinches. Crasher Wake sent Floatzel as his 2nd Pokémon and I was prepared to beat him. But his Floatzel used Ice Fang and took down Kennedy in 1 hit. It took me another 3 attempts and a lot of luck to beat Gyarados before it can tear my team apart and then put Floatzel to sleep just for enough turns for Kennedy to beat it. Quagsire was just a pushover. And with this win I saved the game.

No problem. Is Medicham better? According to walkthroughs it should be available halfway through the game.

This part took place about a week ago, so I might forget some details.
After beating Crasher Wake I continued on the story. Cyrus wasn't hard to beat. His Dark-types are immune to or even super effective against most of my team, but Curse strategy was enough this time.

I skipped most of the optional routes and got to Canalave City. Battle with Barry was okayish. If I recall correctly his Heracross surprised me as I didn't have any counter. Battle with Byron was laughable. I didn't even need to set up Curse on Torterra to beat his team. During this time I also went back to Wayward Cave for Earthquake TM and Metal Coat on Iron Island, which means I can evolve Onix to Steelix.

I had problems during Lake arc, mostly because I didn't heal between the battles and without many healing items in my bag I encountered some hard battles. Especially battle with Mars. Her Purugly was annoying.

Candice battle! I don't remember much about this battle, but I think I won easily even with almost no super-effective moves.

Now this is when it got hard. From this point onward, Team Galactic Admins has not only better Pokémon with better movesets, but also are also effective against my main hitter - Torterra. So Team Galactic HQ in Veilstone City and Mt. Coronet were pretty annoying locations. But I somehow manage to clear it in the end. I think Barry had to use his 3rd Pokémon during double battle against Mars and Jupiter. Cyrus battle in Distortion World was hard and I had to restart it several times. I couldn't even use my Curse strategy, because his Pokémon hit really hard.

Now with this part over, I could move to the easy stuff again. I don't even think mentioning Volkner is necessary as I had 2 Ground-types on my team. Let's move to the funny stuff. I decided to get my last Pokémon when I got to the league. I wanted Water-type, so let's list every Pokémon that can learn Curse - Slowpoke, Bidoof, Vaporeon, Lapras, Wooper, Corsola, Mudkip, Wailmer, Spheal and Shellos. I can only get few and I used most of them recently, so only viable choice is Wooper. And so I'm in the process of breeding one right now.

So I received my card almost 1,5 years ago, so uhhh... I guess it's time to do some updates?

Kanto Mono Letter G
I believe I started this challenge around the time I got the card, but quickly lost interest and only did a bunch of Platinum solos ever since. Recently I got the itch to play pokemon again though, so I came back to it and finished what I started. the run wasn't probably as welcoming as I hoped, but I still had fun :tongue-poke:. Hopefully the itch will last for a bit :D

I spent some time breeding my last Pokémon - Wooper. I had to catch not only female Wooper, but also male bidoof and train it to level 53, where it learns Curse. So it took me a while. But I can finally challenge the league.

First of is battle with Barry before the E4. My team isn't really good at killing Normal and Bug Pokémon, so I had to improvise. Braganzas took down Snorlax and Kennedy with Gillete took down Heracross. The rest of the team was easy.

Right after this fight I had to battle Aaron. The master of Bug-types. So you can imagine the struggle I had with this battle. Vespiquen was really annoying to take down. I put Curse on it and even tried to set Braganzas with Curse, but the queen wouldn't let me do it. And she healed herself all the time. Even his Scizor was easier. But I won in the end even with decimated team.

Bertha and Flint on the other hand were easy. My strongest Pokémon countered them and these two fights were over quickly. Lucian was a little bit harder, but not as hard as Aaron. My Ghost-type was weak to Psychic moves and my Psychic-type was weaker than his Pokémon. But once again, I won with combined effort of everyone.

And finally, Cynthia battle. I always look forward this battle, because Cynthia's team is just great. I wish GF would return to this time, where Champion not only had 4 moves on every Pokémon, but the moveset actually made sense. I was afraid of her Togekiss and Garchomp the most. I started with Gillete and almost took down her Spiritomb with an Earthquake. I decided to use Stone Edge just in case it would switch and this prediction turned out to be the right one and her Togekiss lost most of its HP going into the battle. So that was nice. Another rock shot from Gillete knocked it down.

