Simple Questions and Simple Answers

Rather than clogging up the main forum with questions this thread will serve as the best place to ask simple questions.

Things like "where do I find this item", "how do I do this" would fit here.

Questions like "what do you recommend against Whitney" and "the best strategies for the roaming dogs" deserve their own threads, as a general guide - it promotes discussion and is open to a bunch of different answers. :)

Feel free to post those simple questions here now! This thread will be temporary - likely only for a month or so to handle the mass of initial questions from everyone.

How does trading work now?

Hi! I was wondering how trading works now with the virtual console games. I did some searching but it doesn’t look like anyone has made a thread on this yet so I was wondering if someone could explain it. Do you have to be in person, close proximity, or is it completely wireless and you can trade with anyone around the globe? Thank you!

LeedsUnitedForLife September 25th, 2017 10:21 PM

dont think u can trade global

Mimikyu402 September 26th, 2017 3:47 AM

trading is local only like it was in the old days

Not really Super Effective

I did one of the in game trades and got Machop and right now it knows Low Kick, Seismic Toss, Foresight and Karate Chop. 3 out of 4 are Fighting type moves. I have faced both Rock and Ground types and I have noticed that against these types that both Low Kick and Karate Chop are super effective but Seismic Toss isn't.

Is there something I'm missing or has anyone else had this issue?

Rengoku September 26th, 2017 9:43 AM

Because they've always been "The user's level equals damage HP.". Although Seismic Toss is a Fighting-type move, it's type does not alter the amount of damage it inflicts.

Caite-chan September 26th, 2017 9:51 AM

I guess I really did miss something...lol. I never really paid attention to things like that.

BlazingCobaltX September 26th, 2017 11:06 AM

I wondered that too for the longest time, and eventually came to the same realization. If you're new to Pokémon like I was then it was a major "wtf???".

Alex September 26th, 2017 1:26 PM

Night Shade is similar. It always will hit for the user's level. It's ghost-type but will not be super effective on ghosts. Dragon Rage works this way too. As a dragon-type move, it will always hit for 40 HP. It won't be super effective against dragon

Bike Rego

does anyone know how to make the bike register as select for quick access?

Ho-Oh September 28th, 2017 5:12 AM

Just click on the bike in Key Items. "SEL" (or wording really similar) will automatically come up as the second thing in the menu - click that and it will register :)

Ammako September 28th, 2017 6:27 AM

Just keep in mind that unlike Start which was also mapped to X on VC, they didn't map Select to Y like one might expect so you have to reach all the way down to Select. :(

LeedsUnitedForLife September 28th, 2017 2:15 PM

I dont see an optino to put it in key items? when i cliuck on it it says toss, sell etc not register?

there is no sel or register option

(please note, capitalization and font is used for emphasis and clarity, as important names are capitalized in Gold and Silver)

When you first visit the BIKE SHOP in Goldenrod City, the BICYCLE should automatically be in the KEY ITEMS pocket upon receiving it from the attendant. When you select the item in your bag, the menu next to it should display the options: USE, SEL, and QUIT. If you see any other options, or if the Bicycle is located in another bag pocket that is not the Key Items pocket, then you have encountered a glitch in either your legal copy of the game or the ROM you are using (if you're using an emulator). That cannot be resolved without the use of cheat codes, and I personally don't know how that process would go. If that is the case, you will likely need to seek out other resources for assistance, as you've reached the limit of many people's ability to help.

If you do see these three options, then you're in the clear - the SEL option should be what you're looking for. Upon selecting that then you'll see a message saying "Registered the BICYCLE." After that, you can just press Select to use it.

If I recall, they stay on the Johto side of the map, and cannot be encountered in Kanto in Gold and Silver.

That's awesome, thanks for replying me!

Not sure if this belongs here, but I was curious about something.

I've got a ROM of Crystal Version (as well as the official cartridge) on which I found a Shiny Koffing (now Weezing). I was wondering if there is any possible way to move/copy/trade that Shiny Weezing from the ROM to Virtual Console Gold/Silver via hacking, emulation, etc. because it kind of seems a shame to leave it stuck there...

I know you can extract .pkm files from the newer games and import them into save files, but I'm not sure if that can be done with GSC ROMs or, if it can, if it could also be done with the Virtual Console versions.

Hi! My friend and I wanted to have the full Gen II experience, so we decided to each download one of the games on our 3DS and trade with each other. However, he has an American 3DS and I have a European one. Is it even possible to connect those two systems in Virtual Console?