Her next Pokémon was Milotic, which surprised me by taking down Kennedy with one critical Ice Beam. I sent out Dutchman and Cynthia switched to Roserade, which took down Dutchman, after he damaged it with Earthquake. Loathly then finished it and even stood against her Lucario. But she was too slow to it. Lucario then took down Braganzas, before loosing to Pele. Pele then finished Cynthia's Spiritomb and Milotic.

And then it really started. Cynthia sent out Garchomp. It quickly cut down Pele, Gillette and Dutchman, some of them not even touched it. The others only managed to hit it thanks to it recharging from Giga Impact. I revived Kennedy and was able to land a hit, when Garchomp was recharging and then survived Dragon Rush and won me the battle.
Just look at this screen:

Oh and here's the screen right after that:

So with that, I finished my first Sinnoh Challenge in this Bingo. I really enjoyed it and it was first Sinnoh run in a while that I was looking forward to continue in. Also probably the first time I enjoyed Sinnoh altogether. And while I would like to continue with finishing this Bingo (in September it'll be 2 years since I started it), I have on-going runs in all the regions, so I'll put this on hold 'till I finish my Shiny Badge Quest in Ultra Moon, Time Warp in X, SetLocke in Black 2, Random Challenge in Soul Silver, EliminationLocke in Omega Ruby and Randomized Nuzlocke in Fire Red. So yeah, it will take a while. But I might hop on this challenge again if I'll feel like starting one of my remaining challenges.

Well, I've just finished my first challenge! The Duo-Species challenge in Leaf Green is officially complete! Honestly, it was a lot easier than I was expecting. The hardest times I had were right after I deposited my ivysaur HM slave because getting clefairy up to a usable level that early, with no switch training, was not easy. And then I wasted forever at the game corner trying to get enough coins to get the TMs I wanted. But in the end, my team pulled through for me, and I made it through the entire elite four using I think three full restores total, maybe four? And I didn't have to touch my revives at all.

So I'm calling it a wrap, well done me. :] Onto the next challenge!

Usually it's up to you (same with Monotypes, Signature moves, ...). But if you want recommendations, Yellow Monocolor sounds interesting for Johto games.

So I will use yellow, solo with pikachu, with dragonite and a jolteon in the team, but won't use them~
Now, though, I don't know if my scramble is going to allow the link style in sinnoh, I am sorry if I am bothering you, but this is so I get everything down before I get on that region...

Don't worry, you're not bothering anyone. Each challenge on the bingo is supposed to be played on one save. For example, in your Johto part, you'll beat the game once with Monocolor rules, once with Signature Move rules, once with Solo Run and once with Champion rules.

OK, I took such a long break from a forum, that I got out of the habit of doing updates after completing the challenge. I'm too used to just completing the challenge and moving on to the next one :P. Soooooooo here are a couple of updates (I have some more completed, but I don't want to flood this post even more):

Pick-A-Route in Sapphire
Decided to go with Petalburg Woods on this one as it's quite early and it let me have quite diverse team. Pretty fun

Love at First Sight in Platinum
This challenge was a bit frustrating as I kept getting either Bidoofs and the like or pokemon that I already planned to use in other challenges. Because of that I decided on my final team member only in Snowpoint City, but other than that it was quite enjoyable challenge.

Also I have a question about some of my remaining challenges: What's Your Sign?, Rainbow Road, Aqua Magma, Space Nerds, Blood Transfusions. Do any of those actually require a full team of 6 or is that just another case of unupdated rules?

question for firered the character challenge, i want to get the flash hm, but that requires 10 species of pokemon registered in the pokedex, and theres not enough pokemon i can get before dark cave to get that hm, do i just go in without flash or is catching pokemon but only using them to up the pokedex number allowed?

Figment April 21st, 2019 9:13 PM

since noone answered, i just went the "no flash" route

Chapter 2: Infuriating Cave
Spoiler:

I headed down to Vermillion City with my SS Anne Ticket and Cascade Badge
I went on the SS Anne and got the HM Cut from the captain
I had only one pokemon that could use it, Saur, i gave him the hm.
Due to me only having 2 pokemon, both pokemon at least 5 levels over lt. surge's raichu, so that fight was easy
It was at this moment, minelol5 knew, he messed up, in order to continue on with the game, you had to go through rock tunnel, it was highly reccomended to use the flash hm on route 2 you get when you register 10 pokemon to the pokedex, but i was only allowed to use pokemon red from the manga used, and turns out, i was playing fire red, and the pokemon that could've made the pokedex to 10 were exclusive to leaf green, that means, i had to go through a dark cave without flash, and i had to hug the walls the entire way through.
On the way to the tunnel Saur evolved into a venasaur
After 30 minutes of struggling i made it out of the cave alive and headed to lavender town.
There was no point going into the tower until i had the silph scope, so i went over to celadon city to get tea to refresh the guard, now i could go back without going through the cave
Lastly, i got the Eevee out in the back of celadon city, and named him vee

Team:
Pika: Lv 35
Saur: Lv 37
Vee: Lv 25

Welcome back, Kostucha! Yeah, they are still unupdated. The general idea is to have at least 4 Pokémon on your team. For evil team challenges it's at least 2 from grunts and at least 2 from the boss/legendary.

I see you already got past the tunnel, but you can catch any Pokémon aside the ones for the challenge, as long as you won't use them in battle.

Just finished signature move for the Unova region! I have to say, while I still had fun, it's definitely not my favorite challenge and I probably won't be revisiting it. Trainer fights were fine, but training... oh my word, training was a pain. I wasn't sure if using the signature move in battles against wild pokemon was a thing or not, so I went ahead and did it, but yikes, what a pain. The biggest surprise of the run? Conkeldurr is a beast. 10/10, would train again.

Signature Move - Rock Slide: White

Finally, after five hundred years, I have finished another challenge. This one drove me slightly nuts, because I loved my team, but also they had some of the worst fire allergies. And hustle is the worst, this is fact. Still, though the grinding at the end was mind-bogglingly slow and boring, it was ultimately quite fun, and I have no regrets! Meet my Christmas-themed tri-species team!

I return with another completed challenge! The pick a route challenge in the Hoenn region, to be precise. I went with route 102 partially because it was early, but also because there were a few pokemon I really wanted to use on it. This challenge is... hm. Fun, but really challenging in the beginning. My play style isn't really conducive to having your entire team really early on, and it made leveling up such a pain in the rear end until I got through a couple of gyms. But I love my team, and I'm so glad I got a chance to use these guys, particularly together like this. It ended up being a really good team makeup!

Sorry for double posting! But I decided to make an update from my Monoletter Challenge here after 4 months of abscence. Here you go!

Monoletter Challenge
Pokémon Heart Gold

Part 2 - The Team Building

Quick update! So once Bugsy was out of the way, I thought nothing else could stop Bayleef and its power. I was wrong.

As soon as I realized its gender was the opposite as Whitney's Miltank's, I knew I was doomed. I was right.

Whitney - Battle Video:
Spoiler:

Clefairy didn't pose a problem at all. If anything it helped by making Whitney use her super potion. Miltank, on the other side, was pretty hard to defeat.

My plan was to poison it so I could deal damage while the poison itself gradually took down its health. However, this thing holds a Lum Berry, so I was forced to spend two turns doing that. After it was poisoned, at this point, Bayleef was already attracted, and then I was playing with luck. I set up a Reflect so I could get a little bit of defense boost, and then started Razor Leafing. From this point the battle was basically Razor Leaf + Healing, and the hope that it would give me a crit. There was a point where Miltank kept healing with Milk Drink, and then I saw a chance to spam Razor Leaf and hope for the best. At the end, poison and Overgrow teamed up and I managed to take it down.

After the badge was obtained, it was time to get some new team members. Reaching Ecruteak and heading east gave me the chance to catch a Machop. That would help me a lot against Morty. So I trained it a bit, and it learned Payback. My salvation.

Morty - Battle Video:
Spoiler:

Comparing this battle to the last one, I'd say I'm getting along well now. This should be interesting from now on.

I caught another team member after that, Mantine, and am currently training it on my way up the lighthouse. Also Bayleef finally evolved! :O (I certainly didn't forget about that and just saw it now while editing the post and checking my team).

Janp, i'm taking Kalos challenge with the scramble rule and because i'm using Eternal X romhack any pokemon until Kalos game is available. So pick randomly from all of them.

About the in-order challenge how about the added evolutionary line that's next to each other like Gallade next to Probopass even though Kirlia and Nosepass is not next to each other?

And btw, my first challenge i choose is Trio-Species Challenge with Garchomp (Hacked in), Staraptor, and Ninetales. And i'll do it in PHOTONIC SUN! MWAHAHA (I'm gonna die am i?)

Here you go for Kalos team. Good luck:
https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/granbull.gifhttps://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/golem.gifhttps://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/talonflame.gifhttps://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/starmie.gifhttps://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/ampharos.gifhttps://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/serperior.gif

As for the new evolutions, they are allowed as long as the new evos are next to each other in the dex.

And good luck. I've never played any of the 3DS games romhacks, but would like to do so one day. But I'm to lazy to set them up.

WizardOfOdd August 16th, 2019 11:01 PM

Now this one is going to be a long, long post. This one would include update on my journey and that's not little so i'm going to cramp this entire post up, also before that i'm going to explain why photonic sun is the hardest romhack in my opinion and why did i pick my team.

So let's start with why Photonic Sun is so hard
Spoiler:
So, to explain this. I'm just going to give you some points
1. All important trainers starting from Hala's part starts to have good IV, proper EV spread, and items and that's not to mention that this includes Ace Trainer and Veteran
2. E4 and Champion are level 100, so you don't have an upperhand against them through level stats
3. Perfect EV Totem pokemons? Just imagine how'll you face that. Not to mention all of them except Totem at Ilima's trial hold an item, and they have moves to keep pressing with their strategy as using detect at the first round so ally could enter (That hurts considering Totem Lurantis's SOS called a perfect EV Drought Ninetales)

Fortunately you'll be able to buy a lot of important items from early on since battle dome can be accessed after finishing Lana's Trial and EV reducing berries even unlocked before that but still, it's not that easy. Especially since i now only have access to three pokemons only

And then why i choose my three pokemon
Spoiler:

1. Ninetales
Ninetales was my MVP from Eternal X back at Pokecommunity GT 2019, in this hack it become a Fire/Fairy and get some boost on Sp. Attack that definitely helps. Not to forget that it has access to drought which means drought powered STAB Flamethrower and Solar Beam as normal. Also it has access to STAB Moonblast and Dark Pulse which combined with high enough speed stat is great against variety of opponents. I actually was considering Alolan Ninetales because of Freeze Dry, but lack of Drought and Solar Beam might hurt alot in the long run

2. Garchomp
Well Garchomp had access to a ton of move and it could become my physical anchor since it has high Attack and Speed stat, STAB Earthquake and STAB Outrage also make it really powerful in the long run.... However after running Garchomp for awhile i realized i was kind of mistaken on picking this pokemon. Why?
1. You don't have access to Earthquake and Outrage for awhile and that's really hurt
2. Compared to my second choice for this spot Gengar, it has a slower exp gain and with high level cap to evolve it's a total chore to grind. Not to mention Mega Gengar outclass Mega Garchomp by quite a lot.
However, it's still a solid pick in completing this game

3. Staraptor
WHY STARAPTOR? Some of you might say, it's actually kind of simple. In completing this game i'll obviously gonna fight again Ultra Necrozma and few other powerful pokemon.. So how should i beat them? It's by Focus Sash + Endeavor actually that's why i choose this pokemon, besides this pokemon has early access to Close Combat and with STAB Brave Bird and Giga Impact. This pick was actually solid and had carried me in the game until this point. (Although i should've picked up Gengar to replace either Garchomp and Staraptor but oh well)

Well now, this is the journey Transcript
Part 1 - Melemele Island
Spoiler:
So we start this by hacking a perfect IV Gible in with 0 EV whatsoever, Gible is faraway here and you'll realize that you can still eat a beatdown even though you think perfect iv pokemon is invincible, so we skip a few stuff. Hau is easily defeatible since his Litten's movepool is not good yet. Early on Gible get Dragon Rage at level 7. And so he is invincible at this point, all pokemon is dead by just one hit including when we fight Hau's Popplio and Pikachu again at the festival for Tapu Koko. Even pesty School Teacher and Ilima's four pokemon team that usually kind of hard to beat is defeated quite easily.

After that we travel through and we found the Big Wave Beach, believe it or not this will be one of the most important spot for our journey but for now let's go and beat Ilima's Totem Gumshoos. Here i almost died because apparently Totem Gumshoos is pretty tough, and now i realized there's quite a dillema although i beat Totem Gumshoos but it's all only thanks to Dragon Rage and it's going to be quite awhile for me to get dig, i only have sand tomb and the damage is horrenderous after finding Lillie, etc. We finally battle with Hau again in which i lost, this was my first defeat in the entire walkthrough and i was bitter because i lost to Pikachu with Quick Attack.

However, it's also an eye opener because i realize there was no chance in hell i'll defeat Hala's six pokemons while Starly is only obtainable after getting Tauros Charge. So i grinded hard until i evolved to Gabite and with Dual Chop i was kind of sure i can beat Hala. And i did it, although it took me several healing items and stalling. After that it's finally my time to catch a Starly at route 1 that was blocked by boulder and it took quite awhile to find one with Good IV and Great Nature so.. Yep it was quite the experience but we're ready to move forward to Akala through Heahea Beach

P.S. You can get the training items Power Bracer, Belt, etc. at Hau'oli City so EV Training is easier now

Part 2 - Akala Island
Spoiler:
After mantine riding, we go to Tide Song Hotel where we fight Dexio outside, and as expected i eat my second L here, I managed to KO Mr. Mime and Bulky Slowpoke but not enough for beating his Espeon. And now we go to Lana's Trial but.. i knew i had to mess with Totem Araquanid later so.. in this one we had to grind a little bit (It's definitely not a little) so Starly evolved to Staraptor and my battle with Hau this time at Paniola Ranch actually results with my victory so does Gladion fight, having Staravia sure help. At the time Staravia evolved i actually breezed through Araquanid battle with more superior speed and Flyinium Z.

After that the next one was Kiawe at Wela Volcano Park but.. i was skeptic i'll be able to beat Kiawe so.. this is where Surfing came in. As Battle Royal Dome was out of reach for me with absence of Ninetales (Vulpix only encounterable at Lush Jungle and Mt.Lanakila), so the only way for me to gain BP was through Surfing. After spamming surfing for quite awhile i bought a ton of items (Choice Band, Life Orb, Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, and some other items) at Battle Dome. Now for the last issue, i don't have a proper pokemon to beat Kiawe and Kiawe's marowaks was actually perfect exp farm (Just choose wrong answers everytime, you'll keep fighting Alolan Marowak) so by a ton of healing potions, ether, and dual chops Gabite then learned Dig and also evolved to Garchomp and so Kiawe was defeated.

Now after a few more grind, it's time to beat awfully powerful Totem Lurantis at Mallow's Trial. And when we're there other pokemon proves to be easy, but Totem Lurantis hoo boy, i was actually reading the documentation of this romhack and when i read it has detect i correctly deduced it wasn't the right time to First turn Z-Move, so i did it second turn and it's instantly defeated.. However, it's SOS a Drought Ninetales decimated Ace with STAB Flamethrower, but managed to be dealt with by Terra Ryzing. And then we catch a Vulpix (I caught a ton but they don't have good IV and Nature, so keep releasing them until we get one. Thankfully Vulpix's rate is kind of generous unlike Bagon's 1%) and evolved it with Fire Stone i bought at route 5.

By the end of this text i'm still at Konikoni City healing before trying to go after Olivia at Ruins of Life.

So a lot has happened in game from last time, but honestly X and Y are one of the easiest games to beat since the gym leaders (Aside from Olympia maybe) are easy to beat as long as you are prepared for the battles. Anyway got the Dawn Stone from Route 3 and the Shiny Stone on Route 12. Either way this challenge is really fun, but the only change I would really make for this current team is swapping Gallade for another fighting or electric Pokémon since as of now its move set is not the best and it levels up really slowly. So I would either choose a Pokémon that might level up faster or one where the move set and move pool might be better.

WizardOfOdd August 19th, 2019 6:29 PM

Now, a new update yay. I actually decide to do a new update now as i found a new mechanic that would definitely make this already like climbing Mt.Everest trip to going to like a space journey. So.. please enjoy this transcript of my suffering ^^

Continuation of Part 2 - Akala Island
Spoiler:
So, now it's Olivia fight time. This one i didn't grind out that many levels and decide to power it up instead. So first up she used Gigalith which was defeated by my Garchomp's Dig no biggie. But the next one was Minior and i've used Staraptor instead cause of Minior has Shell Smash which after using it could wreck me up (Not to mention it held White Herb). So after Close Combat and Quick Attack i managed to defeat it. Next one was Probopass, Close Combat again skip. Cradily? Close Combat again. Next one was Lycanroc and as i'm afraid with Accelerock i changed back to Garchomp which hit it with dig. Lycanroc with Sturdy ability? What? It then goes for counter which knocked Garchomp out *Sigh*. But Staraptor managed to wrap everything nicely so it all works well at the end. And then the last one came up which is Armaldo. And i did defeat it with Ninetales and her Life Orb supported Dazzling Gleam. And that's it we won.

The storyline then continue again and we now have to go to Aether Paradise.

Part 2.5 - Aether Paradise
Spoiler:
Nihilego died after one Endeavor and Quick attack, nuff said.

Part 3 - Ulaula Island
Spoiler:
So after that abysmal Nihilego fight i now continue to Malie City where we have to go Malie Garden to find the Professor. And i had to fight Guzma now, which he starts with Golisopod. I started with Ace though and with 3 Brave Birds downed Golisopod, Masquerain, and Pinsir. However as it's HP starts to get into the red territory i swapped Ace with Mindy which with Drought and Life Orb powered Flamethrower managed to down Scizor and Vikavolt without a ton of issue. That battle could gone horribly wrong without me starting Ace as his Golisopod is pretty powerful. And then i met Kukui and i decide to go to Mt. Hokulani Observatory. After getting Steelium Z from Molayne i then attempt Sophocles's Trial. Totem Togedemaru get beaten up by the Usual Endeavor and Quick Attack while it's SOS was finished by Mindy.

And now let's finish the Acerola's Challenge.. Except.. It's a Ghost type so my supposed flawless technique to finish this entire run with beating the Totems with Endeavor and Quick Attack wasn't going to make it at all. So i had to grind.... A LOT. But as usual i overgrinded and beat Mimikyu with 2 Drought and Life Orb powered flamethrower (It took very long to grind, i should've cut 30 - 60 minutes of grinding i've done). Then we go back to Tapu Village to buy Dark Pulse and Earthquake TM.. 150.000 Pokedollars to buy Earthquake? Yikes. I used Roto Bargain powers and managed to buy both of them but it still extremely wreck my pocket. And then i fought Plumeria, which was far more easier because my overleveled team once more.. Until i realize.. Her Beedrill turn into Mega Beedrill. Uh.. Oh No.. So i have to beat peoples with Megas without getting access to them? Damn...

And that's it, with the new curve ball now i have to think outside the box again with my setup to complete this whole game. And btw, to those who think i flew this and never died, nope i die quite a lot. It was probably 11 times blackout happened either because i was too hasty fighting trainers after trainers without healing or because i was fighting important trainers without knowing their strategy. That and i also did a lot of surfing to get BP as i need all the item i can get. Wish me luck folks, this is going to be a really bumpy ride now.

I see you're making very small and fast updates. FYI it's not required to update your progress after every single gym badge, as that would require a lot of posts to complete your challenge. You can make a considerable amount of progress and then put it all together in one post, just so the thread wouldn't get too messy. The rules do say double posting is allowed, but I wouldn't recommend doing it excessively!

But anyway, that's my recommendation. Good luck in the rest of your run.

Pokémon Blue - Erika and Sabrina - They are the most difficult Gym leaders in the Highest Stat Defense challenge, I think, because at this time you should have only:
Blastoise, Golem/Graveler, Sandslash, Dux(Farfetch'd), Onix and Marowak
Only Dux may beat up Erika and Sabrina has no weakness to the pokémon you could catch until now. What's the solution? GRINDING until lvl 36 minimum, I've grinded up my pokémon and got the two badges. Now I am going to Fuschia city

The rules don't specifically state you can't, so as long as it meets the requirements for your challenge, it should be ok.
